[Column] General: Becoming a F2P Convert
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/24/13 1:19:05 PM
I have never played a F2P game. I just cannot get into the micro transactions. 5 dollars here, 3 dollars there, 15 dollars for that. Give me a game to really sink my teeth into. I am old school. I have played many hours from the beginning in: UO, DAoC, EQ2, Jumpgate, Earth and Beyond, WoW and many many more. I like the sub games and 15.000 USD a month is cheap. Except one time I had three accounts going...LOL

Not to thrilled about wearing a huge piece of hardware on my head. I have TRACKIR head tracking and love it with my simulators. Clips on to your headset and is very small. Granted, I dont have 3D, but I dont care.

Bought this game awhile back and I must say, I have never played a game that sucked me in so quick. This game is so well made that I don't even want to play anything but this one. Granted, it probably isn't that long from what I read, but it is one entertaining game. The puzzles can be a little hard, but not so hard you can't figure them out on your own. The action is superb and you have to make quick decisions. The cut scenes are just right. Not to long or not to frequent. Lara's voice acting is very good while some of the others are just ok. Anyone else playing this game? |

Permadeath in Star Citizen! Yup, this game will be hardcore!

By reading about the death penalty, insurance costs, ship upgrades and medical bills, money and I mean allot of money will be needed to survive in this game. I just hope gold (money) sellers don't ruin this game. They always seem to infiltrate mmo games with their spamming. Does anyone know if there are going to be checks in place that will prevent this from happening? Just curious. |

Ultima Online used to do that with housing in the beginning. You had to refresh your house to keep it from falling down. I hated it. Then they changed it to as long as you were a subscriber, your house would remain. Well, I am not a subscriber now and this is one of the reasons I never went back. My house is gone. Making people log in or something is taken away is just bad practice to me. |

Could DF:UW be a UO replacement MMO?

Originally posted by Badaboom Havent bought the game yet. I have been lurking around the forums, reading the manual, watching Youtubes and looking at the ratings. I have a surround sound system in my game room and was curious if it utuilized all the speakers. Most of the games I have played, don't. I will search a little more. Would be nice if it did. |

I remember playing UO before Trammel went in. I worked on getting my hiding skill up. This gave some hope of not being ganked. DF:UW does not have a skill like this, so you are totally open. I wish they had the hiding skill in for crafters and explorers.

Originally posted by Kanyl I played EQ2 with a old Girl friend years ago. She was a wizard and I was a Necro. We were unstoppable about 80% of the time. Great times together. We also played Ultima Online. I would go hunting and she would stay home cooking and crafting. When I got home, the table was set with food. I would take her out on the boat and we would fish and explore together, stop at a remote place and have a picnic. I would say UO was the best time we had together. |

Originally posted by Loktofeit I am 61 yrs old and I would play it. |

Originally posted by FromHell ^ This Come on guys, it is just beta. The game will improve and the bugs will be worked out. I like the game so much, I bought the Commander pack. I ride a Harley in RL and wanted a motorcycle....LOL Give it time. So far, I think they did a jamb up job . Very fast paced. |

Is Ultima Online still worth playing today?
Britannia Tavern (General) « Ultima Online 2/06/13 8:45:28 AM
Originally posted by Grumium Funny you mentioned that. I remember a while back and I mean awhile back, that they were thinking of having a shard for the old school UO as it was in the late 90's. I swear I read that somewhere, but then they came out and said they were not going to do that. Anyone else remember that? |

Well, I tried to get back into it. I just dont seem to have the time. This game requires hours upon hours to do anything. Now that I am older, I just cant find the time to put into it.
I really wanted to, but alas, I can't.
Thanks all for the great responses. I really did try, but I couldnt get sucked in. So I am playing Miner Wars 2081.
I can pop in, play awhile and pop out. Sheesh, I hate getting old. Time is not on my side anymore.
Later all, and thanks so much for the encouragement. |

Originally posted by dave6660 Actually, that is the way I feel. I have over 3,000,000 skill points with like 4-5 ships on my main. I have been playing my noob alt to learn the game again. |

Man, I am really getting overwhelmed with this game. There is so much to learn and remember. I can see why this game is lasting so long and keeps the subscription high. Very well made game. |
|

I am a returning player after nine years. One thing to keep in mind. If you are technically gifted, this game is for you. I think I am going to enjoy learning all over again. |
