Cancelled account = loss of free time.
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV 11/02/10 11:22:09 AM
Originally posted by choujiofkono Actually being able to kill the account entirely would be a welcome option for a few other MMOs I have played. With one account over a year after I cancelled I was the victim of a "billing error" in which they billed me for 6 months of service. Two other companies are constantly sending me spam about their terrible games even though I unsubscribed to both the game and their emails since every time they give me free time for a win back they reactivate all of the stupid newsletters. Having the option to axe all ties with a company can definitely benefit the consumer, but the difference between cancelling the service only and cancelling the entire account entirely must be made clear. |

Official "My account has been compromised..." Thread
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 9/29/10 4:18:28 PM
Originally posted by vanderghast Simple, most people use logins across multiple services and many services are not all that secure. Website databases are breached constantly just to acquire email address lists to sell for spamming and the login info is usually sold right along with it. Not to mention simple to aggregate information such as forums and such which list metric information for other users to see. An IT professional should realize how often people create their own security holes as well as the fact that people do not routinely update their passwords and such. Every month I have to force R&D employees to change their passwords and have it setup to reject previously used passwords to maintain a basic level of security maintenance. |

So, is the original author of the graph going to get credit or are you just stealing art assets now? |

World of Warcraft: Enforcing the Harassment Policy
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/05/10 5:46:47 PM
While I find the.. um, "RP style" odd to say the least it just brings up why MMOs are really adult environments which will never be completely appropriate for children. An adult offended by the conversation will just leave the area or server. The child most likely heard about the "RP" and sought it out. |

Guild Wars 2 vs SW:ToR which you more hyped for?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/24/10 11:29:06 PM
GW2 hands down. GW1 didn't really hook me as much as a few subscription games have, but I have gone back to it intermittently since it was released. Now I am finding the Gw2 videos impressive and interesting, but the fact that I know I will get my moneys worth out of the box price is really making me look forward to the release. Every other MMO I have some interest in has me wondering if it will justify a subscription since so few have lately. |

Bear with me, but why do so many people get hacked in WoW?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 7/22/10 9:59:23 PM
Simple answer, the Blizzard system is vulnerable to a very simple modification to plain old brute force. |

if you can revive any game .. what would it be and why?

Originally posted by Sinnrise AC deserves a reboot. I tried playing AC1 again recently, but too many aspects while functional didn't age well. AC2 I never got to try. |

Originally posted by Mechanism it is from the assists. Any kill someone gets while the HoT is active counts as an assist. Of course BFB is the way to go for actual healing and survival, but it does seem a bit ridiculous that of the specialty items only one is really feasible the vast majority of the time. |

Anyone else think Blizzard would make killer movies?
General Gaming « General Discussion 7/22/10 9:05:40 AM
No, game stories and sequences are entirely different than movies. What makes a good movie sequence would often seem dull in a game and what works in a game comes off and ridiculously overdone in a movie. it is quite similar to what makes a book amazing often just not translating to a movie well. TLDR: Different mediums do different story aspects better than others, but crossing the book, movie and game mediums means something never quite works out right. |

General: Are Collector's Editions Worth It?
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/22/10 6:44:08 AM
Never. At this point buying a game at $50 is already a gamble with bad odds. If the art or music is really that good then they will release it later separately. |

How is it that Arenanet can have guild wars two have no subscription?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 7/21/10 10:24:00 AM
Originally posted by Shinami I wish other publishers and developers would realize this. SOE and Blizzard have completely destroyed what I liked about EQ/EQ2 and WoW through expansions which seemed to have no overall vision. While they added more features to the games they took away a lot of what made the games fun by diluting populations and such. Dungeon finders and such try to remedy this, but those features do not create a player community. |

Blizzard requires faxed photo id to remove personal info
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 7/19/10 1:46:15 PM
Originally posted by -exo You have fallen for one of the most basic business principles. Convenience makes money and people will avoid inconvenience even if it costs them. it is inconvenient to remove your information from their system and so many people will not bother. They profit off of people's natural tendency to avoid something that seems like more work than it is worth. It is the same reason people never remove their names from mailing lists yet complain about junk mail and catalogs they don't read. Same reason people let mail in rebates sit past their redemption time, it is why people click accept without reading EULAs (etc) and also the reason so many people never register warranties. There is money to be made in people not willing to bother and companies know this. Question is if it worth your time to prevent others from profiting off your personal information? |

The companies making the games have the right to make it how they want and that means including and excluding various things. I in turn have to ability to buy games from companies I agree with and not buy games from companies I disagree with. Choose to support those you want and not to support those you do not want to. It is the basic rule to being a consumer. There are breweries I will not support in any way because what they lobby for in congress. There are coffee companies I will not support due to their employment policies. I do not invest in companies with practices I oppose. I choose where my money goes and everyone can do this. |

One thing I wish they'd add to this game...
General Discussion « Global Agenda 7/15/10 7:53:50 PM
They are adding mechanicals (turrets, med stations etc) to the kill list soon. I am not sure if it is the upcoming patch or after. Hopefully this will get more people to actually destroy turrets as I am tired of people complaining about a turret but do absolutely nothing about it and then die to the same turret. |

Originally posted by sapphen They also likely want to kill the WAR to free up licensing options. Most IP contracts include some sort of stipulation that if something fails and is no longer maintained by the company the licensing IP then the license can be revoked without penalty. No idea on the specifics of their IP license specifically mind you. |

Originally posted by thg7f Doesn't need to be a bad add-on, which was the point. People do silly things like download .exes for add-ons. Some of the WoW playerbase is notorius for this even. The point is that Blizzard knows it happens and knows that the userbase is their own security risk. Knowing that anyone with any respect for the userbase would not set it up in such a way that personal information is readily available. Non one can directly stop someone from voluntarily giving the information away, but you can created barriers to prevent common mistakes giving other access to the information (such as not making it readily available to people who don't need it in the first place). I have a great Idea! lets just give them personal information for billing purposes and then after that we can use some sort of pseudonym. People who need to know who we are will know and then people who have no good reason to access to our personal information will not have easy access to it! Brilliant, right? |
