This refund thing sounds retarded, no such thing would be needed if people would just do their homework. I knew this game would suck just by reading the feature list, a brief beta later on confirmed me of this. That said, I'm glad Zenimax loses money and sincerely hope TESO goes belly up ASAP. Teso is a shitty MMORPG and a downright insult for any true TES fan.
Any vanilla TES game is better than TESO, use mods and you get a game that makes TESO look lile one of those shitty Facebook games. Only thing TESO has over TES series is a chatbox, that you have to pay 15/month. And a crappy pvp system.
Nty, I'll wait for a game that's actually worth a shit.
Originally posted by Azoth Imagine the same world with thousands .. Today's standards should be way more than that. There is no way for you to hide a small town in a deep forest in a map like that. Like I said, unless the max population is low, it will be too small for a owpvp sandbox.

Darkfall map is about 1000 square km, over 2 times that of LiF.

I would like a bigger map as well, but the are certain problems that comes with it. One of the reasons for Darkfalls failure was the huge, dead mass of land and that you could wander around for hours looking for some action.

And there is always the expansion option, if needed.

IMHO, the devs should hold the players hand irl and gently stroke their hair at the same time. It is in no way the parents fault, if they let their mentally unstable kids play these games. It's not a business the devs are running afterall, it's a daycare.
Internet is serious business.
Very nice pics, gives some hint how truly massive the gameworld really is.

Try reading and actually comprehending what you are reading

Maybe you should tell him and help the learning process instead of making him look like someone who is an idiot.

He already did that all by himself.

Looks good, looks alot like Wurm Online mixed with combat more like Mortal Online which overall is a good thing and the direction I want to see the genre going in however they lost me at "full loot".

Don't get me wrong I like PK'ing and I like player looting but full loot is just too harsh and kind of an easy way out. It's like oh we are full loot so that means we are hardcore....no.

This is going to detour alot of potential players and it should be more refined to say a certain amount being able to be looted like 1-3 random bag/inventory items mixed with dropping a certain amount of belt or equipped items like 1-3 also with roughly a max item drop potential of 2-6 items across the board, 2 being the minimum chance and 6 the max, adds an air of excitement also as pkers will hope for 6 while people getting pked will hope for 2. Full player looting is just too much imho and imo is the same thing that has held Darkfall and Mortal Online back, pretty good games hampered by a half assed player looting system.

Losing "everything" is never fun. The player needs to have the ability to feel like they can get revenge and the pk'er needs the feeling that they better run and leave the area.

Look at the population of Darkfall and Mortal Online, they prove that full loot doesn't work, but there should be danger and player looting don't get me wrong, just done differently than full loot which just seems like a lazy easy way and I don't want that term hurting the sandbox genre as there are plenty of sandbox games out there that manage player looting better.

I don't want to see sandbox or player looting to get a bad name, but using full loot is a quick way to give them a bad name. Some thought needs to go into these systems to make them balanced and somewhat manageable, not where people rage and quit.

Stop talking about things you know nothing. Both games, MO and DF, have plethora of reasons for why they failed. Full loot is not one of them.

Looting/item degradation is a vital part of any MMO that hopes to have a functioning economy.

OP is either trying to win some 'fanboi of the year' award, or he's just new to this forum/genre.

TESO doesn't bring enough new shinies to the table to lure in millions of players. The game really isn't anything special.

You guys are missing Eldevin. I am talking to many former RS players in game and we all agree this game is an improved version of RS.  It is f2p and just launched.  The crafting is more in depth than RS and already I think the game world is bigger. This is a game that has been in development for about 8 years.

I played RS from about 2005-2007 and although I had a good time , I doubt I would return.   For me Eldevin is my new RS.

Eldevin pvp is just too carebear to be taken seriously, ruins the whole game. Its just too gay, like Elton John in a pink dress level gayness.

Level to 50 fast - apparently stats are locked in Cyrodil for 1-49 players, as soon as you hit 50 your stats will unlock to actual value that is much higher than 1-49 players.

Basically a lvl 50 in Cyrodil can mow down groups of non-50s with ease. so 4-5 level 50s could handle large groups of 1-49s

Seriously? That's beyond retarded.

That kind of idiocy together with no penalty for losing and, what is equally stupid, NO COLLISION fights will get old and uninteresting real fast.

I don't give two shits about Wildstar. I bash Zenimax for taking the easy route of making another generic themeparkcrapgame #7362552 and slashing TES skin on top of it. They had a golden opportunity to make a fantastic sandbox, but nooo, lets make another rvr MMO because Warhammer and GW2 somehow didn't deliver. Someone just make UO+Shadowbane hybrid and I'm set for life.

Ok? I honestly have no idea what your point is, but I'm damn sure you are missing a couple of elephants in the room. First of, internet has propably tripled since those days, this of course means millions of more potential customers. Second is the dev cost of SWG, which I would imagine was miniscule to SWTORs. Third is of course WoW, which sucked more than a couple of MMOs to near death, including SWG. Fourth is again WoW, it also made MMOs mainstream, again more potential customers for future games like SWTOR.

It is no surprise you are trying to ignore the point.

TOR is a money making success .. it does not matter if you try to make some excuse for it not to be .. but it is in the top 10 .. just the f2p part.

You may as well say GTA is not a success because not everyone who has ever seen a gangster movie buys the game.

I was quoting Fenrir, not you.

Your point is obvious: praise swtor while ignoring facts.

I never said swtor is not doing money these days. But a success, something that lives up to its potential, it certainly is not. Losing 70-75% of its subscribers in the first eight months, getting called a disaapointment by EA and forced to go f2p or end up dead. Some analysts say that swtor failure was the real reason behind EA CEO stepping down.

You really need to lay off the sauce for a while.

How is it any different from lotro?

Besides, EVE got rid of level/skill grind ten years ago. There's still money/faction grind, but both are optional.

Oh right, because a game with one of the biggest names in entertainment and a development & marketing budget of $150-500 million makes more money than some noname game with a shoestring budget in comparison, this somehow proves that it's a success? Give me a fucking break.

It sold 2 million boxes and has now lost 75% of its playerbase. Lol, success indeed.

SWG sold 1 million in 2 years and peaked at about 300k subscribers losing 70% of its player base as well. The game so many here cite as the greatest of MMOs suffers from the same issue as all of the recent ones player retention!

The bugs ridiculous grinds and other aspects pushed 700k players out the door yet that game is regarded here as a resounding success which it clearly was not hence all the revamps until finally it even lost it's Niche players.

If SWG was the game at launch that was described on it's Box at launch we probably wouldn't have SWTOR and would still be playing it however it was not and never lived up to it's full potential financially either!

Had the reviews been positive, not a single fanboi here would question the objectivity of the reviewers.

And, to be fair, wiseversa for us haters.

Yes ... if a game got a shoestring budget .. it is not a success in getting big investment in the first place.

In fact, i got the same number of subs (on top of lots of f2p money) in a much shorter time than Eve .. now that is a success. Who wants to spend 7-8 years to get to 500k subs .. when a better game can do it in a month.

And f2p makes even more money than that pantry 500k subs.

Was there a 'whoosh!' sound when what I wrote went just completely over your head?

Half of what you wrote makes no sense and the other half has nothing to do with the subject.

137 million and in the top 10 earning f2p games in the world last year....doesn't sound like you have any idea what you're talking about.

Just to add to that .. they still have 500k subs (as much as Eve) and that is another $90M ... so the game made $227M in 2013. In fact, it made back the total production cost in less than a year ... i would say it is a huge financial success.

It made profit sure, but it's a farcry from success story when you consider the fanbase SW has.

On the topic: you people need count in how much internet has grown since 2004, comparing sub numbers then and now is silly. Also, WoW made MMOs mainstream.

Financial success is financial success. You can always claim that it does not get everyone who has ever watched SW to play .. but so what .. it makes lots of money ... MORE than most MMOs .. and certainly all the sandboxes.

It's 100% themepark, no amount of 'bhutbhut it has these sandboxy elements' bullshit will change that.
