(prediction) will Guild Wars 2 change the way post GW2 MMO are deigned, as Everquest and WoW did when they came out?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 1/29/12 1:18:22 AM
Originally posted by ActionMMORPG This ^ Guild Wars 2 is the first AAA mmorpg thats thinking outside the box, they have the resorses to polish an innovating idea or even remove it and start over if they feel it isn't working. We've had many innovating mmo's in the past like MORTAL Online and Fallen Earth but they've all been unsuccessfull due to the fact they didn't have the resorses to polish their new ideas. Guild Wars 2 will show if the mass MMO community are susceptible to a whole new concept in the fantasy envoriment or if they need that WoW similarity the be able to be emerged into a new mmo. If GW2 "fails" we will know that the next 10-20 years will be filled with "WoW clones" or not. So yeah, i think Guild Wars 2 will have a huge inpact in the way and mmorpg are design. It will at least determine if i will lose all hope on the MMO-genre or not.

Guild Wars 2 in Gametrailers Most Anticipated Games 2012
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 1/28/12 7:04:06 AM
I voted for Bioshock infinite on that poll, i just couldn't make myself vote for GW2 even thought it's the most hyped i've been for an mmorpg. Maybe because the last mmorpg i was super hyped for was Warhammer and we know how that went.... |

Unrealistic Server Queue Times
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/19/11 5:38:43 AM
I'll just say this, i had 5 h free time yesterday, i had SWTOR open 4 h yesterday. I could play SWTOR 2 h yesterday, the rest of the time i was standing in a queue.... If i need to wait about 1 h to play this game after lauch i will find another game. Many players has a life and a job and can only play about 2-4h a day, if you have to spend 1 h in queues i think those players will find something els. This happend the other day with me: "Hey Zalkin want to do this Flashpoint with us?" "Sure just let me logg in" *Possition in que: 654* "Yeah guys, could you wait 50 min for me?" "No" "Ok..." |

Lore-wise i think all the races except Sylvari would make a great Mesemer. The Sylvari don't understand how the mind of the other races work and therefore don't know how to trick or confuse them. If you want a race to fit the Mesmer lore-wise, the Sylvare is not the best choice. |

Hype alert...Story is actually good for the genre.
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 12/07/11 8:28:30 AM
I was really hyped for the new story elements in SWTOR. But when i played the beta the problems became obvious to me. Let me give you an example. I was in the starting area around Lv 5-7 and got an invite to a "group quest" so i was like "Right on, just let me get some quests and i'll be righ there!" 10 min later they kicked me from the group, but hey at least i got my 3 quest. The thing i want to say is: I dont want a game to innovate how i accept a quest i want them to innovate how i finish them and GW2 seems to do this. |
|
|
The thing about Guild Wars 2 that makes me want to play it sis that is innovating enough to not feel as another "wow like game with new features". Like Warhammer Online and (i'm sorry) SWTOR. |

If it's true what Diovidius sayd to you think it is fare for the players? To have a game based on the Elder Dragons awakening to reak havoc on the planet but just have one Elder Dragon you can "fight"? I may be that they might do it in a Dynamic Event type of way. Have you encounter him in a dungeon when X amount of player has encountered him he will appear as a dynamic event for all players to fight. What are your thoughts? |

The biggest question i have about GW2 at the moment (exept how the Mesmer will play) is how the F**K will the fights with the Elder Dragons play out. It's hard to graps how big they are and even harder to grasp how you bring one down. Do you think the story of Guild Wars 2 will be to reunite the Edge of Destiny and with there help bring down Kralkatorrik because we know the heroes are has a part to play. But if this is true how do you think the battle will go? Will the Elder Dragons even be in the game or released as expantions one after the other? What are your thoughs? |

Now I respect what you have said in the span of this thread Happyguy83, most of it made sense. Think think I’m having a problem with here is the way you see MMO games. MMO is not a genre, like Jeff Strain said on Games Convention 2007.
".....you should accept that "MMO" is a technology, not a game design. It still feels like many MMOs are trying to build on the fundamental designs established by UO and EQ in the late '90s. In the heyday of Doom and Quake we all eventually realized that "3D" was a technology, distinct from the "FPS," which was a game design. It's time we accepted that for MMOs as well."
The FPS games like Halo and COD are build on a very simple mechanic, shoot people. Don't really think it's fare to say if it works for FPS it will work for MMOs. I could go and explain why, but I think you're smart enough to realize this.
The reason why I personally am interested in GW2 is because I’m tired of the same old mmo's. I want something new that's GOOD. And you're right to be concerned, so am i. And i'm with you that it is wrong to smack talk all the other mmo's out there, because they're not GW2. I didn't enjoy Rift and that wasn't because i thought it was a bad game it was because it wasn't new enough. I didn't get that exiting feeling i used to get when i first logged it to a new mmo. And I believe I will get that the first time I log into GW2.

Welcome to the club Jimmy! I wantet to try and answer the question you asking in you post about not being able to enjoy other MMO because they lack the polish WoW had. Now i started playing MMOs when i was 14 (i'm 21 now) and i can say it took me a long time before i could enjoy any other mmo the same way i did my first one (which was ffxi, not a really good game). It's just something magical with the first MMO you play. And another thing you, started playing before BC launched thats a lot of time Blizzard had to polish the game before you started playing. No MMO has a 100% polished release. A game you mentioned Rift had 2 hours queues and farly many bugs, and got a lot of praised because it was suprisingly polished launch.
The reason i say this is because i think you might be missing out on a lot of great titles. A golden rule i follow when playing a new MMO is don't compare it negativly with MMO's you've played before. I think Guild Wars 2 will have a good launch altough i am sure it will not be perfect.

To the ones saying guild wars 2 is a PvP based game...
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 4/26/11 8:59:20 AM
I think it's because GW2s world pvp is based on Daoc. That's the only reason. If your games pvp is based on Daoc it's a pvp game. |

Alright, i though the Norns transformation was kinda like the shamans in WOW, where you are max lv with you epic gear but never able to play the game with it, or like the arm mutation the marauder had in Warhammer. If it's just a short buff then it might work for me. Do you know it the apperance of the transformation will change att all in the game or will it look the same at Lv.1 vs Lv.80? And is the skills is an Epic skill right? |

Hi i'm a Guild Wars player that has been struck (as many other) with the Guild Wars 2 hype high. Right now i'm looking into playing the awesome race Norn. But there thing that keep me from being 100% if this is the race i'm going to play is the transformation. Now the though about being able to transform to one of the four animals is cool. The screenshot of the Norn bear give me a small nerd boner. But what really worries me is if your amor will be shown aswell. I don't about you people but i would hate to be lv80 with some epic looking gear and transform into a... naked bear with a hammer... Have anyone read some information if the armor will be visible once you transform. I know there are some concept art with a white bear wear Gardian armor. Anyone? |

SWTOR a little too much solo?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/26/09 10:11:26 AM
Hi, let me start by saying that a love what i've seen so far in swtor, i love the classes, graphics and that it has full vo. I have three friends of mine that are all going to play Sith and we're all going to play different classes. What i'm worried about is when we level up we won't be abel to play a lot to do together other than the flashpoints. That we all will be playing our different story with our own companions. What do you think, i'm totaly wrong here? Sorry if this has been posted before. |

I disagree. FFXI would not be the great game that it is without forced grouping. There's hundreds of MMO's that you can solo in... feel free to play one of those. No need to destroy one of the great things about FFXI just to cater to the people who don't like grouping. Hopefully SE will realize this with FFXIV. You can't make an MMORPG that's satisfies both crowds. Sure you can have solo content and group content in the same game, but that's not the same as saying you've pleased both types of people. It's not about being able to solo vs. being able to group, it's about being able to solo vs. HAVING to group. Don't confuse the two. There's a world of difference between games that have solo & group content and those that have forced grouping... the community being a very notable one. Well i don't really think this is the way SE thinks. They want to make an apealing game for all players, because thats where the money is. SE has already told us that they are looking at games like wow, war and aoc. All does games has both solo and group content, and i think that what SE it trying to achieve. The thing a loved with FFXI was the grouping, the thing i hated was to have to wait for 1 h just to find one. If you have the quality of FFXI grouping system and throws in solo content that would be awesome. |

I want SE to reward people who play in partys but not force them which FFXI is doing today. And if you have good solo play and good party play the only think you need to do to make people play in partys is make it faster. If a person wants to level to max level fast party should be the way, but not in anyway forced. I would also like to see two kinds of quests the casual and the epic where as you can solo casual quests but need a party for the epic ones. |
