It's pretty fun for the first 20 or 30 levels.  After that, it gets really old and loses the charm.  Still worth one playthrough for the story though.  Just don't expect it to offer a traditional MMO long-term endgame, where the best stuff is at max level.

That's where I lost interest in this game after a while, when at end level you run into a brick wall, either do the daily grind to gear up or start a alt.

SWTOR is a themepark mmo, if it was a real sandbox with those instances as extra features I would definately still play it.

Yeah sandbox fans this game is not for them.  Themepark this is one of the better ones out.

LOTRO is a theme park, and it has fishing, housing, mounts, decent crafting, hunt down creatures for resources - pretty much everything that I listed in my previous post.

SWTOR is not even a themepark - It is like Mass Effect with multiplayer - a game with a story that you play through

I haven't played Mass Effect. But If I get the reference, I am finding this to be true. So far, I am enjoying the story.  Although, I thought I wanted to play a dual pistol Smuggler, I am finding the Sith Warrior to be more enjoyable.

But yeah, overall, It feels like it want's to be an MMORPG, but the game cannot get out of it's own way to be one. Still, it doesn't necessarily have to be one either. And that doesn't mean I dislike the game or that it's not worth playing....or even subbing. So far it has been. (10 levels worth anyway)

Yeah no offense but the single player talking point is ridiculous.  Yes it has similarities but in mass effect can you do the following?

Craft items and sell in the GTN? Nope

Trade items with other players ? Nope

Join other players for heroic areas? Nope

join other players for FP? Nope

play with 15 others and run an ops ? Nope

do pvp? Nope

need others to help track down parks for companions ? Nope

group up for world bosses? Nope

group up for datacrons? Nope

group for daily areas? Nope

ect ect

so how is this like mass effect ?

You misunderstand, I did not say the game was like Mass Effect. I said the game was like Mass Effect with multiplayer. All the bits you listed are "with multiplayer" part

SWTOR does not really enhance on the theme park MMO, beacuse other theme park MMOs still have more features than SWTOR, but enhances the single player game, and even Dead Space allows you to group up, and trade items with other players. Even Fallout 3 has player housing.

For most people the game is worth levelling up a couple of characters through Imperial and then Repubic (or vice versa) but after that when going through the same quests on a Imperial or Republic character it starts to get boring. There is then the flashpoints, operations, warzones but you can only play the same amount of content each time before it gets boring, like what that poster said who stopped playing. Things like fishing and player housing keep people playing the game longer, the more variety of stuff to do in game then the longer people will play, and get less bored. In SWG I got bored of certain features but then there was something else to do, and by the time I played through all the features I was no longer bored of the first feature that I got bored with, so it kept me playing constantly, and i did not quit the game at all, and played solidly for 8.5 years

When I said about the game not having mounts, I meant creature mounts. In SWG it was cool to ride a bantha or a dewback, as sand people / stormtroopers did in  A New Hope or a varactyl as Obi Wan did in Revenge of the Sith. Not having creature mounts steals gameplay from the game

At least they are now adding Player Housing, it is the first thing they have done right, to ensure the longevity of the game. Just keeping to adding Flashpoints etc as extra content, just make it like a single player game (with multiplayer) having extra DLC - just adding more of the same content, and not expanding the game with more variety. variety is the spice of life!

Just a FYI, there are creature mounts in TOR, dewbacks, varactyls, tauntauns, pretty soon some will be riding rancors.  no banthas yet as far as I know, but, there ya go, creature mounts.

You could do whatever you wanted to do in SWG. It was a complete experience like no other.

SWTOR is nothing compared to SWG. It's bland with almost no freedom at all. If it wasn't for the SW IP, it wold probably have been shut down already.

Do I get ALL of the items or is it a random selection when I buy 1 pack?

I've seen some packs have 24x on them. What does that mean?

Game designers need to come up with new ideas when it comes to advancing your character, I have got so sick of the normal MMO grind, more and more levels added, quests holding me in zones, when i just want to move on to another zone.. I have went back to Ultima Online.. where you can explore the whole world w/o having to worry about mobs being over level.. NO MORE LEVELS!!!

also tired of the level and quest grind.

I want a themepark MMO without the on rails levels, or zone levels.

I want to go where I want, and play content in whatever order I want to.

There was a wonderful MMO like that: SWG ( pre cu )

Red = dead.

Gank or be ganked.

2 simple rules to remember and everything will be fine.

Why do people feel the need to speak their mind about a game calling it complete crap.  These people have issues either a game is completely good or completely bad and there is no middle ground.  I have kicked quite a few people out my guilds for puking nonsense about another mmo in the guild chat.  If they are gonna speak about a game they should at least be honest about it.  I have been playing games for longer then I would like to admit and although I am not a fan of some games I do see the good they have.  Every game has good sides and every game has bad sides.  There will never be a perfect game.  The trick is can you live with the imperfections or not.

So after a process of asking questions and seeing if they are reasonable people i'll make an educated decision and it has happened that people have been removed from the guild because I felt they would do nothing but harm the other players.  When a player is that close minded it creates a huge disturbance.  As I said before and a lot of readers are not seeing NO GAME IS COMPLETE CRAP AND NO GAME IS PERFECT.

Maybe this will stop the conservatives from harassing me for kicking idiots out of my guilds.

Judging by your actions, one could argue that you're the close minded one.

Everything from SWG pre cu.

All great ideas.

If you judge by the new armours in the Jockey starfighter pack.

I think they look GREAT!!

When is the pack available for purchase???

I couldn't find it in Cartel market yesterday. :-(

Don't like it.

Bland, mediocre and doesn't have chat bubbles.

I go for full lightning. I use that Grevious-look-alike dude and spam the lightning without CD. Sometimes I also heal my comp while he does the fighting while I try not to get bored to death.

I've been staying away from all the beta's with this game, have never tried it and I refuse to. I don't want to spoil anything.  I'm looking for a well crafted journey in a well crafted world. I want the RPG put back into my MMO.

I'm hoping this is what ESO deliver's

It definitely puts the RPG back into MMORPG.  I've been playing many of the AAA MMO titles over the years and this one is great with storytelling and lore.  There are other positive aspects and negative aspects that are too long to go into.  But I can tell you the lore here is amazing.  Its right below Warhammer lore.  Its Fantasy at its best.  Just playing the beta would probably confirm that you are going to want to buy it hehe.

I can see how people could call it a single player MMO if they look at it from a certain angle, but then again, many of the AAA MMO's in the past X years have been soloable to level cap due to insane solo quest exp or public events etc, so I won't delve into the co-op part of this game too much if that isn't what you want to hear about.

It's not Skyrim & online but close (there are players running around etc so you don't get that out in the wilderness feel 100% of the time)

You can't RP without chat bubbles in a MMO. RPing in chat channels = LAME!

In a single player RPG, sure you can but the last ime I looked, TESO is a MMO....

BUT PLEASE NO ARENAS OR BGS!!!!!  You know how games start out cool, but then sell out (cough cough Archeage).  Please ESO don't sell out to the FPS shooter crowd and give arenas and bgs where players whack each other with sticks for points!!!

Keep the action funneled into RvR and/or the DF like dungeon (soon to be released I hope)

Don't see why the hate on for bgs/arenas. The great thing about bgs is its optional - you don't like it don't queue for it. And I wish ESO has that.

I like it because its a nice change of pace. Granted my main pvp focus will be AvA but after doing that or pveing for 3 hrs it's a nice change of pace to drop into a bg. Its all about offering the player more options.

Quit whining about something you wont step foot in anyway. Ofc doesnt surprise me this coming from someone who thinks Wildstar is a MMOFPS.

The problem with instanced pvp in an MMO is pretty obvious.  It's basically the path of least resistance when it comes to progression in PvP.  And because people flow down the path of least resistance, it only ends up sucking the energy out of world pvp.  This is how WoW pretty much killed open world pvp early on before the bg days.  We used to have some great open world fights in certain areas of the world until WoW opened the floodgates to these lame "capture the flag" bgs that made pvp progression far easier and more efficient.  The end result was a dead open world pvp.

What I don't get is why certain people choose to play an MMO pvp like it's a single player PvP?  If that's your preference, why not just stick with single player games that have those internet type lobbies for sports like competition?  It would certainly be cheaper in the long run since you wouldn't have to pay a monthly subscription.

Thank you sir for this post.  Your reply pretty much sums up why BGs and Arenas suck the life out of RvR.  I think I might make this my signature.  People say don't play if it bothers you, but as you said above, you really pinpointed exactly the problem.

SWG had great open world PvP.

Who's Angry Joe?

You won't miss out on anything. Game is mediocre at best.

Sorry to hear that customer service is so incompetent. Not suprising though since I've never come across one that isn't.

Would you do it? New game, instant max for an extra fee? Skip all the questing and get right to the good stuff?

60$ for instant ESO/Wildstar max level? Yeah?

Of course I would. Who in their right mind wouldn't??

Every MMO start at level cap so why torture yourself with mindless and pointless grinding.

I really hope we get the chance to buy a macx level toon in every future MMO.

If not, there's always the exellent powerleveling services available through different companies.

I've used it many times.

While people loved the original SWG it was a heavily heavily flawed game that people were willing to overlook. If NGE had never come out the game would have probably died even faster than it did.

I highly doubt that. Too bad the money invested in the CU and NGE never was used to develop and fix the original SWG. It would have been an awesome game.

There were no 'dailys' in the real SWG (pre cu).

You just logged in and had fun doing whatever you wanted to do.

A superior MMO compared to the mediocre ones we have to tolerate nowadays.

I'd recommend playing SWG pre cu emulator. Nothing linear about that wonderful MMO. :-)

They are boring and limit you as a player in expressing yourself through your toon.

There is no freedom to be creative.

Immersion is lacking.

Interdependency is lacking.

Social aspect is lacking.

The feeling of a virtual world rather than an amusement park is overwhelming.

In short: they are not SWG.
