WOW vs WarHammer: Age of Reckoning(take poll inside)
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 11/13/06 4:18:34 AM
Even with its long-time fanbase, WAR will not be such a commercial success as WoW has been. The simple reason for that being, that WAR will be a heavily PvP centric game. I am pretty sure that Mythic will pull this off, considering the success they had/have with DAoC. But still, PvP - even in a controlled "fairplay" environment - does not appeal to everybody. What makes WoW so attractive, is how easy it is to get into it; even if if you are not an experienced (PvP) player.
That branch names dont make a game has been impressivly demonstrated by Turbine with D&DO and SOE with Star Wars Galaxies (although that game used to be somewhat succesful in its days). Both have much larger fan bases and are, commercially speaking, not exactly succesful. So I guess 500k active subscribers is what we can expect for WAR, if the developers dont make any major mistakes ;) So no, WAR will not replace WOW as the most succesful MMO of all time, but it will certainly attract a significant number of players. |
