Kakaski, if you had any real MMO experience you'd realize carebear is a term used by alot of gamers from different MMOs, please go somewhere else..

Hmm, WAR a copy of WoW?  How about WoW a copy of WAR?  No game has ever been more about lore and PvP then WAR, if you've even played it, you'd understand.  In WAR, your always fighting to capture a city, or getting teams together to do huge instanced dungeons, in WoW, your doing huge dungeons but what else?  Battlegrounds?  Wintergrasp?  Excuse me if I say so myself, the idea of Wintergrasp was just a bit WARs idea.

Thank you

Yeah, can you send it to Blackhawk9123@aol.com please?

Thanks bro,

Rileyman

Hey friend, I didn't get mine, how long will it take?

 Id like one please

amen brother, its about time we get something thats not all protective because of whiny players,, these devs know the dangers they might face because of small population.. and I think their ready to take that chance..

I'm DONE

Just kill yourself now Mr. jako jako, I can understand you being upset but you need to realize a few a things:

Aventurine isn't a big time company like Blizzard, so it must be hard to coordinate and operate a business while still being able to support the mainframe of the game.  To take seven years to develop the game before you, attempt to keep the community updated and involved (remember, small company), feed the press with information, market the game which includes advertising, distributing, research, try and keep up with competitor prices/quality of the game (the publisher probably does most of this, but Aventurine is still involved), etc.

Take everyone of these steps and add more sub-steps such as proper management, human resources, community managment, etc.

Now don't forget, this is a small company, it doesn't have the resources to compete with a multi-millionare/billionare company as Blizzard, nor do I think it even wants to, not because they can't, but because thats not what their trying to do.

Before you go off comparing Aventurine to Blizzard, think about what your really talking about.

Lack of offical Information? Look it up yourself besides copying what the troll next to you is saying.  Their is over 600 OFFICAL screenshots, 9 OFFICAL game videos, and about 280 OFFICAL pages of developer journals, articles, and Q&A transcripts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkfall), look for them, don't sit here and complain about them.

The few updates aren't good enough for you?  Thats your problem, some people enjoy them.

Darkfall Forum Mod Nazis?  Havn't come across one yet, and when I have they close it because it is probably something that was either answered before in a sticky that says "READ HERE FIRST!" that most people don't bother reading, or it is probably something such as "this game sucks", or "when is it coming out, they lied to us!" etc.

"Pathetically" religous fanbase? Says the guy complaining about an unreleased video game on the internet to other internet users!  I need go no further

Again, if you had any idea what running a business is like, you'd realize their is a LOT of stuff that comes up, and a LOT of problems, especially a business running a video game, let alone an MMO.  In the end, its coming out anyways, ever hear patience?

Arrogant Development Team?  When did they state their game is 100% bug free?  It wouldn't be in closed beta if it was bug free.

Pathetic excuses the fans come up with eh?  I think their are just confident the game will come out, and they will be happy to see it when it does, just because you never had anything to look forward to in your life and aren't confident about anything in your life doesn't mean you should automatically stereotype the Darkfall fanbase.

Pathetic excuses the development team keep coming up with..?  Well i'm sorry the problems that keep coming up aren't good enough for you, but keep in mind, problems come up all over the place.

Again, you said how WoW can handle 12 million with great stability, and how Darkfall should be able to support at least 200,000?  Lets start off by saying Blizzard has never stated that they have 12 Million ACTIVE PLAYERS each day.  They have on the other hand stated they have 12 Million Subscribers, add in gold sellers, alts, storage accounts, and the ones that are sitting their with no one playing them.  Now, try doing this thing called research.  Go ahead and find multiple server boxes supporting 200,000 people WITH great stability, get the price, then come talk to me.  You need to remember, all the money it took to develop the game, publish it, and for all the other small expenses and costs, it has to be hard on a SMALL game company such as Aventurine.

Website shutdowns 2-4 times a week?  Oh, you mean the maintenance to help keep the website up and running so people can still view it?  Oh oh, and you mean hours worth of work to clear up all the trash posts people like you leave, so they "potential playerbase" doesn't have to go through it all?

Haha, well that does sound like a personal problem, and buddy, you wouldn't know an ab workout if you got a lifetime supply of gym memberships and a full workout station in your computer room.

Bye!! No one will remember you or miss you at all

Understand what I said, maintenance doesn't have to be in the same routine, so it could be a sudden maintenance for some reason or another. Who knows? Its always nice to talk to a close-minded fellow every now and then

Ah well..

Damn, you beat me to it.  Well, one way to tell is if theirs any known routine way they do maintenance, if their is then its probably nothing special, if not then maybe their is something to it.

You guys need to realize something, this game is for a whole seperate community of MMO gamers.  I'm talking about people who WANT the thrill against losing it all, and gaining a lot from other players, rather than all these other games that make sure you keep all your loot.  I would assume that Aventurine knows that they will not have such a large playerbase due to the significant differences between Darkfall and other MMOs.

Hello,

Let me start off by saying my name is Eric "Rileyman" Grushinski, and I am an idependent concept artist/writer.

We all know that MMORPGs are all about exploration, but what does that REALLY mean?

Exploration to the MMORPG genre means exploring things already said to you, things you KNOW are their, and KNOW exist.  For instance, some things may say "Explore TheCoolestEverInstance!"  But then again, its not really exploring if you know its already their.

As I was brainstorming the other night I found out a new way to give exploration to the players by combining sandbox style gameplay with the MMO genre.

(Game titles mentioned don't exist, therefore aren't real games)

Lets say for instance, you buy a game labeled "Age of the Jarihols Bloodline", a newly released MMORPG.

On the package, it might tell you all about its 12 instances, PvP gameplay,  4 professions, and what not so you know what the game is about and what their is to do in the game.

Or

(These next few paragraphs are my ideas)

On the package, it could tell you that the number of instances and professions in the game is unknown, and its up to the player to discover them.  Now of course they will be coded into the game, but they will just be in an unknown location and no one will know where to go for these instances, or what to do for professions.

(This is where the downfall of the game will be to the majority of MMORPG players.)

Players, while doing beginner quests (tutorials) will have the opportunity to go into the wild with one of many tour guides of the village/city/etc.  While outside, you the player, will be asked to collect all the herbs you see (he will supply you with the bag), and the tour guide would explain to you why he wants you to collect these herbs, so he can find a cure for his mothers disease (which is just like a expell disease potion.)

So, if you follow what the tour guide says, and you collect a whole bunch of random herbs, then give them to him, and he makes the potion, and gives it to his mother at the end of the tour.  His mother becomes cured, and in an emotionally twisting moment, he explains to you how hes tried other types of herbs, but they have failed, and then he gives you one he made, which you will then be able to identify what herbs are in it by filtering it and thusly destroying the potion.  But since you wouldn't know where to find these herbs, you will have to then explore the lands.

And this is how it would be for other professions, too.  It wouldn't tell you what professions you can do, but it will lead you on to that alchemy is out their, and you can do it.

I was also thinking of a game where based on how thinly or thick you combine certain herbs and what types of liquids you use to combine them with, could determine what you make and how effective it is, but then again, their just some random ideas.

I could go on for days explaining all my other ideas, but I don't have time right now.

Overall, my ideas posess a sense of exploration in its purest form, and a freedom to the player to truly create a masterpiece.

(Some might say this is like Warhammer Online, but Warhammer Online told you that you can do this profession, and the setup of the game won't tell you what professions you can do until you've actually explored the profession itself and discovered a certain minimum amount of herbs.

Also, a lot of you might also argue that what i've mentioned today is the basis of every MMORPG, its just that they've been discovered already.  Well, with that in mind, the ever evolving storyline and season/weather system will make it so not all herbs will be available at one time, and tons of new ones might even be available at certain times.

Leave your questions/comments here.

Thanks!

Eric "Rileyman" Grushinski

The best game for crafting, is one that revolves around crafting.  Wurm Online is just that.

I'll explain the crafting system.

Say you want to make yourself just a plain, durable shortsword.  Well the following must be done:

1. Get the tools you need to create a shortsword by either crafting or buying them, which are the following:

A pickaxe, a mallet, a small iron anvil, iron ore, an iron forge/fire, a steel fint and tinder, a saw, a container (pan), and a carving knife.

What you would need to start doing is find a mine. Usually people dig their own, so lets say you want to dig your own mine.  First you'd need to dig with a shovel, which wasn't mentioned above because its optional.  About 5 - 10 minutes of digging should get you to reach rock.  Once you reach rock you need to start hitting the rock with your axe 12+ times which should be around another 5 - 10 minutes.  If your lucky, you might reach an iron ore deposit the first try, normally this isn't the case.

Once thats done, and you've reached your iron ore, you need to start mining your iron ore with your pickaxe.  Wurm measures the amount of material you need to make something in weight, so if every piece of iron ore weighs 20LBs, you can only carry about a maximum of 8 pieces on you.  Then, you'd carry your ore to where your iron forge or fire is.  You also need to wait for the iron forge to heat up before you can use it.  Once the iron forge is heated up, you then place them in the iron forge for about 10 minutes and they will become iron lumps, which using the following equation: (20KG Iron Ore = 1KG Iron Lump).  Once they turn into iron lumps you then need a small anvil to make the short blade, it happens upon chance based on your skill, so if you fail, you need to repeat the process over again.

If you manage to suceed you then need to get your saw and go and cut down a tree, which then turns into a felled tree laying where the tree was.  Then you need to chop up the felled tree, and take the logs which are normally around 4KG per log, and you need to make a shaft which require about 2KG logs.  Then you take your carving knife and create a shaft, again, bases on chance from your skills, you may fail making a shaft.  Once you make the shaft, you then make it into a wooden handle with the carving knife, and it also may fail.  If you've managed to make the wooden handle, you then attach the wooden handle with the shortblade, and if you manage to suceed with that, you've just made your first weapon.  This procees can take an hour plus, so its not just a simple collect and make with a recipie game.

Your also to make different sized houses, which takes a good amount of work.  You can also make boats, rafts, carts, barrels, walls, etc.  The land IS terraformable, meaning if I dig in a spot EVERYONE else in the world can see it.  And you are required to eat and drink to keep yourself hydrated and fueled to work.  Its a fun game, and rewarding once you've finally done something.

This game has tons of potential.  The playerbase is fairly small, normally less than 300 on at one time.  The animations aren't the worlds greatest, but their acceptable.  Also, theirs a day/knight system which lasts fairly long, and at night it really is hard to see things, so you might need to make/buy a latern or whatnot.

The webiste is http://www.wurmonline.com/.

Thanks for reading!

Over the past few years, we've all played some pretty terrible and some pretty awsome MMORPGs.  If you've looked at the more creative MMORPGs you might notice a stronger community base, such as Face of Mankind, or Warhammer Online.  With these games, you are somewhat forced to cooperate with your faction and people you don't know.  With that in mind, I still play other games with the people I played Face of Mankind with, and Warhammer.  More games should be released with idea of building communities, and not just online chat rooms.

And by that I mean design a game so players have to work together, and when people work together, they get to know the person, and when they get to know the person, they decide if they want to stay affiliated with them, and if they do, they can build a guild together, and in turn, will sometimes create a new community not just in that game, but for all the games they play.

God damn.. this seriously made me cry.. remembering all of the good times we all had..

You'll never find another game like this..

Rest In Peace

Face of Mankind

Well your overlooking a simple fact.  Its the players choice to enter the PvP, if he/she wants to take that risk then go ahead and fight.  If they want to lose their character that has hours of playing time and lots of money its their choice.

Vinter, I'd love to know what you mean by "security issues".

Replies like these... I feel like I am too smart for this forum...

Replies like these, I feel like cptgame thinks hes to smart, when in actuality, hes a smartass.

Well thank you for your wonderful comments.  It's pretty self explanitory from here "Fighting against another player to win their character".. If you cannot understand that, then please explain to me why not.

Edit: I'd also like to ask why you think this is making fun of PvP?  Are you some sort of PvP expert?

In my opinion, anyone who says TR is another "vanguard launch" is a bit mistaken.  First of all, Vanguard had NOTHING to offer to the MMO society.  Standerd classes, standerd everything, nothing special.  As for you people who say its just laggy and crappy, try upgrading your crappy computer, first.  Tabula Rasa is with one of the freshest MMO genres, MMOFPS.  Unique for those who enjoy FPS, "crappy and laggy" for those who hate FPS.
