Got to be FFIV by far, STO comes close but only later after release when the Klingon's  lost any hope to be a playable race.

I would think that taking longer would be a good thing, considering how FFXX turned out. They mad e the right move in holding off unlike many other "hip games" did and it shows in sailes  and subs.

Lastly the thread title implies that mmorpg's as a genre is no longer growing and I just don't know how true that is.  If it isn't growing then I guess I would owe you an apology but if it is then as another responder said this thread should be title "what I find lacking".

Do MMOs really grow now? 2/3 of Wows players are Chinese, they came in from games like perfect world. The western players of it have been cut in half since the last 2-3 years. That is something like 4 million players, some of them have moved to F2P games like DDO, LOTRO and RoM and a few to other games but to me it seems like the number of MMO players are the same as 4 years ago, or even somewhat less.

If the genre is still growing, where is all the new players that should have joined now? Wow did make the genre a lot bigger a few years ago but nothing else have came with the same effect since then, most MMO players I run into have played another game before.

My point is that if the genre is growing it is a lot slower now. I don't however agree with OP that going back to DaoC or EQ is the right way either, we need something new to get more players. But I do think he is on to something with PvP, it needs to be alot more fun.

Do you have any reference to such statements as "2/3 of Wows players are Chinese, they came in from games like perfect world. The western players of it have been cut in half since the last 2-3 years." ? I did not think so.

Pure opinions, and you know what they say about opinions. To think that any upset player who can speak for the amount of subs WoW has is...another opinion.

Ok, have not played WoW for sometime now but, gona follow the Cat thing and see for myself, flame on. While looking over the information on Cat, I did not see a 30 day play deal. So, you get 30 days play time with purchuse of Cat or not?

Well, its 13 hrs downtime or you can macro in DF for the same time and....get one year closer to the "big girls" which will be one year ahead of you when you get to where they are now.

Anyone who says this game isn't afk macroing hasn't played or played it long.  In every NPC or player city I have been you will find people afk macroing spells, simming, running into walls, or a group melee/spell macro.

All those talking about enjoying the ride and all that crap must enjoy hearing that ganking noise an awful lot along the way eh?

Talking about the PVE in this game is about the worse I have seen.  The mobs are neat and the AI can be interesting but there isn't a huge variety and any thing worth a damn is going to get  you ganked in less then an hour.  The loot tables are a joke.  The only thing  you kill mobs for are the skill gains, the skinning, and cash.  The quests are nothing more then a Kill X mobs 100+ times for anything decent.  100+ times can be a real chore when there may only be a one spawn in your area of that mob and it has 2-4 mobs on a seven minute timer.  Someone mentioned the dragon or anything that takes a large group with a good reward well let me tell you people just sit around waiting for you to kill it so they can come along and kill you when you are done doing the work so you had damn well better be ready to kill them or there goes all that loot you worked for.

To be competitive and not get ganked on your solo and/or group grinding you need 400hp, 80+ for all base stats (strength, INT, VIT, etc.) excluding dex, archmage (requires 75+ INT), maxed melee and bow, and a hell of a lot of magic (not just high intensify you also need every damn spell to 75+ to be of much use).

Did I mention gear?  If you are a higher end player then you will need a corbra staff (enchanted) , R60 weapon (usually GA or GS enchangted),  and some infernal or better, all keened and what not.  Typical gear set of a VET costs probably 75k+ that can be lost in a heart beat so you better have atleast 5 mil in the bank.

But if you don't NEED to be competitive have find grinding the low level mobs all days near a Tower unclanned

OR

enjoy your noise

RRRRRREEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKK

and the trip to the bind stone to prepare for the 5 minutes or regearing and trip backed to you corpse to recovers the crap gear that will be left.

AND you will be enjoying that A LOT.

Did I mentioned that AV has made the game A LOT harder to grind since it started?  You used to get skill gains from hitting each other and if you hit 10 people at once you got 10x the gain (same with mobs) (this is what made the phrase Blood Wall) now you kill one skill gain no matter how many you hit.  Then there was the Hivken that in Alfar lands had about 30 people on it all day non stop casting and shooting arrows for dex/vit gains.

But they gave you a few extra HPs I am sure that helps hehe.

They still dong bloodwalls and macin it? So, instead of gankin noobs in starter towns,  the "elite" gank those going after the rara mobs? DF...go figure.

How it comes back will be watched closely, I hope it comes back without the problems that it came with. The hacks/macs/cracks will bury this game if not delt with. Nevertheless, an exciting moment for many fans and one that I will watch for.

Hey OP, your mommy know you talk like that?

Riight.

Looks nice! Just wish that the women in this game weren't skinny girls with giant weapons and barely any clothes :s

I don't think she is skinny, but she could use some bigger...boots.

I do not  know,  I continue to enjoy the game due to several reasons. Most importantly, the community is more...mature in behavior, deeds and words. I like the ability of being able to change my toon without re-rolling and perhaps the feeling of accomplishment when I locate new area's to kill creters and such. The cap level on skills allows me to specialise my toons and the area can acually change with houses that can be used for manufacturing. To WoW this game would be a great loss which brings in the arrument of an AH. For me, the importance of having a well rounded clan class wise makes all the little problems go away.

My complaint is pretty standard, I do not care about potential because I pay real time money and thus...expect real time products. I do not buy the "its an independent company" gig, if they charge AAA price, better be able to produce AAA product. Unless I can pay potential money, everything else is BS.

Bottom line for me is that  I like being part of my clan (Militarygamers or MG) who also enjoys playing the game as what it is. We are not a big clan but damn, when we get to working as a unit we have a ball and that my friends is what a game should provide.  The review does address issues which is important to bring out for those who are seeking a WoW experience but for me the game provides what I seek.

As I look back on the year of mmorgp's it does seem very...sad that such a list is implimented. Yet, these games have provided hours of serious entertainmernt on this site.  Gloabal Agenda going F2P within a year,  the crash and burn of FF14 and the loss of trekies in STO have filled my evenigns with humor and discussions. What is left? Dare I say it, WoW expansion Dec, 7...times be hard in MMORPG land.

A good review and one that could have been extended on for pages. I like the "group up with this game" deal where feeling as if the game is coming out of beta and growing with is reminds me of Eve when it first came out.

On the postive side, Patches come out often sometimes leading to the negative side, patches create new problems. However, those problems are addressed fastly. It is a give and  take game that has me afixed with the direction it is going. The political status of the map can and is changed by power  and by diplomacy...I like that.

NO, wait, don't leave yet, the UI patch just came out and it is...amazing lol. Thats right boys and girls, like we told you all is well and more patches will come. Life is good.

I do not know, at least for me the hype is always overt yet, questioned. I read the information of what it will do, how it will do it and when it does it. If a game says "stunning views" I expect that, if the game says "engaging story lines" they beter produce, if the game says, "min. reqirements" it better run. If game XXX does not provide what it says it will provide then, "someone is BSing the buyer". In short, players have the right and obligation to complain and report if the reviewer says "it is there" and in fact...it is not. If  "it" is written and reported and "it" is not there then someone is saying "it" for some reason....money? Or is there some other reason why "it" may be reported? You make the call.

Cant beat em??? Join em.

Using the OP logic, may as well go all the way. If your toon dies in game...it dies. Start over and go again. Can you imagine the impact on games? No more kiddles bragin that they did a million runs and got the OP gear, no more mass ganks in sandbox games and the community may even be more...mature. Just a thought.

well this should be interesting.
