I will make this short, I do not mind growing with an indy game with a few issues but, the same issues with DF and MO will surely do me in and cost your hard earned tax dollar (retired military). So shipmates, here are my questions.
Can I solo an survive
Where can I find a manual for this complex game
Is download instal a pain
Is cancelling a chore
Can I expect mac, hack galores

I have never been so frazled about a game in my life, just do not want to lose money with this one. I know this is not the recruiting fourm but, I would be interested in a group with mature adults, Ok, mature as in no hack macs cracks. I can TS vent or work most voice programs and can play 6-10 hrs a day if the need is there (hot wife with good job and a pention).

Hello Seabeast,

I'll start off from saying, if you really want a sandbox game that is unlike any other out there, then this is the one for you.

Its unique, it has alot of ambitious plans for the future, and as far as sandbox type mmo's go, this is already a much better designed game than most sandbox's out there.

I would go as far to say that this is going to be one of the games that other mmo's need to keep a close eye on.

This isn't to say its not without bugs and issues, sure it has some problems and a few bugs here and there, but what I like about this game, is that the developers seem to always keep constant communication between them and the community.

The developers also seem to be the kind that will work endless hours and through all days of the week to get things corrected and fixed. I would say 'yeah yeah... how long is that type of relentless attitude going remain' But honestly this game has been in development for years now, and the small development team seem to keep on going.

Like a Energizer Bunny!

As for your questions...

Can I solo an survive - Yes ofcourse, It is hard however but it is very doable. Watch my ' A Day in the Life of Saintbob'.
Where can I find a manual for this complex game - http://www.xsyon.com/install/Xsyon_Manual.pdf - I think its going through some changes at the moment, I remember someone official making a post about it.
Is download instal a pain - Nope not at all, just create an account follow the instructions on how to download the installer, once installed, patch. and then Done.
Is cancelling a chore - Nope, not that I know of, although i have not used this feature yet, but I beleive its as easy as pressing a button.
Can I expect mac, hack galores - Not as much as some of the Trolls seem to give the impression of... Sure there are people out there that do macro / bot, but the GuideTeam have made a few posts in the past to reassure the community that all players suspected and reported are investigated and dealt with. This may not be everyones experience with the Guide Team in regards to this issue, but how many games do you know of that will actively keep you up to date with the progress of a complaint of this nature?

Final words - I think personally this game is too much of a good thing to not give a go... Its very much worth the $40 (£30 give or take) even if you only play it for 6months. (side note: I just spent £40 on Dragon Age Origins, for it to only last me 6 hours of gameplay), you will deffinetly get alot more than 6 hours of gameplay with this game!

As for recruiting or joining a tribe, goto the official xsyon forums and goto the Tribe recruitment thread, im sure you might be able to find something to your liking there.

Hope I have helped?

Thanks ST.B, I broke down, payed up and watching video's.  Still playing with the ability to get the game screen bigger and shifting to its own window. I'll keep you informed.

The driving was atrocious. I hope to god it's fixed up in Reloaded.

It was nothing like GTA style, free driving. It felt like you were driving on-rails, and if you swerved slightly off those rails the game code/lag would cause you to completely lose control. It wasn't enjoyable to drive/chase, it was a chore and required way too much concentration. It was simply frustrating and restricted. I think client-side it probably worked for RTW, but when you're travelling at a speed of 150ms and up through their server, it completely fell apart.

Raised the issue multiple times during the beta, was told it would 'be better' on launch, never improved. I hope its better in APB 2.0.

NAw, the fail reason for me was the hacks aimbot, yada yada. However, fixin the car issue may inprove the game.

if you'd have stayed up for 2 days reading novels instead, would you have gotten a Reader's Hangover?

it's an invalid argument. you stood up for 2 days and happened to be playing games in them. You got the hangover from staying up not from playing games.

I got the Student's hangover during Finals week one year. true story. I had finals spcaed 5-6 hours apart across 3 days.  Before I started drinking. Then i got the real deal.

I did not know an argument was made...whats your point

Negative spin on gaming, probably.  Gaming gets a bad rap in the press and likely coining a phrase like "gaming hangover" got him a bit defensive, but I could see how that could be weaponized in a war of words by policitians and angry parents.

Nevertheless, yes, I've overindulged in gaming (as well as reading, watching movies, partying with friends, playing hockey, mostly working really) and paid the price later on.  All enjoyable (even the work thing, if it yields progress)

 what he said.

I was trying to contain this before it erupts into the typical mess misinformation and people misinterpreting people misinterpreting people lead to since your original post was already slightly misleading.

"gamers hangover" suggests the game is to be blamed. even if you didnt mention this, its still suggested. Yet your symptoms were not caused by the game but by lack of sleep. Hence sleep deprivation is the culpit.

Nothing to contain but a enjoyable weekend, your concept of blaming games reminds me of the parents who blame McD's toys in happy meals for causing their kids to act out.  My point had no political agenda,   and was only met to relate a weekend that I perfer over other...activities.  Which is why I asked if anyone else had similar experiences in order to find out if the rest of the gaming community is off into gaming as much as I am.

Rewards:

  • No levels.  You have leveled enough in other games.
  • No skill gains.  No need of a grind.
  • Faction areas with safe zones to learn the game (with most of the world open, no faction influence, do your own thing, create your own faction, like EVE Online).  You have to learn the game somehow.
  • WoW Armory / WAR Realm war style stat tracking.  You know you want to gloat about how good you are, including PVE and crafting feats.
Risks:
  • Full loot
  • Free to attack anyone anywhere (except safe zones, possible faction switch that keeps you from accidentally attacking your side but not others from attacking you, a little theme park within sandbox).
  • The open zones are the only places to get the best stuff (resources, items, boss fights)
  • No single monetary system (barter system, multiple currency's).
  • Item based game (force you to go to open areas).  Not make it a grind but you do need that nice purple sword, right?

What other ideas would you have?  What rewards would draw you into a hardcore game?  If you are a PVE player from whatever other game what would be needed to draw you into a hardcore game?

What is your definiton of a hardcore game

Seems like you had a pretty good time if you ask me. I haven't experienced this personally, maybe because I stay away from alcohol as a choice in life, don't think I'm missing out on much really :)

The gaming hangover you say, sounds like a bit of an oddity.

I personally believe it's possible to have a gaming hangover without any alcohol in the picture though =P

I was not drinking, I am allergic to alcohol when I drink i break out real bad....in handcuffs, jail and in bed with ugly women I did not marry so I stay away from the juice myself.

There is a country song in there I'm sure.

I've had crazy gaming sessions like that. My gf enables me way too much.

Yea, my wife enables me too, then complains when I am forced to take a day off to recover.

The macro stuff has cut-down some, in the beginning one could walk on AFK swimmers from one island to the next without getting their feet wet. At least these days the players are trying to hide such activities by using area's that are not so overt. Nevertheless, it is true, you can increase your abilities by a macro-a-day plan which makes the game...difficult for the hardcore gamer.

So, I get a weekend off with no grandkids, no 'ol lady to interupt and turn-off the cell phone for two days of my favorite past-time...Pc games. Saturday morn finds me light headed and laughing at the screen while cursing at the evils within the game. Early Sunday morn finds my little room a mess with dishes, empty coke cans and food particles all over the floor. That evening the 'ol lady returns to find me barely able to keep my eyes open, incoherant, drooling on my keyboard while speaking a language that is unfimilar to her. She searchs the room for bottles of alcohol or/and the possibility of other such substance that would leave me in such a state of mind. As Monday morning rolls around, I ask her to call-in sick to work for me as it will take at least a day to recover.

Anyone else experience such an event...or am I the only one who has had the gaming hangover?

What? lol, as compared to...say... what do you think is untruelly the best MMORPG ever made or...what do you think is kind of, sort of, close to the best MMORPG ever made? LMAO

I got to share with you all, I pulled my subs and went to mount and blade warband. 2 months now and I just started the Mods players have made. This game awed me in the first battle I had where my mount was killed and I ran out of bolts when I discovered that I could pick up lose weaps and mounts on the feild of battle. The game makes me feel like Braveheart running around like a crazyman. Best $10 investment I ever made. No subs, No kiddies and No elves just some good 'ol basic gameplay. Steam online community is helpful and the forums has been a blast. If they had a co-op server on this one it would make my day. Funny how everyones awe is different.

Do not buy this game for pvp.  The warrior and rogue class are so out of balance it's mind blowing.

Any caster class is no comptetion once you hit 50. At 50 the Warriors become gods and can stunlock, range, fear and burst you into oblivion.

This is a pve game. It's pve is great. It's pvp is completely out of balance.

The CC is abundant and out of control. so many silences and stuns any cleric or mage is going to spend 33% of any Warfront with grayed out bars.

Whats the problem? everyone become wariors and rogues and then PvP will be the best balanced game online.

I do not know, I do appreciate accurate information and in this case I think that the OP is just a little...expressive in manner. I do understand the frustration as it remins me of darkfall where the launch was not really a launch from the start. I am one of those...players who does believe that if you charge the AAA price, your product should be AAA. UNless, the developer comes out and says, "hey, this game has problems and your gona pay AAA prices for a game that we are still working on". I have been caught in many such...disappointments in the MMORPG realm which is why I research and recommend the same to those who spend the money prior to purchuse.

The game remains on my radar and I hope the developers get it right soon however, by not...informing players that the game is not functional does make the OP's thread justified. Is he Trolling? Well, I do not feel so and would hate to to have to make a call as Admin here at MMORPG. One thing is certain, love it or hate it, the game is not ready.

I do not know, I really enjoyed DA:0 and Awakening but the demo felt as many posters have said. In short, for me, the problem s include lack of openness, excessive directional guidance and a different platform feeling to it. I will not be purchusing the game however, a freind of mine is just about done and I get the next rounds if I want.

I do not know about a server wipe however, they need to expand the world like Eve where higher level players can advance and grow instead of spending afk leveling and gang noobs.  A server wipe would be same sh it...different trip.

That is a shame, I gave up WoW on the second hack to avoid going through the process of getting it  fixed again. Now, Rift is getting hacked? Where have you gotten your information, not  that I question it, only to assure that I do not drop good money on top of bad.

I would sub again if they just fixed he lag, exploit issues and server crashs. From there everything else would develope but if they conintue to ignore game mech's then all the PvE context is useless.

The problem with a lot of indy games is that they have too many big ideas and not enough means to implement them.  I'm not sure what the issue would be with simply release a solid base-game to be built upon with future content and updates.  Instead, too many indy games get releaesd with half baked ideas and unfinished content that leaves players little else other than a world and a character model to move around within that world.
