I think the other thing to think about with the success of WOW, is how many of those playing it never played a MMORPG before. Of all the people that I know still playing the game, almost all of them never ever played a MMORPG before. I have just a handful of people I know playing it that are essentially FPS type of players who've also played some SWG in the past.
That's it. I know a couple bus loads of people, hell probably subway car loads of people who are MMORPG vets who played it for sometime and don't anymore. Pretty much why I question their 6.5 million number and wonder if that's the number of units sold rather than the number of current subs that they have. Anyhow, suffice to say I don't think I know any MMORPG vet who is still playing WOW. Point being I think WOW got a lot of vets to try it, but has hooked a lot of MMORPG virgins into the genre. Just my opinion. |

You forgot the part about how the HCs. HCs are the High Command. These are players who volunteer to have command and control aspects of the game enabled for them. As such they are responsible for attacking and defending objectives. They determine what cities each side will defend, and which cities will be left undefended. They also determine which cities will be attacked, and which fronts will be ignored. They also control what equipment is made available each RDP cycle. Makes it a very team oriented game most of the time. |

You get rid of the HC and all of the features associated with them, and fix & work on the game mechanics (rudder fix, camauflage, foxholes, etc), and I know a slew of people who would come back, myself included. |

Although I haven't played this game in some 6 months now, one thing I would always tell new players is this. |

But didn't the "focus" group say something to the effect to SOE that they wanted quick combat and stuff? |

Wow, I feel like one of those talk show quests or something. You know, where the guest says, "That amazing that you ask that as just yesterday..." |

Hmm, WW2 Online still gets my vote for most unprepared, with SWG behind that in my book. |

Didn't Brad leave the Vanguard Dev team, and some others left with him. Could've sworn I read that somewhere. If that is the case, I'm expecting easy mode play styles to invade Vanguard quicker than you can blink. EDIT: NM, appears a lot of the lead designers have left, and Brad is still there. Not sure what that really means, could be good, could be bad. |

My second account that I canceled a long time ago still says CLOSED. For the record, my main acct is station access, so it's prolly unfortunately counting as a sub for SWG. |

Yeah, but the MxO game really did need a combat upgrade. In SWG's case, I don't think it ever really needed a drastic upgrade the first time around. |

I think one other thing that could be added to the success of WOW is that in a lot of terms, it's easy mode for MMORPGs. Not saying that there aren't hard aspects to the game. From my position, the only people that I know that are still playing WOW, are players that don't traditionally play MMORPGs. I played it for awhile, my brother did, as well as some other friends that I have that are vets of games like EQ, DAoC, AC, and others. None of us still play WOW. Friends of mine who never had interest in MMORPGS, who mainly played Starcraft, Warcraft, Black and White, GTA, and a myriad of other games are now hooked on WOW. |

yeah, but of the 6million people who bought the game, how many are still playing. Yeah, it's still a lot, a lot more than any MMORPG in the states at the moment, but I'd be surprised if they had more than 2-2.5 million subscribers worldwide. And yes that is still a boat load, but when people who don't know better read something like that and see 6 million, it's really misleading. |

Wow, you complain about people who call WOW a kiddie game, and you basically back up their point. BTW WOW = Easymode (aka kiddie game) |
