After going around to most MMOs I thought I would give LotRO a second chance. I tried once when it was first released and didn't like it right off the bat. I don't know why honestly... because now I'm loving it. Granted I just left the newbie zone but still. It's pretty and fun and certainly has some depth. I actually like reading the quests... I can see why this has won MMO of the year and other awards. With so many negative posts around I thought I'd leave a good one. :) By the way does anyone know how good of a server Firefoot is? (I think that's the name of the server I'm on?) |

It got a little better when I started doing more of the quest and such in the wilderness but this focused a lot on shooting however you can really dodge and people can shoot through rocks. When making a shooter they really need to make it more evadable than it is. Does that make sense? Plus I have problems with dead enemies still standing around and stuff like that.. but some of the quests were fun. Maybe i'd give it 7/10 now but ... I don't think I will be staying with, but I will continue to keep an eye on it for improvements and I can understand those who enjoy it so no disrespect to those who do. :)

Well like I said I will be playing it more and will press on. I hope people can at least understand about the point where it had potential to be even better. Just little things like perhaps the icons, a little more diversity ect... As I said they were my first impressions.. as for the indepth what I meant by that was that there didn't seem a like a whole lot to do.. again that could change i don't know. I can certainly see why people WOULD like this game it is a refreshing break from the typical fantasy feel, that much is certain.
Edit: and yes no game is perfect on release but i've certainly played some that were better than this. Furthermore some mmos ignore what's wrong and just make the new content better.. others (i'm hoping this one) will go back to freshen up the content earlier on. After all.. you want players to be excited about the game from the start. |

Not that anyone asked me but I thought I would throw out my opinion to those who are thinking about it. It reminded me a like CoH and GW but not as good as either of them. Keep in mind I haven't played all that much so this is just my first impression and I do plan to go back and try some more... But my first thought was "shoot this could have been awesome with a little more attention to the details." ... It still can be. I just hope they work on making the game have a little more depth and maybe the controls could use a little work... but yeah... those are my thoughts so far. It's good.. I'm just dissapointed because I can see the potential for it to be great. 6/10 |

Anyone else feeling the MMO era is dying?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/12/07 9:18:21 AM
yeah i have to agree... it seems no matter how hard i try, the first mmo i played was my favorite... if you don't like it why would you try other mmos you know what I mean? For me it was Final Fantasy... I don't think it's dying, but as someone else said I think it's just where you get restless looking for the next thing that will give you that fresh feeling you had when you first started playing your favorite mmo. |

What could really be a WoW-Killer?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/11/07 3:12:08 PM
I agree that there is no WoW-Killer.. it's hear to stay (no i'm not a fanboi) but it will also go away with time when it's good and ready.. kinda like the orginal EQ (which I still out there) but nearly as mainstream as it once was.. still it lasted for a long time and EQ2 I don't think ever took over like the orginal.
Still MMOs I REALLY want to see and think have a lot of potential: Magic: The Gathering Resident Evil Ratchet & Clank (Think about it and how you level up the weapons..) Oh I'd love a Pokemon MMO but I'm still trying to think in my head how it would actually work out. It has potential though. But espeically the magic the gathering it has it's fanbase, they already thousands of creatures and artwork to choose from... |

I haven't researched it but it sounds a little confusing with the cloning? Does that ruin the game in anyone's opinion? But to back up.. I like Guild Wars but wish it had a higher level and non instanced zones.. I liked CoH and CoV but found it to get slightly repetitive (maybe if I had more skills?) I liked WoW but the grind got to me at lvl 40.. still i like the crafting and stuff that you can do... With those in mind do you think I would like game? Just curious on others input. ... I guess what I'm asking is how is it similiar to WoW (I know people hate to compare but I'd like to know so I can make up my mind), CoH, and GW? Also what's your favorite thing about TR? Thanks :) |

The Best MMORPG You have Played And Why
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/27/07 2:27:19 PM
FFXI - The community was amazing. By now it's rather out dated especially if you are a new player. But it was still the best one I played. I constantly search for another MMO with an excellent community but never had as much luck as I have with FFXI. IF there was ever a FFXI-2 or something, I would be there for sure. |

Horrible Communitys --> Horrible MMO's
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/27/07 5:52:20 PM
I only bothered to read the topic but I have to agree as well.. Final Fantasy which is average or even perhaps outdated still has the best community and that was and still is what makes the game shine. As you can see I play Guild Wars which has a terrible community. I still like the game a lot but I would like a whole lot more if the community could get it's act together... But the question is? How does the developers or people make a community better? What can we do? I know I'd like to change the GW community for the better but I"m at a loss... |

I agree... it's a shame they didn't do the traditional expansions from the beginning. Though I have to give them credit they tried something different and it was exciting but it didn't work as well as they had hoped. Still with regual actual expansions for GW2 it could be something very great! But yes I'm very excited. :) |

Skill > Gear... and that's why Guild Wars Rules teh Roost
Lion's Arch (General) « Guild Wars 8/07/07 11:39:18 AM
Yes that is a good thing about Guild Wars however.... my main problem is that most players will not let people play how they want. Meaning there is one build for this and if you don't have it that way you are a noob. I don't like people who think that way and it seems most people do. Other than that it's cool. |

Guild Wars: Eye of the North Guided E3 Demo Video
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/03/07 2:20:45 PM
Well if you listen to the person speaking it makes perfect sense... even a lot of gamers would agree that having more stand alone games is not working as they orginally though. Many people who play Guild Wars do not like having to go through the tuitoral and so on and so forth.. if you bring a character over from a different campaign then you miss out on the starting story stuff... and with too many professions and such it just gets messy. As it says this is for people who already play guild wars... so needing a previous campaign really isn't an issue. |

Guild Wars: Eye of the North Guided E3 Demo Video
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/02/07 9:06:15 PM
I really couldn't care less about Guild Wars EotN untill I saw the demo. (I am or was a huge Guild Wars fan..) and while this isn't anything mind blowing I think it is just enough to get me to buy it and then wait for Guild Wars 2. |
|
|
Yeah it's never too late to start guild wars. The level cap is 20 and easy to obtain.. the rest is just experience and the items you want which will come over time. Plus people create new character all the time to try different professions and guilds are always recruiting. |
|
|
Frankly if you've played Guild Wars and read the article in the PC Gamer which had a ton of information and a cool example of their changing non-instanced enviorments... I'd have to say more people than not should be excited. I know I am.

Yeah I'm guy and always have played as male... I don't care if guys play as girls but for me I don't want to have to lie and/or correct everyone every single time.. it'd just be a pain for me. That said I always try and play the cute race and ususally play a supporting party profession.. white mage, monk, ritualist, bard, ect..

The good.. The bad.. (my opinion)
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 5/13/07 2:11:32 PM
Just started playing and though i would share my opinions having played FFXI, CoH, CoV, WoW, GW, EQ2, and D&D:Online. Also breifly MapleStory, Vanguard, and ArchLord (and not bias toward any of them other than personal preference.) Anyway: The good: The atmosphere: This game actually makes me want to role play unlike other mmos. It's easy to get imersed into the world. The combat: So far I like how it plays out for the most part. It keeps me entertained. The storyline format: This was one of my favorite things about Guild Wars and LotR includes as well to an nice extent. The not so good: I feel like some of the icons and interface options could use a little spiffying up. I don't know why I guess it seems a little "mecanical" Load screens: It's hard to go back after playing games that hardly use them. Still I don't mind "zoning" to leave an area.. the only thing that is a bummer is also having to zone in other areas in the town.. especially since you have to keep going in and out of them to talk to people for quests...
Overall though I think the good very much outweighs the bad. Certainly one of the best released MMOs in a long time. Anyway just thought I'd share some of my thoughts. I will mostlikely continue to play this after the buddy key expires. Oh and I'm impressed with the look and I'm using the client that only has the low end graphics.. |
