*Sigh*

To read these threads and see people PAID and involved in the industry trying to tell us that its OK for a game to release unfinished and broken.  There is a reason why police officers aren't paid per ticket they write... its called conflict of interest.  If a game developer were to tell the community... "Yes we know our game is broken and will be full of bugs and glitches... in fact we don't believe any of the promised features will make it out to the players for at least a year... if ever"... how many would actually buy or pay for the product?

I have a secret for any and everyone who feels they've been getting ripped off lately... If you look back in time you'll notice "many" (not all ... but many)... games offer demos shortly before or after release dates.  PLAY THESE Demos.  I for one do, and I find it a great way to judge if a game is really worth my money or not.

You'll notice that many games which do not offer a demo at or around release do it for a reason.  They know that any demo they provided would just reduce the number of sales as players would see just how broken or "crapy" their title is.

MMO's have the unique advantage of having started off with the "idea" that they aren't required to release a demo or "free trial" till many MANY months after release.

The Torrent community is a god-send for us gamers.  While many call it illegal and are fighting against these sites.  I call it a "forced" demo.  Developers who refuse to release a demo of their product... are given NO choice because of the Torrent community.  I have saved myself 100's maybe 1000's of dollars because of it.  And no, its not because I download illegal software for use on my personal computer... its because the 30-60 minutes I spend on the demos I download... save me from spending 50-60 dollars on these products which I will end up never using...

Rather than having these HUGE number rating systems... 1-100 or 1-50... we need more sites to be HONEST and truthful with the community.  Empire Earth was rated at somewhere around 50-60 by this site if i'm not mistaken.  The game is TERRIBLE... it should never have gotten more than 30 or 40 to be generous.

I'm quite amazed to not see any flames yet.  I assumed the first page of posts on this thread would be about how much wow sucks and how terrible it is and how much better "X" is.. bla bla bla

Its nice to see some balanced input and reviews.  I played wow a TON... many many many 60's and a 70..  I don't think 70 killed or ruined the game... I feel that it just let the softcore casual gamers see what it was like to be geared as well as a hardcore raider...

Anyway back to the main topic... I'm just amazed that out of the millions and millions that play WoW... those huge numbers of players weren't able to push wow into the top list of MMO's here... but like the guy said I think that community is different than this one.  Blizzard forums are awsome.  They might be full of spammers and little kids talking shit.  But they're FULL none the less.

You take a game like Vanguard that (aside from other reasons) failed horribly because they took down the OFFICAL forums and communication with the community.  Blizzard has had HUGE success with all of their games.  And if you notice, they've had battle.net going since the start.  (well Diablo/Starcraft anyway).  A FREE and common communication between all players and even some of the development staff is REQUIRED for success in an online game.

I noticed that World of Warcraft isn't on the top mmo's list for this site... I find that pretty funny.... It seems that the "underground" RPG fans HATE wow with a passion.  The hardcore EQ boys and girls... the Hardcore D&D fans...

I guess the point of this post is to ask, why so much hate.  Sure some don't like it... thats fine.  But the fact that it has the most active accounts and players EVER for an MMO and the fact that it brought the whole MMORPG idea to mainstream gaming....

I will agree or say one thing... I think WoW helped to KILL the quality of mmo's these days.  No one has the money or funding to produce something as "grand" as blizzard has.  So everything looks cheap and clunky when compared

If you've beat/finished wow as far as you want to go... Vanguard "was" terrible but supposidly they're changing it a lot...  Ummm... EQ2 has changed a TON since the launch...

But like everyone has said in 100's of posts... There just isn't anything great out right now... WoW was HUGE for years and years... still is huge... but a lot of people are burnt out on it... Hopefully Warhammer or Conan will be good and big enough to stand a chance against WoW.
