Star Trek Online: Bridges & Bridge Officers Preview

STO closed beta started last month and it is scheduled to be released in February, not nearly enough time to get the bug reports and fixes needed for release date, and if they do the same thing that they did with the beta of CO, they will ignore the beta testers and release the game in all it's un-finished glory.
I'm not dismissing the game entirely, but I'm not going to bother with it until several months after release, hoping that by that time they might have started to add necessary content and fixed the inevitable imbalance issues.
To Cryptic: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. |

Meh, Stay away from games open to the Asian market and you never have to deal with gold spammers and bots.
I have never seen the point to paying a monthly fee for a game in which you are so bad at it that you must cheat to level up. |

Please don't blame STO because you bought a lame computer. |

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: How Important is Marketing to Conan?

This article was cute... Marketing seems to be the only thing that Funcom excels at.

They mentioned a patch in early October that was supposed to include more missions and power revamps. When does "early October" start?
Sure, zombies are cool, but they still have issues with broken powers and huge mission gaps in leveling. You get forced into FOTM builds just to be a viable superhero. The one good side effect is that in PVP, you know exactly what powers people have, since if you aren't FOTM, you are just a blood smear on the wall. Blood Moon is gravy, they need to work on the meat & potatoes first.

Champions Online: Champions Online Review
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/24/09 10:25:31 PM
Excellent review, although I think the game should not have received more than a 6.5 score, I think the reviewer added points due to the game's "potential", which is bad mojo. The game deserves the score it earns at the time of play, not on what it might be in the future.
I like the game, although I cancelIed my sub. I play it about 5-7 hours a week right now (played up to 4 hrs a day before the insane nerf orgies started on release day), I would play more if I was confident that the devs won't nerf the crap out of everything every day. I cringe every evening that I log into the game, wondering how badly they gimped my characters this time. Too many powersets are just unplayable right now, and limping through sparse content while grinding with a gimped pure powerset, is not fun.
The game has metric assloads of potential, it could become the 2nd best mmo on the market, but it will never live up to that potential if the devs continue to be heavy handed with the nerf nukes instead of working on the underpowered powers. They released too early with too little content and have decided to punish the customers by nerfing XP and powers while buffing the "critters" so you cannot level up too fast and see the all the boards holding up the fake storefronts. I will play for the rest of the free month with the game in this condition, heck I might actually pay for another month, but I cannot justify paying for a superhero game that doesn't make me feel super and isn't that fun. |

I don't think I have ever seen a car-give-away offer that spanned multiple countries, as a matter of fact I believe every time I see a car raffle or other give away promotion it always has the fine print stating: offer valid only in the continental United States
So I wouldn't expect to ever win a European car in a give away (I live in the States). Mainly due to huge shipping costs, taxes and emissions standards problems. |

I played open beta, and early release, I got bumped off server twice during that time. Of course I work during the day and didn't worry about the problems they have had today, The servers came back up around 7:00 CDT and I'm playing right now, so I am not sure what the OP is raging about. Having downtime happens at launches, if we lived in a perfect world it might be different, don't get so upset about it. Champions has had one of the better launches I have been lucky to be part of. OP needs to smoke a doobie and relax. Throwing temper tantrums about a game is no way to go through life, son... |

I find your last sentence interesting. It seems Cryptic has been very clear that cosmetics are the primary sale item for the micro-transactions, and that anything that can affect game play (not many planned at this point from their statements) can be earned in game if desired. How does that get you to "...you have to cheat"? I was responding to someone who asked if we "play games that have leveling and gold selling services", what part of that was "interesting"? I commented that buying gold from goldfarmers is cheating, nothing more. Blizzard sells some cosmetics directly (e.g. name changes) and some indirectly (e.g. game card pets / abilities). If Cryptic starting selling their cosmetics mostly via trading cards, would you suddenly be okay with that? And, more importantly, those cosmetics are hardly required to play the game. NCSoft sells cosmetic packs, do you refuse to play CoX? Whether you like it or not, many WoW players buy gold, many CoX players buy influence/infamy, etc...how do you think the gold sellers exist? They are making money. Are you worried that someone in Champions will put money down to buy a slightly better weapon and you'll have to spend 4 more hours playing to earn the same? That exists in WoW, CoX, etc (pretty much all the MMO games) today...are you unwilling to play any MMO because of this fact? I get additional abilities in CoX because I've had an account for more than 2 years. It's indirect, but basically I paid for the additional abilities (by virtue of giving money to NCSoft for so long). Cheating or not, these things exist in all of the MMO worlds and affect you in exactly the same way that it will affect you in Champions. Where the money is going is the only real difference. Edit: Props to natuxatu...I didn't get to that post b/4 I posted mine
How on earth did you get all of that out of me saying "There is no point in playing a game in which you have to cheat, it isn't a game at that point. "?
Are you angry at me because you are a gold farmer or a patron of gold farmers who thinks that I have somehow "called you out"? I am not sure where the wharrrgarble came from.

That is the worst feature of the game. |

Originally posted by openedge1 I really wanted to believe this, but so far, the game is working much better since removal. I was having an issue with NPC's not loading in quick enough when I would enter the trader or other zones. Now, they load properly. As well, whenever I would quit AoC, it would go to a black screen and I had to CTRL ALT DEL to get out (in DX10)...this issue is now gone. Say what you will, but I also see a noticeable difference without it loaded, and I will be removing it from all my systems. Thus, the whole "Xfire can show a trend" is crap, and instead shows a trend in users "uninstalling" Xfire if anything.
Sounds like you have a problem with your computer. When I played Aoc I never had a problem with X-fire running in the background.
X-Fire does what it is supposed to do (give you an idea of how many people are playing and how well it ranks with other games). Just because it doesn't give you the results you want, doesn't mean it doesn't work.
Xfire was not designed to make AoC look better, it is a tool that can be used to see how "active" a game is. |

City of Heroes: Going Rogue to Bring Graphics Upgrade?

I play COX with all settings maxed out on a core2duo 3 GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 512MB GTS8800 Your rig's specs are better than mine, yet I can run COX at max with no problems and you cannot. Definately a user issue, you should get with someone that is knowledgeable in computers to give you a hand.
now on to the subject of the post: I would love to see them revamp the graphics in COX, I still consider it my favorite game. The graphics as they stand now aren't too bad but modernizing the look might make the game feel "new" again. |

General: Massey: Accessible Subscription MMOs?
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/03/09 1:44:03 PM
That must be why WoW players smell like cabbage
Fortunately I upgrade my PC regularly, and keep my hardware current so I can play whatever game I want. It is like having your car serviced regularly, or keeping proper maintenance on your house to make sure they last as long as possible.
It is just a console mentality to buy a pc and expect it to be able to play current games in 5 years time. |

It may be a fake but it is very believable that a WoW fan threw a temper tantrum like that, I have seen the in-game version of this in WoW multiple times. This happens when the game appeals to a younger audience.
The reason he didn't punch walls and slam doors is because it probably would have gotten him a spanking. The reason he was getting undressed was due to it being bedtime |

" How can you kill that which has no life"?
But seriously, nobody in their right mind would want to kill wow. If wow were to die, then all those people who play it would filter off to other games and ruin those communities, as well. Now I'm not saying that everyone who plays wow is immature, but the wow community (in general) is "enthusiasticly youthful". Wow is easy to play and simple to master, it appeals to a large segment of people. That is the totality of its charm.
