A interesting point  although i must say i do not see this being a true issue for that in the game since i and i suspect most others run into a vendor between every 10 or 15 minutes or so. If i have a full inventory in the meantime i usually salvage the whites and blues and deposit those to use or sell later.

The mats that come out of these items usually generate a great more curreny then just the item itself and it clears up space depositing them in the meantime. salavaging also does not require meaningfull time then just dumping it at a loss on the TP. This also makes the loss made a great deal larger.

so i still dont understand why people do it but a interesting perspective nonetheless.

Issue?    Well  you posted a topic about it, so I assumed you saw that as issue or was you just curious why people do it?

Anyway I suspect it is not only because of time to go to vendor, it is also less time spent on managing inventory and because it is path of least resistance.  Basically almost anything that will be more conveniant - many people will take more conveniant way.   Putting things on AH from anywhere in the world is most conveniant way to empty bags / sell items.

I dont really see the importance of the issue comment. If i had a issue with it i would also naturally be curious as to why people do it and if i was just merely curious i would have in all likeyhood wondered if there was also a issue in there, a bit moot tbh. Even if i had a particular issue with it then what?

Well i just payed attention to the difference between salvaging the items (which actually makes quite a bit more money) and selling it at -1 copper on the TP which in comparison to selling salvaged mats is a whole lot more loss then 1 copper.

It actually takes less time and clicks to salvage granted you make sure you keep the kits on you.  You still could argue that you have to sell or use those mats later on ,using them does not add any inconveniunce to the point but having to sell the mats might be seen like that but since they all stack it all comes down to just selling a few stacks every now and then and make a whole lot more money at the same time.

Time taken / profit made ,salvaging is the way to go.

My conclusion as mentioned by "Loktofeit" earlier in the thread:

People are *not so clever* and un-aware and or lazy :)

i have no issue with their losses i was just merely curious as to what drove them to do it in this manner. My conclusion satisfies :3.

Thank you all for your input as it truly helped with my question.

I'm just getting tired of reporting names. I don't go all out and report everything that is not in the fantasy setting, only names that are ridiculously offensive or just plain wrong.

Just a couple examples: Redhead Firecrotch, Indian Baby Raper

...Seriously? These shouldn't even make it into the game. Just put a light censor on words like "raper" or "crotch" in the character creation screen.

I guess it's not a huge deal so long as you can report and they can force them to change the name but something as ridiculous as these shouldn't of even made it into the starter area.

You have issues with"Redhead Firecrotch" and go through the trouble of reporting people for it?

Taking it a bit far arent you.

Its because people can put things on the AH from anywhere in the world. Its a convience feature that saturates the market with vendor trash. However, it has its benifits if you like to gamble. 4 green items can be turned into yellow items at a certain % by using the mystic forage. I've gotten some pretty good weapons/armor doing this, and some unique skins. ANET said they are looking at ways at reducing this, but chances are they won't remove the ability of selling items to the AH directly from your inventory.

I am not entirely sure if i understood the convenience part right tbh. Do you mean it is being used as for the convenience of emptieng your inventory from anywhere from the inventory?

If so it would be as fast as simply destroying those items on the spot and actually save you money as oposed to selling them at a loss in the TP.

(again i am not really sure i understood what you meant there : )

They are not selling it at loss.   It is only loss if you compare it to selling at NPC.
Some  people don't want to go to NPC even if it is close and prefer to earn less at AH than spent minute to go to NPC.

Some people prefer to sell something at AH for 4 coppers than go to NPC and sell it for similar price. Even if it is higher.

+ bots are propably using it as well.

Remember whole concept of trade, not only in mmorpg but also in real world is all about time.

Imagine you want apple.  You don't have to go buy it.  You can try to find some seeds, plant an apple tree, care for it and in 1-2 years you will have your apple.   Or that you want piano.  You could go search libraries for books about making pianos and spend akit if time learning how to make it and do it

It is same thing in mmorpg's.    More coneniant and faster crafting there is more people will be crafters and people will be more self-sufficiant, supply / demand ratio won't be good and crafting will be just easy fast side-game like it is in most mmorpg's.

Same with auction house and prices.  If you make global AH and give an ability to post items on AH from anywhere then people will swamp AH and sell items at really low cost.  Why?

Item price won't contain time you need to spend going to traditional AH to post them.  + there will be less supply because many players won't bother to go to AH personally and just sell at NPC.

(my earlier comment about it being as convinient to destroy items as selling them for -1 copper was stupid of course)

Why do people keep putting items onto the TP for 1 copper higher then the vendor price when it actually costs them 2 copper to do so ? Why do people keep  doing this?

At first i thought this would be something that would settle after a while but now im starting to question if i am missing something here and that there is good reason to do this since this seems to still be a very popular use of the TP.

I dont see it though,  items that makes 14 copper on the vendor for instance are being sold for 15 copper on the TP which would cost the seller 2 copper just to put it on there and eventually nets him a result of -1 copper on the whole deal. Are there really that many people that are unaware of this?

Anyone that expected GW2, or any other online game for that matter, to be completely bot free is an uttter fool.

What matters is how the company reacts to the issue, whi ch is something that ArenaNet has handled quite well:

- Thousands of banned accounts

- Harsh Diminishing Returns on farming

- Giving people an option to buy gold in a legitimate fashion

Also, on Darkhaven I have yet to experience a botter that has affected my gameplay experience. In fact, I dunno if I have seen any botters whatsoever.

To which they did. They are working (re-working) a automated bot detector AND they just anounced a LIVE team for it.

It's going to only get worse. So much for Anet's revolutionary idea of killing them off with real money currency.

Do you have that link to my free gw2 account then ?

eh.. ?

1. They usehacked accounts

2. They skew the economy

3. They end up in the same popular spots crwoding it up while using cheats

4. 1 should be enough reason

That being said ,i have looked and visited these places where there were supposedly 20 / 30 bots 24/7 but i have not seen them. Yesterday there was this guy in one of the threads (Grimal i think) who shouted 1 player in 3 bots in this game or something overly dramatic like that end then produced 2 pictures of the same 6 bots.

[mod edit]

Bots enter popular MMO's and even less popular ones it is a simple fact of any MMO.

But sticking your head in the ground, calling anyone a "troll" who points out problems with your game, thus ignoring the problems, is a horrible way to go about.

big difference between saying bots are around and saying game is overrun by bots and that is what the majority of the population is.. or saying every other person you see is a bot

Thank you, that was exactly my point.

This guy is full of spin. In my post prior to that one i already mentioned that there are bots in every popular and eve less popular mmo's and after his claim of 1 player in 3 bots all he could come up with was 2 pictures of the same 6 bots. Now he tries to pretend that me and probably others are denying bots altogether.

Spin.

I saw a few in Orr areas just after release, but didn't see a single one lately. As I said in a previous post, bots don't get very old, they barely get past level 30-40ish.

I'm strictly anti-bot, and I'm reporting them all when I see them, and yeah, the game as a problem with them (just like most if not all MMORPGs which have some success), but we must not exagerate either.

Seriously , i can take a pic of 6 bots in any mmo right now so what was all the drama about then?.

Just look the (grimal)  post histories, man... some people are simply more busy bashing games, often with imaginary over-exagerated problems, instead of playing a game they would enjoy.

I just did have a look at his post history for 4 pages then i stopped. All of them spend in the GW2 section telling everyone how bad gw2 is. Why even go to a gw2 forum then unless..

ive never seen one of those bots in a mmo....
what is this phenomenon ?

Seriously any mmo has bots look at WoW battlegrounds you can count each game between 1 or 10 bots per side.
Aion has Blots of bots
any mmo has bots...

great thing in GW2 is you can double team with bots and make your kills easier if you farm stuff.
I do it all the time so whats the real problem ?

Its not like they kill steal mobs and you cant loot lolz -_-

And MoP is out servers in GW2 are still FULL / High.
Whats this obsession for GW2 ?

Game is rocking hardcore and nearing 3 million sales :)

Keep crying tough its hilarious to see these bashers and haters :D

Aparently according to him 2 pictures of the same 6 bots is proof that the servers are overun with bots and that there is no real population.

A ridiculous stretch of the imagination but hey.

There are so many bots in the beginning human area on Yak's Bend.  It's really discouraging when most people I ran into were exactly that, teleporting about with names like "xytsnsh.d."  I've been playing this game since launch and it's become quite disheartening.

For every 1 real player I ran into last night, I encountered 3-5 bots.  So not sure what this server is for other than them.

^ Load o crock.

Next to that i visited all those places where people claimed that there were 20 bots 24/7 teleporting and with names like that etc  , i did not find a thing myself. I did see people doing the even but nothing out of the ordinary since when they finished it they moved on , they also had regular names and didnt teleport. I mentioned this on the gw2 forums and aparently i was there on the wrong time. I dunno how i could be there on the wrong time tho considering "24/7" and all.

But lets asume there are 20 bots on these popular bot events. that makes about 2 groups per map for these tops no lets make them 3 per map then, how would those possibly be reposponsible for giving the servers their "high" or "full" status anyway,

they couldn't.

This was just a few minutes ago, Gendarran Fields on Piken Square. The whole zone is sprinkled with them. Running around I had reported several and then that train hit me...

And I posted in https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/gw2/On-Botting-and-What-We-re-Doing-About-It

6 bots. What happened to 1 in 3 for every human player or groups of 20 spread out all over the game and responsible for the high population?  Talking like that is as bad as the people denying that there are no bots at all and this ia the best you can come up with after your claim of 1 in 3 is human and the rest bots, six ...really ?.

Seriously , i can take a pic of 6 bots in any popular mmo right now so what was all the drama about then?.

TSW added a server too >.>

Yah , in its second week after launch only because a dedicated RP server was requested which was the reason.

BTW I'm of the opinion that all your core components (GPU, CPU, memory and MB) have to be good and not just your CPU and GPU.

If you are just walking around with no zergs or keep battles going on yeah. Otherwise that setup will not allow you to keep playable framerates at all.

My rig:

I5 2500K at 4.5ghz

16GB

GTX560ti @986mhz

120gb SSD

my PvE settings:

All high/max

*shadows high

*native rendering

50 - 100+fps

sPvP settings:

All high

*reflections /medium

*shadows medium

*native rendering

60-100+fps

(can be the same as my PvE settings no problem but in sPvP i prefer a bit higher fps)

WvWvW settings during a keep battle or any other big fight :

Basically everything low with a few exeptions for the sake of retaining some aesthetics.

i dont remember the fps since i havent done much of it

WvWvW when there are no big battles around :

Same as my PvE settings including fps.

No way you can run WvWvW in a big battle with the same settings as in PvE and FPS with a 3.4ghz clocked cpu and standard clock 560ti. The whole thing slows down to a crawl and becomes as slideshow basicaly, nothing playable at least.

No... I have played in the zerg and seiges using this setup and it's fine. The only thing that I should of mentioned is that the 560ti I have is factory overclocked and I turn AA off. I get a smooth framerate throughout and I have no reason to lie about this.

My OC on my 560 is far above any factory OC out there. My CPU runs 1.1Ghz faster

I am curious. What sort of FPS do you consider smooth?

Small battles sure i retain 'smooth' framerates, relatively. But in full out wars nu uh nothing acceptible with everything on high/max and i dont have any performance issues otherwise.

It is really your GFX card that cant handle max, the 460 is a few year old standard gamer card. Get a 680 instead and you will be able to run it fine, a 580 or 670 should work as well.

Heck, my 480 can do it even, but my buddies with 460 cant, not even the ones with really good CPUs and 16 gig ram.

No need to completely change the rig or anything, the rest of it is good enough. Good GFX card is sadly pretty expensive but they last longer. A SSD is the second addition I would buy if I where you, it will make loading times so much faster.

Clearing out all crap that starts with your computer also helps somewhat to improve performance and that is free. I recommend reinstalling windows from scratch every 2 years or so to take away all junk and keep the registry in good shape.

Of course MMOs gets more optimized with time so you will get better framerate as time goes as long as you udate your drivers now and then.

If he keeps his CPU running at 3.4 ghz it is not going to help him that much in WvWvW.

I used max settings yesterday on an intel i5 3750k, 3.4 GHZ 8MB1600mhz and using a nvdia 560ti without much problem. This is probably helped by the fact that the environment in WvW is rather plain.

News Flash!

Got my account back!

1. Not a single item was restored.

2. All Chars are still on some US server. (My chars were transfered from GER to US)

3. I had 40G, 3 weeks ago b4 I got hacked, now I have: 1G!

4. All my gems that I exchanged for gold are gone too. Lost: ~4800 gems, thats around 60 euros.

5. All my twinks are completly naked.

6 different ppl handled my case. _each_ reply was from a different GM. They even sent me an email last week, wich told that my account is restored and blah, but it wasnt. My account was still in use by Mr Hacker guy. Over the last 3 weeks they didn't even bother to lock my account. My char was online the whole time 24/7 farming.

Today I got my account back. And you know what? I played for about 2 and a half weeks. The hacker played for more than 3 weeks. THAT is guild wars 2 support for you.

When I loged in, I was in the middle of a bot storm. Around 20 of them were cycling around me. The bot problem is actually pretty big in GW2. I even had over 5 bots on my friend list. -.-

They have no pattern recognition. (IP check, region, online behaviour, etc) Which could save a lot of ppl. They need a shitload of information, and on top of that you have to wait weeks or days between replies.

But the best thing is: They won't restory a single thing. Items, Gold, Mats, Gems which were worth 60 euros. Nothing.

This is the 2nd time someone hacked my account. Last time was 2 years ago in wow and I got all my stuff back within 2 days. I talked to a lot of my friends and apparently, its pretty common to restore accounts. WoW, Aion. Age of Conan, Rift and so on. They do restore your accounts. Heck, FUNCOM! We are talking about fucking funcom. Even those guys do such things. But not guild wars 2.

Im so fucking disappointed, because Anet was one of my holy pillars of gaming industry.

Anet for GW1. now dead.

Blizzard for WC3/SC/Diablo.

Bioware for several rpgs. dead since DA2 and ME3.

Valve for HL and Dota2.

I bought 2 copies(from their site) and the charr toy. I supported Anet with around ~140 euro? +promotion (5 of my friends bought GW2).

And thats what I get back.

I know that most of you don't care, and even more think that I used some shitty PW and deserved all this, but w/e .. just needed to write something.

have a nice day

Anyone else having a problem with the highlighted part. The game was 2 weeks old max at that time. I feel there is more to this story than being told.

A bit yes.

40G in the first 2 week, without a working TP.

Twinks ,how do you twink in gw2? Or if it means decked out 80's how many can you make in 2 weeks all maxed out.

But overal people do get hacked. The idea of it being the Anet database that has been hacked is very doubtfull. If that has happened they usuually send out e-mails to everyone change your PW as it would make for a bigger mess for them if they tried to be all hush hush about it.

Reading through these responses I mostly just LOL'ed.

Gamers are telling others that the game lacks social qualities.  They even explain why.

Defenders tout these people as haters or non-outgoing types of people.

Like with any game, when a big portion of gamers state there is a problem, and some others white-knight a company, saying "everything is fine!", there is going to be a big population drop in the game.  In this case, GW2.

Why?  Because the most vocal people are the ones saying there is no need for change.  These people actually destroy a game - reference SWTOR details of it's destruction. It's the hard-core fans that don't allow criticism who destroy a game.

People are providing criticism to make the game better.  If you shut them down, then you only will make the game worse overall.  It might be better for you, but who gives a damn if only 20% of the original players still bother playing?  White-Knighters will soon be asking, "Why is my server dead?".

Okay, so the people saying that GW2 is a fairly social game...yeah I don't think it's a blind fanboy thing.  Let's just compare GW2 to WoW in terms of socialization shall we?

Both these games have dungeons that REQUIRE groups, so there is no use in talking about them, so let's focus on the open world.

In WoW, the open world consist of quests that each individual must do, and just about all quest objectives are "limited supply" and not instanced per player so another player can take your quest objectives.  In addition, many of these quests are chained so that you must complete step A before step B, before step C etc. etc.

The result of this design is that it becomes pretty difficult to group with someone because you essentially have to be at the same exact point in your questing.  And you generally don't want other players around you while you are questing because they will just take your quest objectives and make it harder for you to complete the quest.  The end result is that, most of the time, you want to AVOID other players while questing in WoW or another traditional themepark.

Now take GW2...in GW2, the majority of event or heart objectives are either shared, or instanced per player so that players will not "compete" for objectives.  In addition, the presence of other players almost always helps, and is oftentimes REQUIRED to complete certain events.  This actually ENCOURAGES you to actively group with and socialize with players in the open world.

Soooo when people say things like GW2 isn't a social game...yeah I just have to say something in return because it is SO WRONG.

very much agreed still trying to understand how the game would be more enjoyable or social if for every event you had to stop and ask around for people to join your party.. how the event system works it just wouldn't make sense..I'm also curious how not having passive grouping would change how DEs played out aside from causing more frustration by requiring you to find a party.... thought Rifts open group system worked great and glad gw2 uses this idea and makes it even better imho

People confuse spamming "looking for healer/tank" for a hour with socializing it seems.

The vocal minority in this thread that claims that they should be forced to be social is already small enough to see how this is a issue for only few.

Pro tip: In GW2 you only need to even group once with people and it will even keep you grouped when you go offline, yuo do not even need to rebuild a steady group if your lazy :3
