Next up is talent points, flying mounts, stealth, and battlegrounds/instances, soulbinding items, and more. Don't dare to disagree, because they are CLEARLY catering to the large carebear crowd. Will all this be at once, no. It will be slow changes patch by patch and disguised in a way to look like the best thing since sliced bread. I've loved Darkfall since 2005, but that love is fading... very quickly.

lol, you need to read up on what Trammel is and, here's a hint, how big it is compared to the small safe zones covering the NPC starter cities which will possibly protect you while you kill goblins and get virtually no loot as they are such a low level mob.

So much things disabled ...it is so AV ...and also very worrying.

At least they admit it before launch...

While it is a bit sad they won't be in at launch it is nice to know they are getting revamped. Besides no-one will be able to build any for some time anyway. I love the new stuff though like the contract system, that sounds awesome.

Sure sure, all the criticism is getting stomped on by the mods. I'm sure anyone who goes to actually look will find nothing but good comments on the official forums. They are also being one sided and are not locking threads that go against said criticism like this one.

The point is, its all about PvP, which makes the game a PvP orientated Themepark, a sandbox game wouldnt have that kind of focus, anyone who has played either Eve Online or SWG pre-NGE will know what i mean. It doesnt really matter what the scope is of the PVP in the game, which, despite using the word scope, in your argument, really doesnt list many factors, just 3 in fact, even Eve onlines PvP has much wider scope for PVP than that, the reason why this is the case, is because, DF;UW is not a sandbox game, it doesnt have the tools to support that kind of open ended gameplay, DFO didnt and the 'upgraded' version of DFO isnt really that much different from the original.

Darkfall is not only PvP, it also has exploration, PvE, crafting, trade and so on. You can start playing the game and stay in the NPC cities and gather, craft, PvE and trade if that is your thing. Or you can join others and take, build up and hold a city or hamlet. You can also decide to wage war with others and take their holdings. The game doesn't tell you which route to take, that is up to the player. Darkfall is a sandbox game.

However, it is completely fair to say that it could have more sandbox features. But it will also be fair to say that about any sandbox game that will come out for some considerable time because I can't foresee any game coming out any time soon that allows the user to do anything they want.

Originally posted by Gdemami All so far announced changes are rather minor. They are just changes in features of current DF but design is being untouched - FFA PVP arena. Once would say "re-releasing" same game with same flawed concept is borderline of retardedness...
How is completely changing the skill system into a role/school system a minor change? Would you say the same if WoW stopped using classes and started using a skill based system like the initial Darkfall?

Yeah, because we could make 4 or 5 times more but we didn't want those money, we are niche! It's getting old... Enormous? Compared to..?
So you would rather all games tried to cater to all people because that would mean they sell more copies? We already have plenty of clones out there to satisfy you, the fact that Darkfall for one is not doing that should be applauded.

They have gone for a lot of new stuff, like the role/school system which got rid of what was not working, i.e. everyone having the same skill set with no diversity. They are adapting and are changing based on past experienced. If you don't like what they are doing then that is fine, however that is your opinion and it is one that AV clearly disagrees with.

And they needed 3 years and "completely new game" for that?

Those are just minor stuff, the overall flawed game design of FFA PVP arena did not change for UW.

The difference between EVE and DF is not how they started but what they have become.

CCP developed very complex, massive sandbox. Aventurine did not move an inch with DF.

It is not whether I like or dislike what Aventurine does, I am just asking not to pretend they are doing something they are not.

UW is not a "new game" it is same ole DF because they are very same game.

They have made fundamental changes to the way the game will play. On top of that the have changed the sound, lighting, graphics and even the world and models. Again, saying that DF:UW is the same old Darkfall is your opinion (and I have no issue with you holding it though I disagree), it is not a fact.

They have the courage of their convictions.

It would be courageous if they went with something new and then put their effort into developing of what is working and getting rid of what is not.

Just like CCP did with EVE Online in their early years.

But that is not what they did with DF though. They do have an opinion but ignore past experience, refuse to adapt and still proudly promote flawed concepts.

They do not learn, they do no listen. That isn't courageous, that's stupid.

The new role/school system allows them to let people get PvP ready more quickly while still allowing longer term character development. This works because you only need to skill up 2 role schools out of the 16 availible initially as you can only use 2 at a time.

Maybe their hoping that because its a 'fresh' start for players, that people will come back, which some undoubtedly will, but i really doubt it will gain signficant 'presence' DFO only had about 10k players, i don't really see DF;UW improving on that.

As one of the previous posters already said:

"It's Aventurine. There is no clever plan."

Aventurine is a company that learns very slowly(if ever) or simply do not care. They will make the game, regardless whether someone actually plays it or not...

They have the courage of their convictions. Which is why they actually made a full loot ffa pvp game with fps aiming when they could have accepted lots of money and turned it into another bland game that would appeal to more people. They learn, they listen, but they also have their opinion and are not afraid to go with it. Personally I think that is a good thing.

I think the new videos are showing off new features instead of showing old ones.  I am hoping the third person archery was just that, and FP will still be the default.

I think the big question is will Darkfall: Unholy wars be ready for Nove 20th?  With the current release of information and gameplay videos, many are doubting this...especially with AV's track record.

Leading up to the release of the original game they didn't post much in game content as they had the philosophy that it is good for people to find out about it as they play. They seem to be doing the same this time round so I don't think it is anything to worry about. If a delay was on the cards they wouldn't have explicitly stated a week or two ago that they were taking the servers down on the 15th to make more room for DF:UW.

The most frightening simalirity seem me IMO to be, that both "expansions"/"patches" try to remove the existant playerbase in favor of a new one.

Also similar seems to me that the direction of the NGE and DF UW is in favor of the mainstream. a WoWification so to speak.

They are trying to remove the existing playerbase? Rubish. It is still a FFA PvP game with full loot, siege warfare and so on. The addition of the roles/schools mearly add diversity to the combat system, which is still fps aimed. Please explain how that is WoWification.

So all the negative stuff, up to and including "F*** (not censored on the DF forum) YOU AV.", in this thread does not exist? I just re-read it and I'm pretty sure that if I can read it so can others. There are already a lot of threads about the update, it was not neccasary for you to create another one and it got locked.

Oh right, people can express thier veiws but only in places that it won't be read.  Gotcha.

P.s. be careful about assumptions you make - they are just that, assumptions.

Like the assumption that they are censoring the forum for negative posts just because you had a thread locked even though there are any number of negative posts all over their forums for everyone to read...

Actually less than a month until launch, with no player-involved beta, and two tiny clips of game footage the latest of which had the caveat :"The video follows: Please ignore the health-mana-stamina bar appearance in this video. This is from a test client with this specific configuration." (source: http://www.darkfallonline.com/blog/?p=3349) there is genuine reason to be very concerned about the reasons why Aventurine are being so coy about the state of thier game.

"Heavily beta tested and ready to go" does not gel at all with new classes appearing to re-introduce things that were taken out because of bad balance issues, and ignoring the community rather than engaging with them to assure them that their concerns are either being taken on board or are unfounded.  They are clearly not engaging in a constructive way, and for a game that is relying solely on world of mouth to advertise this game, primarily from those whom they are refusing to engage with right now, that seems to me to be a perilous path indeed.

That looks sick!! I know that's not the video people are complaining about. It has 3rd person view for ranged combat now. Awesome!!!

Any more new videos showing off gameplay?

From that video, the game looks purely awesome!!!

Last weeks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG40NPkI4rA

The official forums are not being censored for negative posts. In fact the mods are way way over in the other direction and let all sorts of trolling and crap get posted which is why a lot of people avoid them.

A Man stands besides a lone Ash tree, one hand rests upon its gnarled and weathered skin. Mist surrounds both, isolation would appear apparent.

The Man kneels upon one knee, a hidden necklace falls from beneath his armour. He picks up a clump of earth, breaking it within his thumb and forefingers. Watching it fall to the ground as if by mere touch he can assume its composition.

The figure stands once more, tall and proud, seemingly satisfied with his scrutiny of the dirt. Only then does he notice the now exposed necklace, he raises the small symbol of a hammer which hangs from the chain to his lips, before harbouring it once more beneath his chain shirt. A gesture as familiar to him as breathing.

A Raven lands upon the uppermost branches, the Man falls under its perusal briefly before it finally settles with a shake of its feathered head.

The Man turns, raises his hands skywards fists clenched. A guttural cry escapes his lips. The bird hops from talon to talon full of anguish.

Then silence...

As if by divine intervention the mists are dissolved. A horizon besieged by multicoloured sails, the Man's roar is answered from a thousand throats. Then a mass of armour, sword and axe stream from the now present sea.

The already aggrieved Raven squawks its protest to the approaching horde before taking to wing. The Man stands amidst the swirling torrent of axe and sword, like a island engulfed by a raging river.

He points towards the now retreating carrion.

“Tell Allfather that Valhalla will welcome us soon.
But not yet, not yet.”

His words pursue the Raven, he turns once more to the fray.

And so it begins...

Size: 40+
Race: Human only
Minimum Age: 18+
Theme: We are Vikings!
Voicecoms: TeamSpeak 3
Website: www.DanesLaw.com
Nationality: English speaking EU clan with some NA members
Independence: We are an independent clan and have no plan to ally up
Focus: PvP, PvE, Craft, Trade, Practical Roleplay (roleplaying is not required!)

DanesLaw is an independent EU, English speaking practical roleplay clan run by people who have played Darkfall successfully since beta/release over three and a half years ago. We are open to people who want to roleplay as well as those who don't. For example, we have a challenge system in place where those of lower military rank can challenge those above them to a fight and if they win they will gain their rank. This fits our theme and gives more immersion in the guilds lore but does not require people to speak in "thee"s and "thou"s.

Being Vikings you can expect plenty of action, sieges, raids and mercenary work. We are not a pure PvP clan though, we have plenty of members who enjoy PvE, crafting, trading and so on. We also hold regular clan events that range from monster slaying to tournaments. As mentioned above we also have a challenge system that allows members to advance in our military ranks by fighting those of higher rank and taking their title if they win. We are putting in a lot of effort writing up rich lore so those looking for a guild with something more to offer, or have an interest in Vikings or history, will be well catered for.

We are looking for mature people who enjoy team play and events, to join our community. You are not required to be an awesome PvPer as we are a well rounded clan and do not specialize solely on PvP. However, you are required to follow orders when you do join in with our raiding/siege/mercenary work as team play is very important to us. You must also be a Human and have a Viking name. We are also limiting recruitment to those aged 18 and above.

There is plenty of interest in the game as the people who played at the start seem to all be coming back and we are getting a lot of new people as well as those who tried but didn't get past the initial bugs of launch. If you like the danger of a PvP game then you should definitely give Darkfall a serious try. If you like it you will probably love it. :D

The official forum "Darkfall Public Clan Forums" is for DF:UW guilds as it was only opened very recently. However having a forum here is good for those who wish to use this site instead of the official one. It is also something that MMORPG.com does as shown by their GW2 forums.
It would be nice to have a guild forum here, I PM'd a moderator about it a while ago. Maybe they are waiting for the number of guild posts to increase as it has done now.
