As with nebb1234, my first thoughts after watching were to comment on that disclaimer at the end. Was it really necessary? Will people get angry if the devs were to personally believe that dinosaurs and humans coexisted?
The tears sustain those who don't succumb.

People who focus too heavily on the combat instead of the game as a whole will likely not enjoy the leveling process. I personally enjoyed the combat from the beginning and thought it was awesome, though I was more focused on the atmosphere, story and other stuff.

The combat does get intense near the end. The regular dungeons aren't overly hard or anything (mostly), but the primal fights, and raids if you choose to do them, are the real challenge. These primal fights aren't all at the end-game, and there are a few during the main story starting around level 20 that are somewhat challenging if you're new to them, or better yet, the entire team is new, but you'll likely end up getting some experienced players at this point and the fights may seem trivial.

Anyway, love this game, yada yada, people who like it can like it, people who hate it can go somewhere else. No point in arguing about it.

Do not miss this if you play the game. I personally am excited for Encrypted Tomestones coming in 2.55 on March 31st.

Very important info here. Please watch so you don't get messed up pre ordering.

Aside from the content coming in 2.55, it all pretty much known already. Looking forward to the 3ish hours of new story leading into Heavensward more than anything. :D

Yup, this is a person who obviously has never played an MMO in his life(Edit: Oh, except GW2 I guess), and appears to not be mentally equipped to handle the learning curve, so he's throwing a tantrum instead of putting in any effort. Being someone into MMO's for like 15 years now, it's funny how this whole post comes off trollish to me.

I've never understood why seamless vs. non-seamless was ever an issue. If the atmosphere is great during those non-seamless zones, who cares if you have to load a bit here and there between others?

It's simply nitpicking. Get over it.

If you're going to throw it out there like this, maybe it should be good? It sounds like the intro to an 80s british tv series,(not the kind in American syndication) wherein the medieval protagonists live a meager, tragic existence selling dirt clogs.

Care to give an actual example? I'm curious if this is true.

Are you enabling me, here, Sovrath?

Hmm, an example of bad, synthesized 80s british music for a medieval tv program. How about this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8uMvUgnpwI

"Good mixture of different musical instruments..." ~ Reklaw

If by "different musical instruments" you mean synthesized computer sounds, sure, it's a good mixture of them.

Look, I'm saying, if you're going to spotlight music, it should be something..."spotlightable"... like, this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH-Qw2pbrNk

The music is fine for a kickstarter mmo. If that's what you call "good", more power to you, there's plenty of it out there so you'll have plenty to enjoy. I'm just not one to kneejerk, "ooo that's so gooood", raising false senses of accomplishment, when I don't feel it is. That's neither kind nor productive.

He asked, I answered. Sovrath asked for elaboration, I accommodated. I'm not interested in seeming "trolling", just expressing my opinion. I don't suppose there's much else for me to say here for now.

Hey Adjuvant1,

I guess I should say first, I've been a composer long enough to have the skin necessary to discuss my work in most settings, and have my work discussed in varying degrees of commendation and criticism. You don't need to worry about raising false senses of accomplishment with me. Thanks for bringing an honest opinion to the thread. Certainly, if you don't like the piece, I appreciate your perspective and I enjoy hearing your reasoning. But I feel the need to respond, as you seem to take issue with anyone appreciating this piece of music. Please humor me:

Some things I find interesting about your feedback:

(1) I'm not sure I trust your ability to distinguish live instrumentation vs. sampled instrumentation vs. digital instrumentation vs. synthesizer sounds (specifically because of the Clannad music you referenced)

(2) I'm not sure how familiar you are with Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, but we are still very early in development. These musical pieces are meant to give those who follow the game a taste of some of the musical themes that are developing - in other words, these are by no means fully finished and polished pieces, largely because the budget is not currently available for live orchestral recordings. Therefore, holding a single, essentially 'demo' piece up to 2 hours of a "Full Deluxe Soundtrack" for a very high budget game, recorded by live orchestra with a high dollar sound engineer and mastering house - it's almost hard for me to understand what you're trying to communicate overall. My only thought would be that you don't believe anything indie, or lower budget, or demo/unfinished should be shown to the public, even within a crowd-funded project that is focused on developmental transparency (which we are).

(3) You don't seem to understand the audience this music is being created for. P:RotF is, in many ways, the spiritual successor to Everquest 1 and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. In my music compositions for Pantheon, I'm paying careful attention to the music of those games, because people absolutely loved it, and so do I. To add a few examples that are probably more relevant to this specific discussion, have a listen to the main themes of both of those games:

Everquest 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PttciaUv9s (this is much more in line with the synthesizer music you were describing earlier - not indicative of the current age of sampled instrumentation that digital composers use)

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t18zWmxaMoI (recorded with live orchestra)

To be clear, the piece Kilsin linked in the OP is not Pantheon's main theme, but these two pieces above represent fairly iconic examples of the music of both games, and the musical 'heart' of what I'm trying to bring into Pantheon's music. I can anticipate the response you would have to both of those pieces of music though, and therefore I'm not sure you appreciate what is going to make a musical soundtrack for Pantheon appropriate and successful.

I appreciate you coming in and linking to the Civilization V soundtrack (which is a masterpiece), but I'm ultimately not sure of what you're trying to communicate, other than to say you don't like this piece of music and in your opinion others shouldn't either?

Anyway, back to the song: I thought it was decent, nothing overly special, but with a name like Terminus, one shouldn't really be expecting an epic, high energy, whatever sort of song. As he said, it's not an entirely finished piece, and it did sort of sound that way. Still, not bad. It probably would work better in the game, I'm sure.

As rough as it sounds, this is satisfying to watch.

The community has had it with the false promises, the intense WoW-copying  and the incopetense of many developers to deliver anything worthwhile, especially in an era when two guys and a laptop call themselves indie and produce gems.

The genre is changing.

Dude, really? "Incopetense."

"Incompetence!"

How ironic that this backfired for you. :P

The only dude I really knew involved with EQN was Dave Georgeson. I'm surprised hear he's leaving, since he was pretty much the main speaker at every EQN interview that I saw. Seemed like a huge part. Still, it is what it is. Can't fight it. I guess they're making cuts to afford their "independence." It can't be helped.

This music is totally Power Metal-esque.  It was terrific. Besides that, it keeps true to the original Dragon's Dogma grabbing to enemies, and animations in general, so I'm kinda looking forward to it. I just don't like the F2P genre in general that goes along with it. We'll see how it goes in time, but it sounds like it'll start awesome and end shitty.

Worry about 2017 in 2017. UNtil then, enjoy the game, and quit in a couple months when you're bored.
Yikes.. I hope this isn't replacing Dragon's Dogma 2. I would rather a single player game with a great multiplayer component.
An accurate analogy for this game, in my experiences. Wasn't actually much of a review, though.

[3] So if you think it's P2W don't buy it. Don't play it.

This is the CEO of a billion dollar company essentially telling you to fuck off if you don't like it. He must be pretty sure this will make millions even with all the lies and "Pay2Win". Buying this in EarlyAccess to help make it better seems pretty stupid when the CEO tells you he does not care what people think.

This right here makes me think your entire post was arguing about how they're lying, yet you don't actually want them to tell you as it is.  He told you exactly what you and all players should do: If you don't like their decisions, don't buy it. It's not telling players to fuck off, that's your pessimism when faced with the reality of the situation.

I don't know, I kinda like the dailies as they are right now. Gets people to different zones to run events or whatever else. Pound them out in like an hour or so, get some rewards, yada, yada. It is what it is.

unlike other MMO's that age with time, this is the first that has made playing content at level cap more painful and reduced replay value.

What a shame.

.

Completely disagree. The zones are smaller, and the flight paths are quicker and more numerous to accomodate the land travel. Not to mention you now have a Garrison hearthstone as well as your normal, and if you choose the Inn or whatever in Arak, you can travel back there quick while in that zone. Also if you choose the Stables I believe, you can get your mount speed increased by 20%.

Flying mounts would only ruin things. But if you hate it so much, then wait until next expansion to play this one. They'll likely add it in to make it quicker to get through WoD when that happens.

I would like Squeenix to do like Capcom did with Mega Man and go old-school with the series again, even just as a side project, and sell it online. Bring on those 16-bit graphics.

Honestly not sure why this title didn't flop. It's full of everything that has caused every other game (except WoW, and even that has lost millions of subs over the past few years) to fail or, at least, not do as well as hoped.

*Lack luster samey-questing ! system. Same-old-style combat mechanics

*Small, linear zones with invisible walls everywhere and mobs packed in so tight exploration for the sake of fun is not even possible Lots of loading screens

* Excessive grinding to level up once you've exhausted quests on your first or second job

* Generic races

* No endgame beyond raiding, raiding, raiding

* No intuitive "alternative leveling" path for people who don't enjoy raiding other than crafting

* Crafting mini-game is pretty banal - not really even as good as EQ2's crafting minigames

* Economy borked

The pros? * Pretty graphics

*Final Fantasy Name

* uhm....?

Yeah, I don't get it either. If this game had been called Save the World Reborn or Hero Journey Reborn it would have failed miserably as another "WoW-clone Asian grinder with pretty graphics". *shrug* This coming from someone who loved both vanilla WoW and vanilla FFXI

All opinion, buddy. The races aren't overly generic unless you compare them to FFXI only.

The questing is pretty bland after the first time through, but was the most fun questing I'd done since WoW first came out in 2004, the first time through.

I wouldn't say excessive grinding for alternate classes. It only takes a few days to a week max depending on how much you play per class.

There're more to end-game than just raiding if you get into more than just raiding. Dungeons, getting and upgrading your relic weapon, chocobo raising, additional storyline quests and side story quests being added, Beast Tribe dailies with more storyline stuff, Primals (which I don't consider raiding), PvP. You could also just be crafting exclusively and selling shit.

Crafting might be boring to you and me, but it has people playing it almost exclusively, and there's some story associated with it if you're into it.

Plus the pretty graphics and Final Fantasy name. ;)

These "explain to me" threads never turn into more than arguments.

In the end, to me, I prefer the method of storytelling, atmosphere, combat and animations, primal fights/big boss battles in the game, and the quality of such being beyond any other game in terms of my own preferences.

There is no explanation. You either like it, or you move on. Period.
