Lord - the 'I know better than anyone' complainers strike again with the same ole refrain. Reusable talking points cause nothing makes you happy. Ad Nauseum! Geeeze - give it a rest!

I do not expect to get too involved with the more tricky and intricate aspects of this game but intend to buy and play it because of the possibility of some new things to try in an MMO. So far I think it will be worth the investment. At least until the 'elites' have overwhelmed it (elites meaning PvP addicts, powerthru to end bois for example). Expect the 'balance' monitors to cause nerfs and reduce resources to the regular parts of the game, but still, I intend to give it a go. Who knows? Will still try it at least.

The multiple 'builds - souls' system that I tried in the Rift Beta was simply an immersion breaker for me. Always felt that I was missing something or failing to 'do-it-right'. Never really felt immersion with the character. The deck systems sounds good enough as long as we can develope our character with non-deck skills - experiment as mentioned above. I do appreciate the 7/7 system as reducing the complexity of high level play is better for my own playstyle - I can concentrate more on the situation than remembering what the heck this icon does on a line of icons.

I really appreciate the idea that we can customize the look of our characters. This is one of the most important immersion factors in any MMO. I am playing, and loving, SWTOR. But the simple fact is that I cannot get my character to look how I want, either in build or clothing/armor etc.. I hope they improve the CC soon. TSW looks to grab me immediately in the outfitting side. (please!!!!). I hope decks do not become a locked in 'take this and nothing else' system. I do not get the impression that such is the case. One can only hope.

Ummm...the problem is that the subject calls for an extensive analysis of guilds in a game format. There are numerous problems both for a company (cost/time) and for individuals in a guild (RL time zones/availability/level etc..).

I am a former game designer for TSR and Pacesetter Games (PnP), now retired and enjoying my free time with oline MMO gaming as my hobby. I have extensive ideas about guild systems in a game along with RL understanding of corporate abilities - and limits. NO - I am not applying for a job. And NO - I do not belong to a guild in SWTOR, yet. I fully enjoy the solo w/companion system.

But I also understand the vital necessity of both PvP and guilds in a game. I can't apply to represent a guild at the summit - couldn't afford the trip anyway. But I can give a little input as an example of ideas - which the OP article asked us to submit.

Have guild ships be able to 'flag' for PVP. There should be a minimum percentage of active guild members on board (10% for example) before allowing the guild to flag. Once flagged for PvP then a window showing any other guild ships who are flagged would be available. This would allow the guild time to organize their activities based on RL - round up fractions for nitpickers. The window list would also include the number of active players on the guild ships. Guilds could arrange assaults between them as well.

Combat would be a boarding action. Since the computer architecture seems based around '5' this would be a factor in a boarding action. Each guild would post a 'victory bond' from guild funds which would go to winner. Mutually agreed on victory conditions would come from a list provided by Bioware. It would also be interesting to allow counterboarding as a basic option.

There also exists the possibility of a PVE ship to ship combat, not for mutual destruction but to provide 'events' that would occur on the ships being boarded. Hull punctures that smash corridors, falling structures, blocked doors forcing alternate routes, explosions, power failures etc...affecting all combatants.

There are far more details to be considered for this idea but you get the point. Guild players should have more in the future for the health of the game. Period. Really sorry for the wall-of-text.

Forums and posts - thousands of them so I thought I would toss my op in the mix.

Bioware - I am a 66 year old retired game designer (PnP). I looked forward to the new SWTOR, played a couple Betas, bought the DDE and am now playing. I want to congratulate you on a job well done. Are there some problems and bugs? Sure - just like EVERY OTHER MMO EVER LAUNCHED! I still like and have fun because the positive aspects of the game outweigh the negatives - by far - for me. Others who have different opinions state them, often, repeatedly, loudly and range from plain disappointment (normal) to outraged quitting obscenity. Puzzled as to why anyone would go thru so much time and effort, again repeatedly, to bash a simple video game, but have decided that it is simply some form of human nature.

Just as 'NEWS' organizations give priority to horrifying and 'bad' news, so do review organizations do the same. What works for the reputable news works for the new guys on the block as well. I decided to post instead of playing right now cause I have to go walk the dogs first. Then I will resume my game being a very lucky retired person who can play as much as I like.

And I like playing SWTOR. I have 3 characters, Jedi Knight, Smuggler and a new Trooper. Have some Empire characters I am looking forward to playing. I know the bug fixes and updates are coming, not really worried. So once again, well done Bioware and I am enjoying the game.

i dont think u can do anything about faction inbalance, They tried to stay ahead of this a bit with guild placement and that didnt work to well.

if  2/3 of the players wanna play empire u cant force them to play republic so there isnt really anything they can do to fix this.

unless they add a third faction which since they almost did it for launch they may do so in future,

The legacy thing they have stated that u will be able to pick the relationship every character has to another in your legacy.

how far this goes i dont know but if say u can pick to have zabrak as part of the legacy family and a human but they are part of the same legacy as best freinds or something i dont know how that will work as i dont work at bioware, I just know that they have stated they dont have to actualy be blood relatives.

Adoption - fixed!

Lots of opinions of course. Here is mine. Funcom has provided enough info to get me decided about whether to buy or not.  I will purchase and play TSW. Do not know what else to say about the subject. I know I will not partake of Forum PVP, it is just annoying. Unsure about Beta tho, if invited I will try it but if not I will still buy and play it. Enough said!

When I look at all the trollings and hatings and whinings and quitings and unsubbings etc...I get a mental picture of a group of nerdie pimply faced kiddies gathered around eagerly talking about sex - something they actually know nothing about.

Armchair designers can join the armchair quarterbacks and armchair generals and armchair presidents and armchair Nascar drivers and armchair basketball experts and on and on and on...

Jeeze, take a chill pill. Don't like it - don't play. Don't like the industry/company/game/mechanics etc...good enough. State why and even say you are leaving but trying desperately with post after post to keep others from buying/playing (for their own good of course) - it ain't exactly like warning of an incoming tornado - lighten up. I am just taking a break from playing, thought I would cruise thru this site I like (MMORPG) and find this!

So quit and unsub/don't sub, thats ok. But this looks like Forum PVP, not substantive discussions. Gimme a break!!!

The pros and cons of permadeath or serious death penalties have been done to 'death' in the above posts. No need to be redundant.

If the 'death penalty' is permanent or even very serious then I do not bother with the game. Period. It is a matter of personal choice. Permadeath is already in games, all of them. Just delete your character, thats permadeath. Drop/delete all your stuff - thats serious penalty. Drop a major percentage of your 'cash' - thats serious penalty. Whats the problem? Self Discipline! Overweening desire to make everybody else play like you want.

Companies can make any type of game they want. Play it or not - personal choice.

Moderately interesting read since I am interested in playing the game. However, one of the things slightly bothering me is the seemingly total focus on the horror element. The three faction concept is being used to give diversity in avatar design since all skills are available, and for PVP centric players. Mainly are the bosses, all which seem horror only or gigantic amorphos tentacled creatures from HP Lovecraft. I did see a gigantic robot at one screenshot so maybe they are going a little ways from the spikey amoeboids. Still, it would be great to have adventures against Nazi refugees operating from their 'redoubt' in Antarctica, or secret operations in Area 51 or a great number of 'all things are true' situations, not necessarily pure horror or Lovecraft. Variety is the spice of life.

As for the Cash Shop, well. it is difficult for any company not to take advantage of any idea or process that produces profit. How it will be implemented in TSW is unsure for now. And yes, things can and do change over time. Still, if the CS is for clothing and accessories that don't affect gameplay then I am fine with that for now. The idea that I can make my avatar 'look' exactly like I want is a powerful inducement to get this game. I can only assume there will be some sort of appearance tab in game. Be nice if the CS are in actual 'department stores' in the game itself. Need a changing room of course.

As for now, I am playing and subbed to SWTOR and having fun. I intend to try out GW2 and, unless something unpleasant shows up, I will get TSW with high hopes. Good luck to both Funcom and me....lets have fun!

Lets see! The comments about 'not enough content' and 'too much content' have already been posted to death already. So....

I will simply address the OP's original point.

Restaurant: "Sorry girly, no tip for you! You didn't smile right when you served my table!"

Only thing I differ with in the OPs article is that I was looking forward to this game. I am having a good time - which is what I paid for.

What I have noticed on my occasional foray into the forums are the repeated attacks from a group of posters who seem to go from forum to forum, bashing - well - everything and everybody. A group of bitter and unhappy followers of the MMO industry. Games, Devs, companies and other players, all come under grim attack as naive, stupid, cattle, incompetant, ignorant - geeze - pick the negative and they will spew it out. From obscene to quasi-erudite to armchair perfection, they systematically dismantle and attack OTHER PLAYERS FUN.

Thanks for your perspective OP, it was a nice change of pace. We both are enjoying SWTOR as a new and fun MMO. For those who are unhappy (shrug) not much anyone can do to help you. You surely have a right to your opinion and to post that opinion. If you do not see a lot more positive posts then you might consider that we are playing the game and not bothering with forums. Why am I here you might ask? I am just about to open up my comp and install my new video card.

Thought I would add something besides repeating recycled whines and complaints. Bioware is a savvy company that is fully aware of the wide variety of playstyles and players. They know, for example, that powerlevelers are out there and will do their thing. The rush to endgame players will buy and take off running. Bioware simply bet on a great number of them to BUY the game. The company fully realizes they will not stay and will post away untill the next game. Rinse and repeat but meanwhile Bioware got their  money and maybe a few months sub as well. Good enough.

Bioware is counting on more players like myself. I played two preorder betas, early access and now sub for a week. I have one main and he just reached lvl 15 during my first run of Esseles Flashpoint. The only thing that actually reaches the level of a problem is my eagerness to try out the other characters as well, but I intend to stick with my main for now. Bioware knows there are a LOT of players out here just like me. We know that any MMO has things that various players do not like - I found character creation lacking, no appearance tab a bit disappointing, an arcade space game is certainly not my cup of tea and I am still trying to figure out crafting. I am not a "fanboi', nor unmindful of what I believe can be changed or improved.

I do like the game, I am having fun playing and will wait and see what is to come. To the OP and others who have already powered to the end - well, thanks for your money and hope the next game (EA's TSW maybe?) will be better for you. In the meantime myself (you know - the lowest common denominator) and a few million others will sub and have fun. Will it last? Have to wait and see, won't we? I hope it does.

Well OP - Whether a design is 'Good' or 'Great' is entirely subjective. Look it up and you will see that it means that what we percieve and think produces our output, not at all a certain fact. We ordinary folks call it an opinion. You have stated your subjective opinion and now I will state mine. You are wrong. I bought, subbed and play SWTOR. I am having a 'great' time and it is fun, to me. Sorry you do not feel the same but that is life.

Simply go find one more to your liking, as the rest of us do. I am also looking forward to GW2 and TSW. Hope one of those can meet your personal specifications of 'Great'. Good luck and have a nicer day.

I do not know about you guys but I think the OPs name sez it all - FONY!

In answer to the OP. I am playing, and paying, for SWTOR and having a blast. I am looking forward to GW2 and will pay for the game, as a replacement for WOW. Finally TSW is coming and I am intrigued enough that I will buy and play that as well. For me, the games are looking good. As for OP, LOL I do not really care what you think, believe, approve, disapprove or do. You made your indignant attack on a lot of us, well, it is still a free speech country. So when you stepped down off your pedastal then I got up and throw you a 'raspberry'. SWTOR is a fun game, GW2 and TSW are looking good. Sorry you are so unhappy but I get all the depressing news and doomsaying I want from the newspapers and TV. Better luck next time for whatever game you don't like. Have a nicer day!

Ah yes - Forum PVP. Spell this P-O-I-N-T-L-E-S-S.

I really like the game - to the point.

Forum PVP - how original and innovative. Google the names of the reviewers and see if anybody has any published cred if individual critiques are that important to you. I pre-ordered SWTOR, played a couple of betas, subbed and I am now playing and enjoying the game.  Doubt anyone cares if I like/dislike any or all of the game - except Bioware. So Bioware, I like your game. Well done!

Just saw on youtube that her vids are promoted... which make me question a bit her role in the advertising of this game, especially when she has insisted on being independant.

I am guessing dosen't promote her there? Would be interesting to know.

Seems like there is some extremely heavy money flying around to push this game, from freeze mobs to Blur TV spots.

Ummmm...lets see. An independant game reviewer, reviewing a game before, during and after release of the game on a site dedicated to games of all types. You have a point, someone is promoting her to review games (Mom perhaps?). Don't let that aluminum foil protector cap slip OP (Everyone knows tin does not work). Keep on uncovering those conspiracies and protecting the rest of us from EA. Or is it Bioware or maybe LucasArts?

I want to give you the credit you deserve. You seem fluent in, not just 3 languages, but four. You have skill in Coprophagic. The rest of us simply call it Oral Diarehea. Well done!
