They mentioned a patch in early October that was supposed to include more missions and power revamps.

When does "early October" start?

Sure, zombies are cool, but they still have issues with broken powers and huge mission gaps in leveling. You get forced into FOTM builds just to be a viable superhero. The one good side effect is that in PVP, you know exactly what powers people have, since if you aren't FOTM, you are just a blood smear on the wall.

Blood Moon is gravy, they need to work on the meat & potatoes first.

Graphics look great, I just hope it can live up to the IP.

Is it just me or does Lee Dotson look like a humanized Borg?

 Dang.....

I sure wish they would hold these things at a better time so adults with jobs can participate as well.

Excellent review, although I think  the game should not have received more than a 6.5 score, I think the reviewer added points due to the  game's "potential", which is bad mojo. The game deserves the score it earns at the time of play, not on what it might be in the future.

I like the game, although I cancelIed my sub. I play it about 5-7 hours a week right now (played up to 4 hrs a day before the insane nerf orgies started on release day), I would play more  if I was confident that the devs won't nerf the crap out of everything every day. I cringe every evening that I log into the game, wondering how badly they gimped my characters this time. Too many powersets are just unplayable right now, and limping through sparse content while grinding with a gimped pure powerset, is not fun.

The game has metric assloads of potential, it could become the 2nd best mmo on the market, but it will never live up to that potential if the devs continue to be heavy handed with the nerf nukes instead of working on the underpowered powers. They released too early with too little content and have decided to punish the customers by nerfing XP and powers while buffing the "critters" so you cannot level up too fast and see the all the boards holding up the fake storefronts.

I will play for the rest of the free month with the game in this condition, heck I might actually pay for another month, but I cannot justify paying for a superhero game that doesn't make me feel super and isn't that fun.

I stand corrected.

I have rage issues I apologize.

Not to kick you while you are down....

But IGN is hosting the contest, not Cryptic.

I don't think I have ever seen a car-give-away offer that spanned multiple countries, as a matter of fact I believe every time I see a car raffle or other give away promotion it always has the fine print stating:

offer valid only in the continental United States

So I wouldn't expect to ever win a European car in a give away (I live in the States). Mainly due to huge shipping costs, taxes and emissions standards problems.

I played open beta, and early release, I got bumped off server twice during that time.

Of course I work during the day and didn't worry about the problems they have had today, The servers came back up around 7:00 CDT and I'm playing right now, so I am not sure what the OP is raging about. Having downtime happens at launches, if we lived in a perfect world it might be different, don't get so upset about it.

Champions has had one of the better launches I have been lucky to be part of.

OP needs to smoke a doobie and relax.

Throwing  temper tantrums about a game is no way to go through life, son...

Indeed. P2P+cash shop is a deal-breaker for me. PvP sounds like it will be very limited, as well.

I ask to leave this out, but i knew i would get these comments, i just propose this question....do you not play games that have leveling and gold selling services as well?

No, using leveling and gold selling service is cheating.

There is no point in playing a game in which you have to cheat, it isn't a game at that point.

I find your last sentence interesting.  It seems Cryptic has been very clear that cosmetics are the primary sale item for the micro-transactions, and that anything that can affect game play (not many planned at this point from their statements) can be earned in game if desired.  How does that get you to "...you have to cheat"?

I was responding to someone who asked if we "play games that have leveling and gold selling services", what part of that was "interesting"? I commented that buying gold from goldfarmers is cheating, nothing more.

Blizzard sells some cosmetics directly (e.g. name changes) and some indirectly (e.g. game card pets / abilities).  If Cryptic starting selling their cosmetics mostly via trading cards, would you suddenly be okay with that?  And, more importantly, those cosmetics are hardly required to play the game.  NCSoft sells cosmetic packs, do you refuse to play CoX?

Whether you like it or not, many WoW players buy gold, many CoX players buy influence/infamy, etc...how do you think the gold sellers exist?  They are making money.  Are you worried that someone in Champions will put money down to buy a slightly better weapon and you'll have to spend 4 more hours playing to earn the same?  That exists in WoW, CoX, etc (pretty much all the MMO games)  today...are you unwilling to play any MMO because of this fact?

I get additional abilities in CoX because I've had an account for more than 2 years.  It's indirect, but basically I paid for the additional abilities (by virtue of giving money to NCSoft for so long).

Cheating or not, these things exist in all of the MMO worlds and affect you in exactly the same way that it will affect you in Champions.  Where the money is going is the only real difference.

Edit: Props to natuxatu...I didn't get to that post b/4 I posted mine

How on earth did you get all of that out of me saying  "There is no point in playing a game in which you have to cheat, it isn't a game at that point. "?

Are you angry at me because you are a gold farmer or a patron of gold farmers who thinks that I have somehow "called you out"? I am not sure where the wharrrgarble came from.

what do they look like?  Any server dying?  any server merges whispered?  Any good choices for a starting character?

I re-subbed last month, playing on Everfrost, decent population, several good pick-up groups at lower levels, large high level population. brokers have goods for all levels.

Have not heard of any server merges. But there are servers with bigger populations than mine.

Good luck in your decision.

AoC is still a very competitive game for a casual player, it lacks serious Hardcore lastability right now but in time if they expand it right who knows

I would like to know from the AoC haters what is this amazing game they all play that is like paradaise of MMOs because I would love to come play to.

I played a great many MMOs over the years..they all fail eventually because everyone gets bored at some stage of the same thing every day. AoC is a fun game it just lacks depth of a 20 expansion EQ or WoW at present. But it definatly has the potential to get there. Its a game I resub to and would continue to come back and see just needs to get to the expansion stage add a new race and so on..

Conan also has a film coming out next year that may help rehype the game if its in a good state by then.

This game has suffered from "hype" from the very beginning. The last thing it needs is more "hype".

What the game needs is a decent community, better programmers and a company to run it that won't lie and overhype the game into oblivion.

Oh, did I mention community? That is the worst feature of the game.

You can bring up all kinds of threads and posts about xfire have potential issues with games, we all know it does. And it isn't just aoc that have had this issue, many other games too. I had no issues to get xfire to work with aoc. it was just install the program and voila.

I really wanted to believe this, but so far, the game is working much better since removal. I was having an issue with NPC's not loading in quick enough when I would enter the trader or other zones. Now, they load properly. As well, whenever I would quit AoC, it would go to a black screen and I had to CTRL ALT DEL to get out (in DX10)...this issue is now gone.

Say what you will, but I also see a noticeable difference without it loaded, and I will be removing it from all my systems.

Thus, the whole "Xfire can show a trend" is crap, and instead shows a trend in users "uninstalling" Xfire if anything.

Sounds like you have a problem with your computer. When I played Aoc I never had a problem with X-fire running in the background.

X-Fire does what it is supposed to do (give you an idea of how many people are playing and how well it ranks with other games). Just because it doesn't give you the results you want, doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Xfire was not designed to make AoC look better, it is a tool that can be used to see how "active" a game is.

I sure hope not. The performance in that game is still horrid. Running a Quad CPU, 4GB DDR2, ATI 4870 1GB and CoV still runs like junk. It is the only game I cannot run on full blast. I can only assume revamping and updating the graphics would make it much worse.

Dang, sorry to hear that, but the problem is on your end.

I play COX with all settings maxed out  on a core2duo 3 GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 512MB GTS8800

Your rig's specs are better than mine, yet I can run COX at max with no problems and you cannot.

Definately a user issue, you should get with someone that is knowledgeable  in computers to give you a hand.

now on to the subject of the post:

I would love to see them revamp the graphics in COX, I still consider it my favorite game. The graphics as they stand now aren't too bad but modernizing the look might make the game feel "new" again.

That must be why WoW players smell like cabbage

Fortunately I upgrade my PC regularly, and keep my hardware current so I can play whatever game I want. It is like having your car serviced regularly, or keeping proper maintenance on your house to make sure they last as long as possible.

It is just a console mentality to buy a pc and expect it to be able to play current games in 5 years time.

It may be a fake but it is very believable that a WoW fan threw a temper tantrum like that, I have seen the in-game version of this in WoW multiple times. This happens when the game appeals to a younger audience.

The reason he didn't punch walls and slam doors is because it probably would have gotten him a spanking.

The reason he was getting undressed was due to it being bedtime

" How can you kill that which has no life"?

But seriously, nobody in their right mind would want to kill wow. If wow were to die, then all those people who play it would filter off to other games and ruin those communities, as well. Now I'm not saying that everyone who plays wow is immature, but the wow community (in general) is "enthusiasticly youthful".

Wow is easy to play and simple to master, it appeals to a large segment of people. That is the totality of its charm.

Yay! I'm good to go.

Took me about an hour to patch it up, was not too bad. Kind of expected it for a game that has been out this long.

Anways, out to Cimmeria I go. Thanks for everyones help again.

Awesome. Keep us posted how it goes. Hey, what server did you choose? Let us know if you went PvE or PvP..

Cheers

Try reading his post, it gives you all the information you asked for.

He is on Cimmeria, which, if you play the game you would know is a PVP server.

http://www.rif.org/

well, that explains why the NGE stank so badly...

They created it in only 2 months and the lead dev was made of ass.

That article reads like something a nazi war criminal would write, he does a lot of apologizing and accepts part of the blame, yet he doesn't comprehend what he did wrong.

*knock, knock, anybody home?*

He had not started yet when writing OP.

Please learn to read...

By reading the OP's post you can tell that he is already playing the game, and he doesn't like playing AOC solo.

Involving the players as much as possible with feedback is never a bad thing.

How about using the AoC launcher for feedback? Make it so you have to log in so you get subscribers feedback. I think EQ did this from time to time asking small questions and answering multiple choice questions on their launcher when you logged in or out.
Of course make it optional to turn on/off in the launcher.

I was thinking more about a 1 to 3 question survey option on the launcher. When you log in it pops up with a question. We are already discussing this and something like that does take time to implement but it's something we would for sure look into.

Hey Famine, I have a few suggestions for you. Tell your "volunteer" forum nazis to not delete so many posts that contain negative feedback or forum drama.

Even though you can't please everyone you will learn almost everything there is wrong with your game from these posts. Granted you will have the occasional deuchebag that no matter what you do you wont be able to please but negative posts is a sign of opportunity to make an unhappy customer into a devoted customer. Even if you think he has no clue what he's talking about a little "Hey "customer name here" I just want to let you know that I saw what you posted and I will personaly look into it. Thanks for your input and its greatly appreciated." Things like this go a long way. If you want to lose a customer, just have one of your forum nazis delete his thread with a warning to him to not to do it again. Thats a great way to turn a paying customer into a pissed off customer like myself.

As far as forum drama goes.....your hardcore players love it and will continue to be happy as long as they have a forum where they can say "we just blew up "guild name here" city and we pwned them!" and they know other people will read it. Age of Conan is a pvp game and you need to give your hardcore pvpers a place to show how big their epeen is. You get rid of this and they wont have a place to brag, thus making the whole event of blowing up a city less eventfull. Of course there needs to be a limit of how much drama and flaming there is but let the forums be forums.

Last but not least...your game will fail if you dont get more endgame content. Endgame content is where the money is.

Hope this helps, it was not intended to be disrespectful or a flame.

What you are describing is a poster much like yourself. A poster that can't deliver CONSTRUCTIVE feedback, is NOT more valuable than other posters. Actually what rants and the like normally tend to do is to take a thread off topic into lala-land. Sure AoC haters would love to see that happen. That said, No threads or posts are deleted in AoC forums unless they are discussions about criminal stuff or exploits. Even though you love BS talk, you must understand that a minimum of moderation is needed for a forum to serve it's purpose. The forum is not there for you to have fun and mock other people, the forum is there as FunComs own tool in community communication.

Well....

If the folks that loved playing AOC would spend more time on the official AOC forums posting constructive criticism instead of licking FC's sphincter here on MMORPG or bashing anyone who posts any sort of criticism then maybe others would have a good reference point to what constructive criticism is...

So what does it feel like to be make 78 posts in 9 days about a single game? Wouldn't you feel more at home posting all that valuable information about AOC on the official AoC forums, since you have no interest in any other games here on MMORPG?

What I get from your post is pretty much "go away AoC poster, I only want to see posts of a specific kind". What you ask for is opposite of what any community want to happen. We want to expand the on the number of players and types giving feedback (hence the Advocate program) not  chase people away simply because they don't agree with you or you don't like them.

Your reading comprehension is very poor then.

What I am saying is that AOC fans need to learn what "constuctive criticism" is, once they learn the meaning of those two words then they can get up on their soapbox and complain about others not being constructive

And I could care less if some teenager doesn't agree with me. You could be spending your time more efficiently by posting all your so called "information" on the AOC boards where everyone beleives the same way you do. No one is chasing you away, but if you are only interested in AOC then why aren't you on the official forums, why do you hate the AOC community so much that you leave them on their own to market your opinions here? I know the AOC community is one of the worst ones in any MMO game on the market. Heck, the fact that we have all these new accounts here on MMORPG telling everyone that the game is 10/10 and there aren't any problems, shows us the mindset of the players and community.

The Advocate program will never work. Famine and the rest of the FC mouthpieces have not listened to their customers so far, no one expects them to "turn over a new leaf" and start listening now. There are literaly tens of thousands of posts (on the official forums that you have been avoiding) explaining in great detail what the problems are and how to fix them. If Famine and the rest actually read those posts and spoke with the devs about them (like he keeps saying he does) then there wouldn't be anything left to fix and the game would never have lost 90% of it's players.
