When GG leaves AoC might make a comeback as well. There is absolutely no reason to throw good money at AoC at this time, and all the sycophant apologists aren't doing the game any good at all, pretending that everything is OK, will only lead the devs into a false sense of pride, lessening the game and the entire genre. I don't want FC to fail, I enjoyed the graphics and the musical score, as well as the Conan lore, but pretty graphics and nice music do not make up for an unfinished game with huge gaps in content, poor customer service and a fat pr guy that lies to your face. When asked the question; "What's best in life?" Funcom responds: " To crush your customers hopes and see them driven before you and to hear the lamentations of the players." |

Pre-CU, you couldn't play through the game without buying anything from a crafter. Currently, you can subsist totally on looted gear. Unless you feel the need to Min/Max your equipment, you never need to buy anything from another player. You can play the entire current game without using crafted gear. You couldn't do that in the old version without having crafting skill in your template. Again, I have to say that you're either being intentionally dishonest, or you never actually played the game pre-NGE.
Unless you want to be a ship pilot.. The last time i tried the game, I went through the first tier of pilot, and then I needed a new ship to do the second tier missions, only problem was, I couldn't find one (in the entire galaxy), so i tried leveling my toon for a couple of days, checked again, still couldn't find a new fighter in the entire galaxy.
So you are wrong, you can't play the entire game without purchasing from a player, especially if no other players are making the things you need. |

After reading a large amount of the posts in this thread with folks wondering WHY SWG is in the state it is, I have to make a comment. I played for almost a year (pre-NGE and one month after), it was the most fun I ever had in an MMO, the diversity in abilities, not being shoved into a class I may or may not like , entertainers, I was on my way to becoming force sensetive... but that was then. Now, people are wondering why it seems that SOE isn't making any attempt at cutting overhead by shutting down servers and consolidating populations on the more populated servers, they wonder why SOE still charges for a character to move from one server to another, they wonder why instead of fixing issues, the devs create a stinking card game that needs RL money to get decent cards. I may have an answer, but you won't like it... SOE is soaking you poor saps for all it can, they are doing this because they are losing the Star Wars IP in 2009 and are trying to make a last minute cash grab. SWG will die next year, not sure which month. The reason that Bioware has not made an OFFICIAL announcement abot the KOTORO game is because they are waiting to obtain the IP next year before speaking about it They can't OFFICIALY say anything until the IP is theirs (legal issues). I myself mourn the game that SWG was and I feel bad for the folks who stuck it out hoping things might get better, because it won't. SOE has made some very lousey decisions with the game and have proven to everyone who is a Star Wars fan that they no longer deserve to use the Star Wars IP. SWG will die next year, but Bioware is a good company and the will do a better job with the IP than SOE did. |

Age of Conan: Leipzig Interview with Erling Ellingsen,
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/07/08 8:42:06 PM
Originally posted by Wizardry You just reiterated EXACTLY what Blizzard does but again i see the same Things.Lets cut up funcom and there NEW game but cut Blizzard some slack. How do you know you wern't raped by wow? What if they took out failed content ,you would never know because they don't like to communicate with the public at all.You say they fixed WOW ,therefore you cut them slack?Well FUNCOM is attempting to fix there issues, yet you don't give them the same time frame. In case you didn't read the interview on Bizweekly,Blizzard after 5 years stil lemploys a lot of people to work on there updates/patches,witch means there system is stil lfailing or not? The other problem is when people use VAGUE statements like "WOW is a FUN product"it is? lol it is EXACTLY the same thing as ALL other MMORPG's,But wiuth inferior graphics/textures/models.How do you figure killing mobs is any more fun in WOW than ANY other game?geesh ,it really shows how the term "Fanbois" came abou, they deserve to be raped by BLizzard .In case you havn't followed RPG's for oh say the last 20 years......you engage in melee or magic, that's it,you use your best spells/armour/weapons and kill the mob, there is nothing more to it.ONLY FFXI actually offers a unique combat system that can actually be fun ,especially for a newer player,it wil lget old after many years.Since we are on the AOC topic, they actually tried to incorporate a unique combat system as well,WOW offrs NOTHING to combat uniqeness at all,so saying it is more fun >>>>RFLMAO.
OMG why would an adult mention FFXI ? That game was horrible, horribler graphics, unbearable control options and cameras, not to mention all the 10 year olds that played it. I could only stomach about 2 days of that game, I cancelled my account, deleted it off my system and then threw the box and disks in the trash. Unique combat system? I couldn't agree less... It was the same combat as any other MMO, except that you were forced to group with the pre-teens in game or you couldn't level worth a damn, and they had to be within 2-3 levels of you or no go. When you get raped by a company, you know it, so I'm sure he wasn't raped by Blizzard, he enjoyed the game and had fun, heck I had fun during my year of play in WoW, but I quit Age of Conan after 2 months because I did not feel the game was worth my time or money, and hearing the fat pr guy spew all the bullcrap didn't help my attitude towards Funcom. Wow works, AoC doesn't. Wow has 97% more content than AoC, Wow has functioning PVP AoC doesn't. I have not played WoW in a year, and won't be going back, but AoC will never hold a candle to the amount of fun I had playing WoW. Please don't mention to any more adults that you enjoyed FFXI, they won't think of you in a positive light afterwards.

No, SWGs poor record isn't due to WoW, it is due to several horrible mistakes made by SOE and Lucas Arts. Lucas wanted to allow all the kids who cried and complained because they wanted to be Jedi the ability to just make one from the start instead of playing the game and learning how to become a Jedi over time. That ticked off everyone that had become Jedi or was in the process of becoming Jedi. They destroyed the Entertainer class and skills, destroyed the crafter class and skills, they destroyed the Animal handler class and skills, so most people choose to be a jedi or a bounty hunter in game They tried to make the game as simple as Wow, when the Star Wars fanbase didn't want simple, they wanted complexity and diversity in therir characters. what they have now is all the "Star Wars Kids" playing the game, since all the mature Star wars fans left due to so many poorly made decisions. It is almost like Lucas Arts and SOE wanted the game to be a failure |

No, Star Trek Online isn't dead, but Perpetual Entertainment seems to be. Cryptic has posession of the IP, now, we just have to wait and see if they can do well with it, I have high hopes for the game, since all the other sci-fi genre games out at this time suck harder than the vacuum lines at the drive-thru bank. |

A good horror MMO where the players can be all manner of evil creatures: Vampires, werewolves, slimes, boogeymen(women), Chupacabre, lawyers and marketers. lol Make it so you can take an archetype or create your own monster by assigning points to certain monster skills (claw attacks, bite attacks, pyrokenisis(sp), etc.. There have been so many horror stories that can be used for plot, monsters can lay waste to villages and terrorize townspeople, PVP batlles would be cool monster battles. I think there is a derth of Sci-fi mmos, the few out there usually have very dedicated followers, there are so many IPs that could be used to create an instant fanbase. Firefly (a western sci-fi mmo could be very interesting) Star Trek and Stargate (yes I know they are in development but I am slobbering all over myself waiting) Babylon 5, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica (space battles rock), Flash Gorden, Buck rogers (mmm Wilma), Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy, Alien, Red Dwarf Some lesser known IPs: Ringworld (Larry Nivens "known space" books), Dune (Frank Herbert), Foundation (Isaac Asimov), heck anything by Asimov. I would love to see a sci-fi MMO based on any of these IPs I would play any or all that were made, heck even single player games from these IPs would get my money

Lack of communication on Funcoms part is what is destroying the game. They can still salvage their game and reputation, they just need to communicate with their players more, and acknowledge the mistakes that have been made. If you look at the test server forums, you can see that the test players are warning the devs about issues, yet Funcom has ignored the warnings and is paying the price. I honestly hope Funcom can turn things around, the game has huge potential, but Funcom has put all their eggs in one basket, Conan will make or break Funcom. I purchased two copies of AoC, I have only activated one (and canceled after 2 months), I'm saving the second copy until I can see that Funcom has made significant improvements to the game
