Can you hand down old equipment? or is there companion specific equipment?

i hand down equpment quite often in STO, to my Bridge Officers.

Don't the others get jealous?

It helps if you turn off the marking of light/darkside choices.  I believe it's somewhere in the preferences menu.

Oh, good. thanks for the info. I thought I was gonna be told what my choices effected based on what was said earlier in the thread.

I'm currently playing Fallout 3 and Oblivion and some of the Good/Bad choices stuff is really screwed up.

For example:

In FO3 I killed the "Family" and rescued the boy but taking their stuff is stealing? They're dead, who am I stealing from?

In Oblivion: I did the Paranoia quest with Glarthair(?) and killed him when he attacked me, but I can't take anything from his house because it's stealing??? He's dead, who am I stealing from. The game doesn't take into account who attacked who.

Sounds like SWOTOR also has a few of these issues.

So, they do orphanage work to make themselves feel better after cheating all day? How "Mother Teresa" of them...

I'm just surprised at the total lack of advertisement for SWTOR in the UK. It's no good copying the World of Warcraft strategy of waiting several years before having TV adverts, you need to hit the ground running now to make an impact and BioWare seem to be doing the opposite.

Some cable channel ( USA, FX, Spike? ) was showing some Star Wars movies a couple of weeks ago and I think I saw a SWTOR ad. It's hard to remember though, because the Chuck Norris WoW ads, that were also shown, were much more memorable.

Will GW2 be the light at the end of the tunnel?

Or Will it be just another dim bulb, dangling along the way?

MMORPG, this is what's showing up on your website as adds. The CLEARER version easily shows nipples through that shirt >_>.

No it doesn't.

Disappointment comes from expectation, expectation leads to the dark side...

OMFG! LMAO! Oh yes he did!

If I could mis-spell "yes", this would make more sense.

In every other mmo, you run up to an npc with a mark on, accept whatever quest they have, run to the next, and accept, run to where the pointers tell you, run back and deliver, repeat 2000 times, that's not "hard-mode"... It's just a huge boring grind.

I think you mean in other themepark MMOs.

In sandbox you get to kill thousands of mobs for no apparent reason just to level.

But...but... it's sand... in a box... How can it not be great?

I have a friend who did a 44 hr marathon with his guild over the weekend

In the end, Blizzard has only had 3 - IP's - StarCraft, WarCraft, and  Diablo -- They are successful becuase they broke open, and created new standards, some would say they got lucky, but they also made sure they have allot of replaybility, and polish in their games, which is why they are so often used for E-Sporting, which creates HUGE amounts of exposure, not to mention, they use their sizable captial reserved for mainstream marketing, thats big point too.

blizzards prior games were innovative and pioneering but I would not make the same claim for wow

WOW only had 1 new standard --- POLISH,  all of WOW features already existed before in other online games

So, Everquest was originally an RTS game and got ported to an MMORPG?

No? Then I guess Blizzard doing it is pretty "Innovative and pioneering"

The Book(s) of Swords -- Saberhagen

Thomas Covenant -- Donaldson

Ringworld/Known Space -- Niven

Heechee  -- Pohl

Ender -- Card

Neuromancer (et al) -- Gibson

Moties -- Niven/Pournelle

Foundation -- Asimov

Not all of them would be suitable for a great MMO, I don't think, but they all have "deep" enough universes, enough "lore" to work with.

I would expand Foundation to include the whole Azimov universe as they all seemed to be pulled from the same timeline.

The Gaean series Titan , Wizard, and Demon By John Varley

David Drake - Hammers Slammers or Lt. Leary novels

Secret Histories series ( Eddie Drood ) - Simon R. Green

Any of the C. J. Cherryh Universes. Red Moon - PVP, The Well series - Fantasy, Downbelow Station/Company Wars/Cyteen/Chanur/Faded Sun - SciFi

All these would be acceptable worlds/universes to live in, whether they would make good games is another question.

But I'm thnking I'd be more interested in a "NEW" IP, "New" to me, anyway. A lot of the IP's I'm familiar with also have expectations based on my experiences with them and rememberances of them.

Well, 100's of millions of dollars were spent creating the game.  If something got a lot of beta feedback asking for improvement and nothing changed that is discouraging.

Ofcourse the lack of options is not game breaking.  You basically have some people saying they don't care how they look, just like in real life.  But in real life you have more options to be a slob.  How many slobs in real life would cry like babies if they couldn't walk around in pajamas with morning hair at Walmart?

Sorry, not picking on you.

Production cycles are not that quick in software. How long has the beta been going? Even with "months and months" of feedback, like the OP mentioned. We might be lucky and start seeing this stuff January-ish? If some companies give that illusion of a quick response, it's usually because they were already working on it...

I was looking forward to some long hair designs for girls.  I hate short hair butch looking female avatars.  So...probably will go with male avatar in this game.

How short? Male short back and sides? Pixie cut? Mohawk? Faux-hawk? Does it touch the shoulders at least? Any ponytails?

Long hair is a unfortunately a no-no in MMORPG's because of clipping concerns.

The bestest longest hair I've seen in an MMORPG was the top-not braid in EQ2. It looked like it was Phys-X enabled and swung about and danced like it had weight.

This is an MMO but it is not an MMORPG.

It's an action MMO with RPG elements.

It has as many RPG elements, if not more, of any other MMORPG out there.  Its an MMORPG. Stop trying to split hairs.

Very true. A-net are trying very hard to inject a lot of RPG elements in GW2.

A-Net tried hard to differentiate GW from the rest of the MMOPRG's by calling it a CORPG "Cooperative Online RPG".

That's just Marketting speak.

When you played it, it turned out to be just a MMORPG except with hubs and instances.

Where the hell did that 120+ million dollars in dev cost go!?

Actually it's over 300 million and most of it went directly to mister George Lucas.

Amidoinitrite?

Dude, unless you work there (which I doubt you do, based upon the fact that you're in the Netherlands) quit spouting out the same old tired crap that has already been proven to be wrong.  EA has already stated (on an investor call I think?) that the dev costs were less than 1/2 of that crap that some disgruntled ex-EA employee lied about.

And I seriously doubt that George Lucas saw a penny of the development costs, duh... he'll see royalties sure, but not development costs.

I think what Dark Pony was doing there just went straight over your head, I'll let you work it out but I will give you a clue...

Amidoinitrite?

Pretty close... hold your pinkey a little higher.... PERFECT!

So what if it is Chuck Norris?

Bottom line is . . .

If Chuck and you where trapped in a burning building, I'd save Chuck and still never care who you are.

Blasphemy!

If Chuck was trapped in a burning building, he'd have:

- freed himself and the other 50 victims,

- performed major surgery without a scalpel,

- debrided the burn wounds of the victims with his beard ( the burn would be healed by the time he was done )

- Raised the dead ones by telling them they weren't dead because he hadn't killed them... yet

And put out the fire with a cold stare,

all while you stand outside, peeing in your pants, trying to decide whether or not to go in and rescue him...
