Ok, I have been a huge supporter of K2 for a long time, but this is the last straw!

WTF K2?!?!  A Bot Program, REALLY?

UNBELIEVABLE!

If you don't know what I am talking about take a look at their main page www.swordofthenewworld.com

Probably a bit late for that Neume. Folks like myself spent the better part of August - November trying to work with you guys and get the game fixed.

You all took entirely too long to implement the desperately needed changes, and most of the main issues people like myself left over are still there.

As a person I got nothing against you, your just doing your job. However, your bosses have screwed the pooch royally on this one.

Just look at your numbers... most of the high end folks like myself and people I played with took off. There is no denying that.

You do have a influx of new players, but I doubt its keeping up with the hemorrhaging.

Hmm, that's not what I see when I play, but whatever...

So you want a game that is completely free?  Do you mind in-game advertising?  Acclaim has a couple like that.

You could also try Shadowbane or Anarchy Online.  In general, there has to be some kind of profit for a game to be made... You could try Yahoo Games, I am not sure maybe Puzzle Pirates...

I never played "Sword of the new world".

So if you want those features back, uninstall "Sword of the New World" and start playing the original game for free by downloading and registering here:
http://ge.iahgames.com

And maybe there's other features as well that never made it into "Sword of the new world"....

Have fun :)

edit:
Just want to make a note of the fact that the GE servers are different servers and if you start playing there you won't have your Sword of the new world chars available. You'll have to start over with a new in game family.

edit2:
Just to clarify what I do when I AFK level because maybe it was even easier at some point:
I place my chars at a strategically good point in a dungeon and then set them to "Auto-Attack Mode".
If a character gets knocked back it can happen that it would loose that mode and you would have to set it again manually.

1. Sword is not a copy, it is the NA/EU version.

2. sGE's servers are located in Singapore, play at your own lag risk.

3. sGE DOES NOT HAVE LOCK DEFEND MODE!  YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!

4. Yes, you can still AFK fine in both Sword and sGE.

That is SOOO true.

This thread will quickly become the most read thread on the forums.  Honestly, I have dim hope for this game.  It is just this side of vaporware.  We haven't heard anything about this game in how long? And now they are giving us a cookie crum.  I HOPE, they make good on regular updates, I HIGHLY doubt they will.

From what I have heard the only real differences are the cash shops. Singapore is suspose to be much cheaper to purchase items then Granado.

Looking at the two cash shops, they really aren't that different.  They both basically have the same prices for 90% of the items.  There are some that are more expensive but by like 3-5 cents.  THEN There are are Promotion Scroll and Upgrade Accelerators.  They ARE more expensive on Sword (by about $3).  However, K2-Neume has said that price is going to drop next patch.  Also the Quarters Slot Permit (SNW) is going to be about $1 cheaper than any other version.

There are a few items we don't know about yet since they haven't been released (Lucifer/Devil Wings, Expert Promotion, Veteran Lacquers) so we won't really know until then.

EDIT: Also, it looks like Sword is getting unique packages that sGE doesn't have.  So far they look to be a pretty good deal (~$14.95).  See them here: http://forum.swordofthenewworld.com/index.php?showtopic=19246

No, you were banned from the forums for spouting lies, like you are now.  Let's look together shall we?

 K2 does nothing about botting.

LIES!  I have seen a number of players banned for botting on Vesp.  I don't play on other worlds so maybe it's different there.

K2 GM and Head GM lied about removing a botter.

Proof?

K2 took the game from Pay 2 play to free 2 play RIGHT after the first month subscription. I.E. took the money and ran.

Several companies have made the decision to go F2P before after being P2P.  I am  not sure how after the first month subscription could equate to the last week of Augwhen the game launched on July 10th.  And most beta players got a free month as well.  Also,

K2 had 0 communication about their p2p change.

So?  It seemed like it was really rushed and last minute to me.

K2 had 0 communication about their up coming patches

Umm? 2 podcasts, a ton of posts and 2 emails was zero communication?

K2 had a mod who openly flirted with people and made a few off color sexual comments, she was then fired.

Who Melisande? What the heck are you talking about?  Do you even know?  She got a job with another company.  Sylvanie also moved onto a position with another company.  What proof do you have that either were fired?

K2 Reduced the channels on the game with 0 notice.

Agree, but so did Singapore when they launched 2.4 imho.

K2 let the game ride for over six months with out a single bug fix.

Read the forums they already said why this happened and it was tied to the changes they added (Lock defend mode and character creation).  K2 has been VERY open about issues they have as they arise since the F2P fiasco.

K2 had a cash shop that as of november first was 2x the cost of the singapore version.

Maybe you should look at it now.  Once again, what you are not saying is not correct information.

Neume said that ALL versions would get nerfed UPCS.  A Month later we find out only SOTNW would get them. We were told they would fix it "soon" in august. The fix finally came through in JANUARY.

See above about changes happening slowly.  K2 Network has already responded to why things happened.

K2 does NOT ban botters on the first offense. First offense is 24 hour ban, then 72 hour ban, then perma ban. This means you can bot to damn near 100 and not get nailed.

True, but the reason they were doing this is they couldn't prove legally a player was botting, they can now in 2.4. (P.S. sGE does the same thing).

All of the above are FACTS that I have shown and proven. All of the above are major reasons why NOT to play the game. If you wish to say Im "Butthurt" go right ahead. The facts speak for themselves.

Your "facts" are anything but.  Again, you sound like a player who was banned and is still upset.  And every point you have made just furthers this appearance.

And, my game account is still usable... not sure where you got the whole Im banned thing.

Well, basically they are just hosted in different countries and by different companies.

The US version used to be a bit different than other versions, you could play without having to be at your comptuer (your people would continue to attack and heal on their own by themselves all the time) and you could pick a costume for your characters when yous tarted. But with the recent update, it's like all the rest.

The US version is a bit behind the other ones, though. I think the Korean one is on 2.6, while the US version hasn't completely implemented 2.4 yet

There are also some differences in cash shop prices. I think the US is more expensive. But then some stuff is cheaper, and I think you get more starting character slots in the US version (15).

Actually the US and Singapore versions are both 2.4 as of 1/22/08.

It seems since the US launched a month before Singapore, Singapore got to launch the expansion first.

You continue to bash K2 Network with little to no reason.  So, I will ask again, what has K2 Network done to make Sword so bad?

Change the name? ZOMG DA NAMZ BIN CHUNZD!!!

Add the Lock defend mode?  It's gone now.

Gone F2P? All other versions are currently F2P so...

Launched as P2P? All versions except for China launched as P2P so...

I just don't understand.  They serviced the game as well as anyone could have and in my personal experience has time and again proven that they value me as a customer.  They answer tickets in the same amount of time as Blizzard and SOE.  They respond to players in game and on the forums more than any other game company I have worked with.  They have live in-game GM events daily.

And most of all, anytime there is an issue they are quick to respond to it, if not bring it to our attention first.  Case and point the removal of the Lock Defend Mode was first brough up back in early December in a Podcast that they plastered all over the website.  Since then they had 2 other interviews discussing it AND 2 separate forum threads where they clearly outlined their position and why they took it.  More than anything (whether you agree with it or not) it is refreshing to see a company put their money where they mouth is.

John Smedley has NEVER gone to the extremes that I have witnessed K2 Network go through.

Although I still enjoy the game just as much after the patch, I understand the difficulty for others to accept these changes - which I hope will not come too late!

At release, SotNW followed the subscription model used by its Japanese/Korean GE counterparts. However, the title failed to establish a strong subscriber base in the North American market. I blamed the failure mainly on the auto-defend combat option which encouraged AFK-leveling and prevented the level of player interation necessary for a healthy community. This problem may have been overlooked if K2 had analyzed their launch condition with GE progress in Asia as reference.

Afterwards, K2 approached the problem with the switch to "free play with microtransactions" business model expecting to retain the remaining user population. Unfortunately, the SotNW community (with poor forum activity) remain anti-social for the most part. Together with the lack of income to support further marketing and the need to bring in more players, the situation becomes a Catch-22.

Now, it appears that K2 has decided to tackle this situation by stimulating the need for microtransactions in attempt to increase income from current players. Maybe this will be enough to get SotNW out of the vicious cycle!

Well thought out post.  I think you have made a pretty valid analysis about the game's problems and it sort of makes sense why K2 is trying to change the situation by taking the AFK leveling aspect of out it.

I guess they should look into the "insane" grind that so many complain about, but it seems that its designed for the Asian market which historically has a higher tolerance for grind. (though let's face it, they frequently look for ways to bot and what ever to get through it, just like folks in the west)

I agree.  I do think that they are already looking at the grind issue.  They (K2) basically all but said that the XP boost is permanent at this point.  So they are aware of the concerns.

I disagree that any company should stop a paying customer from spending money.  You won't find any retail store that will stop you from spending money.  You need to be mature and intelligent enough to know when enough is enough and it sounds like the OP:

A.) Was nothing more than an AFK'er who doesn't actually know how to play the game.  You can still auto attack and you can still auto heal.  You just have to be at your keyboard and hit the space bar.  not only that but there are myriad other ways to communicate with your characters individually.

B.) Probably bought the wrong items in the cash shop.  I spend about $15-100 a month but most of the items are cosmetic (Costumes wigs etc) or minor buffs (+20% XP, +5% Hit, +2 Armor Rating etc) that last for a short period of time.

C.) Really isn't into the type of game that Sword is at it's core (which is ok).

But now the new patch has been uploaded and now ITS CRAP!

First of all before the update the game had a auto attack system (like bots) which allowed you to survive the mass amount of monsters in areas, it also allowed u to train afk overnight. But now its gone =(, that means u die ALOT now, the Scout Class (Healer) is useless now because they cant auto heal.So its almost impossible to heal all 3 of characters while Grinding

Because of this new patch Hundreds of people have left and so they should, unless u want to play a game which has great graphics but terrible game play, then go ahead.

This is just a warning to all new playerst hat this game has now officially been ruined by stupid koreans that dont know how to make games.

R.I.P. Vasarii Family lvl 8

It's rare one person can be so wrong.

This game is still a lot of fun, they made the 200%XP permanent.  There are a TON of new things to do.  I haven't had so much fun in a LONG time.

As for Pryostasis, everyone knows he got all butthurt because he was banned from the forums (probably from the game because it seemed like he deserved it).

GG.

Yeah that's what I thought, I was just wondering if there was some kind of clarification made.  Although... I am sure they aren't gonna tell us if there was... So, I guess my post was kinda useless other than to say, "HEY, I C WUT U DID THAR!"

Umm... why did all the games take a 2-5 point drop on the ratings?  I logged in on Friday and Sword was at 8.1 and WoW was at 8.2 and now both are 7.9 and have not had any additional votes.  WTF?

Sword of the New World has some live GM events (daily infact).  It is fun, but it can get REALLY laggy.  Every couple months they have like a big story event and half the server shows up and it gets real crazy real quick.

I think the reason why so many companies don't do them is because:

1. It is hard to schedule.  In Sword the events happen at certain times maybe multiple times a week, but at the end of the day if you cannot make it, you just miss the event.  That sucks

2. Lag.  In general I don't get a lot of lag in Sword, but the GM Events (at least the big monthly ones) get REALLY laggy.  There is very little that they can do to stop it other than say that only so many people can come and then... whats the point?

3. Variation.  There are only so many types of events that can be run and they get boring really quickly.  So this is one place where less is more.

I've gotta admit, these are a lot of really positive changes to the game.  I will probably have to pick this up again this weekend.

I will say though the "outfit" system seems very similar to some other games.  But it looks much more refined here so they get kuddos for that.

Now we wait and see how Bliz responds lol.

Anyway, GW Turbine, keep it up!

Or not

Either way, I think micro transactions are interesting, the problem is there are few games that do it well.  I enjoy Sword of the New World.  I enjoy a lot of the people working on the title, but at the end of the day there is not any good games out there.

I recommend finding a clan.  I usually have a whole host of people to talk to when I am on (even those not in my clan).  I guess it really just depends.
