Old developers returning to Vanguard? Should we?

Originally posted by Shivam I think its more along the lines of people won't play because there is not enough people playing. I logged in and I have not heard nor seen one person in game.. How to solve the or break away from themepark mmo's.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/10/12 6:34:32 PM
The problem with playing sandbox games is there isn't any quality ones IMO.. Well I guess EvE is pretty good quality wise but I'm just not into being a ship most of the time. I missed out on the sanbox games back in the day and played a little bit of EQ and FFXI as my first MMO's then played wow off and on for a year and countless other mmos.
I got bored of the themepark style of game, but the Quality and Polish of the themeparks like the music, sfx ,animations makes it kinda hard to play a sandbox with a fraction of the budget. Even though I like the ideas of Darkfall and Dawntide and Xsyon when I try to play I can't help to think how crap the animations and sound is compared to other Themepark games. I think thats why people won't play the sandbox games currently out, they are used to the quality of themparks.
So if Arche Age can bring in some sandboxyish gameplay but have all the graphics, sounds and animation that is the same quality of all these other themeparks we'll start seeing AAA devs start working on more Sandboxish type games. |

Well after getting bored with SWTOR I decided to try VG again from scratch and no trial island. I know it may be empty but I want to help populate the game. I find it funny that people always complain that there aren't enough players and they'll come back when more do play. We'll if everyone had that mentality then the game will never grow. BIte the bullet people and play it and at least help the game grow instead of waiting on the sidelines for something to happen.
I still have 10 gigs to download so I won't be on for like a nother day, I have slow internet. I installed from the disks I bought at launch and I was hoping it wouldn't take too much longer to patch, but I guess luck was not in my favor. |

The problem is the companies that are trying something new are the companies that don't have the money to make a QUALITY game. But it looks like a QUALITY somewhat sandbox game is in the horizon Arche Age. So far I like what I see and Im more than happy to pay a 15 bones sub for that game. Yeah maybe playing a half assed game could help it become a better one, but I don't think supporting games that launched half ass helps anything. IMO it would actually show dev's its ok to launch half ass games. |

If they put a free trial up for returning players I'd play it again and see how things have changed. Like others said, If they dropped the sub to like 5 bones I'd probably subscribe again. Otherwise I'll just wait for Arche Age.
To the guy above, I wish I could play MO I spend all day downloading it just to get an error patching it.. I deleted it asap, I mean if you can't even get the patcher to function right chances are in game features are broken as well. |

I thought maybe with the SW IP I might enjoy a themepark type game.

Originally posted by lalartu I am a Sith Sorcerer and I got bored quick.. I did play a little bit of the agent and liked it a little. I may try playing that and going Sniper and see how that goes.. Not sure who said it, but about the combat being to easy, thats the problem. It is too easy and there is just too much of it. |

Oh man was I wrong. I do enjoy the story of the game and the voiceovers, I always hated reading quests in games. But one thing that I noticed about the game, there is way, way to much fighting in the game.. It seems like you can't got 2 steps without getting into a fight most of the time.. I tried to sneak around as much stuff as I can, but still it jsut gets annoying fighting and fighting. Sure you can send your companions to do stuff and craft, but that is all the Non combat stuff there is, or at least its all I found. I guess I should just give up on trying to enjoy Themeparks. Just to clear things up Im not a SWG fanboy I never got to play the Original SWG. |

this guy makes good points about pvp and world pvp.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/03/12 6:03:36 PM
I didn't get into PVP till I played Warhammer, and it was mostly open world PvP to boot. Some of the funnest times I had in that game was playing Musical Keeps. I went around defending keeps for hours on end not caring that there was a reward, I just wanted to kill people.
But ofcourse if there was bonuses for controling an area and such that is just a plus. I like to PvP sometimes just to get away from chasing that carrot in PvE. |

ArcheAge must definitely introduce instanced-PvE.
General Discussion « ArcheAge 2/02/12 2:31:53 PM
Honestly I don't see why strategic battles can't be done in an Open world environment. Yeah sometimes you may get wiped out by other guilds but that risk makes it more fun IMO. If the developers put more time into the coding AI instead of working on graphics then things could work.. I don't know why devs haven't made aggro more complex like how it was in FFXI. You can aggro by sound, sight, magic, smell there might be other Its been a while since I played. Every other game its all aggro by if you get to close to them. So lets say youre fighting a boss and some other group comes but the boss doesn't like how some of the other people smell or they use a particular magic spell the boss dont' like he'd start attacking them. The tables have been turned , you can either chose to fight the boss , the other guild, or both. I enjoy Open PVP better than Instanced PVP as well because you never know when your next battle will be and how many you will have to fight. Its those variables that make things exciting to me, instanced stuff can be fun but after a while it gets borring cuz there are no variables like the guild sneaking up and trying to kill you.

A successful SWTOR is bad for the industry
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/02/12 1:27:57 PM
Just face the facts man, your in a niche crowd and you know that the big companies won't cater to you. The original MMOers have grown up and can't play for 6 plus hours a day, and the kids who can like themeparks. |

Major annoyance - Outleveling your story
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/23/12 11:04:38 PM
I'm In the exact opposite boat, I am getting my ass kicked by my storyline right now. I guess i was a little antsy and went to Balmora to quickly. I even leveled up cuz when I first tried it I was almost to 18, and I still get raped. I'm gonna have to group up just to beat it .haha

Reviews & Impressions « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/23/12 6:54:56 PM
I'm not really bothered by the instancing as much as I thought I would be. Mainly because when you do go into most instances there are no loading screens and if there is one my computer is beast so they don't take long to load. I guess I got used to loading screens too cuz I've taking a year off MMO's and played single player games for a while. But I do agree with the no Valor in PvP. I love world PvP not BG type PvP... To be honnest Im just playing this game cuz I like SW and I hate reading, IF they did get one thing right is Voiceover for most of the quests I actually feel like I'm part lof the world. |
