Will item usage be gated based on character "level" or certifications (yes, I realize there are no literal levels)?

For instance, if I start a brand new character, and my friend has been playing for 5 years, and can make an extremely powerful Super Duper Sword of Ass-kicking, will I be able to use it on day one?

There won't ever be an extremely powerful Super Duper Sword of Ass-kicking.  And if he did make you a sword that he himself was using at the top level, you wouldn't have the skills to survive in battle enough to actually keep it.  Not to mention that if you are just starting out, your swordsmanship will be at such a low level that you wouldn't be hitting for very much or know any techniques with it.

The way UO had it was that items had some sort of basic strength requirement, but essentially any newbie could wield any weapon.  They would miss a crap-ton if they had a katana of vanquishing and no swordsmanship/tactics skill to compliment the weapon, and their hits would be weak, and they would die and get it looted, but they could still weild it.  I would assume that the Darkfall system will be at the very least reminiscent of the UO system.

While I am normally a PVE player with a dislike of PVP, I do like consequences and freedom in a game, and Darkfall seems to be headed that way.

Has been a long time since I felt like I was playing in a world and not in some linear game.  Let's hope Darkfall delivers

I've gone through my PvE stints, and they are ALWAYS more fun in an environment that's challenging and dynamic.  It's exhilarating to barely get away from a PK with your phat monster lewt, running your arse off through the forests.

I love how if someone doesnt enjoy a sandbox, they are somehow less of a player. Some people have enough of a real life they dont need a second life in a non-permanent world. Who's really the sad one? Get over yourself.

I really like how you pointed out how bad the argument is, and then used it at the end of your post as your own argument.

who cares?

I don't want other gameplay areas lacking because they wanted to spend more time and money on something as silly as animations.

I don't want to wait another 2 years so their 5 person art team can get some great animations.

This game isn't about the graphics or the animations, if you can't stomache it, there are hundreds of other games that'll have some sick new animations, go play one.

This is where companies get off thinking they can charge 15 bucks a month for a beta game:  Because we allow it.

Just because it doesnt make sense, is wrong in your eyes, or for whatever reasons, doesn't mean that companies shouldn't do it.  It's actually quite smart tbh... until the consumer says no, and the company no longer deems it worthy to do.

You vote with your dollar, period.

Hopefully companies will take a look at what happened with Vanguard, and decide in the future to wait to release thier game.

I have been away from MMORPG's for a few years now, and looking to get back in.  Since I can't really afford anything I started to look into ebay and amazon stores.  What are your peoples' experiences with buying from these guys?

I mean they seem incredibly legit, with over 97% positive feedback, thousands and thousands of other items, etc.  But the price is only 1/4 of what I would pay at the store or a publishers site.

I can get the game I'm looking at for 6.00+3shipping from an ebay store, where the publisher sells for 40, amazon for 30.

Am I going to not be able to create an account?  Not get the CD key?  Get scammed?  Or is this legit?

The game + a free initial 30 days for HALF the price of one normal month of subscription fees... seems too good to be true...

As to FPV versus TPV i think that the feature of making your screen shake while in combat is pretty cool, but hearing that the views are restricted especially switcing between melee/magic/archery is just...well dumb. Go full one way or the other, giving certain players the advantage of TPV....what are they thinking? Especially if youre a hybrid like me and switching between TPV and FPV modes must really make you dizzy. I also dont see the point of giving melee players TPV mode when the thrill all lies in melee in FPV. As to it being realistic...is it really that "realistic" to have a straight view of things (around 90 degrees) when in real life you have around a 160 degree perception range?

FPV restricts from seeing over objects your crouched behind, around walls your hiding behind, etc.  In DAoC you could be behind someone, and be seen, they could be completely behind a tree watching you, you could be almost on the edge of wall, but pan the camera around to see whats on other side, etc etc.  As for melee being funner in the FPV, the devs switched it to a tight 3PV because they thought it was funner to melee like that rather then a FPV.
