I left Aion for more reasons than one, but when this comes around I'll be back and finally feel satisfied since this is the way Aion should have been released. Innovative and charming.

Great, the biggest leap is always the server end so glad you got your shoes in that. If you want to go with java I suggest you take a loot at this http://www.jmonkeyengine.com/

There is a community and documentation so you will have some direction on where to go. Hope that helps, if you want to go client side with c++ then I'd take a look at garagegames.com and try out the Torque engine which can be used with their MMO kit to make the MMOing easier.

Don't listen to these jokers, if you have the time and mindset you can do something that takes a whole team. The problem is dedication, are you dedicated enough to spend all your time on doing it? If you don't have the time or the willingness to give up your time you are not going to complete the project.

My first question to you, is do you know any programming at all? And if so, what do you know? You mentioned a game like runescape, did you want to start off 2d or 3d? How much do you know about networking, servers, clusters? You are in for a lot of work if you are serious though I'll point you in the right direction to at least start your dream game, the rest is up to you.

Idiots consume Britney Spears records and watch American Idol in troves as well.  It doesn't make those product any good.  Why should Aion's numbers be any more indicative of quality?

Answer:  It doesn't.  Aion's numbers simply show that unthinking people will always consume crap.

Did you ever think maybe you are the idiot for not watching it? If the shoe can go on the other foot why can't it go back on the same foot? In other words your reasoning is moot because you just contradicted yourself.

The only way anyone is going to stop bots totally is until there is touch sensitive controls while programs just reads responses of those controls and possibly even measure the amount of pressure on the control, such as a key press or a mouse click to calculate if it is a real player or not.

Even that won't hold up when robots become the real deal, and when skynet becomes self-aware we are fucked anyway. It's a losing battle that will constantly be exploited.

Can the most epic rpg to date turn into a mmo ? Would you want this epic game to be turned into a mmo ? I would love this game to rurn into mmo form. Bioware is the best at the fantasy genre and I think it would make alot of sense for this to become a mmo. What do you guys think ?

You mean SW:The Old Republic without the fantasy?

I don't know why, but I couldn't stop laughing at this comment. I think it is partly having played the game knowing all the males look like raging homosexuals.

At any rate my word would be:

confused

And thus another stupid post about absolutely nothing to do with the subject and then op responding to replies that criticize his/her "great submission" as nerd rage. Calling a co-op experience anything related to an MMO just shows how much you know nothing about them. Happy Halloween :).

They have made one in the Japan and it failed so it never came to the states. Better luck next time.

What can I say? I can't blame them for taking advantage of a virtual system that is virtually untraceable to taxes/government etc. However I can't stand them, scum of all MMOs they are the pure reason why MMO economies go to shit cause too many bastards such as yourself buy ingame money from them and then their is a surplus that wouldn't normally be in the game which ends up lower prices substantially and to those playing legitimately get screwed.

I think your figures are way off, no way 90% of MMO players buy gold, I'd say more than half but it sure hell isn't 90%. So ya big fuckin thank you gold sellers for fuckin up my MMOs.

Has to be the first time I've ever heard anyone say anything about being man enough for a game. Are you man enough to sit at your PC and click buttons for hours on end? Are you huh? Ya ok....

The question should be, "Is your attention span dull enough?"

You know the opinion of the people around here seem to be consistent. Those that didn't grow up in the golden era of MUDs seem to have a mindset that graphics are everything, those that did grow up in that golden era are a lot more flexible taking gamepley over graphics. I still jump on MUDs and Web RPGs to this day so graphics don't have any effect on me to not play a game. The key is the immersion, if you feel drawn into the world you are going to stay. Their are MUDs out there that will blow away any technical MMO with the best graphics ever made in gameplay and complexity alone.

At any rate anything you can handcraft in my eyes is a huge success, so great job and keep it up looking forward to someday checking your MMO out. Best of luck!

I don't even see how you can remotely compare the two. The world is completely different in the fact that when you login to .hack you are using virtual reality. The premises is just so extremely different not to mention the whole field/dungeon system. The whole virus taking over the game. I know you are trying to compare it to the hub and instance dungeon but there just isn't anything else the same besides that idea of it which there are other mmos out there that do the same thing, specifically the action titles.

Lastly why should anything not require the net and who doesn't have the net these days, it's like water it's everywhere.

I noticed that the game makers were offering long-term discounts and in-game bonuses for those buying an extended subscription ahead of time.

Boy was I taken aback when I saw that they were charging the same price for the equivalent of the WoW Battlechest (Vanilla/Original Wow and The Burning Crusade Expansion pack), as well as the same monthly fees.

The game isn't finished. They're offering 1 race and a very limited amount of real estate. The game is going to bug-ridden, laggy, etc., all the same stuff you get when a new MMORPG comes out.

Yet they want to charge the same amount as the single most popular, proven and tested MMO out there.

I just don't get it. I really don't. The gall. Why do all these new games think they can roll up in their Hyundais with the bumper falling off and expect you to pay the same price you paid for your souped-up BMW?

Alganon was one of the few games I actually had some hopes for, and was actively looking forward to (despite the cries of "WoW-clone" I hear around here). This really made me roll my eyes and say "what the hell?"

Guys, read your own press releases. The product that you're releasing is not complete. You've said it yourselves. How the hell can you honestly charge people those ridiculous prices for a game that is (1) admittedly half-baked and (2) untested and untried? Do you really think early adopters are that silly with their cash?

This really put me off the game. Wanting me to pay premium prices for something they haven't finished and I am unable to get any feedback on ahead of time.

Unmitigated gall.

If WoW's a "souped-up BMW" then I don't want it. They are not charging anymore than a standard box and subscription to any other P2P MMO these days.

Here's the problem, any type of gameguard/ process checking program in a game can only legally check processes that are running with the game. They can not dive into and look around elsewhere.
This can only work to a certain point, a smart programmer that builds these bots be it what ever method will make it easy to change the process name or cloak it to be MS Paint or some normal app.
Beyond this I won't say all but 90% of gold farmers that advertise (not the ones that actually do the collecting/trading) are created by a keygen and within hours they can detect this delete the account which costs the gold farming company not a damn penny. They just open a new account. Ever wonder why they always have names like askhkhf? This is the exact reason it's illegal accounts that get canned fast.
Now then you'd say why can't they just find the ip and block it? The problem to that is the smart farming companies have proxies/ip cloakers that will ping around all over the world many times and would take forever(or some high tech software that NCSoft would not have) to trace to it's actual source. Blocking an ip also means that if the ip gets reset that someone else who is legitimately trying to play could get blocked if they managed to be in the area and get that ip when the box is reset or the isp resets the ips.
As far as the chat goes you can check www. etc. but you no the idiots will go www|whatever|com and there is no way of blocking that because what if a legitment player is chatting something out similar such as player1|roll for item or something like that. The point is you need to keep in mind that blocking the chat for bots could be blocking your players and that's why the chat is not touched more than it is.
In closing the only real way of getting rid of the bots that know how to get around everything but the actual game playing for them is a GM squad that watches areas. This costs money and development time and since it just launched not too long ago they may not have the resources or the crew to tackle this yet.
Hopefully they will do something about it, but the problem of the game isn't the bots it's the bore factor. That's why they already lost my subscription.
Anyway hopefully that answers some of your questions.

I have seen the same name (Askhkhf) Spamming chat and run into the "char" in the area "Botting" away. And log out and when I log back in the next day or two, there he is still in the same place doing the same thing only a few lvls higher than he was originally. AND EVEN USING THE EXACT SAME NAME!

You will because the same name can be used once the illegal key is found and deleted because that name opens. What they really need to do is not allow names like akjfakslfj although where does that end. When they start using normal names they can't just ban those names as well. It's a losing war because of technology the only real way to fight is hard worked man hours.

Who the hell still uses xfire, not the general population of an MMO that's who. You can't use xfire for any "real" stats, since more than half the population don't know/won't use it.

Thats like saying voting polls and media surveys are useless. Xfire polls % of the gaming populace 24/7, just because you dont personally use it doesnt mean anything. Eat some humble pie -----> xfire.com.

You just compared apples to oranges. Voting polls online mean jack obviously because of multiple posters. Voting polls in real life however is true statistics since the only means to vote is through the poll and it is also regulated so it can't be abused.

Media surveys are useless, it's wasted tax dollars. Like i need to know that 500 people out of 1000 think that this tooth brush is better because _. It's irrelevant in the fact that the product/service is opinion based. Or how 736 people got sick from this out of 5000 well it's a high concentration of sickness however what about those 4,264 people that weren't. It doesn't mean jack.

It's not a bad game, hell it has a lot of polish. I loved exploring the world, it is visually stunning even the deserts. The problem however like many of you said is it just ends up getting boring. Boring to grind and also a pain in the ass to do anything, when a quest takes you more than 45mins cause the mobs are being camped and you are constantly fighting others over the rights to a mob, it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I played beta, I supported the game but it just wore thin. For someone who hasn't played MMOs this would probably be a blast, for someone who has played too many it's just the same ol same ol.

What ever happened to that EQ movie?

That was canceled after SOE tried to pay the producer and staff with LoN boosters and lifetime subscriptions of every game on their current roster. In which the producer replied "No loot cards?"
