Max is just upset because he can't figure out the battle system.

if you want to avoid the grind, do a dungeon. With a leader who has party quests. If you do it with a leader that doesn't have party quests, you'll take twice as long to get rich and lots of experience. Party quests are largely ignored by the majority of players, because they don't know how useful they are. They seriously remove the grind.

I'm from Mari. And I think the playerbase is just as mature as any other server, the problem is the flood of MapleStory players. But if you look around you can find mature players as well.

If you want help to kill the little golem [which spawns in Ciar beginner as the boss]

Use icebolt or smash to start the battle.  Then defend and walk away constantly while you are defending. He will eventually come after you with a normal attack. Hit him back after this with your combo, then defend and walk away again. Do this until he grows. When he grows, just rush at him with your normal attack and keep that up constantly. I use a two hander, which is slow..at most he hits me twice at this stage. usually only once. I have killed him with this exact method, with a BROKEN bast-ard sword.

I notice a lot of people saying that if you lag, you die..Not quite true. I sometimes lag HORRIBLY because of my connection. If you know what you're doing well enough, you'll pull through. The problem is when the lag locks you up for a good 30 seconds, or just at a very crucial wrong moment.

The reason you are dying is merely because, honestly. The AI has outsmarted you in combat.

You need to learn what they do and what you can do to counter it. Your stats mean nothing if you do not fight well. Player skill is important. Practice and you'll get better, thats all I can say.

This is not a typical MMO where you can just get the best gear and rock on. A skilled level ten player, can wipe a dire white wolf easily. A ten year old character that is level ten, at that.

Okay, first off.. if you're level 17, 18, or whatever and you can't level up? do a Ciar Beginner Dungeon run. you will level -fast-  And if you're just killing wolves outside town..I'll tell you a secret. The reason you're not gaining 'massive amounts of xp'? Their anti camping system. Each successive kill is less xp in the same area. Unless you're in a dungeon.

As for the one being wiped around by monsters?  Archers are support. Just like in most fantasy combat stuff. Not like in other mmorpg's. Until you know how to use your counter and maybe windmill well enough, an archer is support.

Counter will ALWAYS work unless they windmill or use ranged! You just need to wait for the skill to set. If you click for your skill you will notice it the icon changes size until it reaches one and plays a certain sound. That is it setting.

Just because you can't kill something doesn't mean its too hard. It means you need to practice and learn to fight better. Honestly your stats aren't nearly so important as player skill. This game rewards the skilled, not the grinders.

Mabinogi.

That should be Nuff said right about there, yup.

But just in case it isn't..

You can die very easily if you mess up. You have to constantly think in combat, and react to the enemy according to what they do. Your level is not nearly as important as the skill of the player. Number one rule in Mabinogi is 'Do not get hit'

I pretty much get my MMO fix playing City of Heroes/Villains. CoX has a... mediocre soundtrack. It got turned off and replaced by a playlist consisting of soundtracks from various superhero movies (The X-Men 1 through 3, Batman Begins, Spider-Man, Superman Returns... There's a whole stack of them). The only beef was that often enough a slow, quiet piece was playing while I and my group were tearing through baddies, or some high-charged action piece would come on while I was hanging at the auction house!

One thought for MMO developers: Sure, put in a soundtrack for the game, but also allow the player to set playlists of their own MP3s (or whatever format might be useful) for different purposes. Maybe three lists: An 'action' playlist for fights and such, a 'suspense' playlist for, for example in a mission or other dangerous area, but not in a fight right now, and a 'quiet' playlist for when you're in a safe area. Maybe even with the ability to add playlists that fit certain activities. Then, as each playlist's conditions are fulfilled, just play them random/repeat through the game's usual sound system, which is more than likely MP3-based, anyway. A reader for a bunch of widely used playlist formats should not be rocket science (speaking as a programmer and software developer myself, here).

Now, this here will be my very first post..but I've been lurking for quite the long time now..heehee..But anyways, back to the point..

It isn't an MMORPG, in fact its an RTS I'm going to talk about..but Total Annihilation, that godsend of a game from Chris Taylor [the maker of Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander (which is a spiritual successor to Total Annihilation)] Happens to have just that feature you are talking about, even though its extremely ancient..

It has a playlist that alters depending on what is going on, and you can choose which of their songs fit into each type of action, or use their default. I do not think it will play your own music though. The soundtrack in Total Annihilation was absolutely epic, blowing away the other games of the time [In my opinion, of course]..The sad fact though, was that it was so HARD to make the music WORK..if you had two cd drives, chances are it would refuse to play the music..
