Those are resistances, not damage bonuses.

All of my characters from Phase 4 are showing up on the new ffxiv forum.

However, when I fired up the client, I clicked through the agreements and it did not ask me to select which character I wanted to give the preorder items to.  I'm still not even confident the preorder/EA codes have gone through.   I haven't received any contact from SE this week.

PC version.

You're not wrong OP, however ...

The email I received when I bought the game said this:

Visit <link> and register. You will be notified via email prior to the launch of the game on when you can return and redeem your preorder code (code listed above) to unlock Early Access to the game along with instructions on how to receive your Cait Sith Doll minion and Moogle Cap digital content

When I received it several weeks ago I followed the directions and entered my email address so that I could be notified.

I still haven't received that email notifying me to go to <link> and redeem my preorder code.

The website I was later directed to displayed this prior to August 20:

For all countries outside of Japan, registration of the pre-order bonus code is scheduled to begin on the 20th of August, 2013.

In order to log in to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn during the early access period, you must first register your pre-order code. Please follow the onscreen instructions to complete registration.

This page is for the registration of Windows pre-order codes only. For pre-order codes on the PlayStation®3, please register through PlayStation®Store.

And yet another point of access gives this message today:

You can now redeem your pre-order code and download the game to prepare for early access, which begins on August 24th, 2013. You will receive the Cait Sith Doll Minion and Mog Cap items via the Moogle Delivery Service in-game mail system when official service begins.

So which is it?  Am I supposed to wait for the email to tell me to go <link> to redeem my preorder code?  Did redemption of the preorder code begin on August 20 and I wasn't added to the proper email list to be notified?  Am I supposed to listen to the website that says I can now redeem my preorder code despite not receiving the email?  With the massive load they're under, how long will it take me to get through customer service to actually get answers and/or my issue resolved?  Ultimately, I entered my code and I'm now registered according to my profile, but I still haven't gotten the actual EA code email yet.

People freaking out and entering their code 100 times and calling for heads need to chill, but it's really okay to admit that SE has not handled this as well as they could have, because they haven't.

If you're going to tell people that code redemption is open on the 20th, then be prepared to send out emails on the 20th -- whether that email says you can all redeem your preorder code now or we'll be letting people enter in waves to relieve congestion and please wait for another email --  be prepared to handle a large number of players registering their codes, be prepared to have the follow-up emails with the 20-digit code sent, and be prepared for things to go wrong.

That ARR is a better game than 1.0 and that other companies have not been prepared either might be true, but it is also immaterial to the truth/falsehood of SE's lack of preparation.  It doesn't mean the world is going to end or the game will fail or SE is the worst company in the world.  They recovered from the 3102 and 90k business and assure us that these are now history, and they will recover from the preorder code business too.  The world will go on.  EA will start on August 24 and the game will launch three days later.  Players will play, SE will make money.  And SE still will not have handled the events of launch week as well as they could have.

Mine is now showing up on my na.square-enix.com account.

I've had FFXIV active on my service account at square-enix.com/na/ since Beta, but my account at na.square-enix.com showed no registered games until some time in the last couple of hours.

I plugged my 18-digit preorder code from Amazon in earlier in the day (8/20) and got an error thrown back at me, so maybe it did go through, just not in the manner originally intended.

My primary concern is my beta characters showing up when I start playing the game on August 24.   Maybe everybody's is the same way, but the use of two apparently different account systems to keep track of things on SE's end makes me feel uncomfortable about that.

Forcing game mechanics is also close enough to hacking that any judge would obsolve any responiblity of SE to give early access.

So, people are given conflicting information about being able to register codes beginning on the 20th and waiting for an email that still hasn't come and it crosses your mind that SE should sue players for "hacking" to prove a point ...

Agreed...lol.

I was kind of hoping one of the dudes would turn into a female mithra though - would have been more realistic lol.

ROFL

I was thinking it felt like a military or shoe company commercial where everyday people morph into soldiers or athletes, while narrated by the voice of a 1980s He-Man toy commercial: "Only YOU can stop the evil forces of Skeletor!"

Because progress.

Voice acting since they started including it in the FF games has always been kind of hit-or-miss for me.  Audio quality aside, I really liked the party voices in XII, but hated most of them in X.  Loved Lightning and Sazh in XIII, couldn't stand Snow or Vanille.  I thought Thancred sounded terrible.  They should have gotten Henry Cavill.

I was not around for 1.x, so I have no idea what was asked for.

The game is what it is.  The reasons don't really matter anymore except to contrast with where FFXIV was originally..  The game will be evaluated by most players on the experience it offers now, not on how well it conforms to the vision 1.x players and alpha and beta testers laid out with the devs.

Great accomplishment, and definitely a positive given what they're recovering from with this game.  It should be noted, of course, that they draw from a substantial Japanese market simultaneous with North America, Europe, and Oceania.

As mentioned above, there were over 20k people who reported 3102 issues on the beta forum tech support thread; we'll probably never know if these players who were still "logged in" according to the error were being counted in that number.

Extend it?  I want them to have as much time to fix this as possible.  Clearly it's not something that can be done with a hotfix or server restart or they would have done it.  In this particular case "beta" works as an excuse, because it's a technical issue rather than a design one and it's not costing players anything but the time they spend continuously checking on the status of the error.  Now, if this is happening two weeks from now, SE will deserve all of the criticism coming their way regarding the issue IMO.

RE: arcanists:

The  FATEs outside of LL are crazy with all the glowy Carbuncles.  Watching them from afar, it's almost surreal, especially when it's night in the game.

The last bad customer service experience I had was SWTOR, since then my in-game issues have been handled in a timely manner with the desired results by reps from both Funcom (in TSW) and ArenaNet (in GW2).  Back when I played WoW a lot my experiences with Blizzard CS ranged from bad to excellent, though I've read it has gotten pretty awful now.

As far as how the team comes off, I think they're a lot more into the gaming side of games than I originally imagined.  Final Fantasy has been successful on the whole, and they've gotten into "spinoff mode" in the last decade, and that IMO makes them feel like guys in suits, but now that I've had the privilege to sort of look through the window, you can see this team at least is not like that.  They're miles ahead of the peeps who worked on SWTOR and those that are currently left on WoW IMO.

ANet leveraged social media and the visible communities like Reddit to make themselves look good.  Which is fine.  It just doesn't mean you know how to make a game.  I say that as a point of fact, not to claim that GW2 sucks. I logged over 800 hours on that game.  There are a lot of things I liked about it, but ultimately it was ANet's management of their game -- rather than their presentation, which IMO has been great -- that made me lose interest in that game.

I do like the simplicity of GW2's linked forum and account system.  I never feel like I have to divine what they mean, which is unfortunately not always the case with SE's bizarre SE/service/member axis of evil.

Eh?  The sound effects are bugged then on some hardware, because I got no weather-related sound at all.  I even checked all the options to make sure I hadn't turned them off because having the visuals without the sound doesn't feel right at all.

I think it could use a little work with transitions.  I didn't check this time, but I know in the previous phases rain on water (ETA: in Gridania) was not creating a visible splash, which looked bad IMO.  There are, I'm sure, various little tweaks that could continue to improve it.  I think it rains too much in Thanalan.

Overall, I'm happy they've included it.  Dynamic weather and day-night cycles help keep it real, and makes it so that the same space can feel different at different times.  It enables you to "get more" out of your zones.  When you're hoping players play in them for dozens of hours over the course of months or years, that can make a difference IMO.

I'm tempted to put together an image showing off all the characters I've devoted substantial time to in the MMOs I've played.  There are monsters of varoius shapes, sizes, and genders, human men of different ages, builds, and skin colors, undead women and men, Victoria's secret models with horns, goth women, cat women, and so on.

I'm not trying to hide behind my characters, and since some people have serious emotional reactions when they discover a player is not who they imagined them to be, I'd have no problem displaying a little Mars symbol in my character's name tag.

I roll characters I think look cool, have good animations, look good in the game's armor, etc.  For me, in this game, that's a female Miqo'te.  Whether plate or robes or the bard artifact armor or mittens, they can pull off every look in the game IMO.  In a game that lets you play every class, that was a big factor for me.

Even at 6 pm their time most of the players on the server I was on were NA/EU people, but I think it might be because we ended up rolling on newly offered servers.

Either that or instead of standing around turning the cities and lowbee areas into trade and Barrens chat respectively, they, you know, actually play the game.

ETA: the trolls and rude people never got 3102ed because they don't actually play the game.  They stand around trolling and being rude and don't do things that get their characters stuck in limbo.

Something like...

PGL 15, THM 8, CNJ 8, LNC 6, ARC(her) 6, GLD 3 plus BTN 12, WVR 4 (and assorted other crafting classes from level 1-3)

... before getting 3102ed.

Afterwards, I rolled on the Japanese servers and tried out Arcanist to level 9 and convinced myself that I will level my "main" to 50 as an Arcanist/Summoner ... if I ever see her again.  /much wailing and rending of garments

Because voiceovers are a sure sign of a terrible game and ensure that it will fail ...

When's the last time you heard someone praise a game just because it had voice overs?

Where did I say, "Voiceovers alone can make a great game!" or "People praise sucky games just for their voiceovers!"?

All the SWTOR argument says is that voiceovers don't save a bad game.  It says nothing about what voiceovers could do for ARR, and people should stop implying that it does.  That was all I was suggesting.

There are some very good reasons why voiceovers could actually hurt a game, but a "failed" game -- one which failed for way more reasons than it spent too many resources on voiceovers -- is not a reason, merely an example.   Used by itself, it's an intellectually bankrupt argument.

"The last Final Fantasy MMO set in Eorzea with 'XIV' in it's title failed."  And what ... ?

It scares me that there are people that say they don't like to read and reading is no fun, so they want someone else to read for them.

Is it lack of imagination, or the need to have 100% action in a role playing game? Or becoming more widespread analphabetism?

So how many people in this thread have said, "I don't like reading.  Reading is no fun.  I want someone to read to me"?

Enjoying voiceovers in games doesn't require you to hate reading, think it's no fun, or have no imagination.

If you're going to throw lack of imagination and some uncultured need for more action as characteristics of people who would like more voiceovers, then why the hell are you here?  They make text-based online RPGs where you don't have a team of artists imagining the world and characters for you either.

meh, fine. Still.

lol, yeah, sorry.  I had all that garbage thrown in my face tonight RE: 3102.  I didn't want you guys to miss it.  ;)

Stop overreacting.  IT'S BETA.  9,000 out of 9 million people is nothing.  Get a better computer/connection.  I'm not having any issues because I actually spent more than $5 on a computer and internet connection.   There's always the Japanese servers too, so it's not like you can't play.   Geez, I can't wait until the game launches so these trolls playing the game for free GTFO with their entitled BS.

( Did I do that right?  I wanted to see what that felt like. )

Anyway yeah, 3102ed also.
