Add ons are fixes to the game, no matter what some of you addon naysays are saying, they only fill the gap where the developer made a bad decision.

Like the post OP! In my opinion, Asheron's Call had the best way of handling PVP! there we're White (nonpk) servers, and 1 Red (pk) server.

Heres an excerpt of the wiki

Game World

"The world itself is large at over 500 square miles (1,300 km2). Unlike many other games in the genre, there are no zones. This means players can cross the world on foot, without loading screens or invisible barriers, and any terrain that can be seen in the distance is a real object in the world. It also has a much longer viewing distance than other games of its vintage, with mountains, bodies of water and other terrain being visible long before it is actually approached.

The world is also dotted with a system of one-way portals which expedite travel. Knowing the location and destination of the portals, as well as lifestones, is of vital strategic importance - especially on the Darktide (PVP) server, where allegiances battle each other constantly for dominance over lucrative hunting zones and trading cities.

Apart from the seamless surface world, some of the portals also lead to intricate dungeons. Many of the dungeons are part of quests and contain unique treasures. Dungeons are often much more difficult to navigate than the surface world. They include dizzying labyrinths of passageways in which it is possible to get lost or cut off from your adventuring group, trapped in pits due to missing difficult jumps, stuck behind locked doors, or simply surrounded and overwhelmed by beasts. Some doors require keys. Other dungeons have a series of levers which open otherwise impassable doors, and require group teamwork and timing to run or jump through."

Battle System

"Players attune themselves to lifestones. Upon losing all of their health players will be resurrected at the last lifestone they attuned themselves to, having lost half their pyreals, one or more valuable items, and temporarily losing a certain percentage of their primary and secondary statistics due what is known as a "vitae penalty". The resurrected player may then go to the place the death occurred and recover the item(s) and pyreals from his or her corpse. If killed by another player the victor is allowed to take the dropped items from the vanquished player. The vitae penalty is removed by gaining a small amount of experience.

Player Killers, also known as PKs, are players who have chosen to change their status to enable them to attack other PKs in Player vs Player combat. On most servers players by default are prevented from attacking each other and must change their status to allow themselves to become PKs. One server, however, is completely PK; players are able to attack each other at will and cannot remove their PK status on Darktide."

Allegiance System ( aka guild )

Asheron's Call features a unique allegiance and fealty system that creates formal links between players and rewards cooperative play. A player of equal or lower level can swear allegiance to a player of the same or higher level, becoming a vassal of a patron. The patron earns a small percentage of bonus experience based on what the vassal makes, while the vassal is motivated to seek a patron exchange for money, items, game knowledge or protection. In the words of one reviewer: "At worst, the allegiance system is a multilevel marketing scheme, whereby greedy, uncaring Patrons enlist as many Vassals as possible in order to gain large amounts of bonus experience. But at best, the allegiance system can provide a tightly knit companionship for players genuinely interested in helping others and developing an organized assembly." Players may also join together in fellowships, temporarily splitting the experience they gain amongst themselves.

Heres a link to the full wiki

I feel this system created meaningful and memorable pve and pvp experiences.

Yamoto wins this thread.
Asheron's Call only combat system is on par with FPS combat, which require real skill, rest of them for the lame brained.

lol what a shite list

GW2 which is A inferior to GW1 at small scale pvp and B inferior to DAOC, both planetsides and maybe even WAR at RVR

WOW which has the shittiest PVP ever, and went on to spawn a bunch of equally shite at PVP clones.

and 3 MOBAs, non of which is DOTA 2, which will be the MOBA of 2013

anyway top 5 MMOs for PVP in 2013 will be

EVE - STILL

planetside 2

darkfall UW

DAOC - STILL

TESO OR GW2

That's why WoW went from being known for PVE to being known for PVP. Sorry but if you think that WoW has shit PVP you are just a daft person. Though not as good as it use to be with all the Talent changes, the PVP from WoW set the standard of what player vs. player should be like in MMO's.

The only standard it set is what makes money, and it only makes money because majority of the fans of MMORPGs crave easy mode combat. End of story.

Ever since everquest came up with the heatseeking missile combat, where nothing is dodgable in real time and your mashing lame little "skills", every game with the same combat system does not qualify for MMORPG PVP awards.

Real Skill PVP for the win, AC, PS, EVE.

Asheron's Call, EVE only games with what I consider good PVP. End of story.

If ESO for reason changed up there whole game, keeping the combat (fps style) from previes ES games, kept the epic quests, and kept a skill based system ( like previous ES games ), made it entirely open world, with out silly copies, and maybe focused more community enchancing things, unlike Facebook integration which is just silly, it might have a chance, but no developer in his right mind would do that how far they've come with there crap, they gonna release and make whatever money they can back and call it done.

Stop acting like you know, you're a myth maker.

Doesn't take much to assume, this gonna be a nother themepark shithouse, end of story.

I see the trailer and become depressed.  It's a beautiful world they have created but sadly it's looking more like a typical MMO rather than an Elder Scrolls game.  They had no right to take away the core freedoms fans have came to expect out of the series.  It is an established IP that stands by it's own merits with open-ended adventures.  Suddenly they are focusing on PvP DAoC style and taking away defining elements to create this vision.

Looks really good, but the whole time I was thinking hmm this reminds me of another game.  Very swtor-esque.

Was thinking exactly the same myself

- hero engine

- long CGI trailers

- little or no gameplay footage released

Screams another SWTOR to me.

The sandbox crowd will be happy when ToA launches :D

I want an Asheron's Call world changing quests, epic  quests, and open world, and combat physics, allegiances! Combined with Wurm terraforming and crafting, ect.

Put this on Euclideon graphics, and Neurosky control system.

Timelapse of Wurm construction, basic house

From their descriptions it seems a lot like the typical themepark.

This sums it up quite nicely.

Pros, Elder scrolls lore, graphics

Cons, developers have no idea how to use the lore, heavily instanced, class based instead of skill based, themepark BS, subs will be up first couple monthes, then majority of players will leave except those who like themeparks and easy mode

Yeah i mean thats what happends to all the WoW clones but this game has alot of potential and im kinda excited for beta. after my favorite game of all time died a horrible death (darkfall 1.0/darkfall online) and the new game darkfall unholywars sucked balls i kinda have to try and find something that might interest me and ES games are epic and ESO might be aswell! i just hope there is some fun PvP either super competetive like WoW arena so you can get better nad see rank and so on.. or really good raiding.

Diablo never really held the throne, unless you count D2 ladder, which was a pitiful throne indeed, consisting of 1) players using bots to farm for items, to sell to companies, to sell to players, 2) players using bots to macro baal runs.

Only good thing about D2 was its mods, and dueling.

Proof of stagnations = everyone excited about ESO beta, when it's already so far along a bad path there is no turning back.

In Asheron's Call the is one giant, seamless ( no zones ) world! There is certain ammount of Cottages, then Villas, and then few Mansions you can own, some with benefits as nearer to city, or good monster hunting grounds! Many players on the PK server raid other peoples mansions, heres a video of one allegiances attacking another mansions!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYTuir4oluQ ~ Mansion raid

I think Asheron's Call 1 has the most robust combat mechanics, when monsters or players are firing at you, say arrows, crossbow bolts or magic spells you can dodge them, not insta pathed to you, also means you have to time and calculate your own attacks!

heres a few videos of examples I could find

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhLdzvLtemQ ~ Missile skill ( bow in this example, throwing weapons and crossbow also play differently )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaHsHnDG07c ~ War Magic skills

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nYOP1iz4OI ~ Void Magic + Dual weild

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPj9wI7m1B8 ~ Melee skill example ( dagger, all melees play differently )

With the physics mechanics, and the ability for all players to heal themselves generally the outcome of any battle is changing many ways, combine that with openworlds, lack of zoning, great landscapes and structures with real time combat and you have your self a awesomely paced, and enjoyable game.

Best thing to do is give it a shot and keep practicing! A level 10 can beat a level 35 with using "player skill" in dodging and attacking! or any level range really be it a level 126 vs a 275!

And this was just combat, there was actual crafting, searching around the world for parts to an uber weapon, or basic things like sitting in town fletching arrows!

Hi, im searching for a PvP based game, if possible no RNG. I played a lot of games, GW2, LoL, BLC, Forge.... etc etc but no one please me. Can you suggest me one of this kind of game(MMORPG/MMOPFS/MOBA)
