I simply cannot wait all the New School MMO Gamers who started on WoW call the game stupid because they can't move around buttons on their bars and can't find their "abilities" or spells. This will be something to look forward to. |

SWTOR- Getting way overhyped..
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/14/10 12:27:03 PM
It's pretty obvious why the game is being "overhyped". It's a BioWare title, period, the end, enough said. Name one BioWare title that failed to deliver, did not sell, needed launch patches, was not generally fun, and was not overhyped. Personally, I really don't see any. They're that good and I believe the "overhype" is well deserved and you will get your money's worth. |

Hi everyone, my name is Kirzan. I just bought the Vana'diel collection and am downloading it right now. I would like to know if anyone out there still has a fun LS on a relatively well populated server with helpful players I could hang out in. I've played a bit of FFXI before and didn't get hooked, now I'm just bored of every other MMO out there. Send me a PM! Kirzan |

I don't consider Old School WoW as Old School so much. The game still has the same fundamentals and whilst being much easier than it was, it still is, the same thing. For the "fun" part.... Waiting on 12 people for a raid cause you "only" had 28 was a pain. But the actual fights were a lot more unique. Now it's really just Trash, Boss, Trash, Boss, Trash, Boss, yay upgrades. THE MOMENT I heard people actually successfully PUGGED raids... I thought to myself: This game is garbage now. I mean really, joining a guild and making e-buddies is a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig aspect of any MMO... you don't even have to do that anymore. And yeah I know Ulduar 25 can't really be successfully pugged but hey... that's 1 instance / many. If you REALLY wanna compare current to old school, look at raped games like EQ1 and SWG. Those got the big saucage. |

Yeah I'd like to see that too, and the history of MMO acronyms, where they started. Each acronym with their respectful game. Because I know a lot started in games even before UO, some in UO, but some acronyms don't work in UO and I'd like to know all that. |

I know a good candidate for #5 : Blizzard's next MMO. And for the WoW Clone thing, yeah that is pretty pathetic, used by people who were born after at least 1993. |

I love those "I only play 2 hours a day" comments... really. WHY ARE YOU PLAYING THEN? Seriously! MMORPG's, from the beginning, were made for the "hardcore", but then again, I still don't get it. I've played with people who "play 2 hours a week" and that 2 hours was spent in a raid with us, doing fine. There are 2 types of games in this world, MMORPGs... and the rest. The rest (specially nowadays...) are made for the casual gamers, hell they're the reasons why (opinion) they all suck now. Take a good look at today's gaming: Games come out full priced, 59.99 plus taxes, and have a 10 hours lifespan. I think it is CLEARLY obvious that these games are made for people like you, the casual. This is like saying: I'll learn guitar and be real good! then train 2 hours a week and wonder why you suck at it. If you don't like shooters, don't play shooters. If you don't have TIME, don't play MMORPGs because really... that's all you need sadly. |

WoW really doesn't need to tune down ANYTHING. And while I agree with you that blizz made the right choice by "listening to its community" and make a "hard raid" ... the reason why this game is questionable is because blizz listens to its community TOO MUCH. All the nerfs, all the buffs, I have not seen one MMO apart from WoW that has at least one class change in every single patch. But that argument should go to PvE VS PvP threads, because we all know, this game is horribly imbalanced and changes happen exclusively because they try the impossible, balance both together. Look a while back, look when Naxx first came out... it was hard, it was tough, players ADAPTED, stepped their game up, and learned through hard work how to beat it. The outcome, you get vets who have had their memories refreshed on what it is to truly play a challenging encounter, and you get all that "mid-range noob" players who finally had their switch turned on and realized that no, this isn't wailing caverns all over again like it's been for the rest of the entire game. Heroics were brought in, maybe it's their version of "challenge" ... I think not. At first they were, hell I remember having a harder time in Heroics Shattered Halls than Heroic WOTLK Naxx. Everything you can PUG succesfully without too many deaths, is I'm afraid, way too easy. WoW NEEDS more Ulduar, WoW NEEDS an entire expansion with encounters as "hard" as the ones seen in Ulduar, WoW needs to step its own game up :P Raids are meant to be hard, where coordination, communication, and player skill/presence of mind is required. Not some gathering where you just press 1 and 2, stand still, and talk about your evening on Vent, leave that to 5-mans. |

It's been like this since 2004, when the champion of MMORPGs came out, when no other dev/title could pull off what this one MMORPG did... get them off the other games to come on their game and keep them there. You see it's very funny... I don't really wanna give credit to Blizzard because I have some gripes but when you look at other games (which I have tried and tried to play) you just can't get away from the fact that: Blizzard gets the job done. But why? Simply because they don't go around months and months before the release of a product to advertise the crap out of the "amazing features" while only showing the candy. Most MMORPGs of 2004-2009 have failed because of technical issues. Everyone on every forum I have seen on AoC, for instance, was banishing this game from their mind because of the technical issues... you just couldn't play this game right it was way too bugged for way too many people. We're not in 1997 anymore, people could live through EverQuest bugs... why? Because the game was special, unique, if you wanted to quit because you weren't satisfied... but still wanted a 3d experience, you couldn't... there was nothing else. People now want end products as advertised and sadly, devs will do anything to show all the "GREAT STUFF" this title has to offer yet in their minds, wishing to god it "doesn't crash like it usually does". And what happens, the "low class" customer actually gets awful end product or a release candidate and SOMETIMES, a BETA... This is why I will always respect Blizzard, they made their money. They don't need to beg over a publisher that we all know ;) WILL rush them into release. Trust me I know how hard it is to a publisher to release late but hell, if the title looks promising, and people are getting hyped, what's the difference in offering a crappy build now or later really? If the hype's killed now or later, you'll still quit. I enjoyed reading this article and hope I am not too off-topic. Mike.

Hey all! I really wouldn't mind jumping back into EQ2 right now. The only gripe I have with this is that... will that person that invites me actually make me benefit from the bonus? I don't know the person and either does he/she. As tempting as it seems this person probably doesn't really care about mentoring another lowbie for an XP bonus...? Anyway here are what I'd like: - US Server with a relatively good amount of players. - If possible, a nice family/friendly guild that wouldn't mind carrying a level 1 (Not for long) in their ranks. Also, I would like to know if you can use an existing account... who knows maybe that person will be on the same server as I was! I'll be patiently waiting for feedback, I wanna play this with people who will eventually become friends, I have low standards and I love having fun with experienced players! Hit me up! |

World of Warcraft: Death Knight Tanking Talents
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/14/09 10:20:32 PM
Well, I'm used to guides like this on this site, I just read them to have a small laugh before going to bed. Guides should not be made (On the website that bares the name of the genre.com) by casual players who did not do what's REALLY important, what you'll REALLY do in this game, Raiding. Btw, frost tanks are not "Versatile" they're "Survivalists" they're just good for raid buffs and very nice clickies, but they're the worst DK spec for DPS/Leveling, a deep Frost DK will ALWAYS be beaten by a deep Unholy in DPS... not so "Versatile" eh? :P |

Biggest Disappointment in mmorpgs of 2008 poll!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/27/08 4:58:30 PM
So which mmorpg this year offered us the biggest disappointments? Age of Conan
Was it AoC with its massive overhype? Yes Was it Hellgate london shutting down? Who cared about this non-MMORPG FPS. Was it Tabula Rasa dying on us? The game was so bad, it died on release. The hype was low, big name, no content. Was it Warhammer online not cutting out to be as big as everyone imagined? Warhammer Online is 2008's stand-alone MMORPG. This excludes expansions of other titles. It's the only one that wasn't made by monkeys. EQ1 & EQ2 getting ruined by the addition of the cash shop? Cash Shops didn't ruin EQ1 and 2. No one plays on Bazaar for EQ2, and buying plat has been there and not monitored for years in EQ1. It was never an issue, EQ1's economy is BS anyway.
To you which was the biggest disappointment in mmorpgs of the year?
Age of Conan, this one only, because the others didn't even get me to play past lvl 10. AoC got me past lvl 20, so it was better than others. There were seriously no big release this year... like the past 3 years. As long as WoW is live, no MMO will succeed. WoW monopolizes the market of subscribers, if it's alive, your game's gonna die. |

World of Warcraft: Guide - Preparing to Raid
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/09/08 7:10:04 AM
That's totally what I meant when I said Kara was ahead of Heroics. Yeah it's hard to get intelligent people together and get them to do what they have to do. But that's about it. See it this way: Lower raids are coordination, good timing, some gear. Heroics are RAW stats, RAW damage... the bosses aren't hard.... they HIT hard. (actually the thrash is harder). |

World of Warcraft: Guide - Preparing to Raid
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/08/08 5:16:08 PM
Nice guide, did it really take 2 years to release though?! Really... this preparation to raid will be void in november. So why would someone take on that time consuming quest of "getting prepared for raids" (Even though Kara and Gruul's can be done with many greens equipped) when the quest rewards of WotLK will be better than at least T4. Please tell me. |

All you said sounds like a THOUSAND of fun, really I think it would be AMAZING to do all that. Actually... not really, you see I only named 1 thing but pretty much everything about EVE is bad. MMORPGs are already boring as it is (in terms of gameplay)... They don't compare to Shooters. So an MMORPG... where you don't nearly fully control your ship (a.k.a. double click there and you'll go there) is ridiculous! Why can't the controls be more arcade like JTL or Freelancer.... Why is this game made for old timers who can't deal with doing more than 1 thing at once?!!?!?!?!?! |
|
|
Game would be nice, if I didn't have to pay monthly to learn skills by waiting. You have to "wait" about 8 months to get the good stuff... and what I hate is that there's no real way to make it faster... not skill... not knowledge of the game... because it's timer based. You don't jump straight into the action, it takes a lot of time. |

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes: More Accounts Reactivated
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/01/08 9:04:01 PM
It's not a starting zone and 1000 bug fixes that will make me waste 20gb of monthly bandwidth... what are they thinking. People just started Warhammer... you think they gonna go back to the worst flop in pay per month MMORPGs? And, 1000 bugs... this game easily had over 10 000 bugs. 1000 bugs is like 3 starting zones. Anyone who tried it again and had that amazing memory leak and interface fuck can tell me if they fixed THAT?! :P |

World of Warcraft: PvE to PvP transfers Available
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/13/08 9:51:29 PM
It doesn't matter, what do you do at 70? WORLD PVP?! yeah maybe when 2 guilds are waiting at the stone of an instance for a 25-man... but PvP servers are purely based on grieving. PvP Servers in WoW are meaningless, no one World PvP's anymore... why? WoW gives you the habit of getting fast and nice rewards for nearly no work, and something so unrewarding as World PvP gets left out.... Face it, you can ALWAYS do something more rewarding than World PvP. |
