I gotta say that some of those features sound fuckin awesome.  I'm curious though.....how many of those features are currently being used in the alpha?

To be fair,  I'm not at all against you guys turning a profit and if the market is buying then its simple economics here.  Here's to hoping this money will go towards making it an even better experience.  I want the game to do well and I want the experience to be second to none.  Yes, my expectations are high.  I want every bang for my buck I can get.

I would check the game out again as I'm a huge pvp fan and AoC had me hooked for a long time.  Some great memories there.  But my old account apparently got stolen and funcom doesnt even have the decency to respond to me about it.  

Doubt I want to slog through another grind when Ive seen so much of the content and then deal with gearing up and grinding even more for AA points.  I would also have to buy the expansion again which just irks me.

 

I also dont understand people complaining about the game after tortage.  Just because the quest givers werent voiced you guys are all butthurt about your post tortage experience?  AoC has some of the most beautifully detailed zones I'd ever seen and the colors were much more vibrant than say ESO where something about the texture palette is kind of drab.  Also the pvp was second to none along with fatalities and the motion capture is the best of any mmo period.  This game also got me huge into REH's conan world and he was a great writer.  

 

So yes I have alot of nostalgia for this game and probably was the first mmo I truly felt like I was a part of.  That being said....in the same vein as the OP  Funcom fucking SUCKS as a company!!  I remember seeing the game director blame forum posters for their rudeness as to why they werent pushing out more content at the time.  Seriously it doesnt get any more low class then that.

No one forcing you to pay anything. 150 to play the game 6 months before release and get exclusive in game items is not that much. No different than buying Wildstar or TESO and subbing 6 months. If you can't afford it just say it, don't mock others for what they want to do with their money.

This is pathetic.   Looks like 150 is the going rate now that companies have realized they can get away with charging for incomplete games that languish in alpha/beta phases for who knows how long.

Same problem here and I have zero add ons.  I'm dealing with it because I still very much like the game but my guess is alot of people who arent as dedicated would never spend 15$ a month having to put up with an issue like this.

 

I got stuck in a dungeon instance earlier and had to zone to cyrodil to finally leave.  While I was there and  trying to zone out I had to exit out of the game 4 different times just to enter another zone.  This is a very game breaking bug and needs to be fixed asap.

I really like the graphics in eso too.  The weather effects could be better though and the water seems a bit off to me.  That being said I really love the sun rays and the overall art aesthetic.  For me it definitely feels like an elder scrolls game.

 

AoC had really great graphics when it came out and I loved the look of alot of the zones.  Now eso is winning out on that which is great.  I agree though about the run animation. Kind of annoying but overall doesn't ruin it for me.  

This is one of the first games where the pve aspect I find myself enjoying alot and I think alot of that is the good graphics and zone sizes.  Each new zone has like an epic overarcing story.  Awesome.

Thats pretty cool.  I wonder what kind of effects you get for killing with the 2h sword abilities?  I ask because I like to swing big swords around.
Did you even play AoC?  Because when you triggered a fatality you were immune to all damage and all cc's.
I think I remember reading somewhere that there would be kill moves/fatalities in ESO.  Am I wrong on this?

I've played many of the more popular MMOs that have come out over the last 10 years. The only game that has really jumped leaps and bounds over other MMOs, in terms of how combat looks and feels, is GW2. I played AoC fron launch until Craig morrison came along and fucked up the game.  From then on I played sporadically.  AOC was the most fun and engaging pvp experience in a MMO that ive ever had.  There truly was a skill gap that was evident in the really good pvpers that no amount of gear could ever overcome and that is how pvp should be done.

I remember getting in huge pvp battles in the beginner zones back when it launched and causing huge shit storms from people getting pissed and bringing in friends for back up and maxed out toons, totally unscripted and massively fun!  Then of course the crybabies cried over dying in a game that marketed itself as a "brutal" world even though there was little to no consequnces for dying.  SO in came nearly invincible guards and BOOM open world pvp dead.  It only got worse and worse from there if you were a pvp fan.  Such is the fate of the mmo i think.

 

ESO combat while having some nice looking effects, does not feel anything like AoC ESPECIALLY the melee combat which is where aoc really shined.  It is so godamn frustrating to run up to a character and swing your sword only to have them run right through you and there is zero connection with your hit.  Also on my assassin abilities I apparently have an invisible knife that I can materialize whenever I want to use certain skills.  Really reminds me of neverwinter combat which wasnt horrible but it IS a f2p game.  The only possible saving grace I can see for ESO retaining any form of player skill in pvp is the blocking and interupt abilities and I havent played enough to really see if they make  much of a difference.

 

Since Ive tasted a solid pvp system with collision detection  (in AOC) it is extremely hard to suspend disbelief when you can run right though your opponents as if you were lacking any form of matter.  I still think ESO could be fun but I havent experienced enough of all the combat and pvp to really gauge because it is such a huge downer for me when the melee combat just blows.  I'm afraid also that melee combat is always going to feel this way in ESO because they arent going to implement collision detection for pvp.  So unless they make some big changes on the impact of your blows or something...I might not even purchase this game and believe me I REALLY REALLY want this game to be aoc 2.0.

 

Are there killmoves in ESO?  I remember hearing somewhere that maybe they were but not entirely sure.  Another thing AOC had that I'd never seen before in a mmo.

You can't compare this game to action combat games like TERA because they have collision detection and ESO does not.

 

While I am a big fan of collision detection for the realism, I think that combat can still be quite engrossing and fun without it if things are implemented correctly.  From what I've been hearing and seeing in vids the combat does seem to be pretty fun.

 

Like bcbully said, wushu has a wonderful combat system if not one of the best around and that game has no collision detection.  If what he says is true then I will be in ESO for a LONG time.  Also MMO's that do tend to have collision detection have failed miserably in virtually every other aspect.  Age of Conan had one of the best collision detection combat systems ever but if you  played a siege then you would realize that the lag made it absolutely unbearable.  So I am totally fine without it if that equals a stable game for massive pvp in Cyrodil.

 

I do hope that they can add maybe some sound effects or something that makes your melee hits "feel"  more real.  I played the beta last weekend for like an hour and my first weapon was the bow.  I absolutely hated it.

Thx for sharing the vid op.  This might have sold me on a pre order.  The more I see of this game, the more I start to like it.  You can fire bolts of lightning off which actually look and sound pretty cool.  You can charge up to your enemy with your 2h and whack him.  Stealth seems to be pretty viable and you can do this all on one character.

 

The art style I find much more appealing than gw2 and the sieges look awesome.  Only thing I dont really like is those red circles.  I dont want to be reminded of gw2 at all because I loathed that games pvp and I play mmo's to pvp alot.  Now besides those red circles everything else looked great.  I'm very interested to see how classes and abilities will balance out when everyone is maxed. 

 

I plan to hit lvl 10 and level pretty much to max in cyrodil.  Looks like gonna be fun times.

So OP got griefed in a pvp game?  Apparently he didn't read the disclaimer before jumping on this ride.  

"Worst game eva!"  Dude relax, take your add meds and play something else then?

Perhaps if you did the eeny teeny slightest bit of searching you might find that there is in fact a great deal of no pvp servers.

While I tend to agree on the idea that it is bogus to pay for early release games which don't have an "official" release till years later, the money trail is showing that this is the way to go for devs and the people are shoveling out their cash hand over fist for these games on steam so early release games are only going to increase alot more.

 

Now aside from the hacking which is being dealt with, it is possible to have loads of fun with this game which is simply not gonna happen with the linear hand held games being pumped out like mickey D's french fries these days.  Join a low pop server I would say with about 20-30 active players max and you can build your base, make some friends and enemies and enjoy what this game has to offer.  

 

Perhaps when they make the map alot bigger it will be possible to have more people on the server without getting your base raided constantly.  Also finding the right spot and hiding your base correctly will save you alot of grief.  You really have to act like a ninja and use your brain to work around all the KOS base raiding bandits which I find immensely fun.

 

I have spent hours on some low pop servers and gave a helping hand to some noobs who end up becoming my allies and we work together to build our bases and keep them hidden and then when the time is right we go out on the prowl.  You really can create your own fun in this game which I think most gamers, especially the younger generation doesn't know how to do.  These survival type games are kind of a microcosm of human nature and often times it is survival of the fittest.  It is in your best interest to understand that and make your decisions accordingly.

 

Personally Ive had more fun in this game than any other mmo since age of conan(loved the pvp before craig morrison came along) and any game in the past several years because it gives the players tools which they can choose how to implement.  All for 20$ you really can't beat that.

And this game is way better than dayz at the moment where you cant even build a base or craft much of anything oh and also the combat loggers.  With Rust you have options...which are only going to increase.  There is alot of versatility here and already there are servers which have an economy and money system.  Some even hold pvp hunger game type tournaments!  If you are a pve carebear well there are servers and like minded people for you to play with!  

 

I played the game for many years and had alot of fun.  However funcom is one of the worst companies ive ever dealt with.  After myself having an account hacked they did the same thing and refused to even acknowledge the issue. 

 

Their customer service is absolutely horrendous and even if they made the best MMO in the world I would never spend another penny on a game with funcom attached to the name.

 

I would gladly kick any of their lazy european asses if they were in the states.

Throwing my vote in for AoC as well.  One of the best combat systems I've ever had the pleasure of playing.  Collision detection +combos+fatalities.  No other MMO can even come close.  If only funcom had decided on a pvp focus instead of the pve crap Craig morrison made the game into.

While not without its faults the game simply was extremely fun to pvp in and around the first year (until patch 1.03 i think) the game was largely skill based.  This was apparent by several players who could just demolish anyone without good gear and what not.  Now if you were a caster class you didn't get to experience the true beauty of the combat system which largely was for melee.  Even the fatalities were much more varied for the melee weapons.

No other mmo ive played has come close to the time I could literally get lost in playng AoC combat.  When the game first came out there were no npc OP guards at each entrance/exit.  You could choose to be a jerk and go gank lowbies if you wanted.  This would cause them to call in their higher lvl friends or get their mains on and huge battles would erupt spontaneously.  This was a great way to get involved in world pvp that was so organic you literally could spend hours and hours just in these sort of battles because a friend got ganked by some jerks or what not.

 

When Craig come on the scene all that changed and the pve carebears were held by the hand everywhere so as not to hurt their precious feelings.  Despite the fact that it was supposed to be the "brutal" world of hyboria.

 

Now that game only has the most dedicated fans playing it and the grind happy pve carebears.  What a joke.  I tried to get into TSW and seems like a great game pve wise but the combat is totally bland.  I'm still not sure why they went to such effort in AoC to get motion capture animations and fatalities only to make it a pve game.  Obviously this was scrapped for TSW.  And overall I do not have a high opinion of funcom based on their handling of the game in AoC and their customer service.  Now for those who have followed the game, the original directior Gaute Godiger...something like that had a total pvp focus and his vision for the game seemed to go along more with the actual world of hyboria as created by REH but craig morrison just wanted to make another wow clone with conan skin.

 

(yawn) we all see the success in that you morons.  FUCKING innovate for once and at least have the balls to follow the original concept of the game you fairies.
