Oblivion is a game.  Over 80 hours of content (if you do everything).  If oblivion had multiplayer I wouldn't consider the mulitplayer as part of the core game.

When I spend 60 bucks on a game I want tons of content and multiplayer only when I'm bored because 99% of the time mulitplayer is nothing but a gankfest and I can get that experience from nearly any game that has a multiplayer feature.   Its not usually as deep as the core content.

Maybe some people dont want to talk while they play.  wtf is wrong with that?

I prefer not to chat myself.  When I do I hear all sorts of annoying shit that I regret using the headset.

See this is why pc games are sucking now.  Console gamers come to pcs and wonder what a keyboard is.  Omfg I can't type!  How can I play if I can't (yell, burp, fart, play music, eat, talk about sports, make odd noises, curse, talk about wife, talk about kids, etc) in someones ear!  So pc developers and third parties create a way for console gamers to annoy pc users and have them (insert more random shit here) in their ears too.

I read on ign a minute ago, halo:reach takes 9 - 10 hours on HEROIC difficulty to complete!  wtf?  You want me to pay 60 bucks for 10 hours of gameplay?  Kiss my ass bungie.  Put more meat in your games please.  I want my moneys worth.  I work hard for it.

Meh, its f2p, nothing else needs to be said.

I have been busy playing Fallen Earth for a year now and probably will continue for another year. However I needed a fantasy fix and I have always kept an eye on Darkfall.

I downloaded the trial which generously gives 14 days.

Ok the graphics aren't cutting edge but I understand the need to keep lag down for those crazy battles and free aiming etc.

My biggest disappointment is the community and my first experiences with players.

A few key points:
1. Tutorial is inadequate so I resorted to asking questions in one of the channels.  What I mostly got was people laughing at my questions or complete silence.  Upon asking 5min, 10min, later, someone was kind enough to answer.

2. I grab 2 basic introduction missions and head out of the starter town.  I probably ran for 20 seconds before a powerful player totally owns me.  Then continues to own me each time I step out.  Great intro to a new MMO I have to say. (Note. they have 24 hr non pvp for new players but I couldnt play for first 24hrs)

3. When I enquired in chat if this was normal behaviour for a much stronger player to own brand new players to the game, I end up with comments like 'Yes, its to keep the carebears away' or 'its all about power in this game'.  Sorry that is Bull.S.  If I go and stomp on a mouse that doesn't make me powerful, it’s just sad and pathetic.

I love PvP and I am attracted to PvP MMO's.  However, if the guys who make Darkfall want to increase their subs through trial users.  They need to improve the tutorial and at least make a small space outside for the starter missions safe.  I know this game is hardcore and I know it is supposed to be real but giving a new starter a chance to breath and work their way through the UI and gameplay without being pwned by every mother out there is not taking away from the focus of the game.

Even so I am sufficiently interested to look into the game more and see how it rolls out, but right now its not the game I worry about, but the community.  Remember, loving PvP doesn't mean you have to be a gutless pwning tool.

Why do you think the community would (or could) be different than what it is?  I don't play gankall because I know ffa pvp brings out the worst in idiots that are already assholes to begin with.  Their naughty bits tingle and they giggle like 12 year olds when anticipating a chance to gank anyone, especially a lowbie (lowbies are no challenge).  I say take the karma and swallow it.  You put yourself in that enviroment.  I can't feel sympathy for you.

Warhammer is also simply a solid IP to use for a mass PvP game. It sounds like it has settled in nicely with a stable core set of fans. Warhammer was never going to fail though it has too much of a harsh edge for it to ever be widely popular. War is brutal and few can handle it. Warhammer brings that across nicely.

Brutal how? as far as i know there isnt any harsh death penalty, neither is it brutal in the way of blood or gore, isnt it T rated? Harsh edge? it seems like a game that was supposed to appeal to the masses, but lacked in content / other areas.

Mortal Online and DFO is Brutal (gameplay wise, harsh death penalty's)

AoC is brutal blood and gore wise.

Now i havent played WAR, but yea as far as i know from what ive read and seen on vids its not brutal in any way.. And im not bashing your post or anything, please elaborate and explain how its brutal :) and we'll see if i agree.

Forgive viking, this is probably his first pvp game.  Now he'll post "No its not, I've played blah blah and blah and blah" which will make him look even more ignorant because he should know better.

T1 is  so much fun because freebies have access to it and there are no defenseless keeps to zerg farm for hours.

In my experience and I played every day in the mornings due to my evening job and before that I played alot in the evenings when I was out of work, tiers 2 and 3 are mostly empty on badlands, volkmar and gorfang.  Yes you do see the enemy occasionally but its due to them running around zerg farming keeps. In nearly every open rvr stiuation, we would be a small group of order looking for action but what we would get was a 2 warband keep farming zerg that suddenly appeared and wiped their asses with us.  Dying is fine, I don't like being raped continually.

I've been told t4 is active like t1 so if you can survive the mundane boring undefended keep farming zone hopping zerg mechanic from t2 - t3 (and t4?) then I guess you'll be ok. I'm not sure I have that kind of patience and besides that, knowing endgame consists of repeatedly taking the enemy capital doesn't sound like much of an endgame to me.  When I quit again a few days ago I had several t3s, no t4 toons.

I would often see idiots in chat yell for everyone to leave a very fun open rvr situation to form a zerg and run around to farm defenseless keeps in other zones.  It was disheartening.  Thats what made me quit again. I rememer the moment.  We were behind mandreds on badlands.  Order ran around behind the keep till we pulled out a group of anxious destro.  They called friends and more destro appeared.  We charged them, they fell back, they charged us, we fell back.  Both sides used strategies.  It was immediate and gratifying fun open rvr.  Someone yelled "lets all take dwarf".  So like a pack of lemmings everyone but a few of us left.  Destro were lined up behind mandreds waiting for us.  I watched them all leave because most everyone disappeared.  No enemy to fight, no rvr.  I took my white lion to the warcamp logged off and quit.

I doubt I'll return unless the new rvr patch / pack / addon, w/e the fuck its called gives open rvr ALOT of loving, discourages endless keep farming zerging and looks to be fun.

Don't be fooled.  Its been my experience rvr is not as active and fun as tier 1 (again I did not have a t4 toon).

These developers and thier inability to understand ps3 tech has this game looking like complete dogshit.

Its like they ported this straight from xbox on the lowest setting possible and added blur.

Its terrible and i'm getting tired of these developers releasing these good rpgs in that type of graphical quality.

........and add another faction, war seriously needs another faction.

Warhammer was screwed from the begining.  I quit again recently due to the ridiculous keep farming realm hopping zergs.  Those idiots enjoy farming defenseless keeps for hours for easy rp / xp.  No challenge = no fun.

Tier 1 is great.  No keeps to farm and there is always action.  You see the enemy alot because the rvr lake is small.

I don't mind the idea of keeps but war has too many pairings, too many pqs, too much game for the small population (which gives the illusion, true or not, that war is empty and dying, a failure).  Take out the useless pairings, have everyone funnel through the same content and I'll come back.  Funneling everyone through the same content will give everyone a chance to see and fight the enemy more often.

In other words, make warhammer more like daoc (which everyone wants a new version of anyway).

Seen this before

If you preorder you'll get an email saying the release date has been delayed to march.  They don't know when the game will release or if they do they're baiting you to preorder thinking you'll get the game this year.

meh, tera will not be mainstream popular due to all the work required

people want a casual mmorpg

after being at work all day, dealing with kids, bills, etc most do not want a game that requires alot of extra work, they want the casual wow mechanics because games shouldn't be work, they should be an entertaining escape

however, tera will have its loyal fans

This will only serve to confuse and frustrate players.

I see this "feature" being removed due to the amount of vile hate sony will receive.

In the future games will finally reach the point where the graphics look as good as real life and even better.  And the masses will say "Meh, looks like a wow clone."

No they'll say, "this game looks like real life, I live real life everyday, why would I want to play it in a game?"

Some people are never (or refuse to be) satisfied, no matter what you do.

5.) Taxing System Requirements

Whenever you’re releasing a game that needs to sell a lot of copies, not to mention run extremely smooth on one’s system for gameplay reasons, it’s probably in your best interest to keep your requirements down. But RTW decided to shirk that creed, and aim for what I like to expertly call the “super-shiny” looks. This creates the opposite effect, and raised the minimum system requirements for their game. Sure a player can run APB on modest settings and keep the action fluid, but then it winds up looking like dog poo, and all the time and effort you spent on creating your avatar’s appearance is then flushed down the drain. APB looks good (minus some fairly stiff animations), but at the cost of performance. That’s a no-no when it comes to capturing a large user-base for your MMO, as past entries into the genre have proven. But therein lays another potential misstep… APB’s not easily categorized.

THIS!  THIS!  THIS!  THIS! THIS!

Eye candy whores read the above paragraph.

I will not play gw2 due to one problem, well its a problem for me:

It will be full of instancing (aoc anyone?)

I like open worlds with very little or no instancing

Giving no new release date = we have no idea what we are doing

another f2p, no thanks

Considering all the hype and I'm sure massive amount of money poured into a popular ip, I would not be suprised to see SW:KOTOR the first mmorpg with a 20 dollar monthly fee.

Drizzt Do' Urdens dad is helping to create a game world?

I'm in.
