I never had any ping issue when playing on the American servers, and I'm Eu. Sure it was higher. How does the trial work? Is that a us server? Because if it is, you could check out the trial and see the ping, if you haven't tried it. But if you already know its bad, I dunno :\

It really sucks when there is "no room" for speccing the way you want and exploring. But come on, lighten up, thats a few players out of quite a few thousands? No need to panic just yet.

Even better though, it would give Vanguard some life for a little bit.  Most that play it like it but the low population hurts enjoyment of the game. At least this way people could experience some of the amazing dungeons theyve created.

I like this thought, and I find it incredible rude and arrogant by the amount of people who want a game to die. Just because you don't like it, and you think its a complete failure, doesn't mean everyone else should think that way. What is the problem with a small amount of people enjoying the game and trying to keep it going? What many people here basically are saying - niche games shouldn't exist, which is just horrible. If anything you should admire the dedication, and it doesn't affect you in anyway if they try or not so why complain about it ?

I thought I had my last hoorah in vanguard, I have been thinking more and more of having another go, and this would be the perfect opportunity. So yes I'm in.

But I do understand a lot of the concerns and why many people are saying no, and I worry myself, but I'm naive and even if its highly unlikely this will have any affect, miracles do happen. And 15$ is not exactly a lot, and even with a low population I enjoy vanguard and could justify the 15$. Also I don't have this hatred for soe, but I still think they are doing much wrong though.

Oh what a dream it would be if a company like the ones who are owning istaria came along and was able to buy vanguard. That is my game dream, together with the old warhammer online would suddenly come alive again.

Maybe we should start a donation to buy vanguard instead ?

You actually might improve your performance by maxing out your settings.   Odd I know but if you switch on everything it tends to work better overall.  The game client doesn't follow normal logic so switch on grass, max out view distances etc and you may actually see an improvement.

Wow thats flawed thinking. I could turn around and say, just because one single guy(you) out there have a problem, suddenly the game full of latency and problems?  I never had any latency problems(that is a fact btw), so then it must be YOU who is the problem. No wrong it doesn't work like that and its not that simple. 

My performance increased with each patch, things only became better, like every mmorpg, things are somtimes rough in the start, but after a few months things usually picks up a lot if you have trouble. 

I'm sorry you had problems, and especially if its true you went through all that trouble, because thats pretty extreme. But you see how this works and how silly your statements are? Yes you are mad, but just because you had problems, doesn't mean the rest of the world will. And its the same about me, just because it works for me doesn't mean if works for everyone else, something in the middle.

You didn't read all did you? Beucase that is not the issue. We all know everquest and wow is similar or whatever, but its that the placement of the healthbar, map etc is IDENTICAL. Sure fps have healthbar, a map etc, but they are never in the exact same position or form. Try again.

 Right he did, and what he should have done also is come out in the very beginning and say he wasn't really doing a review of Rift, what he was doing was a video on how he felt Rift was just trying to steal WoW players. Because that is exactly what he did with his video, every other comment, start to finish. He didnt do a review of Rift at all, he did a video to make comparisons betwen the two games as a way to vindicate his existing belief.

He wasn't reviewing Rift. He also did come out and say in the description of the video that it is a first impressions video.

And "objective perception"? Watch gamespot reviews if you want that, not a first impressions video.

I dont get it.. people seem to be treating TB's video as if it was a negative thing, and yet all i got from it was positive regarding Rift.. am i misunderstanding something here.. or is it just that people are taking offence because its a WoW clone ?

 No no, his video is not a bad thing at all. I stated that in my first post. I also stated I didnt care for how he went in biased on it. The person above you there called his review a 'first impressions' video. That implies whomever is doing the review is going to give you thier 'first impressions' of the game AS they experience it. In this case, TB stated up front, before he ever started playing the game for the first time, before he had a first impressions of it, that the game was in fact just a copy of WoW and that he didnt really even want to do the video because he felt the game was a waste of time, since he already had WoW.

So it wasn't a first impressions review at all, it was a video to back up his already determined stand point. Granted once he started talking to Dave he did start to lighten up his original dislike of the game (and that dislike was there before he ever played it by his own admission). He did try a couple of times to subvert the coments Dave was saying though which appeared to be attempts to devalue the significance of the facts. Further emphasizing his dislike of the game.

Had TB tried to be objective, to actually try and do a review of Rift, to try to give us his first impressions instead of his second impressions based off his first impressions he made prior to actually trying Rift, then this review might have been a great one. Like I said earlier, I usually love TB's review and videos, this one I just felt he started all wrong and let his love of WoW and dislike of anything that might threaten WoW to get in his way.

There really is a TON of stuff in Rift TB missed just because he had blinders on when he did this review. He missed so much of the plus side to the soul system simply because he couldnt' get past the idea in his head that it was just like it is in WoW. And even when Dave tried to tell him about it, TB just blew it away as insignificant. Same with the raid rifts, and the tiered raiding content. And the tiered PvP content. Just like so many people who come in biased in advance are doing as well.

If you knew the guy, and his shows, you would know how much he critices blizzard and always appeals to them to do better. And how competition is a good thing, because it may rise the standard of the games. Sure he likes wow, but he made a name for himself on the Internet by criticising WOW, how can you possibly claim he is blind and just loves wow? Its almost funny, because its more or less the complete opposite of what you are proposing. Mind boggling really how you manage to miss like that - I know its dangerous to write this, like I know exactly what he likes and thinks, but he has always made himself clear about competition and all of wows faults. So its impossible to portray him in the way you are, its just factual wrong.. And I like rift, and don't hate a person just because I disagree, just to throw that out there.

Agreed, disgusting thread really. But also, I don't think we can call them trolls, because I think they just doesn't no any better, and are lazy and have done 0 research like I mentioned earlier. They are just clueless and have absolutely no idea what they should expect from this game. They fantasize about what they want the perfect mmorpg should be, then buy a random game, then gets insulted and rages over how bad it is because its not like their fantasy. Garbage.

I'm sick to death about hearing people say, but it just feels like the same old, and that I have done this many times before. You had the chance to the best the beta, ALL OF YOU, you must be pretty dumb to not try it, then a few days after just throw 50$ at them to try the again. Especially after so many well poor mmorpg releases. Or if you spent 5mins researching the game, YOU WOULD WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT. Its basically the same with a different wrapping, your own god damn fault for not realizing this. And how stupid is it to come to the forum and feel compltely surprised about the fact that a goat is a goat, and not a horse. Fine if you don't like the game, but please stop with the bullshit surprise, if you were not lazy and completely uncritical with your money spending you would have spent a few mins to research what exactly you are buying.

1: Claiming your opinion is fact

2: Crying about buying a game when you did no research at all, you had every opportunity to try out the beta. And its almost impossible to not know what the game is about if you have some interest in it. If you spent 5 mins researching you would know this. 

3: Blaming the hype, how mindless are you? You just follow everything and hope you'll like it too because everyone else does? Without ever looking into what it exactly is?

Its pretty clear what they are saying and what they are not saying. If you misunderstood and think that is bad management or whatever, well your own fault ain't it? Chances are no matter what or how they did it, this thread would still be here, with people complaining. Companies can never win, there is always an agenda, always a way to make them look bad. Not necessarily wrong but so god damn predictable and naive by the community.

I tried out eq a few weeks ago, wanted to get onboard the progression server train and experience this old gem. But it was too old for me, so I never got into it. There are several old games I can return and play, but I must have been playing it at their "prime" or else I seldom manage to play old games. 

What is surprising here is people surprised that eq is, well, OLD! I don't expect eq to be like todays mmorpg? Why would I ever think this way? Why would you ever play a game that clearly is one particular way, then complain when its not "input random new mmorpg here" ? Very confusing and silly thread imo. I don't jump into darkfall and expect pve and no pvp ?! So so dumb.

One more thing I think is vital(although its only a guess) is the attitude and mentality of the ones playing everquest nowadays. Its more about what can I do for you? Than what can he do for me, not crushing through the content asap, nor face paced everything and as little interaction as possible. The mentality was and is different "back" in everquest than modern mmorpgs - its a good guess anyway.

So incredible dumb, do you really need more than 1000 players in a game ? No. Ranking it and only counting the most played games on xfire or whatever, jeeeezes how silly can one be?!  The list is pretty abysmal for tv shows too, still there are plenty of quality shows around.

True enough, but this is nothing new and you really should know that tift brings very little new stuff to the table. They have never claimed too either, do your research man and don't be surprised when a fish is a fish. I don't mind more games like this, I just wish some bigger company would take a chance on something more different, we are pretty much stuck with indie companies doing that.

Also I wish people would stop making thread about this subject, acting all surprised about the game, claiming how horrible it is that its nothing knew. We all know it, or should know it! Why on earth would this surprise anyone?!

Its basically the same in any open beta, I've seen it so many times before. the chat goes crazy with comparasing and rude chat, but not everyone will be around when the game launches. So you can be sure it won't be as bad then.

Come on people, stop saying rift is nothing new like its a surprise, we all know this, and the game is hardly trying to suggest otherwise? I thought most people knew that by now, do your research :) The community is worrying no doubt, but this is open beta, and I have to admit that this is pretty damn common. But how many of them will actually buy and play the game? Not everyone thats for sure, so its pretty hard to make a conclusion out of a bunch of people who most likely won't even play after the beta? That said I think it won't be a great community nonetheless, lots of wow players and "like" minded players will jumo on this and there's quite a few bad apples there. Yes there are bad apples everywhere, but the new generation takes it to a another level.

I kinda agree with the op, but always when people say this game should just die, and no we don't need a game like that, not enough players bla bla. I say there should be space for both type of games, while the go play a console game if you only have a few mins is a decent and true statement, we could and should always have a few mmorpgs that works that way too. The problem is wow is the big leading game which many other company follows, and the big majority of new players that have come across the last few years are used to this and expect it. So what does that mean for us who have played a longer time and want slower travel, interaction and something slightly different than most mmrogps nowadays? Well we are in the minority unfortunately and few company wants to please us, because thats not where the money is. I fear we are "stuck" with indie companies in the future. And while they may make excellent games, they will never have the resources and support of a big company. Sucks, really sucks, but I'm not really sure what can be done? Wow has been a great game, but it has changed the genre and mentality of the a lot of people, to an absurd and bad standard imo.

What essential was "our" genre and home, has been taken over by someone else with a different mindset, and we miss our home. A bit silly statement, but its kinda how it is and how I feel - well at least for me. I am not that close minded, but it just a bit sad to think how things have changed, because there should be space for all kind of games, but there hardly is. Which is not only the players fault.

For many yes, but it kinda depends on what you are looking for, while I reckon most would want a home for years and years, sometimes its not what everyone wants. Yes yes I hate abandoning my character that I spent a year or more on, like how can I let go of something I put so much time into? I'm trying to work around that feeling or logic, because its silly and it doesn't take into account how bored you potential could be of the game - I think that feeling has brought me back to a few games then just regretting it.  I liked his(carrie01) post which highlights many of the important parts, both positive and negative.
