Huge laggy raids, instanced bgs, tier armor sets, etc. All this has been done a zillion times before. Rift is the same game you've played years ago. |

Dark Age of Camelot: Virtue and Tradition
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/06/11 12:51:45 PM
I quit DAOC long ago. I grew tired of the buffbots. Its not the same as having two people play. If two were playing then fine but plopping a higher level toon in a bg and using that account to buff the one account you're actually playing is wrong. Its an abuse of a game mechanic and should not be a "feature". I may return to DAOC eventually but I doubt it. |

I can't buy this game based on principle which few people seem to have nowadays. I don't like knowing an internet connection is required for this game. If you don't have one you can't play.....at all.....not even offline single player from what I understand (unless that has changed recently). Yes I have broadband but thats not the point. You can choose and protest with your money because thats what everyone wants from you. I'll be using my money elsewhere. |

You can't play diablo unless you have an internet connection even if you never play online. Most people nowadays have one but to make that a requirement is absolutely ridiculous. However lemmings everywhere will buy it. I'm not so sure I will. They have to earn the right to gain my money. I work hard for it. For now blizzards online requirement does not make me want to give them anything. Yes I do have broadband. |

General: New Report Reveals Declining MMO Subscription Revenue
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/20/11 12:06:17 PM
Originally posted by Distopia I've been saying that forever. Its very true. You'll spend more in a f2p for the same experience you get in a p2p. F2p games are more expensive to play and people berate p2p games because of the "expensive" monthly fee. As I mentioned before, with f2p games developers and publishers win, you lose. |

General: New Report Reveals Declining MMO Subscription Revenue
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/20/11 11:59:43 AM
I expect game quality to decline. We'll not see mmorpgs on the level of warcraft in the future if they're designed from the start with the f2p model in mind. F2p kills quality. You have to design the game with differently. You can't say person x will have that particular quest or weapon by level 10 because person x may not buy it. So games will be dumbed down to appease the simple minded masses that will leap onto the f2p bandwagon. Instead of developers receiving predicted revenue monthly (i.e. 1 million people x 15.00 = 15,000,000) they will have no idea what they'll get with microtransactions (pay as you play) so the desparation level to skew the game mechanics toward money gain will be high. Quality will suffer. With f2p developers and publishers win, you lose.
There will come a day when people will remember when games used to be deep and fun while they suffer through the latest shallow f2p.
I'm glad I got out of mmorpgs. Now I play single player console games. |

lol@ those who can't play games with cartoony graphics |

This is why I gave up on mmorpgs. Everybody is force fed pvp. Tired of it. Its the same old same old gank fest b.s. Nothing new. Its all about the epeen apparently. |

Thats a big reason for the fall of online games today: the inclusion of console gamers. Thats why neary evey mmorpg today has pvp in it because online features of console games have nothing but pvp in them. I can tell you what every multiplayer console map will have from now till the end of time. They'll have a deathmatch mechanic, some form of co-op and some form of capture the flag. So when console gamers try mmorpgs developed for pcs they expect to gank everyone. |

What is so sad is commentary ultimas longevity has against new games. Here we have a 15 year old game.......15 years old......and its far deeper than any online game developed since. That is sad and pathetic. |

Fallen Earth: Log in With Your G1 Account Now
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/01/11 12:15:09 AM
I've looked at gamersfirst other game offerings and I'm not impressed. I wouldn't want to be included with that stable of losers. When you have to log into a portal site to play a game, for me the whole experience is cheapened. The whole process makes the game seem inferior. Portals are a crutch for weak, old, low pop games.......kinda like a retirement home imo. |

Fallen Earth: Get Your GamersFirst Account - Before August 1st
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/24/11 5:15:27 PM
Whenever you have to merge with a gaming portal that is not a good idea. I expect things to go further downhill from here. It adds an air of desparation and makes a game "cheap".......as in inferior. I've been to gamersfirst. The games they host are not the best so I wouldn't want to be included with them. |

Does anyone else keep getting disappointed by PvP
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/06/11 12:37:29 PM
Originally posted by nerrollus Perception is 90% reality. The perception is most people want pvp games. The truth, from what I've read, is most people can tolerate pvp if it isn't full loot and if they can't be continously ganked. Pvp games are easy to make. They lack originality and don't take much creativity. Its like fulfilling a need but you dont care how you fill that need so everything else falls by the wayside. Give an addict a needle and he'll sit in his room and stick himself all day....not caring about the outside, not caring about friends, not caring about family. Give a pvp whore a pvp game and he'll sit and gank all day....not caring about story, how deep the game is, not care about crafting, not care about others (unless they can be ganked). Studios can make a pvp game and let the players make their own experience instead of creating a great game. Let rats run around a maze and fight for the cheese. Why should we do anything exceptional or original? This is what the rats want. This is the reason why multiplayer console maps ALWAYS have the same form of pvp, deathmatch, capture the flag and some form of teamwork mechanic (which includes deathmatch and ctf). Yeah they'll look different but its all the same. Mmorpg pvp games are console multiplayer maps blown out of proportion with a little pve thrown in to keep them from becoming complete and useless chaos. |

Elder Scrolls:Skyrim to be Console Game, then ported to PC.
General Gaming « General Discussion 6/09/11 10:28:35 AM
http://xboxfreedom.com/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-e3-gameplay-footage/ The game looks absolutely amazing and I dont' mean that in an eye candy whore way.......the features, no script dragons, hundreds of hours of gameplay, animations, free roaming wildlife, the ability to cast spells with either hand (using both makes healing more powerful).....make the game amazing. As for skyrim being developed for the console first then ported to pc, its a sign of the times. The days of the pc as a gaming machine are coming to a slow end. You'll see more mmorpgs but more games will be developed for the console first or not ported to pc at all. I like gaming on my pc however consoles have far far less headaches. The money is with consoles and developers / publishers know this. |

EVE Online: Dust 514 to be Exclusive PS3 Title
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/07/11 12:46:56 PM
http://n4g.com/news/779265/skyrim-e3-gameplay-footage I'm aching for this game. Absoutely amazing. I've always liked bethesdas stuff but they have a bad habit of not addressing horrible bugs once their game is released or maybe they have icompetent programmers who can't do anything but program in directx.
omg, its at least 300 hours long. Now THAT is a game worth 60 bucks, not these mutltimap fragfests with a 10 hour single player campaign. |

EVE Online: Dust 514 to be Exclusive PS3 Title
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/07/11 12:18:41 PM
The ps3 lead in sales for that month, I hadn't checked the data in a while. What you're refering to is total worldwide sales till now. So even if the ps3 did pass the 360 and according to some sources it did that would not mean it leads in total all time wordwide sales. It would take the ps3 surpassing the adbox many months for it to have the all time record. |
