Having to ignore every single person is an annoyance. If you prefer to sit there and type out everyone's name, go for it.
Or be intelligent and use this function. |

Kaboobie's Beta PvP video thread
Beta Weekend Event Reviews & Impressions « Guild Wars 2 4/30/12 11:12:23 PM
The game is very similar to GW1 so not much of the mechanics in this game are "unknown" really.
As you play the game more, you'll become better as the Warrior. Considering most Americans/Westerners are stupid and care only about DPS, being able to CC for 18-22 seconds straight with absolutely no breaks in the lock can mean death for any single person. Splitting that all up means you've got a Linebacker able to counter an entire team at least twice. Once people learn how to use their brain, Linebackers and pushers won't be as dominant. However that will take the newer people in the GW community about a year to figure out if not longer.
Most competitive teams will run the standard:
Linebacker War/Ranger CC Support w/ Permasnare
Then they will either run spike or pressure. Pressure is slightly harder to do in this game but we've come up with a few that worked out really well.
As for the small 5 mans it looks like a 1|3|1 or 2|2|1 split seems to be the best so far. Two with great sustain and the rest with the preferrence of spike/pressure.
Good luck everyone. |

Best MMO I've played since 2004

However, for most people playing Western MMOs, you are correct that it is a nice change.
MMO Combat as most know it is far behind Korean ARPGs sadly. After playing for about 12 hours I've lost four 1v1s and maybe five or six people that I was unable to kill. Win rate is around 80% because most people aren't objective based in the beta it seems.
Why?
Because I've played Mount & Blade and every Korean twitch MMO. Everyone will catch on really quick though because features in this game "make sense" and "feel right". |

Um, believe me, there are multiple games that allow you to do so hahaha.
In YOUR EXPERIENCE you can't do that in any other game. |

How about you try to hit the YouTube button to see it in its original resolution? It's not MMORPG.com's fault. It's you being unfamiliar with how the internet works. |

If you use the search function for "gaming laptop" you will find all of the threads that people already have posted in about how you are spending so much money for little performance by going with Alienware. If you want flashing lights, click the on and off button of an LED flash light over your head.
Use the search function or wait a bit. People will tell you how bad of an idea it is to go with Alienware for the most part.
Have fun!
Also, you don't have to spend $4,500 but I do admire your willingness to spend money. |

Why story driven content will succeed
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/29/11 2:05:00 PM
You want story driven? Go play the first two years of Asheron's Call and come back. THAT was a community. THAT was a story. PvE, PvP, PK, it didn't matter. Everybody participated by assisting or thwarting (I've always wanted to use that word) their fellow players. The GMs played alongside the players for a very long time as NPCs and drove the story.
Come back after you've experienced something like that to even speak about story driven content. This game has not had any press about "dynamic world events" that will be more than - HEY GUYS LET'S ALL GET TOGETHER AND GATHER THESE POINTLESS THINGS THAT NOBODY HAS ANY BACKGROUND ON AND THEN I'LL TELL YOU HOW IMPORTANT IT IS!
ALRIGHT GUYS WE'RE GONNA BE THERE, HOVERING ABOVE YOU LIKE A GOD, WATCHING YOU AND THEN YOU CAN IMMERSE YOURSELF AND THINK ABOUT ALL OF THESE COOL THINGS HAPPENING IN THE UNIVERSE!
Not happening. Smooth gameplay though and that's what counts these days. |

It's funny that I built 4-5 computers for family members and friends to play this game specifically in the $600-900 price range and every single one of them ran the game fine at launch with the random issue here and there once a week. Now? The game is like suicidal hot butter purposely falling onto a warm katana. It's that easy to run. |

I've been doing the 1920x1200 (1080p essentially) for well over a year and have seen games come and go. SLI issues aside, the 295 is still a very nice card. There are other variables to performance of course, such as my i7 which helps greatly especially in well done multithreaded games. The architecture is just that much more efficient than even the E7xxx/8xxx series. Those were some of the best chips you could buy for the money during that time. Great choice there. |

Yeah we're not feeding this guy pipe dreams or anything. Plus, who knows what he's coming from really and what his expectations are? That's the whole name of this game.
Either way, good info here for folks to read! |

Hmmm, well those actually familiar with video card tiers will know where the 5870 still stands in today's specs and I can safely say that there are maybe two games that I cannot run with every single thing on high or maxed @ 1920x1200. The 6800 series is nothing but a power saving version of the 5800 series and the naming scheme changed as well. The 6950 is a bit faster than the 5870, while the 6870 is slower than the 5870. So be aware of that for those who do not know.
The GTX 560 Ti Cu Top is, according to benchmarks, ~5% better than what I have in regular gaming.
Granted, "maxed" may mean different things to different people. Do I need 500x AA? Not @ 1920x1200. Is there a real world, noticeable difference to me of AF x372162 or even in general? Not so much in games where it is twitch or I'm playing a game and paying attention to the combat in front of me, of which AF will only help bring back the details lost in the thin depth of field.
It depends on the eye and preferences, but considering the OP is talking about a 22 inch monitor, I doubt there is much need to worry about AA higher than x2 or x4, let alone a huge bump in AF. |

Not sure where else to pull from unless the OP has additional room for the budget.
If you do have room, go for the modular and save yourself an extra hour of setting up zip ties and routing so many wires and getting mad when some cables won't move where you want because the others are too stiff and block your other wires hahaha. |

Originally posted by Karesh Corsair branded PSU/power supplys are made from some of the better ones out there, so no worries on that. If you want to stick with the modular power supply (the kind that allows you to add and remove cables as you need, rather than it coming with a billion cables you may not use), then the one you chose is not bad. Personally I don't always care about modular connections but it may be a bit cramped in your case unless you route your wires behind one of the side panels very well.
If you decide to not go with a modular power supply, you can definitely go with:
Definitely not bad and nets you an additional $30 to use.
That extra $30 can bring you to GTX 560 levels, which will be one of the most noticeable differences in your gaming experience.
As was previously said, the Sandy Bridge processors from Intel would be my recommendation around this price point because they make such a huge difference compared to even last year's i3, i5, and i7 processors. All in all, well said and defended. He doesn't seem to understand that everyone's uses are different. Also, due to my skinning, you can only see I believe 9 open applications, not including the background ones in the bottom right. These are simple, common tasks.
Eh, to each his own hahaha.
The real question is - What is utilization?
DUN DUN DUN!
Have a good day folks. |

I was stating that, when playing, I am using more than the shown GB of RAM. I do not claim my computer is slow. As you can see, less than 15% overhead required for daily tasks. The single game open is taking 1.2GB of RAM right now.
Sometimes, people use their computer for additional things. This is now you attempting to create the argument of who uses 4GB rather than stating reasons that the original poster should or should not go from 4GB and higher.
You are isolating your case based off of your experiences, which from the sounds of it, are not limited but in comparison to my own and others here, are limited. In your situation you may not require more than 4GB. In my situation, I do.
Sometimes running a web server/hosting files and constant caching requires this additional RAM. I would love to see you say that someone running a Linux/Unix based box does not require more than 1GB RAM because it uses so little. Prefetching/Caching is perhaps beyond you sir.
As I said, any and all processes running are required on a daily basis for this specific machine's use and it is my daily machine.
----------------------------------------
To the original poster:
I hope that, if you have read through any of this nonsense, that you see where your uses may lie and that you can make an educated guess as to what your standards and requirements are for the new machine.
My suggestion is definitely the motherboard upgrade over anything else. It is much easier to replace RAM than an entire motherboard later on.
Best of luck! |

Believe me, I have many things that require RAM. Although you may not require 4GB, does not mean that others do not. This machine only has 9GB right now and will have 24GB in a few days coming for MY uses. Not yours, MINE.
I constantly play with more than one client of games or multiple games going at the same time. I run graphic intensive sites that require heavy caching and am always running multiple avenues of communication. Simply put, I use more than 3GB on a daily basis. I use more than 4GB on a daily basis. And at night, while rendering video, transferring data from drive to external, and running games over night, I am always using 9GB.
What may be useless to you is not always useless to others.
Thank before you become hurt. This is not the thread to do this, but as proof of operation, I have provided a screenshot of my regular applications open and other things that require memory.
Aside from probably 4 or 5 services which take up no more than 50MB in total, I am familiar with every single task/service running and their needs for my daily life.

I've been building and selling prebuilt computer for who knows how long and I would like to let you know that I have very few people who actually require going to 8GB, let alone 6GB.
However, given the details, I would definitely cut some money from peripheral things that you are looking to purchase such as that mouse pad (despite your issues with the mouse, which I believe are the mouse and not surface problems) and the keyboard. Understand that while the additional macro keys on most gaming keyboards are useful, they are also able to be done with as little as a macro program or even in-game keys. Removing your hands from the standard WASD or the ESDF setups can greatly hinder you upon coming back to the regular keyboard. The idea behind changing your keyboard to ESDF instead of WASD was done so that the pinky could access the keys such as QWAZ easier, hence bringing you four additional keys that do no need to be on the side of a keyboard for you. Most people (standard gaming and consumer community) do not utilize RFVTGB when using standard WASD setups, but become much more available with an ESDF setup.
What I'm trying to say, is perhaps you may want to adjust your gaming habits to not only save you some money, but allow you to invest that saved money into additional RAM that others are telling you not to get.
The RAM, while not important to you now for your needs, may not be sufficient at a later date. You more than likely, for the next four years, will never use 6GB/8GB but having the additional RAM whenever the time comes will be a hassle you do not have to worry about.
Other than that, I think that your build is decent. I would completely rework it and pinch pennies everywhere I could for my own needs, but you are not me nor am I you. My only advice of something to change in your build as an upgrade is definitely the motherboard. I build systems like this often and there usually is not a problem, but as an overall build, it would greatly benefit from jumping up to a few of the motherboards already mentioned.
Best of luck and let us know how you like it! |

!!!Big update folks!!!
I basically doubled my framerates today.
i7 920 5870
The biggest thing I did was get ATI Tray Tools (ATT) and went through and disabled some things such as Catalyst A.I., made sure that I had Use Application Settings on everything since I used to have to force things through the control panel. Also made sure that I put Multi-Sample AA on instead of Super-Sample and that seemed to bump my FPS from 15 to 30. The 30 is now my MINIMUM. Of course you can do this through CCC/ATI Control Panel, but I decided to use ATT that's all. Mouse lag is pretty much gone.
Currently running lowest settings I can @ 1920x1200 and resolution buffering. I'm going to see what I can do about upping all of the settings at this point.
Not sure what you're all talking about with Alt-Tab not working though. That crap is working on my Windows 7 x64.
Anyway I'll update later. |
