Tiem will tell i suppose..i think everyone said steam would fail,but there it is looking fine and dandy right now,people are resistant to change but this is something i could see working (not on a game i'm playing btw..i'd quit first) but this may well take off if SCEI come along and impliment it..lets not forget thier involvment in SOE nowadays.

And something else that bothers me id the whole "broader audience" thing.

Broader audience means lowest common denominator, which in turn creates generic and bland products. It's this mentality that I believe is partially to blame for the stagnation in this genre.

If Blizzard had put out a sandbox type game  as WOW then we would see a stampede to imitate it just as we're seeing now but sadly they didnt and we're going to be stuck in this generic hell hole of quest baseed/level driven games for a good few years yet.

The money men wont allow anything else,they're looking at getting some reward for thier investment and see the WOW template as the quickest way of getting it back in the bank.

I'll say it again we're in the age of the "casual gamer" and all that entails games cost millions to produce so i really think it'll be a long time before we ever see anything like SWG again..if we ever do of course.

As for micro transactions i can see this taking off tbh time will tell of course but the market may be ready for it.

LoL I find this thread silly. The OP has 7 post total and signed up for this site 2 days ago. I do not believe they have any real intent to play EQ2. They posted here simply to mess with EQ2 players.  

 

If the above statement is true the OP is wasting his time and money on MMOs. It is silly what people will waste their money and valuable time on. There is no bigger waste of a humans time then hurting and grieving others. This is true in life and mmos. People like this must have pretty empty lives. I am sure this is not just the OP's mmo play style but also how he lives his real life.

Things have quietened down since the launch of ROK (it was madness on RE back then) but its still very healthy,much more people have stayed around this time.

It really does depend on what time you play i suppose.

Didnt you meet the queen in the old betrayal quest line? she must have been in the castle i suppose,but yeah i want to get in.

And this,as they say is (hopefully) me...takenawhile back granted but its me..i'll dig out a "billy" shot later as i never tire of seeing him in that illusion :)

Though i would add theres a thread on the main boards thats more or less wrapped up the expansion,nothing but speculation of course but a wonderful read.

Playing Vanguard i'll say again the current devs are doing a fine job..but as mentioned elsewhere its a very small team and sadly i cant see it getting much bigger becuase as Obee rightly says MMO's who suffer a bad launch dont recover.

They can call it what they want,just so long as its better than ROK

As for this update all will say this..excellent news how many times have we all sent cash over to alts etc? for me countless times i can tell you so its good to see its been sorted.

Grey quests..as a quester brilliant and about time now let the next LU start fixing some the bugs then the game for me at least i'll be in hogs heaven

I would say theres been a lot of DNS attacks recently,eq2 alakazam,eq2 flames are just 2 sites that i can think of off the top of my head.

Got to agree with Flem on this,at first glance anyway..theres much more needed to the old zones this of course we all know so any crumb they offer has to be a good thing. But i wont be jumping from the rooftops just yet

Since march 2005 i've tried more or less every new MMO and frankly the only one i've stuck with is EQ2,if we're in an age of linear quest based MMO's (which we are :() i may as well play the best on the market atm.

The mind boggles at how well SOE have done with EQ2 and yet the same company inflicted the NGE on to people.

On the release of Kunark expansion something really changed, since SOE started to use these huge landzones the overall quality of the outdoor graphics changed to be less appealing IMO, the Everquest2 trademark has always been high end graphics but rather small but very high detailed zones..Without the smaller zones the graphics of EQ2 is rather poor..

It has almost no flora engine to speak of, the current one always has been VERY poor, and the introduction of Kunarks huge zones made this aspect very clear, you didn't notice the flaw with the poor flora engine in the smaller zones, atleast not as much as in Kunark..So, I quit EQ2

However, the characther graphics/animations and overall life feel, Is still the best..add to that Full Speech on almost every NPC, well NO MMO has that ..

As for the flora aspects i'd agree with you,its hopeless in ROK and poor in other areas but you could forgive that becuase of the overall aspects of the smaller zones in the other parts of the game.

My hope is with the next expansion they've learnt from the ROK experiment and dont repeat it both looks wise and content wise.

My mains are mages and yes i'm sick of wearing the same robe over and again,its something that really needs to be addressed soon becuase while some armour models have got better the mage class certainly hasnt,for 80 levels i've been a high elf in the same dress just slightly different colours.
