Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning: Against All Odds - The Test
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/05/10 3:45:45 PM
Amusing that Mythic is inviting people after all their hard work driving as many as they could away from their games. |

I realized why I hate most current games.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/05/10 2:35:06 AM
You sound like a Shadowbane player. In game politics are great. I loved getting hate tells after ganking someone. Then they bring their friends and camp my spawn, AWESOME. It's so much better when you can interact, when you make friends who drop what they're doing to get you uncamped, when you get people ticked enough TO camp, ahh the gold old days. Sadly, the trend lately is towards being so politically correct and protecting the feelings of every player, that nobody gets really emotionally involved...just addicted, which isn't nearly as fulfilling or fun. |

Never built a computer before, pretty bad with this stuff.
Hardware « General Discussion 8/05/10 2:29:38 AM
These days I wouldn't build a computer. Look through Dell, Gateway, etc, and find a stripped down bare bones model. Pick a good processor, cache, etc (dell has a 1.5 terrabite harddrive with a 1.56mb cache, might want to incorporate that). Onboard sound, onboard graphics, or at the very least the cheapest options available for that. Once you have the computer in your possession, build it up. Add your own aftermarket graphics card (usually cheaper than having them install it, and more options), a budget sound card will still perform great unless you're into professionally mixing or something, and you can add on more memory after the fact too. With RAM though, check first-if you can't get it cheaper aftermarket, just have them put it in when you buy it. You'll get a measure of support from them, someone to call if there's an issue or what not, and still be able to save money and build it to your specifications. Last time I checked, it would have saved me about 40 bucks to build the system from scratch myself. I just bought a stripped down and built it up. I plan to do so again next time. Saves a bunch of hassle, still works great. Good luck, whatever you choose. |

I just don't understand why people who liked GW are interested in this game. You'll have 4 slots on your skillbar. Four. That's all. Out of the 10 slot bar, 5 are pre-assigned by your weapon, one is preset as your heal. Where is the joy in customization? Where are those great pvp days, working out just the right build? Cookie cutter taken to a whole new leve. GvG is promising to be...bad. No dedicated healer class? DPS (or spike) your target down, then next. No way can they outheal themselves when under focus fire. I was so enthused, yet the moreinformation they release, the less I see any reason why ANYBODY would play it. |

Originally posted by jezvin OMG, I would never attempt a raid against a 4 hour boss. Seriously, you'd want that? It would get the name of "the boss that never dies" if it had any difficulty to it whatsoever, other than the time it took to kill. Tank has to go to the bathroom, group wipes. Healer sneezes, group wipes. Someone at the door, group wipes. etc etc. a 4 hour long fight that is difficult the whole way through is asking to never kill the boss. SOMEONE is going to screw up, unless you're playing with all bots. |

if you can revive any game .. what would it be and why?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/01/10 6:54:34 PM
Shadowbane. With some updates, of course (graphics, UI, etc). The potential of the game was severely hindered by the mediocrity of the programming and a bad, crashing release. By the time there was stability, the population was in it's death spiral. Real, in game consequences for the pvp. An in-game political structure like no other MMO before or since. When having mouthy guild members can destroy your log-in point and vendors...your home if you will...you either get good, or pay the consequences. No other game has forced people to back up what they say like Shadowbane did. Unfortunately, it has a bad rap from the name, but a remake of it could be *the* pvp game, bar none. If anyone cared to make it happen. Edit: Lots of mentions for Shadowbane in this thread. Nice to see. |

Will you ever buy another Cryptic game?
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 8/01/10 5:34:33 PM
Cryptic? Sure, no reason not to. Decent studio, though they really need to expand their programming a bit. They have some talented people though. Jack Emmert game? Not under any circumstances. Not if it was free, not if they paid me to play it. |

Guild Wars 2: Character Progression Information
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/30/10 9:24:29 AM
I swear that they're doing their utmost to insure that I won't play GW2, after absolutely loving the original. Static or not, leveling is leveling, and an annoyance. Shame, really. Ah well, just one more thing to add to the pile of "forget this game" I've got going. I was so hoping for some actual GOOD news this time around, like perhaps retracting some of the things that have previously been announced. |

I'm looking for an mmo with least grinding as possible
LFGame « General Discussion 7/11/10 9:35:35 PM
Guild Wars. You can reach max level in 1 day, seriously, starting out as a noob with no in-game friends. I believe there are some packs you can buy to get extra skills, rather than having to earn them the normal way, which will help bring you up to speed faster too. It's been out for a while, but it's still fun, and still has people. Enjoy. Oh, and there's no monthly fee, yay. |

Can you suggest game which has a fun ranger class?
LFGame « General Discussion 7/11/10 9:33:26 PM
Shadowbane had pretty good rangers. C'mon Emulator! |

Blizzard should have expected this sort of thing when they forced the battle.net accounts on everyone. Lord knows, they certainly heard enough people predicting it. I had a similar experience as the OP, minus the $45 charge. I wasn't playing for a while, then got a notice that my account was permabanned. Looks like I won't be going back. Funny how, after playing for years with the original style login info my account was never in jeopardy...yet now my account info gets stolen? Please. Blizz doesn't take customer privacy seriously, or they wouldn't have forced battle.net or tried to force that new BS they're working on down people's throats. That company can suck eggs, I won't be playing any game with the Blizzard trademark again. |

General: Killing Fun by the Numbers
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/17/10 3:07:11 AM
The fun for me is in open world factionless pvp. Yes, I'm talking about Shadowbane, and I miss it and seriously wish it was re-released with a better engine. It has everything I enjoy: Fast leveling (one day of powerleveling puts you at the cap) Gear that's close to perfect easily, with perfect pieces not requiring hideous investment of personal time, though not readily available to all. Challanging pvp The possibility of making a gimpy character. This seems difficult these days in many games, and remedied with a simple gear-swap. I enjoy crafting my character, not being 100% the same except gear as the next guy over, and learning the ins and outs of building a good character that people want to emulate. There's more, but I'm not going to take all night writing it out. The point being, the fun at end game is certainly possible, without being a challange of "stand here, spam your dps rotation, move there at cue X, etc". That's crap, and unfortunately it's the modern MMO plan. There's no fun in doing precisely the same thing over and over, dammit, so quit making players do exactly the same thing a billion times hoping for the ultra-rare gear drop. I want my character geared and ready for the fun, it's not fun to waste time over and over seeing nothing I need drop/ |

What would be a gamebreaker for me is if they forced skills onto my bar, rather than leaving the entire bar blank and open to whatever I choose to put on there. Not having healing class (like Monks in the first game) would also do it. Oh wait... |

Your favorite character you ever rolled?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/30/10 10:03:01 AM
Disdain-Aracoix Scout, Shadowbane. RIP Shadowbane. Best pvp gaming concept, one of the most flawed engines ever to go live. |

Just a short post, not going to sit here all day and explain my reasoning, just gonna give a couple examples. I am a huge fan of GW, but I won't be buying GW2. One of the things I enjoyed the most about GW was that the entire skill bar was my choice, no forced skills at all. Now forced heal and half the skillbar is per weapon? No thanks. Also, by not having a dedicated healing class (and from what I've been reading about gw2, they're against a healer and want players to selfheal) I'm further turned off by this game. I won't be buying it. I hope the devs see plenty of comments like this and change their mind, but at this stage of the game I'm fairly certain that they're committed to the path they're on. GW is an amazing game. GW2 had potential, but it's getting too far from many of the great things of the original. Good luck with your game, I won't be buying it at the rate things are going. |

No. But I'd play Shadowbane 2 in a heartbeat, on preorder. |

Why do people not understand innovation....
General Gaming « General Discussion 10/17/09 3:16:45 AM
I'm just tired of seeing yet another reskinned wow-knockoff. Dammit, *somebody* do something different. There used to be variety within the genre. |

Shadowbane captured many aspects of MMO that remain unequaled today. However, on the down side, losing a city was very hard on some people, and they quit playing when their beloved city was turned into a trash heap with somebody else's flag on top of it. It could be difficult to rebuild and reestablish yourself. Still...my favorite thing was that the devs didn't kneejerk destroy unexpected builds, as it seems many devs do today. Ye Olde Dagger Dwarf is a great example...I'm pretty confident that devs didn't expect to see dwarves dual wielding daggers being a potent threat, but...they were, and though they received some toning-down, they weren't outright destroyed the moment they gained a shred of popularity. I'd pay to play that exact game built onto one of the newer Quake engines (or any other halfway decent engine, for that matter). If it should happen, you're all welcome in my vamplock's PL group, we'll be running all night. |

What property would you most like to see made into an MMO?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/20/09 10:22:35 PM
Shadowrun. There's no other IP out there that's screaming "Make me into an MMO" any louder than that. A team could run perfectly in realtime with Hacker (archetype) support, rigger holding down the area and ready to roll with the getaway car, or deal with anybody who shows up to prevent the getaway. I just don't see anything else out there that even comes close, it's almost as though it was envisioned as an MMO before MMOs existed. Can't figure out why there was an attempt to make it into an FPS...it doesn't lend itself to that well at all, and only serves to give the IP a crappy reputation. Edit: After reviewing the thread, it seems that Shadowrun is getting the most nods for being made into an MMO. Not surprising...hope it happens. |

Will you naysayers PLEASE STOP.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/13/09 5:30:54 PM
Well, since this seems to be the official game-bashing thread, I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. Not that it makes one whit of difference, but I like to pretend the devs read these things. I've been watching this game for some time now, with a fair amount of anticipation initially-it's being produced by Bioware, the current employer of he who was known as Ashen Temper. As time goes on though, and more information comes out, I'm beginning to lose interest. It's seeming a whole lot like a single player game with some multiplayer aspects, and not that much of an MMO environment. Also, there appears thus far to be a serious lack of opportunity to Play to Crush. I'd really hoped for much more of the focus to be on meaningful pvp. If I wanted a single player, with a little multiplayer on the side and limited pvp, I'd go play Sacred 2 or something. Play to Crush, Bioware, c'mon. Edit: Oh yeah, and I don't give two shits about the "story". If I wanted to read a book, I'd...you guessed it, read a book. I could even get one of those nifty choose your own adventure books if I wanted an interactive story experience. |
