Innovation and convenience do not always go hand in hand. We're clearly talking about convenience here moreso than innovation, so you should change the title of this thread.
It's about time that they admitted it, even if it's too late at this point. Still, it was clearly obvious from the start. I am wondering what these solutions are that they're working on, though.

Hmm... odd how I never participate in PvP, and somehow still play MMORPG's! The reality  is that MMORPG's only make sense to YOU if there's PvP. To me, PvP is a side attraction for when I feel a little bored of the PvE at the time. It's nothing but a mini-game. But I understand to others it's just the opposite. As long as they have a lot of content for both, I don't really care if PvP is in the game, however. Unless they're doing all of their class balancing in terms of PvP, then it's annoying.
MMORPG's are not about pve or pvp they are about COMMUNITY..when will people start to understand that fact. You can have all the content in the world but if the community is shit you'll end up with a toxic experience.

Yup. Community is important, sure, but if the rest of the game sucks, I'm not gonna stick around for a chat room.

You'll stick around if the people you are playing with are worth sticking around for.

Uh, just because you believe that doesn't make it true for everyone.  If I make friends and they're worth it, I'll add them to facebook, or skype or something, and try and play other games here and there or something. There's been plenty of times where I've lost interest in a game, even though I've had a great guild and people I talk to, and just never log in again suddenly.

I don't put a lot of stock in online friendships, though. I have enough RL friends that I don't really worry about whether or not I make lasting relationships in a game.

This is one game I was hoping to be vaporware. :(

At first, I read it and was just confused, even though I've played through this part of the Living Story in GW2.

Then after reading Bill's summary at the end, I understood it, but it still wasn't funny. I mean, it's better than the first one, at least, but this comic needs better writing.

The art was decent, I guess, but it just isn't funny at all.

FFXIV:ARR was at PAX east, I don't believe they had a booth, or if they did i must have missed it. They did have a 1 hour panel where they talked about the game and gave everyone beta keys which is supposed to start in a week's time. I'm new to final fantasy so i can't say much about it other than that it seemed like a fun game and the fans attending were exicited. I will give it a try once the beta comes out. 

Sounds about right. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.

This site is made for ALL things related to MMORPG's, not just the games YOU enjoy. These Scarlet Blade ads, as well as the game itself, might suck, but it's still a part of the genre, so why should they refuse them the right to advertise on here with their money?

You might think them stupid for doing it, but as a business, they'd be even more stupid not to accept these ads. I doubt this place is cheap to run.

This game seems like such a joke. I can't understand how ANYONE would ever want to play or throw money at this game in any way.

But whatever, to each their own. I supposed it's aimed at the type of people who would, say, roll an Elin in Tera.

I definitely agree with it being a step backwards for the genre, however.

The no online connection bit was confirmed last month. Do some research on your own.

[mod edit]  Of the links you provided, only the second one has direct quotes to confirm.  Given it was written yesterday and is the only one of it's kind, it's not asking too much to be provided with it FROM A FRIGGIN NEWS WEBSITE LIKE THIS ONE.   FFS pull your head out. 

 

He cites concern for duping with an AH, does that imply no online game trading of items at all?  Or just more BS from bliz I wonder.

Though the guy does say: “There were some technical reasons we had to go with offline, but again once you have an offline experience, even if we wanted to bring in the auction house, it just becomes problematic. How do you validate? How do you make sure there is no duping or any of that stuff?”

So it seems to mean no gold AH, as well. But we'll see how it progresses. I find it funny that he basically says they were forced to go offline due to technical limitations. Don't think that Blizzard has learned anything -- in reality, if there weren't technical limitations, the PS3/4 version of D3 would have had DRM and AH just like the PC.

Sounds like this game is definitely not ready for launch in a little over a week. Wonder if they'll pull off some miracle patches before then.

If I had the ability to trade in my PC version for the PS3 version, I'd do it, but I'll never buy this game again. It sounds like it'll be WAY more fun on consoles than the PC version, however, which is a real shame for what was a PC-based series.

It'll sell well, no doubt, but it's really too bad they didn't release the original PC game with the same frame of mind. Hell, even if they wanted to keep some form of DRM and just removed the AH, I'd have been happy.

Well, I mean happy as long as I ignore the crappy storyline as well.

People can bitch about what a disappointing announcement this is, but I've known plenty of people who play card games, and while it's not my cup of tea, I know those people and the countless others in the worldl like them are gonna eat this up. I can see this becoming very popular.

I don't think the majority of people here are questioning whether he's right or wrong. This is really more about the source of the statement, and the irony of it all, as well as whether they believe he's just aiming for publicity to help his kickstarter game, and whether or not that in itself is a cash grab.

Yes, the game was "rushed" out the door after only a 7ish year development cycle. ;)

Apparently Mr. Garriott had no clear vision for the actual game, and was just throwing out ideas and hoping for the best, so a couple years into it, he decided everything had to be redone from nearly scratch, then during the second version of the game, they still didn't have anything solid until just around the time NcSoft pushed the game out the door. By solid, of course, I mean a barely workable version of the game that wasn't very fun.

He wasted years of time and money on this game, NcSoft tried to screw him over for his stock options because of it all, but in the end, he sued them and won $27 million.

To be honest, both sides acted poorly at times, but ultimately, it was Garriott's lack of direction and shitty design skills that caused the game to fail. Nice and ironic.

Anyway, Garriott sued NcSoft because of lost money from stock options he lost from the departure, not because they somehow ruined his game. He did prove, however, that he's capable of making money regardless of whether or not he's any good at what he does.
