[Column] Scarlet Blade: Scarlet Blade... Really?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/07/13 10:54:45 AM
It was bad enough when these kinds of games started trying to paw my wallet. This one trying to paw both my wallet and my crotch is going way too far.

I'd ask WTF these guys are smoking, but considering their past track record I'm pretty sure its a mixture of crack and bath salts.

I smell cinema gold. Ok actually I smell poligrip, gold bond powder, icyhot, adult diapers, and desperation.

[Column] General: A 'Next Gen' Opportunity

I'm not sure console companies should bother to try. Let me explain. While I am not a console fan or owner I have no problem with the idea of MMOs being developed for them. However once you factor in the cost and the sheer amount of time it takes to create an MMO, unless the game company was very lucky, by the time their game makes it to launch the console or consoles, it was designed for are going to be getting a bit stale. It seems a very risky business. I feel that if console makers want to branch out into different types of games I'd recommend something like MOBAs. Since they are easier, or at least quicker to create and seem to currently be wildly popular, possibly even more so than MMOs, I'd say that would be a far safer investment. |

Well if this means they want to keep delivering content continually in bursts, rather than leaving a long drought between content releases with expanisons, sounds like a good thing for the players.

[Preview] Scarlet Blade: Featuring Scantily Clad Anime Females

So reguardless whether the game has actual depth or not, its main selling point seems to still be titillating pixels. Sounds yawnarrific. Sorry Scarlet Blade, but when it comes to sexy pixels, I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine.

Originally posted by SBFord Sorry but I whole heartedly disagree. You've stated you quite enjoy D3 so for you the idea of giving Blizzard more money isn't an issue. However there are quite a few of us out there that feel Blizzard did a rather poor job with D3 mainly due to them putting their own profits first rather than making a great game first, like they used to do. So as a long term Blizzard fan the state of D3 at launch badly damaged my customer confidence in that company. Which means I'm done throwing them my money for anything as long as it looks like they have the potential to keep releasing products substandard to what they could be making. And if not buying their games is the only way to get their attention, or at the very least remove my anxiety that I'm continuing to support a company that takes my fandom and money for granted, then that's what I'm going to do. Its my money and my choice. If that for some reason bothers you, then frankly you need to get over it as it isn't your decision to make. |

Can't say I'm very much suprised. Don't very much care as Maxis lost me as a customer back when they released the ridiculously content gutted, yet mysteriously still full priced The Sims 3. However I do have to ask how this kind of so called protection saves these companies any money. Sure they will probably stop people from pirating their game, but what about the added development cost of extra personnel to create and maintain the servers, which will have to continue to be maintained the entire lifespan of the game, and the inevitable flood of angry support tickets and calls the support staff have to handle when things like the server queues happen. In my personal experience people who pirate affordable items such as games and music never intended to become a customer in the first place so these DRM measures do not effect them. Sadly however actual customers who feel they are being asked to jump through pointless hoops to play a game they've already payed for have a high potential to become ex-customers. |

Originally posted by Jean-Luc_Picard Of course you are. Anyone who claims to play MMORPGs these day because they happen to enjoy them is highly suspicious and must be up to something. |

Originally posted by dzones I ran into a very similar issue a couple of days ago. Got kicked off in the middle of the Shadow Behemoth event and then got the notification I had to rename my character before I could log back in. Sent in a support ticket and was told the rename was an error on their part and let me use my original character name. They responded fairly quickly and were quite polite so I'm happy. Not sure exactly why the heck it happend though. I'm guessing either an automated protection feature on the fritz or someone abusing the report name feature out of mischief. |

"In part of our shift to Mobile, we obviously will be shifting resources around to work on our current projects, like Ultima Forever, or some of our new projects and prototypes. Sadly I can't really give you any skinny on those at the moment, but rest assured, we will as soon as we can."
Yep great idea guys. Keep following those trends hoping to get a first class tricket on the next gravy train without really knowing WTF you're doing. How about you hire some people with some actual ideas that can make games that are entertaining on any platform, rather than your current method which is to just fling shit at the latest cash cow and hoping something sticks. |

Rift: Hal Hanlin Departs for Zynga
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/04/13 8:14:02 AM
Logged into the game on saturday to see if it felt worth trying out the Storm Legion expansion. Every server I had charcters on were ghost towns. I'm thinking that the expansion didn't go over as well as hoped and this is just fall out from that. Its also possible that Trion is shifting its focus to Defiance and Aion so there isn't much for the Rift crew to do.
