That magazine has changed so much and switched editors so many times in the last few years, I wouldn't really take stock in anything they say. I just ended my subscription of 15 years because most of the articles they have in there nowadays are utter rubbish.

If it takes you only 45 minutes to determine whether or not you want to play a game, then MMO's are definetly not for you.

I have created a forum account to post on  the official forums but still have not received a confirmation email, this is going on one whole day now. Is there any way to have it resent or to expedite the process?

I decided to give the game a go and bought it thru Steam. I'm probably going to go melee starting out and wondered if I should go Enforcer.   Planning on leveling skills Melee, Armor, Dodge, and Athletics.  Does that sound about right? Any input is greatly appreciated as I hear no respecs are available, and I don't want to gim my character.

Look forward to seeing you all in the Wastelands!

Good to know, now whether to go ranged, or melee? LOL

So eventually items deteriorate to the point of being unuseable?

Wow guys thanks for the recent replies. My fav mmo of all time was Asheron's Call 1, which had a skill based system. In my opinion talent trees took some of the luster out of figuring your build out.  I currently play LOTRO, and WoW, and neither seem to really hook me for long.    LOTRO is not delievering on their content as promised, and WoW while a good game, has a horrid player base.  I'm 38 yo and looking for something more "mature".  Any other tips you guys may have for me?

Oh my laptop has almost identical specs to my desktop, except windows vista 64 bit, can I expect similar performance?

Is there such a thing as item deterioration, and are repair cost heinous?

Tired of cookie cutter mmo's, I'm contemplating buying this game.

First a few question....

1. I'm thinking of buying it thru steam, any special offer items?(horse or buggy?) Do these items make much of a difference starting off? Can I easily obtain a horse on my own?

2.  My system spec are

 a. Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 ghz(E6600)

 b. EVGA Geforce 9800 GT OC(512 MB)

 c.  4 GB  RAM.

d. Sound Blaster Xtreme Gamer

e. 2.5 Mbps connection(AT&T DSL)

What kind of performance, graphics should I expect with those results?

3. No respecs? But can I have multiple characters on one account? And if so how many?

4.  Do you grind dungeons for gearing up or do you make end game items? I believe I read somewhere 95% of items are crafted?

5. Lastly and most importantly, community.  Is there alot of asshattery and douchebaggery or is it a pretty mature community?

   Thanks for your time!

like I said 4 pages of bugs and complaints in the US boards1.05 feedback forum since the servers came back up, that is more threads than the general forums over there get in a week. Cal it minor complaint or spin it how you want the proof will be in the third quarter financial report on whether it was a success or not.

Unless you have  logged in and actually tested the changes for yourself, please STFU.

Tried that but GM Odom comfirmed with me it is something on their end they are aware of , and he will get back with me.

I set up the forum login on the account management page, where it say Create/Update forum login.  So i dont know what else to do.

I bought the full game yesterday and upgraded my trial account. From the account management page I set up my forum login but it is not allowing me to access the forums. I keep getting invalid login/password,  1 of 5 tries to login. Anyone have any ideas?  And for some reason when I submit my email for them to send me my forum login/pw, it says invalid email address. But is shows the same one I'm entering on the account management page. WTH?

Well I begin day 1 of the trial tomorrow, I downloaded it last night(>8GB). Looking forward to takin this game for a spin!

Thanks for all the replies, please keep them coming if you have anything constructive to add.

ok well that is good to know. I almost considered giving EQ2 another try ,  but that was only as a last resort.

So I should be able to run it on high without any issues?

Umm my computer specs roughly:

Core 2 Duo E6600 @  2.4 Ghz

4 GB RAM

Soundblaster X-Fi

EVGA 9800 GT(512 MB)

Windows XP Home Ed.

All drivers up to date.

What kind of visuals can I expect to see with that setup? Will it run it ok or no?  And you said roll on a PvE server? Is the griefing that bad on PvP?  And does the game seems segmented or do the zones flow together pretty easily?

I am currently subscribed to WAR and LOTRO. I'm starting to get bored with both, and am looking for something fresh to play.   I am in the process of downloading the trial now (last file is around 8 Gigs!)  and was wondering a few things.

In LOTRO you had wonderful PvE but horrid PvP. The Devs really seemd to listen to their customer base up until Book 7, then the bottom fell out. Almost daily server down times,  anti exploit bug (if a npc could not figure out the pathing to target you, you cant attack it) getting larger, and the major nerf to hunters (which my main character was).  It seems that everything in the new update is a rep grind.  Which is ok if you want to grind the same quests over and over again, but not for me.   The game is incredibly stable though, and IMO has beautiful enviornments. The player models are ok but I have seen better.

In Warhammer, the graphics are  a step above WoW, but not by much.  I love that you can do public quests, scenarios, or some PvE(very light PvE in this game). The problem is that in order to have any fun or do anything there has to be other people on , to que scenarios, to do keep raids, etc.    And usually when I play (7AM-3PM CST) not that many people are on. That causes me sometimes to wait 4-5 hours before a scenario pops. Which can become tedious.   I have been known to fall asleep at the keyboard waiting for something to happen.

So what does AoC have that these don't? What do they share in common  and what sets AoC apart? Are the Devs here heavy with the nerf bat?  Is the game segregated into little instances?  Which server do you think might fit my playstyle?

I prefer some replies from people who may have or are playing these  3 games presently.  Ty for any input.

PC Gamer has been a horrible magazine for quit some time now. Ever since they took up  5-10 pages to advertise for cell phone games! Cell phone games, I mean really? And how many times have they changed editor in chief in the last few years?

Depends what the company deems a failure isn't it, some may be realistic with their sub estimates and be happy with 100k subs to cut even or make a profit, who are we to decide what is profitable and what isn't when there are games out there that seem to defy that very logic, I mean if it's true that Neocron2 has about 6k subs then how come it's still going?

I would dare not try to understand why 1 company deems having so few customers as being worthwhile in keeping the servers going but they do and let us be glad that such companies are still around because if it was left to those that had millions of customers what choices are we as gamers left with then? not bloody many at all.

With the Lord of the Rings IP Turbine should be able to have atleast a couple of million subs so in that regard is LotRO a failure.

You may think that LotRO is the most fun MMORPG that you have ever played but that's not the point.

Neocron 2 may stay afloat on 6k subs because they have no devs working on new content, no GM:s and no custom support.

You can't really compare the world of Tolkien with some unknown sci-fi MMO.
