Is EQ just nostalgia, or was it really that good?
Hogcaller Inn (General) « Everquest 6/07/13 11:38:02 PM
EQ has a feeling like no other associated with it when I think of it. And I only played it for 2 months. I can't even come close to explaining it, but it's one of the best feelings I've ever had from a video game in my life. It's like.... EQ was a world, not a game. But it was mostly the lore and the look of it. The gameplay was somewhat boring, but decent, and I could tell there was depth at some point, but the grind was just too much, and even when I had all the time in the world to play it, I didn't like how much time it took grinding the levels and gaining new abilities. Most of my time was spent clicking a button once to attack, and then waiting for the enemy to die. Combat was fun to a degree, however, because it kept you on the edge of your seat just watching the fight go on a lot of the time. The fights would be so close sometimes, and I always kept saying to myself "Come on, come on, don't die" etc. while wide-eyed and staring intensely at my health bar. lol This is when death mattered in an MMO. But yes, at this point it's mainly nostalgia. |

I expect a teaser trailer at E3, but that's about it. 10 seconds of straight up cinematics. No in-game footage, just enough to get people talking.

[General Article] Dragon's Prophet: Review in Progress #1
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/06/13 8:49:11 PM
I am sorta enjoying this game. Not sure if I'll stick with it long, but it's pretty fun so far, especially the dragons. Pretty cool. The combat lag is a bit annoying at times, but it's not terrible. Sometimes I'll start attacking and somehow rubberband behind the enemies facing away from them and shit like that, though. Also questing is relatively boring, and the cutscene voice acting doesn't even match the text most of the time. But still, not bad so far up to level 13 anyway. |

This game REALLY needs a drop-in/out party system.
General Discussion « Neverwinter 6/06/13 12:22:04 PM
That's good to hear, khartokhar. I found their sticky on General Discussion on their forums, and it was entirely too vague for me to be clear on whether or not this issue will be address among the changes. Still, hope for the future! And flizzer, I can understand why you would give up on them for now, at least in regards to dungeons and PvP. Dungeons are so horribly boring compared to the rest of the game, I find, and I'm not personally a big PvP guy (especially with only the one mode available at least up 'til 39 which is farthest I've gotten), but at least the Skirmishes are somewhat fun and quick, if nothing overly special. What are your main issues you want addressed? |

This game REALLY needs a drop-in/out party system.
General Discussion « Neverwinter 6/06/13 10:33:51 AM
It's frustrating spending nearly an hour on a dungeon, just to have one person leave at the final boss and then be unable to finish. I haven't finished the Mad Dragon dungeon, and I just went through this in the Idris dungeon as well. This is one game I would expect this to be in in some form, since most of its gameplay is pretty streamlined and quickly accessible. Blah, oh well. Back to the grind. |

Sounds amazing, and much closer to FFXI's job system, which I loved. Can't wait for August 27!

Can someone explain to me the appeal of F2P games?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/02/13 12:22:22 PM
What else does there need to be? People don't want to pay, and the companies aren't making them (right away). Unless you have tons of money, people will always chose the one that costs less, and free is as little as they need to be. F2P is ruining the genre, in my opinion, but what can ya do? |
|
Originally posted by rutaq The vomiting part was about the guy in the quote being unwilling to pay the $15 a month for the game, and said it and every game should be free. You got it backwards. |
|
Originally posted by Loktofeit Well, not exactly. He was talking about everyone criticizing the OP's response to the quote, not that more people seemed to be confused about what part caused the response. Nitpicking, I guess. |
|
Originally posted by colddog04 The only real difference between them is that P2P is for those who want immersion, and not to be constantly nagged about what can be bought in a cash shop. The base games are all generally similar quality (well... maybe not most of the Asian anime clones). |
|
Originally posted by Homitu To be honest, it was blatantly obvious that the guy was talking about the person he quoted talking about how P2P is dead today, and how $15 a month is too expensive and every MMO should be F2P. More than one person didn't understand what he was objecting to, and only the one person thought the OP actually wrote it. His post here wasn't directed only to the person who thought he wrote what was quoted. |
|
Originally posted by colddog04 Ok, then put it another way. If they're saying $15/month is EXPENSIVE, then they still have issues, because it's NOT EXPENSIVE!

Originally posted by strangeside To be fair, though, the sub-based games were getting really bad, as well, and really, it's almost been a decade since we've seen decent quality sub games like WoW, CoH, FFXI, etc.. People were shafted with supposed AAA games like SWTOR, WAR, AoC, etc., that I guess you can't really blame them for not wanting to pay for a box and fee up front. The quality difference was not there, but the convenience of not having to worry about cash shops is what I enjoyed. It is just more immersive and fun.

Sub will forever be the better option in my opinion. I just can't understand for the life of me how people can prefer F2P.

this game is more complex than it lets on...

[Column] General: Stereotyping Men in Videogames
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/01/13 9:22:43 AM
Originally posted by Razeekster I found it funny, that at every restaurant, fast food place, etc., that I've worked at, everyone just acts gay jokingly. I've never really worried much about it, but when it comes to heroes in games and movies, I do find I generally prefer straight if there is anything sexual at all going on, because I can relate to it more. In the end, as long as the game is fun, though, I don't think I'd have TOO much of a problem... just as long as they don't go over the top and have a gay guy be a crossdressing, make-up wearing, skinny boy who might as well be a chick but they decided to add him in as "male" to be controversial. As for now, though, you can always play the Dragon Age games and choose gay options, if you'd like. That seems to be the closest you'll get at the moment. |

Originally posted by RoadRebel Hmm... now that you say it, I do remember getting 2 in-game mails about it, but that's all. I've never seen any in chat, at least while I was paying attention. |

Tragedy: Oculus Rift co-founder/engineer killed as bystander in car chase
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 6/01/13 8:41:17 AM
Originally posted by Phaserlight It's not really a reminder to be careful while driving. The guy was hit by a speeding car that was fleeing from police as he walked on a crosswalk. If anything, it's a reminder to not let your guard down and always be cautious and observant of your surroundings to try and avoid problems, but even then, not everything is avoidable, or even able to be seen. Sure hope the guy that killed him gets what's coming to him. |
