Can't blame EA for shutting them down. They weren't worth a whole lot after DAoC, anyway. They had a chance with WAR, but they were messing up so bad, and they went to EA for more money, and EA even allowed them an extension or two on WAR's development, and it still wound up to be garbage. Then they weren't worth a whole lot more than some extra developers. They weren't worth keeping around.

According to this article, EA is even helping them towards finding new jobs. You can hate on EA all you want, but they aren't "bad guys" in this situation.

I can't understand for the life of me how this game doesn't feel like Final Fantasy to people who appreciate the series. I've been playing FF games since the first on the NES as a kid, and the amount of throwbacks in the game, the music, and atmosphere just scream FF to me. The nostalgia component of Biggs and Wedge, and Magitek armor alone was enough to get me crazy excited. lol

This isn't to bash what you said or anything, it's just baffling to me.

To be honest, I found DS2 harder than DS1. By 3/4 through to the end of DS1 I was having no problems whatsoever killing the enemies and the bosses. They were a joke. in DS2 was struggling through the stuff  for almost the entire game, though I missed some areas early on and was overpowered for them when I figured out where they were.

I would say, at the very least, the bosses seemed easier a lot of the time, but the areas between bosses were more difficult.

I beat the game, and now I play for fun with the multiplayer and PvP arena on occasion, which is all better and awesome, imo.

Regardless, glad to hear this news. With the creator as President, that means Dark Souls 3 won't be watered down, either. Assuming they make a third one; though I can't see them not making a third one to continue the success.

The opening is exactly the same, they still haven't got round to doing voice acting for it and it just feels like they've turned it more into WoW. So far I'm doing the exact same quests I remember doing in MMOs 10+ years ago, I think MMOs have finally started to move on, but FF14 has stayed in the past when it comes to the quests. The combat is really slow and boring still, the UI for the PS4 version sucks, I find it hard to navigate it and working out where to go for a quest on the mini map is really difficult. 

There is nothing Final Fantasy about it though, I got to level 9 and I'm bored, I don't want to continue. I don't understand what this has to do with FF? There is no story and everything feels so dated, it is literally like going back 10+ years and tbh I think even FF11 was doing more interesting things. 

I hate the new world design as well, all they've done is added loads of loading screens. Why? They never existed in 1.0 to this extent, suddenly cities that never had loading screens in them, now they have 4 or 5. The world is so like a coridoor, there are barely any open areas, when you look at the actual playable area on a map, most of it is like straight lines. Most the stuff in the game has an invisible wall there and I just feel so packed in. 


I just don't get it and it doesn't help that the world is dead and there is no easy way of talking as they forgot to build in voice chat for the console version. I bet most people were fans of FF11 and are on the legacy servers, I had a FF11 account but the process they made you go through to make an account for that game, I'll never remember any of the details for it lol. I thought TESO was bad, but that game feels light years ahead of this one...

I still have to question what makes FF11 and 14 feel like Final Fantasy to people? I've played them both and neither are anything like those game and they lack story, people keep saying they have amazing stories...... I've not come across any in either game but the short opening thing that has no story to it. 

When going with the story, especially early on, the feeling, atmosphere, music, EVERYTHING is Final Fantasy. They even have character and boss throwbacks from earlier games throughout. There's a TON of story. It might not be the greatest story, but it's still awesome. You're entirely wrong about this point.

Other than that, the rest is entirely opinion that I can't argue. Either like it, get used to it, or get out, pretty much.

That's the problem.  While grouping shouldn't be an insta-accelerate button for leveling or grinding rep/honor/what have you, it's potential should be much higher than the solo progression's potential.  It's not.  ESO is probably the worst culprit I've seen of this: doing a rather challenging, instanced group dungeon (including the quest turn-in for completion) was literally the worst way to level.  It also provided very, very little in the way of monetary or loot rewards.  It was, overall, a complete waste of time to build that group and complete that dungeon.  That's just silly.

Grouping should be the fastest method of leveling/grinding in the game when done effectively, period.  To provide a solo option that competes with having a good group is doing a disservice to what it originally meant to be an MMO, in my opinion.  It may look good on the box sales initially to have such a design in place, but it won't really last or make a permanent imprint on the field.

I, personally, disagree entirely with this post. I think solo play should be a minor side feature in a group-based game, so those who can't find more than an 30 mins to 1 hour on occasion can still make SOME progression. I would never want a game that's entirely one or the other, though.

It's odd how people manage to come across so many issues, while others come across barely any. The only bugs I've come across, such as the combat action lockup, or a quest issue, could always easily be remedied by a quick hit of the ESC, or a quick re-log, respectively. At least as I'm nearing level 30. Sucks, you got the short end of the stick on this one.

- Only 5 abilities that gets boring after awhile. Unable to execute any new tactical strategies unless you swap out abilities. WHY ONLY 5 ?

Uhhh... you should know this, but you get 12 abilities including Ultimates. You can always switch out your main weapon choice for a second set of the same weapon with different abilities on the bar if you want.

- No matter how cool class abilities sound, dual weld abilities are way stronger.....No real reason to use anything else besides Dual Weld and Bow.

It's true, I've found Dual Wielding to be a bit better in most situations, although I am using Great weapons anyway.

- Mega server blows period.  Big deal the world is full of life.  At times too full.  The mega server is the root cause of most of the bugs......See that guy struggling over their ?.....Why help, why make friends with him ?....Not even any reason to say "thanks".

To be honest, this is your issue. Try and make friends, and you eventually will. You can add them to your friend list, and you will see them across all their characters as they play, and you can even right click them to port to their instance of the mega server, at the nearest Wayshrine (might be in group only, but not sure. Not a big deal regardless.)

- Mounts.  Besides PvP you don't need them.

Mounts are never a necessity in nearly all games they're a part of. They are a convenience that make you go faster. Hence, they're useful for their intended purpose.

- Zones are big, that's nice.  But the reason I like big zones is because I would like to get to know players in them, but the mega server destroys that.

No it doesn't, read my message above since you're repeating.

- Exploring was nice, and I say WAS.  By the time you hit around level 25 you know what too expect.

I don't mind the exploring, but I really only consider the exploring (aside from finding Skyshards, Lore Books, etc.) to be not a whole lot different than running from hub to hub. Just that you're not tied to a specific order of doing them.

- So much copy and past. Building interiors, private and public dungeons.  Many things are exactly the same.


- Dungeons are short, way too short.

Talking about actual instanced dungeons, or the little shit ones you find for a quick Shyshard and a boss to complete it?

- LFG tool.....strangers !

So you say you want to make friends, but you're afraid of strangers? Quite the conundrum.

- World Bosses, mindless zerg fest.  At times it's even impossible to get a shot in.

Pretty much.

- Ever notice that random mobs are ridicules easy, yet you come across one that will one shot you and impossible to kill, what's with that ?....You can't use tactics because you never know when.

Not just random mobs, no. Sometimes there's a differently named one from the rest, which should be an indicator that it could be stronger, but I've never gone from fighting a bunch of random mobs easily, to suddenly dying in one hit.

- Other than PvP you don't need a Guild.

Once again, you want to make friends, but there's no need for a guild? Sounds like you need one. Not to mention the guild store, which I haven't fully delved into. Might only be for crafting stuff, though, since I've seen full guilds dedicated to crafting because of it.

- Crafting is for the most part worthless, just hang out in a public dungeon. Equipment problem solved !

I am not sure about how it will fare in the end, but it's really dependent on what you enjoy. Some will crafting in any game, others will always find it boring. Regardless, the thing about crafting is that you can create a high quality weapon with the right materials, in any style of any race, as opposed to being limited to the style being dropped in the area you're in. As well as research traits found on weapons and armor so you can have the ones you prefer on your gear.

- Inventory and bank is listed, no arranging nothing.


- I cant stand the UI, some like no clutter, but they turn around and download mods.... what's with that crap? Abilities disappear out of combat. I can't stand that ( this could be me, but I hate it ).

Doesn't bother me any.

-Forever load screens.

Haven't had any "forever loading screens" since one of their first patches. Not sure what to tell you.

- Sloooow voice acting. I started clicking through it. But quest are nice. Solo but nice. And you never know if the end boss of a quest chain will one shot you. No preparing, because it's random. Could be easy could be hard, you never know :)

You want them to speed up the voice acting? Maybe make it high-pitched and chipmunk-like? Would that be better than reading the text yourself and clicking through instead of waiting? Something tells me you could turn off the voice acting, as well.




I never had this in Vanilla WoW, EQ2, LOTRO, D&D Online, even Vanguard was much better than this !

I absolutely love the look of this game.  It looks like it'd be really fun, at least in short bursts. Especially with those mini games.

Will likely give it a shot when it comes out, though I doubt I'd ever play it in the long-term

The game looks great, but it's not looking too good for them to make the $60000 if it's only at like $1850 as they near the halfway point.

There's lots of  stuff that I like (dynamic events, tag sharing, scalling, no sub etc.) , and lots of frustrations of course (because of it being a themepark) but my biggest complain is the way fighting is done in PvE.

In GW2, with the exception of some mob/boss that have an animated move (like, when they raise their arms), you only see the attack when it's too late. ie: when the enemy does it.

_ Also, in GW2 the bosses seems pretty straightforward. I won't compare dungeon bosses because to be honest i didn't do much, but in the open world, 99% of GW2 champions are just "avoid red circles, kill the adds, nuke it for 3 minutes". While in WoW, strategy can be very specific (dps mind-controled players, never face the boss, kite the boss, run away if you have a debuff, don't get touched by adds, avoid circles/waves/lines/stuff, interrupt specific attack, kill the adds ON the boss, AWAY from the boss or WITH the boss own attacks etc. etc.)

_ Last, I have a problem with the way dodging is implemented. While it sounded like a good idea at first, I fail to understand how it is better than the simple "run/jump out of crap" we have in others mmorpg ?

It's kinda sad because there's lots of stuff I like in GW2 combats (rezing players mid-fight, the way everyone can tank/heal/support etc.), but all in all, i feel it's a total mess and i prefer the strategic way WoW handle things.

I think you just need to get used to it more. I don't personally play GW2 a whole lot, but I go back on occasion, and the combat doesn't feel off to me. The dodge is generally in there to avoid further damage, or negate it all. If you can see an attack incoming, you can avoid entirely, and if there's a longer attack going on where you are getting hit repeatedly, you can take a hit or two and then dodge to avoid the rest when you realize, or your stamina builds back up, I believe.

I haven't done enough dungeons, but yes, I agree the world bosses and stuff are there just to be zerged down.

Anyway, I can see how the combat can come off as clunky to some, though I don't personally notice it.

Can't see this being very scary or overly fun, but I guess we'll see soon enough. The first two games were fun and pretty scary, but the third one wasn't scary in the least bit. Can only imagine this will turn out the same with multiplayer.

Books are a side thing for people REALLY into the lore. Otherwise, they're just to click bookshelves for for skill points. Too much time and money would be spent on these book VO's for something a miniscule percentage of the player base would MAYBE care about.

I've played WoW off and on since it launched in 2004. Still go back to play it here and there, and will likely go back when Warlords of Draenor is released. lol But these are now generally 1-2 month stints. So 10 years with breaks.

But without breaks, I believe it would be Asheron's Call for 3 - 3 1/2 years or so as my first MMO.

Exactly.. TV went through this period where you couldn't find anything on TV besides reality TV show. Sure there might have been a show here or there but most of those shows were canceled after a season or two. If you were a TV fan and that was your hobby. And all that was on was crap.. you would pick the least crappy show and watch it. Just because the show is doing well according to the numbers doesn't mean  that show is good. Lucky for us TV has shifted back towards plot driven shows.


Also, I am curious. Say a movie comes out and all the critics say the movie is awful, they give it an F- but the masses watch it think it is funny and it is a block buster success. Does that make it a good movie?

It is good to those that enjoyed it.

Is it so hard to accept that there is no "universal" answer - and that in fact what might be terrible to one person, might be very enjoyable to another person?

Entertainment is very subjective - some folks like Wildstar - I think it's a turd, and that is just my opinion. It doesn't mean that WS is not the best MMORPG to someone out there - I am sure it is to many.



But they enjoy it because they either lack the ability to understand the movie was bad, the experience via seeing many different types of movies so they have nothing to compare a bad movie vs a good one to.. That being said I don't think most people are too stupid to understand why a movie is bad. But they usually are too closed minded to venture outside of the blockbuster norm.

Is it so hard to accept subjectivity? No not really but if I accept it in the case of movies or video games I would not be able to stop there. I would have to extend subjectivity to anything that is not science.

I personally am a fan of subjectivity however all these dbags that use subjectivity as an argument for something. Then turns around and says oh oh no that other thing there is not subjective because that personally affects me.

Good or bad is relative to every person. Certain people are able to explain their opinions better, and point out what they consider high points or flaws eloquently, but it will never be 100% fact across the board. Regardless, these people are there to give people a gauge for what to spend money on. If they see a review or whatever from someone that they click with, they can then use that person to consistently pick movies easier, but it just doesn't work so well when you read every review from every person on the internet.

You don't need to understand 100% why you hate or love something to hate or love something. This is entertainment, nothing more.

Of course they're not. They are catering to an addiction. They know people will pay not for what they want, but what they think they need.
