Wahammer, I was in beta for a year, so I knew it had too many flaws to overcome. GW2, I didn't buy the hype and to be honest, the insane forum hype that game received, made me want to play it less and less. So I am going to have to go with SW:ToR.

Being a huge fan of the 2 single players games and Bioware I was hoping for something much much more then what it isn't.

When I did get into a beta weekend finally, I was soooooooooooo disappointed lol. The combat was such a turn off, I stopped playing after a couple of hours and didn't play again until launch, which I was convinced by a friend to get it. I did end up playing for seven months, only because of a guild we made and the community within that guild. I have logged in twice since and couldn't bring myself to do anything in game, except message a couple of people. So SW:ToR wins my biggest disappointment by a landslide....

P.S. SWG getting cancelled would rank right there with it.

If SWG did it 10 years ago (skinny, fat, tall, short, muscular, lean, large chested, small chested, wrinkles, freckles, speckles, blah blah...) these modern games should be able to have more options for character customization.

Why did Neverwinter get a pass - On being the most linear, hub to hub, tug-a-long, faceroll, shallow themepark; when games like TERA get trashed for it? Small zones, follow the rails (paths) to the next hub, cut and paste dungeons, boss AI so predictable that my son's hamster could beat them... zero exploration value.. etc

I just got to max level, and while I noticed this obvious shallow linear experience very early, I felt compelled to at least get to max level before I made any reviews.

And how is this whack-a-mole game even remotely similar to Dungeon and Dragons? Its clearly more Diablo2 than anything D&D.  Faceroll slaughtering AE groups of mobs and having loot spew out like loot pinatas and then scrambling to scoop up shinies on the ground? So did the developers just decide they needed to do the minimum to claim the powerful cloak of D&D?  I think Gary Gygax would be ashamed - more likely, simply amused - to have his creation associated with this mess.

The Foundry has some good content, its the sole reason I enter the game each night (that and my 11 yr son plays - yes, his tastes in MMO are much less refined as mine).

I have my own theories on why Neverwinter gets a pass on this... but what are yours?

This is going to sound bad, but I just don't think enough people care about Neverwinter to throw a fit over it.

They don't care now, but when the game went live, "open beta" if that is what they pretended it was, they did care.

As always, tons of people trashed the new game and tons of people defended it. I think that either the number of people hyped for this stinker was lower then the norm or people tried it and left so fast, by the time the official launch occured (today?) it didn't matter to the masses anymore and only the extremely intelligent that spent $200 are the main ones sticking it out.

A crap game was made by guess what? A crap developer with a crap publisher....

The combat and the foundry xp exploit were the only reason I even played for almost a week.

Not to be a total dick, but I did not look at any of the games or whatever was listed above. This is because after mmorpg.coms reviews of best and worst mmos of the year + their hate for a game I have never played (Scarlett Blade), I have lost all respect for any of the opinions of the people who work/write for this site. It is very disappointing for me too, as I have come to this regularly since 2003.

I just come to browse the forums now and as of this post, I guess voice my disapproval for the direction this site is heading recently.

People can say Destiny is better or the Division is better blah blah blah. I think we are getting 2 kick ass new games with these two. Both look amazing imo.
I'm not going to get into all the other points and arguements in this post, but I wanted to point out that cloud based anything does not mean faster updates in way, shape, or form. That just made me laugh out loud enough that I had to throw in my two cents. Updates, DLC, or patches will still come at the same rate the game devs put them out.............

This was not on my mind

I think as long as they offer a sub option like Eq2 or Dcuo, I will be happy.

SWG(Emu)! Wakka wakka wakka.....where housing was your workshop, lab, shop, museum, etc.. many styles and sizes, 10 lots per character, open world placement, player cities, etc...

I have never tried the emu, but I think I just talked myself into trying it out. Thanks!

While I will not attempt to play an mmorpg on a console as long as a PC version is available, I think that the fact that Playstation 4 will have two f2p AAA mmorpg titles will help them move extra units. If they are available at launch, even better for them. Sony/SOE is doing alot of things right atm.
Defiance is newer, but not sure if it has a trial. If you haven't tried DCUO (it has some sci-fi elements being in a comic book universe), I would suggest it. I put the game off since it came out, but started playing recently and after a month or so, seems like a pretty decent game. It seems to suit alot of different play styles and preferences.....and it is f2p or sub. I subbed after my first day and haven't looked back (granted I am only in my second month). The other thing that has caught my attention, is the community in game is pretty good overall and very helpful(forum community seems to whine alot). I could go on, but then I would feel like a shill. Anyway, if you haven't tried it, look into it.

I think more games should have the pve/pvp phases similar to DCUO. It's all on the same server, one is pvp and the other pve.

Start out on pvp, get smacked down one to many times by level 30s, just go to the pve phase ,level to 30 and go gank lowbies.

Strictly pve people would never know the other phase was there if they didn't care and vice verse, I like the option personally depending on my mood and what kind of time I have that day.

I like how it is now.  Not to get all racist, but one of the things that made DAoC such a great pvp game was realm pride.  In the case of ESO, Faction pride.  I was Midgard through and through, and I was a racist when it came to the other realms.  I absolutely hated elves, lurikeens, saracen, and half-ogres. Didn't like much of the other races from the other realms either.  This is one part that made the game great.

Edit: oh and as for Inconnu,  I didn't care what everyone else was doing, I went after them first :) Ugly, fish-faced, paleskinned noobs!

I approve of this post 100%

When Daoc had realm pride, it was an amazing feeling in that game. If a relic keep came under attack, everyone would stop doing whatever they were doing, level 50 or 30, it didn't matter, we defended! Nostalgia colored glasses rock.

Don't get discouraged by the term grind there. From what I saw in beta and read on the forums, is that many people seemed to get at least 1 or 2 character on their way to max level, some claimed upwards of 3 or 4. Costumes on the other hand seemed to be the rare grind for items.

Don't forget that you get your choice of 5(i think it was) characters when you start and by the time you finish the Raft, you get a second character for finishing the final quest. I believe that is only good once per account, not per character you level.

At this point though, I haven't kept up with any info for about 2 weeks, so not sure anything has changed significantly in regards to character drops. Good luck though, Thor was the last character I played in Beta, other then Cable, Thor was so beast it was ridiculous.

For whatever reason, I was in no way swayed by anything they said about PS2. While the game is fine for what it is, it really isn't all it sounded like they wanted it to be, but how many games nowadays are. EQN though....mysteriously had my curiosity, but now has my attention.

Maybe SOE just has to get one right in this gen, I would even be willing to take almost right. One thing I have noticed by going back to EQ2 recently and playing DCUO, maybe it's all in my head but there are multiple things in each of SOEs games that remind me of different aspects of SWG. Obviously not any blatant copies of any SWG systems, but alot of bits and pieces. If they added something even remotely close to SWGs crafting and resource gathering sandbox elements, I would be sold for years.

SOE is a company that has taken tons of bumps and bruises along the mmo highway, I really hope there have been some scars too, that remind them what works and what doesn't. If they fail on EQN, I will not hesitate to overlook any of their future projects like I do with a number of crappy mmorpg producing companies. I really want to give examples lol, but that's for another post.

While I do not agree that they should change the race restrictions at all, it does kind of suck that there is such a small limited number of them per realm. That was something I liked in my Daoc days, Midgard had their Trolls and Norsemen, Hibernia had their Firbolgs and Lurikeens, etc.... It really set the realms apart in RvR. Again though there were more race choices and as the game expanded in time there were even more, but I don't think there are as many races in ES lore that they could add down the road, if they ever add any races. If they buckle and give in to peoples complaints about faction race restrictions, I hope it is similar to EQ2, where it involves a betrayal quest or something similar. I just don't think they should completely scrap the entire race faction system. I could however see certain races being accessable by multiple factions, like Imperial would be able to be created in all factions, but Argonian could only be a certain faction, etc...

With that said, these are just rumors until Zenimax would make this knowledge public. I could very well see them not lift any race restrictions due to the lore in the game they have been adding for a few years now. If they have quests and other lore related things supporting certain races being in certain factions only, I couldn't see them trying to scramble to adjust it now, when I am sure they have many other things to get ready for the rest of the betas and launch. There just might not be enough time to change their minds, unless they left some holes in the lore in game. Just my 2 cents.

If Cryptic or PWE did not make a poll, I am pretty sure it doesn't matter what the outcomes are....They obviously are going to go their own route on this issue and not yours.

Also for those that continually keep saying it's beta lol, come on...get real already. The day the game went "open beta", was the day the game launched. Look at it like one of those lame Facebook games, they never leave beta. The game is officially launched, no do overs on this one.

What happened sucks and they are going to deal with it  their way, not yours, his, hers, or whoevers.  How many online games does crap like this happen in? Dupes, xp exploits, coin exploits, etc... None of this is new and has all happened before 100 times over. Hopefully they will ban those that they find guilty, that is all you can realistically expect. Once a game is live, it's live. No rollbacks or wipes be given, it's too late for that to be an option.

I do not even think it is a matter of sandbox vs. themepark....unfortunately, it was/is just a bad game and a terrible use of the Star Wars license. Most aspects of the game are just not fun, plain and simple.
