People do take what WoW has for granted. It's one of the few games that i capped a char in and i think everyone else has too. Question is, if it was so bad, why did everyone and their mother level char after char in it and play it for several months (i don't think many quit before 60, except those who didn't like the style). It has raised the bar in terms of artistic style, imaginative content and world design. It's popularity has NOTHING to do with Blizzard's past releases.

More people use Windows than any other OS because of ease of use, availability and application support. Linux may be better, but hey, wtf runs on it?

People will say Vanguard is a better game because it's more hardcore and has more cool status, as it is now, as a WORKING,FULL GAME TITLE, it's not, i promise you.

I will play vanguard at release because i enjoy it, but don't fabricate information based on flavour of the month.

The thing about specialization is that for the end game there will always be one set that is btter than others and like WoW if you do not have that setup you will be ostricized and forced into a certain spec for raiding purposes.. that is atleast what ALL the End Game guilds did on the 3 servers I played the end game on.... I went to nearly the end of the END Game in WoW ... did all but like 3 bosses I do believe... and those guilds cookie cutter classes so I believe by doing it with attributes rather than skill trees may be better in the long run and not alienate so many people.

I do not remember this being an issue in EQ since it was not possible... and you proved your worth via performance rather than skillset...even though not having certain spells could make you or break you.

Only thing I do not look forward to is Vanguard's music.  This may be the first game I play in which I turn off the sound, or at least turn off the music.  The game simply has no memorable or enjoyable tunes; just a mess of notes.  They need to redo this part of the game after they get their cashflow running again.

But the world of Vanguard is as close to a sequel for EQ1 as we're going to see, at least for several years.

none of the quests have been challenging or fun all have been really boring and I think thats one of the reasons I just don't want to log in after being sent to the character screen for the 5th time in an hour theres just nothing interesting to make me want to log in.

The story line seems really thin so far.

Boring quests with no real purpose never really excited me and thats all I have found so far except for maybe 2 and they just weren't big or grand or exciting enough.

After seeing the video they put out last month I couldn't wait to get in game. but now I can't think of a reason to go back.

A game does not have to be boring to be fun, it should be exciting with new disoveries and I'm just not finding that in this game.

Um its calleda  newbie zone... you want hard as hell quests right off the bat... I mean you are still learning how the game works not to mention your toon.  I think the quests are much mroe fun than wows even though they are similar since these ones have more reason to do them.  How is not throwing a bag of heads into a camp to show your resolve without purpose? 

Um if you dont want the server to crash DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A BETA EVER NO MATTER WHAT FLIPPEN STAGE.

Oh and name a game with a good story line... if there was finality to a MMO as there is with a story... then MMOs would not exist.

WOW - simple as that. it has a great storyline and has pages and pages of lore and story. Also it has multiple books and other games that support the story. WOW and the BC expansion are continuing to write the story of the Warcraft universe.

I did not even find out about VG till like 4 weeks ago ... I truly think that its a fun game.... and thats why you should play MMOs.  And I have an up to date PC because...well I agame... its my hobby..its what I do when I come home from 10 hours of work to relax.  People whining about stuff because their PC is not up to date ... or because they do not understand PC maintenance is their own fault.... and they have fixed things... I would love for you to deny that things have been fixed over the weekend... since their are patch notes to verify it.  So fine call me a "fan boi?" whatever the hell that means if it makes your epeen bigger =/

Game is fun.. just like WoW was fun when it came out and EQ when it came out... just because of some pesky things in Beta that are being addressed there is no reason to crap on it before it is released...and if you do... then you just wanna b**** about things and throw your epeen around to make yourself feel better.... let people decide for themselves..but bashign the game turns people away that may very well think the game is fun such as myself...before the final is even released.... oh by the way... WoW had lag issues when it was released as well... their servers were trash... if you all do not remember... heck you could not even click on a quest obeject on teh ground for hours at a time or you just get stuck in the crouch position.... every game has issues.... get over it.... its the nature of the beast.

It's a cyclical process for fans of a game to scream "beta" and to expect that "miracle patch" at the end of beta that will fix everything and magically fix the major issues.  The game then launches, they don't receive this magical miracle patch, and they're then strung along for a few months or so as they're told by the dev team to be patient for it.

Eventually the bitterness sets in because that miracle patch simply doesn't exist.  Never has.  For any game.  Never will.

One can't expect a great deal of difference between an open beta client and a release client.  Those who do expect that significant difference are in the above cycle.  They will deny, argue, and basically jump up and down and act like a clown to "defend the faith".

What I do expect is for a few of the major issues to be fixed.  What I would like to see fixed is the issue with loading objects, as that's the most significant issue that I am experiencing.  Perhaps this is related to loading the chunks (aka, "zoning"), which is something that they're addressing.  So we'll see.

Either way, I have more than enough experience with beta clients to know what to expect.  Which isn't much.  Those who aren't fans of the game really ought to stay away for four or five months after it releases.

As for the graphics, no, they're not particularly impressive.  I play the game at highest quality setting*, and there is just nothing that makes me go "ohhh".  EQ2, something that I'm a boarder line "hater" of, does indeed have far superior graphics than Vanguard.

* Highest quality setting with the following disabled: volumetric clouds, HDR, Bloom, & the third lighting option, the name of which I forget.  Everything else is on.

Frame rate is 15 to 20 FPS, but the loading of objects takes too long and needs work.

Oh, yes, and as for posting on / reading the beta forums.  That would be a useful suggestion if the OPEN beta forums weren't still restricted and all secret-like as though this was still a closed beta.  Can't get into 'em.  I'm told that I don't have access.  Not that I particularly care at this point.  Why they bother to still have the that open enabled at this point is beyond me and seems mind numbingly ridicules.
