But above all else, don't go too crazy for a KOTOR MMO or.. well, even any SW MMO for that matter. It won't be Pre-CU, nor will it be whatever you want it to be. Just like the other MMOs out there, it is a game world that will allow you to rent space in it for a monthly fee, when it goes live.

I've always been of the belief, having seen the beta boards and public boards pre-release, that the fans helped murder the game with expectations that were completely above human limitations. The organic jedi system, the class balance and pvp issues, how the game should be, etc etc were all debated and drove into the ground well before the game came out. Granted, the paying public should get the most bang for their buck, but the community didn't really help the situation with SWG. All the pre-release complaints and theories only made the situation worse for all involved, and helped inspire a development cycle that continued in a downward spiral until it all culminated in the release of the piss-poor NGE

The "development cycle" and the "community" had NOTHING to do with the NGE...They want to say it was brilliant, that it was necessary. The guys who developed that system are failures, redirected, demoted, and fired. They keep defending their decision, where is that post? They failed. The community had nothing to do with this, they found us to be recyclable....

This is certainly not a defense of the development of the game, and is not intended to say the developers and visionaries at SOE/LA were at all competent. They failed at large and helped destroy an otherwise fantastic game with immense potential.

Sorry, you blamed it on us, now you want to give them a pass for being idiots? We *never* asked for the NGE!! No one on the official forums ever said "Make better items loot," "Nerf the other 24,"I want to be better than BOBA!" No One ever asked, pleaded, predicted, or thought the NGE would improve things. MINUS THE DEVELOPERS! Who are hopefully unemployed, or delivering envelopes.

All I'm saying is Star Wars fans have pretty high expectations from these games, whom are being designed and drafted by people that are just as human as you or I. We may not want another SWG replayed, from release through NGE, but let's all do our part to ensure we don't create a setting where such a measure is "required" or otherwise instituted.

We did not create the game, but dammit, it was a good game. No one ever asked for the NGE, we asked for balance, and more-over, did not complain about the issues "THEY" addressed. Stop telling people this was the situation, look at any of the former dev comments on the subject!!! FFS...the NGE did not happen because of the community. It happened because WoW succeeded, and the felt the need to erect their e-peen.

The latest video, posted right here on MMORPG.COM promises the next great story in the DC universe is yours to grab, create, imagine. You can live in the shadow of giants, and matter.

So, chime in...when was the last time you heard this type of statement? Who did you hear it from? Do you trust them to follow through.

D.C., you could have done better, but then again, Smallville and what you would like to call the "Dark Knight" is the only clue you have had in 20 years.

BTW, The "Dark Knight" should have been a BB.

If you did the Legacy quests full on, and enjoyed them, my guess is you were not a CU, or even pre-CU player.

I miss Galaxies. I am sure the PVE is stil fine, even though they blow up PVP every two months, and I mean, EVERY two months.

Why should you go back? No reason. Unless you want screens of your dead guild city, or screens of the amazing sites the game launched with, there really is no reason.

Go outside developers. Hopefully I won't have to pay for those screens. it was a beautiful galaxy once, wasn't it?

Or Darkfall... they look almost exactly the same anyway. Not wanting to derail this thread... but out of the two, Darkfall actually looks more real than Mortal.

Mortal came out of nowhere, has an extremely immature dev team, only one movie on their site, all pre rendered with a handful a screenshots, claiming all the features of Darkfall with THAT graphics engine, and its set to release... next year? Next spring/summer even? Give me a break.

At least Darkfall has a publisher and its history can be tracked, even if the quality of the game is in question.

 

We're about to hit an all time low in MMOs, it will take something big to bring it out. Or at least, it'll take the death of big name companies trying to pump out MMOs. Once MMOs fall off the radar again, some great company can come along and revive it, hopefully with new ideas, and not more EQ/WoW clones.

My money would be on Mortal before Dark and Li...I mean Darkfall, and for all the reasons you stated. I would play either game 2 months after launch if they live up though.
