Random loot drops.

I see you've discussed the usual "Just where was that tiger carrying this rifle? o.0" type of drops.

other types:

1. "In order to be the Supreme Poobah they should be carrying a badge of office. Bring me 10 Supreme Poobah badges." Kill! "hmm, he must have left it at home", Kill, "nope nothin'", etc. etc.

2. The Raptors of the Barrens.

  • "Bring me 12 Raptor heads". Kill. "Hmm, no head. Why didn't I notice that before I killed it?"
  • Collect 3 raptor feathers to put on their nests to send them a message. "That raptor has feathers on him.", Kill, "Nope, must be seeing things."

3. The Random Squared drop. "Kill creatures for a random drop, then use this machine on the drop to see if it's the right one."

4.  "Kill all, wait for respawn, kill all those, wait for respawn, kill. Oh, here it is!" That poor lady's son was killed by a creature that didn't exist until just now...

Argue it all you like.  It doesn't have to be money first.  It never has been with Blizzard games.  Until now...

Yeah, Blizzard always gave away their games for free until now!

Blizzard has always been known for creating top quality games above all. True dat! The amount of profit was irrelevant. Doubt that. Profit = new game development. More profit = more, better game development.

These changes are made to create EXTRA money.  According to many ( many = greater than 0, less than infinity? So... 3? ) - these changes do not effect game enjoyment. I thought we were worried about "gameplay". There is no doubt these changes effect "enjoyment", else why would people pay for them? And Blizzard of old would then have not accepted things like that into their games. Maybe because no one had ever thought of doing it way back in those mystical mythical times when games were free to make and devs didn't need to eat.

The only purpose of this vanity items is to make EXTRA money.  Uh, yeah. "EXTRA" money? You're a socialist, aren't you? Extra money = profit = new game development. Blizzard of old would never have allowed that. Close personal friends are you? Cause true gamers (mythical creatures that loathe money) would add it into the game as part of GAMEPLAY - not to pay extra to enhance gaming enjoyment. You know this because you worked with them on the dev. team, right? RIGHT?

I have always respected Blizzard for their products and I still do.   That on the other hand does not mean that the FUTURE products from Blizzard will get my respect.  Cause a line has been crossed ( LOOK OUT! DON'T TRIP! ) where EXTRA money has been made more important than the enjoyment of the gamer.

If you haven't noticed, the cost of living is constantly going up. Things are more expensive to produce these days, including software. So, instead of jacking up the monthly sub fee and raising box prices, Blizzard is getting creative and adding new optional items you can buy and services you can use, to help game development. I guess you'd rather pay more per month?

I don't know much about the warcraft-lore, but,... a panda!? I'm pretty sure the lore contains no such thing, which means it's a REALLY bad addition (no matter if it's for a good cause)

fail poll is fail ( to use a WoW forum meme )

It's a double-bind question. Both answers make Blizzard look bad.

Charging players 2/3s of the monthly sub fee for a single pet is absolutely ridiculous.

I know, because the pet only lasts for a month!

oh, wait....

And then I have the option to cancel my subscription. It really is that simple. Until then, I don't really care that its 2 vanity pets with no in-game impact.

lol, what about people who collect pets in-game?  Oh, you can't have that one, go buy it.

Then so be it. If they want the pet, they spend the money if they want it badly enough. If not, then they don't. I have 71 pets in game, but have no desire to buy one from a shop. If someone else does, fine...its their right to do so. And my right not too. Not sure what the issue is really.

/rolls eyes

You just don't get Templarga. Only the really cool kids truly understand game hating and arguing and only the truly epic awesomesauce kids WoW-hate. Apparently you're just not one of them.

Yeah Temp, get with the program. Start a new account and troll correctly!

But now we have a brought to you by ad sticker over the pictures on the latest features section? That's beyond overkill and really takes away from the images. How much ad space really has to be sold here?

Yeah, that's pretty tacky. Worse than the synchronized banner ads that randomly pop up. Glad I don't have epilepsy!

Wouldn't the "brought to you by" be better if it was "smaller" than the feature it was bringing?

As it is, I don't usually see a lot of ads here, because I don't want to white-list some outside the domain ad server. There are a few that originate from mmorpg.com that I see, because I white-listed this site. I wouldn't mind seeing more because I like and want to support the site.

Is Dragon Age an MMO even?

I remember when the picture viewer on this site used to pop up an ad every 5 pictures. Total over-kill since there was a banner  ad in the frame with the picture and around the frame you could still see the ads on the page behind.

I was just about to edit my post and put a picture of Kaim from LO and I saw you post this.

I guess we've both committed sacrilegious acts now.

I have a great idea, lets have a poll, but lets start out by insulting the people we're polling... and let's not be intelligent about it either.  We'll just use namecalling and pretend we're all children.  Yah, that'd be the best!

I'm sorry I didn't think the name carebear was offensive. My apologies. I'll change it.

Not offensive to me... Hell, I'm a self-proclaimed PvP wh0re!  But I'm sure that those who fit into that category do not appreciate the term.

As someone who LOVES pvp, I'll throw my two cents in... If someone doesn't want to pvp, there's no fun in that for me.  To me that's just an excuse to be an asshole.

Let's make a deal, the OP can use "Carebear", if he uses "PKs" instead of "PvPers"...

I picked the 3rd option.

I liked Warhammer but didn't think they separated the PVP-PVE enough. They still put PVE quests in the PVP areas.

"take away the PKer and - well, we've seen the ending of that story in countless MMOs."

Yes, the world would be a Utopia and subs would go up. Players would able to play the game without looking over their shoulders all the time. As the immortal Cartman said after they vanquished the exploiting PK, "Now we can finally play the game."

Apparently there are 2 kinds of Carebears, the PvP kind who are comfortable with just stat loss, and the non-PvP kind that want more protections. Which kind of sounds elitist and makes it sound like no matter how many PvPers you get together in a PvP only game, some could still be classified as "Carebears"?

and if there are no Carebears, the anti-PK's would just go back to being the PVPer's they are. And then the game would eventually die. (Assuming it's not a Magnet PVP game attracting PvPers from other games allowing them to die in it's stead. )

So, I guess all are NOT needed?

I wonder what would happen if the Failcom guys met up with the $OE guys? Would they have a fail off to see who the biggest losers are?

"Nuh-huh!"

It is only the result of Ignorance. A massive multi player online role playing game.

This genre is like the seed of a great tree and the poison that does not allow It to grow is solo game design.

A gamer should be allowed to play the game and have experiences without grouping but the core component that is needed for this genre to grow is community and grouping.

Player interactivity, grouping and community is as important to keeping this genre alive as food is to our bodies.

Without It, It becomes a dead life form.

oh god not this again.
There is more to life than hanging out with people ALL of the time. Do you mean to tell me that every aspect of your life must be in a group setting? You never enjoy alone time? Read a book? Good glass of wine, laying back and just relaxing?
If an mmo is supposed to be a "world" then I'm fairly confident that the people who make up that world are all different and require different levels of social interaction. the multi-player refers to numerous people in that world all playing at the same time. What they choose to do with their time depends on who they are.
Some will group all the time, some will spend a lot of time crafting, some will go out in the world and explore on their own.
it is very clear, given the numours types of people out there, that there will be numerous ways of playing these games.

Yes, Sorvath. It's that time of the month again...
You know, that time when they get overly dramatic and cry when you look at them wrong?

And then there are those who will just bitch about bitching... :roll-eyes:

So, I do Blizzards job of moving my info to the new account and they give me a pixel Penguin?

I only have one Blizzard account, so why can't they just move the info over?

And then give me the pet for having to go through the hassle of logging in in a different way? ;)

The game is being put out by Funcom and a few folks are not real happy with those Dev's me being one of them. Funcom's track record says that The Seceret World will be heavily hyped and delivered unfinished. Funcom has recently layed off another 20% of employees leaving alot of questions as to how well the company is doing. With anything Funcom " Let the Buyer Beware".

How is the part marked in red different different from any other MMORPG?

Ruin MMORPG's for me?

No. I came here originally looking for more MMORPGs!

The only thing that ruins MMORPGs for me are people who are looking for MMOGs to play, not MMORPGs...

GameGuard was killing my wifi dongle software, putting me offline whenever i was turning aion on, making it impossible to play.

I'm glad i can now play Aion woithout reverting to hacking GameGuard.

Yeah, I had a similar problem with my UPS monitoring software, since GG closes down a bunch of USB connections/software.

Ironically, I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't updated the UPS software a week before starting the BETA. The UPS software now has an audible warning that the UPS is off-line. So I got to hear a lot of

"UPS Communication lost"

"UPS Communication Established"

when I started then exited the game.

Other than that, no problems.
