Now Blizzard even has it's own publisher AND it's moving to the console, and has another MMORPG coming.  Blizzard will do nothing but get bigger with regards to WoW.  The only game that can be a WoW killer is a game made by Blizzard.  No other company understands quality like Blizzard.  WoW was Blizzard FIRST mmorpg.  Not bad.  They learned a lot on the way so their next game will be just that much better than WoW.

We need that kind of thinking.  But I agree, AoC and WAR will create the middle class in MMORPGs and leave EQ2, LORTO and such behind.  I believe there are good things ahead for our industry.  We also have a new bioware MMORPG, hopefully a new Star Wars MMOG, and someone even owns the rights for the Star Trek Online MMOG.  These are the games that have potential in joining WAR and AoC as a middle class MMORPG. 

I believe no game we have seen to date will join WoW's concurrent paying subscriber numbers.  WoW was in the right place, at the right time, with the right product.

I would love if this happened.  We really need it right now, and I even hope that TCoS and Aion get successful as well!  I would like to play all of them at some point, and be able to never have this massively long lull where there aren't really enough good options.

Hey!  You can pre order from many places without putting anything down.  Many places have a default minimum and that has nothing to do with Funcom or anyone at Funcom it is a decision of the distributor.

The 5$ is for the 3 day headstart yes, but it is also for 10 days of game time.  When it is 15$ a month to play and 10 days = 1/3 of a month and 5$ = 1/3 of 15$ it makes more sense.  Also the head start is completely optional.  You can instead just play once you get the box!

Good post, and I was there at launch and from Closed Beta to Open Beta.  I try to be around for every games launch and OB in the hopes that each game will add something new and fresh to our beautiful MMO genre.  This is why I defend new games, and have high hopes for all contenders.  We should all want all of these games to succeed otherwise there will not be any MMO's to go back to or switch between.  There won't be any options.

Well considering in the last radio interview with the lead designer where he said that casual players should be able to reach level 80 in 2-3 months, and the more hardcore players in 1 month or less I doubt they will get it in 3 days.  7-8 days of playtime(7-8 x 24hrs) seems to be what they are going for.

It looks like they are giving out free keys on fileplanet! I guess they want to overload the servers.  Lets try to grind them to a halt! WooHoo! lol

We are spread out.  We usually have a ton of people on vent talking, but we have characters on all of the servers.  At launch we all went 1, but then we mixed it up after 1 got full in like 10 minutes.  Hopefully you like rp-pvp and we end up on the same server!

Reading comprehension? I did not talk smack, i stated what i perceive as design flaws that annoyed me in the first 13 levels. I never said anything about the game past level 20. I said that the real game starts at 20, this does imply that it does change but due to beta limitation i can not comment and will play the final to find out.

Just to clear something up you only have to do the Destiny Quests in single player ONE time on your account and after that you can group up with other players, tackle group content, and never go to the single player area outside of the 10-15 minutes the first area encapsulates.  Are you complaining that each race doesn't have it's own starting areas where you can be ignored by twinks and people power leveling their alts?

While you try to make a strong argument with the apparent reading and writing skills you possess, i fail to see where in my post i stated that i hate the game. It does seem that you do personally know the lead designer and if he is indeed a really cool guy that still does not qualify him for being a good designer. If i have insulted one of your personal friends by calling him a fruitcake i apologize and call him unqualified instead.

I now hope even more that this game is successful just so I can find you one day and slap you with a dead animal. 

I seriously doubt that even if we meet in game that i will more than shrug off your offensive attitude and promptly put you on my ignore list.

I doubt you've ever been past level 13.  How can we judge the game on level 14-20, or 21-40 without playing it.

Just to state something up front.  I pre-ordered AoC about a week ago and the game has been on my radar for several months now.  Have to say WAR is my first choice but with the latest push back AoC went to the front of the queue.

I am a regular player of MMO's and recently I have spoken to a fair few AoC beta testers who are being less than complimentary of the game.  I log on here and I see a lot of the same issues being raised, which are:

* community is mostly 14 year olds getting off on the gore and nudity

* combat is average

* way too buggy and not ready to launch

I take a lot of this with a pinch of salt because 3 MMO's I play now and really enjoy were slammed at this stage also.  However I have yet to speak to one person who really swears by this game...not a good sign imo.

I did worry about a game that was pushing for 'unbelievable' graghics and tailored combat.  I don't think the average PC or ISP can handle it tbh.  Vanguard looked great on my pc but bombed out because 6/10 gamers couldn't play the damn thing.  I wonder if AoC needs another 6 months and maybe wise to push back just like War...

Be glad to hear from anyone why this game is so great and how they had some good experiences with the community because I am losing faith fast!

 

 

 

It's all a matter of opinion, but everyone that I play with which is close to 200 people has been between the ages of 18-50.  In Open Beta i'm sure some kids are getting in but I doubt they will stay for launch.

The combat is awesome in my opinion and will only get more advanced as combos get more difficult and spellweaving gets added.

It is running much more smoothly now for many people.

Just wait for reviews after launch.

I think this game has pretty good graphics, but excellent gameplay.  I think WoW has bad graphics and horrible gameplay.  Everyone has an opinion, but you don't see me trolling the WoW boards talking about how that game is a mindless item grind made for the lowest common denominator.

Whats the last game you played that really shined in beta? Or perhaps a game that didnt improve from beta to the release candidate? (Dont even tread Vanguard territory, thats unspeakable). As for the beta thing, even EQ was reasonably functional during it's beta, and I was playing it 4 months before release, not a couple of weeks.  They've been diamonds in the rough during beta and they were released as diamonds in the rough and finally polished.  Age of Conan is a piece of dog shit in the grass and it will be released a piece of dog shit in the grass.  The best we can hope for is that few people don't step in it before the grass has time to grow up around it so we don't have to look at it anymore.

It was originally designed for levels 1-20 on Tortage Island to be single player with very immersive single player questing to make your character feel more Conan-esque and badass even at low levels.  I think it does a good job of this but it requires a lot of instancing.  This information has been around forever but that is your main complaint...  It changes after level 20. 

The combat moves on to 5 directions later in the game and combos get more advanced as you level spanning multiple directions.  The shields are for regular melee strikes where later in the game you would be using combos, or spellweaving, or spells, etc. to fight.  Direction of attack matters as well.  It's also twitch based so if you swing your sword and are out of range it doesn't hit them.  It's not like a normal MMO where you queue attack then run around out of range and do nothing, but go in range and auto attack kicks in.

This is a very cool fighting system in my opinion, but the casters are a bit too much like other MMOs for now, but with Spellweaving I think they will be really cool.

Sorry for any confusion..  I didn't mean to imply that no WAR people stir up drama on the AoC side or vice versa, but most of the stupid drama i've seen have been from AoC fans who jumped ship, and then AoC fans going against them on these boards. 

I'm sure there are people that bash AoC just because they are fans of WAR, and people that bash WAR just because they are fans of AoC but it's like a vicious cycle.

Again we should all want both games to succeed as the market for us as MMO gamers is weak as hell right now.  It's really in a bad state...  We should welcome new entries into it and we should all support new ideas and games as they give us more Worlds to get lost in.

I think there are a lot of cool intelligent people arguing over nothing just because some moronic trolls are stirring up drama left and right and these people are getting drawn into it.  It's like if an idiot attacks AoC claiming WAR is better because of blah blah blah and then someone defends it they might get fed up and lash back about WAR because of blah blah blah and thus insult more of these cool people causing them to come back about blah blah blah.   I've confused myself...

They have replied by updating the patch notes when you log on to show all of the existing bugs and then show when they are fixed which has been pretty promptly.  They are working on fixes...  There is no reason they should be wasting time on crowd control for all of these people when they've already made up their minds and decided that this game will bring about the plague of seven nations on everyone's souls.

Nice review!  Thanks for the write up seriously.  Since the patch I haven't had many of these issues and I hope that Funcom can pull it all together for a good launch and fix things quickly.  I think this game shows great promise and i'm having a lot of fun in the OB.  Really good read.

As others have said, it's not a zero sum contest and it shouldn't be made out that way.  The games can co-exist among the different demographics and even within them because the games cater to some different play styles (as well as offering different adventures.)

were not the ones who started this fight...disgruntled AoC fans started this thread so back off therain.   Honestly those of us that have been active in the WAR forum except for a few that shall remain unnamed have left AoC's Forums relatively alone or atleast tried to be positive.

He's right almost all the drama is from AoC people.  WAR people have always been pretty laid back and into their game.  Half the attackers attack both games...
