Battleground Europe: WWII Online: 7th Year Promotion
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/06/08 11:30:40 AM
Look for it in China. Try it here again when you get back. It seems CRS has marketed it in China in the last several months. Different servers, so they are not connected to the rest of the world, and a few different rules. ex. anti-addiction code, so you can't be logged on for more than a few hours at a time. The game has grown so much in the past very few months. Look for more massive changes in the next short while. eg. graphics with Unity 2, graphics engine. Cheers Dogbertx |

It depends on what time of day you play and what side. My squad is allied ONLY and usually play Euro and US Prime time. We have a presence 24/7 but our best numbers are US Prime time. We run armor, fly planes and generally do it all. We're 23rdarmor. www.23rdarmor.org Login allied, and send a general text message asking for any 23rd online. Usually F5 will get you the allied channel. When you get an answer, ask to be recruited. You will then get a message in game to accept. Type .accept and that's it. You're in. Go to the forums www.23rdarmor.org and register. They will get you into teamspeak which is a HUGE help. We'll help you kill grey things the 23rd way. Our guys will help you with all questions, tactics, towing, MSP's etc. The squad has many High Command in the squad (I'm a Div CO in the French AF) that will give you insight into the larger picture and we have a lot of guys that will show you how it's done in the dirt. LOL Lots of joking around, lots of good times and all good people who have fun in game. Our forums are very helpful, the guys will go out of their way to make the game experience, fun and much simpler. Dbx |

My squad, the 23rd armor, is fielding 40+ players at all times, at peak we're pushing 70. Our goal is 100 on a squad night. We fly, drive tanks, use Anti-tank and Anti-Air guns, ships and infantry. Last nights battles were massive. 30+ tanks in one column alone. The attacks on Wellin and St. Truiden were very large, with equally as large air battles over each town. We were seeing 20+ aircraft in large dogfights ... and not just once but over each town and, over the Forward Bases over a period of 4+ hours. This map the axis are pushing very hard. The German High Command (High Command = very experienced players) are doing a much better job than last map. Equipment has good balance. French tanks have better guns and armour but poor situtational awareness. Axis tanks have poor guns, decent armour but goos SA. British tanks have poor armour, decent guns and good SA. Brit and French fighter planes have good maneuverability but limited climb and BB's for guns. (.30 calibre). Axis planes have armour, very good guns but poor maneuverabilty. Brit (Havoc) and french (DB7) bombers are fast but carry a relatively light bomb load. (french has better bombs). The axis bombs are bigger and better but the He111 is slower. the Stuka is slow, very maneuverable, armoured but still vulnerable. The allies don't have a dive bomber but the DB7/Havoc can glide bomb very well. Ships are basically the same for all navies. Infantry is closely modelled. With minor changes per side. Axis LMG is a precision weapon, Brit is close second, French good but definitely 3rd. SMG's, Axis MP40 best, Brit Tommy gun 2nd and the French SMG is just a POS. Rifles all good, all slightly different, and alll sides have comparable mortars. Rifle grenadiers are comparable between the French and Axis. The brit grenadier is a HEAT grenade that will kill any axis tank if you get close enough. Paratroops are much the same over all 3 armies. (and are a BLAST to use) Performance upgrades have been huge in the past short while. There are still some issues that need to be addressed but it's all a work-in-progress. Every 2-3 months we almost have a new game with the upgrades, additions etc. The last one was TOE. Tactical Order of Equipment. Previous to TOE's the equipment was associated with each town. Each town had it's own spawnlist, it's set amount of equipment. Now the towns have zero equipment. The equipment is associated with Brigades, which are attached to Divisions. The Brigades and Divisions can be moved around the map by the High Command. Now the game is more strategic and the goal is to destroy the enemies supply list. You beat them out of one town, you pursue them. Now they don't get a brand new set of equipment but have to fight with what they have. Destroy enough equipment and you can create a breakthrough to their undefended towns. Last map was stalemated with huge battles until the allies managed a breakout. Then the map ended in 4 days. Come try it. It's immersive. Your heart rate will go up the first time you are in a 30+ tank column attacking a town.
Dogbertx ps. join a squad. It's a much faster learning curve and is much more fun |

Why'd they have to require login to Barracks forum!?!?
General Discussion « World War II Online 3/11/05 1:37:35 PM
The official explanation of policy ... after it being passed through several people. The jist of it is .... Too many potential new players getting turned off by whiners and forum trolls. Also, The spam that was coming through from know-it-all non-players was getting out of hand. Too many not following the Terms of Service agreements, too many personal flame posts etc. Now to post you have to be a paid member. I can't see the problem with that. There are many squad forums you can subscribe to if you wanted to follow. 1 click on my sig (www.virtual11th.com), another, www.23rdarmor.com, another, http://www.4wingonline.com You have to sign up for them but you will be welcome. To introduce myself in this forum. I am Dogbertx. This is my tag in Ww2OL, look me up when you're online. I'm not quite a day 1 player in Ww2OL but close and a bit of a fixture in ww2ol. I'm AHC and a RAF Wing CO. WW2OL has a free 2 week trial, try it out again. This is link to the stat's page. My stat's are not hidden. Feel free to browse. http://csr.wwiionline.com/scripts/services/beta.jsp;jsessionid=C670041D4BDD8BAE45E03FC3BA5A86B6 I posted the link here not to show you how uber I am (I'm not) but to show you that I don't BS and can back up what I say. The problems are ..... not too many fighters, and not the numbers imbalance. The problems are with the planning and direction or lack of it. When you see lots of allied fighters overhead and few of your own....you are likely suffering from the old 64 limit. The game will render only the enemy if there are too many objects in the area in order to alleviate the lag. It is a myth that we blanket a town with fighters and have no infantry, we know fighters are only usefull for killing enemy air. We do regular fighter sweeps and go where we are asked by the ground. If they are being airquaked by Stuka's, we come. If bombers are called for, we come. We bring our own fighters for cover but rarely are there more than 5 Spitfires over a town. In addition, fighters and bombers can cover multiple towns in a short time, there can appear to be MANY more than there in reality. I fly 90% of the time (see the sig). Every time I'm over a town there are at least as many enemy planes as allied. From the ground, you just may not see them. The BEF have the numbers, they are just horrendously undisciplined at the moment. The numbers of players are spread so thin they become less effective. When the game changed with the introduction of AO's (Attack Objectives) the lone wolves couldn't mole a city at will. They changed their tactics to suppressing/camping the forward bases to get their easy kills. They still do their own thing but in doing that they make themselves much less effective. The game has morphed into a more team oriented game. The lone wolf days are numbered, these guys are the ones who think themselves a hero or are trying to figure out what they are good at in game. They need to join a multi-faceted squad that can teach them the tricks of each trade, or they need to play an arcade game that feeds their ego. Yesterday the one-at-a-time, no plan attackers insisted on an Attack Objective on Brussels. What happened was...they went in one at a time, killed 1-2 enemy, temporarily captured a depot and died. Then did it again and again. They had fun but totally emptied the supplying town. At the end of the day the axis counterattacked and walked into the allied town of Halle. They continued the advance and captured 4 more allied towns. Now the molers have no place to go and now they whine. In comparison, the French army captured 7-8 towns. Here is the difference. The french have a team that is made up of 3-4 squads. They have an air squad, an AAA and Anti-tank squad and a tank squad. The brits used to have such a team in the 5th brigade. Working together they have pushed the Axis to the edge of the map. Success attracts the new players, the side-switchers and the easy mode types. These add numbers and now at some times of the day we (allied) have the numbers imbalance. This is how an attack should go. This is how the attacks go with the french. This is how the attacks used to go and will go again with the Brit's. 1- Capture and protect the Forward base. Set the Attack Objective, start the timer. (10 minutes beofre the first table) 2- Start the armour driving from a rear town. NEVER a frontline town. You may need to defend from a counter-attack. It usually takes about 15 minutes more and you can usually get the good armour you want. 3- Surround the objective with AA and Antitank guns. Have Anti-tank guns cut the resupply routes. These guns will kill any armour that spawns. 4- Have para's drop on the objective (the allies have 2+ squad's that do para drops almost exclusively) 5- Get Mobile Spawn points setup around the town. Capture the spawnable depot's so more infantry (usually non-squad) can spawn in. (Start the timer on the first cap, the bunker table will come up after 20 minutes) 6- Combat air patrol (CAP) comes, usually 4-5 fighters, all using teamspeak. They stay high for cover. Close Air support (CAS) comes to kill any setup enemy ATGun's and tanks. We also bomb the Army base. 7- The tanks should be there by then. They drive in, killing any AI and enemy tanks left and cover the CP's and the AB. 8- The infantry rush the bunker and capture it. Town ours. Next. I welcome questions and comments. Cheers Dogbertx ps. As I mentioned, the 23rd Armour Brigade is made up of several squads. If one doesn't do what they are supposed to then others suffer. Not all attacks can go as planned. pps. Note - Remich is allied and about 4 towns behind the lines now. If at first .... |

Would you rather Download a game or buy it in the stores?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/11/05 11:49:25 AM
My first post here. About me .... I am a hardcore MM gamer but only play 1 game on a "full time" basis. WW2online. I voted for the download because WW2OL has an update (added features, patches) etc every 4-6 weeks. It is a constantly morphing game. Buy the game in the store and you would spend as much time updating the older version as you would downloading the full "new" version. Cheers Dbx |
