People DO want sandbox not cut scenes and stunning graphics
LFGame « General Discussion 11/21/12 2:25:50 PM
Everyone is right..why can't we have sandbox AND graphic? Well they are working on it. Because they realised there are a growing number of people asking for sandbox, so there is a good opportunity to make cash. Well NOT enough people then. Look at the upcoming games, started as "we are going to create the best sandbox ever" and then slowly glitching to hybrid. (Archeage, EQ:N, PFO,..). I stick with Greed Monger since it's the sandbox that should appear sooner than the other and not pointing in the direction of becoming an hybrid. And graphic is amazing imo. |

Rheanon you hit the spot! I wanted a game with non instanced housing, skills, where TRUE rares or UNIQUE items can be found, where economy is run by player and there is no cash shop or cold auction house. where social life in-game matters and people need each other to reach their goals in a sandbox full of possibilities. After all my Analysis, there was NOTHING (released in the last years) satisfying this. Upcoming games with similar features: Archage Why I picked Greed Monger? As I said, because I was impressed of the community and how devs and players are working together on a daily basis. And of course, noone can guarantee this game will be a success and at the end will be as I really want. But now there a lot of people people discussing on the GM forums and on the #GreedMonger IRC channel, everyone is seeking more or less the concept of this sandbox and proposing all the strategy and game mechanics, working together to find the best way to satisfy everyone. I don't have the time nor the skill to create my own MMORPG, so I follow what I think it's going to satisfy me at most. And I really trust in this project ;) |

+1 for you Kalisti, you definitely have a good and open-minded point of view. nariusseldon, you are also right about this. But tell me, are you SURE there IS on the market what some players are looking for? I spent WEEKS to check the new mmorpg, to ask in forums, to play trials and free games hunting the feeling Ultima Onlien gave me. Well, i'm not the only one saying there is NO valid alternatives. Therefore I don't see any other valid option other than helping the people who are aiming to create what is missing on the market nowdays. |

The big difference between other games and Greed Monger is that is not developped from a big company and as you said, the devs really cares about the wishes of the community. Of course this game is not for everyone. People who likes themes park mmorpg will give for sure a bad feedback or not enough attention to GM. This is for old UO Nostalgic and for everyone who wants to enjoy a Sandbox mmorpg. The community is extreme active and the devs are listening to all the request answering as soon as possible, they are obisously so busy with the programming. KS Campaign is having a big success and project is founded. And also we won't neeed to wait YEARS to play, a beta will be out probably in April, even if I suppose this is really a short term and 1-2 months more could be needed. Personally it's the first time I'm so much confided to put a big pledge on a KS Project because this community and this world is being created by player and devs together, and I really trust in this project. Meantime I keep playing to UO to keep me busy ;) |

General Discussion « Greed Monger 11/14/12 3:37:30 AM
I had no doubt founding was going to succeed ;) all the GM community is getting very excited, and every day new stuff are coming out. Not only discussions, but also preview, screenshots, concepts...it's getting every day better and better! This is the time we will receive a WORLD and play happy in our sandbox, I feel it :P |

What I'm looking forward to, and why.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/09/12 2:34:59 AM
It looks like my own list of games to watch eheh. #1 is Greed Monger, because it's the most promising, developped from gamers to gamers and getting really in the right directions (take a look on the forum on the official page). Kickstarter is also almost founded! And especially, April 2013 beta will be ready. May be I would add to the list: Archeage, it's an Hybrid and not a pure sandbox, but very promising as well. And hopefully not too much to wait as well.. And Pathfinder Online could be a good option. Origins of Malu is also interesting, for sure i'll keep an eye on it as well. |

I'm really happy Greed Monger is now officially inserted on mmorpg.com games list! Well done Mogus! ^^

Why I trust Greed Monger as the only Ultima Online upcoming alternative.
General Discussion « Greed Monger 11/01/12 4:43:15 PM
Hi Everyone, before starting, I'd like to clarify I'm not here for advertising, nor I'm a part of the dev teams of Greed Monger. I registered to mmorpg.com a few weeks a go, because after I tried many recent mmorpg posted on the games list of this websites, I didn't find a valid alternative of all the emotions I enjoyed when I played for many years ultima online. I started thinking, may be it's me because I'm not a kid anymore (I was not so young when I was playing, though ;). But I'm sure it was not this. So I posted a request on this forum about what you would suggest as a valid UO alternative. I've received many suggestions, and also tried some games suggested, but the most exact answer I found is "There is no valid alternatives nowdays". May be there are, but more on the Sci-Fin other than fantasy like. And I'm a fantasy addict, I feel I need to remain in this world. So I checked carefully the great post of Larsa, a complete list of all Sandbox mmorpg available: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/349518/page/1 This was an interesting reading for sure. But, still, I wans't able to find what I was looking for. So to make my heart happy, I just jumped again on UO after buying back a vet account (I still repent I sold mine 5 years a go). And I found again what I was looking for. At least for the social part of UO, and also so many stuff, skills, items, and so many things that are keeping me busy and happy. Of course, the Graphic is still the same, and this is the only drawback - it's more difficult to "immerge" yourself on a 2d isometric world, after you get used to all the 3d high-res fantasy worlds. ArcheAge online is the only upcoming alternative, still, i'm not sure it will be the Ultima Online of 2013, being an Hybrid and the style failry different. Then, I read a post about Greed Monger that caught my attention. Not only the 3d Graphic is really impressive, but after reading the concept behind, I had the feeling "this could be the game that makes the difference". I'm a very sceptical person, and so many producers just promised so many new worlds and ended with a flop. But here there is something different. The staff, and all the people on the forum on official page supporting this game, are sharing exactly the same feeling. They are acting as a part of new community where all the wishes and all the "nostalgic UO feeling" is something in common. And the game is really developping in the right direction, with all the features needed to be a proud successor. And, last but not least, this is not a so-called Vaporware. A lot of work has been already done, and a closed beta is already estimated for April 2013. This is just around the corner! If you are also looking for a mmorpg bringing you back to the old time, but completely repainted with new flavours, I think you should really check this project, follow this closer, share your thoughs and help building a game exactly like you want. And show your support if you will have the same feeling I did. They are not a super sized company, therefore it's obious they need initial help. But all this allows us, players, to interact with the creators of this game, share our thoughs, and point in the right direction. For more details and to check out the Kickstarter campaign, feel free to visit the Greed Monker Official website (www.greedmonger.com). And I repeat - I'm not here telling you this as a Promoter, but as a Player who wants to finally build and enjoy a sandbox mmorpg like a lot of people are asking for.

Greed Monger - A Crafting Focused MMORPG
MMORPG Game Concepts « Developers Corner 11/01/12 4:06:43 PM
Definitely great! THis game deserves for sure an eye of attention. The kickstarter campaign started since 2 days and the Backers already show a great support. Also the forum of the official website are very active, and what made me so confident on all this, it's the philosophy of the team and that it's not a vaporware, because a good part of the job is already done, and a beta is estimated already on April 2013. That's not a game we will need to dream for years until something real will come out. It's just around the corner! I suggest you all to check the kickstarter campaign and show your support for this game, because it's certainly deserves. And all the Ultima Online Nostalgic will agree with all this ;)

Greed Monger - A Crafting Focused MMORPG

I understand people having a bad reactions on a game where "richer is stronger". But how comes that UO, pretty items based, still up and running after 15 years? You can hate it, but this kind of system, it puts a lot of competition. For rare collectors, for traders, for real estate brokers. You want to get rich? earn it! You don't have time to gather resources and mine for 6h daily? Pay this time and buy virtual gold with true money. It working exactly like this in the real world, therefore it's logical to think it should be the same in a virtual world. Of course, a balance is also needed. UO suffered a lot from the facts that PVP was only for 3l33t wearing dirty expensive gears. Then they introduced doom gauntlet and all the artifacts. Here also the noob player, had an equal % to get an artifact like any other veterans. And sell it for a shitload of money. And got enough money to buy the so expensive +20 Scrolls (spawning only on PvP area). Personally I think this system IS working perfectly, if the devs just find the right way to balance the PVP system, where new players can, after raised all their skills, get powerfull gears (in any way) to fight against vet. And leave to rich people the super ultra rare unique artifact costing millions that gives just a slightly minor bonus on various skills without being overpowered.

I just realized that Lineage 2 was Ultima Online 2 .......
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/24/12 1:01:06 AM
I don't really agree, otherwise I was already playing it instead of coming back to UO ;) LA2 is not a sandbox like UO. There is not so much freedom like UO. Ther eis no customer player housing (non instanced) to make this world yours (at least it was so..dunnow if they added it??) Still, it's a good game giving also some good nostalgic feeling, but calling it UO2 is definitely too much .. ;) |
