Anyway, yeah, they've been banning people for RMT from the start, it's just not very often. They need to add a higher blacklist amount than 200, as well as make a clear option to quickly report these RMT spammers. If below "add to blacklist" has a "Report and Blacklist" it would be nice.

How often is 'often enough'?

Time Period: Apr. 16, 2015 to Apr. 29, 2015

It seems that based off the time stamp that they do bannings every two weeks.  That's pretty often.

Oh maybe I just haven't noticed. Seems like it's only every few months that I see something regarding RMT.

So 14,000 people out of what... 4-5 million?  That that's roughly .28% of the people that have played FFXIV, I can't, even in the darkest reaches of my imagination, believe that only .28% of players have participated in RMT.  It's probably closer to 30%

With all respect their player base is closer to 500-700k subs for 14, not whatever number you stated.

It is a good game though.

Also, not sure where you are getting that 30% of any player base would be participating in illicit activity...

They have had 4 million accounts created i guess.  How many still sub... who knows.

AND  that link is a bit over a year old? at least this was at bottom of that article:

Updated: These MMO figures actually come from an original financial report that was filed on March 31st, 2014

But either way they are banning accounts they say. And that was in like 1 month? So they have a lot of trial accounts i would bet that are finding ways to participate in RMT.  Dunno...never played yet. So not sure how they set up the trial system. If it was paid accounts...then they at least made some cash off of them before the ban.

A math whiz does some work and tells us less than 1 million based off the EXTREMELY (probably intentionally so) VAGUE info that SE has been giving us.

Because that's more helpful... lol

Sorry OP, this is most definitely an issue on your end. I've had a crash here and there, but I have never experienced constant disconnects or anything and I've put in quite a bit of time into the game

I don't think I've ever read something so short and so wrong at the same time.

Monetization and quality have nothing to do with each other.

And yet, still somehow works out as I said regardless. But this is just my personal opinion. I've never played an F2P game that wasn't F2P for a reason. AAA quality doesn't come free.

Regardless of how you feel about the game, to me, the graphics; the storyline; the atmosphere of the zones, and especially the gameplay; everything fits with the theme and pace of this epic game.

I play other games when I could be playing FFXIV from time to time, sure, but this game captures my attention and emotions like no other MMO available.

Call Squeenix greedy for whatever reasons. YoshiP and the development team is showing way more enthusiasm and competence than any other MMO on the market.

Heavensward is nearing. Soon we cast our grief and fear to the sky.

Best MMO out there hands down.

Couldn't agree more. Granted, it gets boring rather quickly for an MMO of its caliber. It's definitely the most polished AAA MMO out there right now. I think the only other contender is FFXIV:ARR...content wise it's definitely way ahead of GW2.

Most definitely. I don't think there is a game out there that competes with FFXIV when it comes to content being added. GW2 is good for what it is, and at ten dollars, most definitely worth the price. It is great for a casual MMO or as an in between games kind of game.

When FFXIV will have any kind of viable PvP lmk. PvP there is retarded.

AND you have to pay a sub AND have cash shop ob top of that.

And FFXIV gets boring very quickly, and its good only if you are into endles repeating of dungeons/raids geargrind. Not worth the sub+cash shop.

Also it has very bad latency delay of couple of seconds.

All in all, GW2 beats it in pretty much any way. FFXIV would be decent if it was F2P.

they dont even have Euro servers. Sorry, thats not AAA service.

As FFXIV;ARR very definitely does have Euro Servers, which kind of ridicules the rest of your post tbh, how about, instead of trying to denigrate another game, you just say what it is you actually like about GW2, because at the moment, i can't tell if you have every played it, and are just pandering.

where are they located in Europe?

It is pretty clear that you don't play the game nor follow the game. They are moving the servers to Europe. It was announced with the new expansion. The cash shop is minimal. There are tons of things to do outside of raiding or getting gear. Everything from chocobo racing to housing to the minigames in the Golden Saucer. The amount of content that they have added in the last year and a half far exceeds any other MMO during that time. Also, unless you are wanting to have tons of characters on several servers, the sub is even discounted. To top it off, FFXIV has survived as a P2P game, something that almost no other game has managed to do since WoW. GW2 is decent for a F2P game, but it would never survive as a P2P game.

GW2 is B2P though.

FFXIV's survival is attributed to being a tab-target P2P mmo, the last refuge for that demographic.  It's only competitor is WoW, which is a 10 year old game, so it's no surprise that it's taking in those demographic refugees.  The game is mediocre at best, and no different than all the tab-target "themepark" MMO's currently out there.

Its FF and east is kinda into FF. Never underestimate how much company can explot ip.

SQIX has became greedy little bunch, stopping development on FFXI and still charging sub, FFXIV sub and they implement CASH SHOP on TOP of sub, because "they will use money for Euro servers"....that they cant even pay form some imaginary "millions" that play (and pay) for the game.

Dude, shut up with your greed crap. The cash shop isn't in any way necessary to to the enjoyment of the game, they give the stuff in-game over time if you play and sub long enough, like Fantasia's, but they give alternative ways to purchase it if you use your free ones and then change your mind. Stop using a cash shop as an excuse to project your distrust and paranoia on others.

I am currently paying less monthyl for my sub, and getting more content for less than EVERY SINGLE OTHER MMO OUT THERE. Period. (The exception being unless you've paid nothing for an F2P and played it for years.)

Have fun. ;)

Last time I played FFXIV: A Realm Reborn I had the following issues

  • Fate Grinding - Bored me to death and unfortunately that was the most efficient way to level.** With boosted xp from levequests, daily dungeons and the addition of the challenge log, FATE's are now primarily a side thing while leveling.
  • English Dubs - Broke my immersion; I could not take this amateurish acting serious. ** You can turn on subtitles in the options if you want, or just turn of all voices entirely.
  • Forced to skip my story/cutscenes - Due to being forced to group up with others that were speed-running the main story event. **Only really happens on a couple dungeons, but you're not forced, you're just kinda pressured. But regardless, people are strong enough that you can watch the cutscenes and they'll just keep fighting the mobs as you do.
  • Intentional and consistent delay in PvE - Apparently to compensate for the inferior consoles as a PC gamer.**Not sure what you mean by this.
  • Stupendously Dark Soulish feeling - These one-shot boss mechanics and the fact I had to adjust my play-style to move 2 seconds before the boss's ability hits me was the last straw.**Git gud u casul
  • Slow Raid pacing - Every time I was finishing an instance, I had no motivation or passion to either re-do it for better gear or move to a different one straight away.**Oh well. I've never been into raiding in any game, can't really argue.
  • Uninspiring instance environments - Bland designs that lacked originality  that made the whole process of being there as a chore rather than an enjoyment.** All I can say about this is that I strongly disagree.
  • Piss-poor money-making design - I never understood from day one why I did not have the option to make money via selling-loot from instances. Instead this game emphasized social inequality where the rich were getting richer and the poor poorer. I remember spending many days trying to pretend that I am enjoying all sorts of "gathering and crafting" until grinding finally got the best out of me and I stopped. **I sell a lot of random shit on the AH and make a good amount of money. Just because you can't sell gear doesn't mean you can sell stuff you find.
  • Painfully slow and boring combat - When the Ninja Job came out I thought I would be able to ignore the above and start over but the awful animations put me off; thought from seeing some 2015 videos it appears that Ninja animations are way better and more eye-catching. **The combat gets pretty fast-paced and intense later. I've never understood this argument. I just don't see it as slow.
  • Hunt System - Having enter servers doing one activity for massive hours and nothing else. **Also it's an entirely optional activity for those who don't feel like doing dungeons and stuff. You never have to do a single Hunt if you don't want to.
  • Extremely Long Queues as a DPS - Will never forget the 2-3 hour daily queues regardless the time of the day.**It's not so bad these days, as DPS I can generally get into a dungeon or guildhest while leveling within 10-20 mins, and at cap, I often get in between 5-10. Sometimes it's instant if lucky.
  • Probably one the worst random group making systems - 99% were wipes and 1% one-shots; see WoW with its perfect system. **WoW is a much easier game to faceroll in its queueable content.
  • Cash Shop introduction and controversies - Not even going to bother with this one.**Meh, nothing necessary to playing the game is sold, and your fav game WoW takes this much farther.
  • PvP - What? ** Yeah, never felt compelled to really get into PvP, but it's not bad apparently.

These were massive turn-offs as a new player and I didn't last more than 4-5 months. I really, really wanted to love this game because it had for me one of the best producers any MMOrpg can dream of but I couldn't pretend to have fun and throw my money out like a fanboy of the Final Fantasy franchise. It is not a fun MMOrpg; you can have a good time or fun but overall it is a very frustrating MMOrpg that often feels that it focuses more on fan-servicing than gameplay improvements itself. Add that to one of the worst again Mod forum team where players get banned  for criticizing heavily SE or the game itself on issues such as RTM (which suffers heavily) and you get the full picture.

Lastly having such a well-known company such as Square Enix refusing to report actual subscriber numbers while doing everything humanly possible to produce bullshit numbers; multiple times referring to registered accounts, mixing 3 game accounts into one number, as well as showing its greedy corporate face on numerous occasions and there you have it.

Short version, FFXIV is not good enough; is not revolutionary enough; is not premium MMOrpg enough to charge an expansion.

Anyway, it's easy to tell most of you experience with this game was in the earlier days. Mainly just opinion and ignorance.

"FFXIV should not charge for expansions because people who don't like it won't buy it." :P

For people who enjoy the game, they're adding in as much if not more content than the base game. That's well worth the money.

Best game and best developers out there, atm, by far.

First, I'll say that I will gladly pay for the additional content because I "get it". However, I remember when Destiny was released there was all this hoopla about how Witcher developers were "Taking a stand against paid DLC

Just found it funny that so many used articles from CDPR to essentially turn Bungie into villians, and then Witcher is doing the same. It should be noted that, to my knowledge, CDPR never charged for DLC in their previous versions.

Again, not saying that some paid DLC isn't justified, just saying that it's kinda crappy that they would go on the record, disrespecting all other developers in that way and then turn around and do the same themselves. *chomp chomp* is that humble pie? I think it is!!!

This was my first thought. But then I went to check on those articles, and I guess I remembered wrong. They were talking mainly about small dlc, like how games add exclusive weapons for a couple bucks or something.

"“Yeah, we are making a statement,” he added. “We, as gamers, would like to be treated this way, 'Hey, give me free DLC.' It doesn't have to be something huge. And I'm saying we aren't giving out huge stuff, we aren't giving tens of hours of storyline here, we are giving small bits of pieces that don't cost a lot. And I think people would feel better about our game, and, so, they will enjoy the adventure even more.""

An extra 30 hours, if the game is enjoyable, is not bad to pay for. I mean, games like Call of Duty gives out a few extra multiplayer maps for like $15, that's some bullshit right there.

And how long without the un-ending dialogue with NPC's? That is what ruined the WII for me.

Valid point!

Valid indeed. Right now I'm playing Star Ocean: The Last Hope (4th and prolly last in the series) and I have 20 hours on the clock already. That has brought me to Roak (5th location) and I think there's still a long way to go. But when I look at the amount of cutscenes I've had till now - guess it's about half the time played...

How you played Star Ocean: The Last Hope beyond the first couple hours shows more dedication than that game is worth. I salute you.

As with nebb1234, my first thoughts after watching were to comment on that disclaimer at the end. Was it really necessary? Will people get angry if the devs were to personally believe that dinosaurs and humans coexisted?
The tears sustain those who don't succumb.

People who focus too heavily on the combat instead of the game as a whole will likely not enjoy the leveling process. I personally enjoyed the combat from the beginning and thought it was awesome, though I was more focused on the atmosphere, story and other stuff.

The combat does get intense near the end. The regular dungeons aren't overly hard or anything (mostly), but the primal fights, and raids if you choose to do them, are the real challenge. These primal fights aren't all at the end-game, and there are a few during the main story starting around level 20 that are somewhat challenging if you're new to them, or better yet, the entire team is new, but you'll likely end up getting some experienced players at this point and the fights may seem trivial.

Anyway, love this game, yada yada, people who like it can like it, people who hate it can go somewhere else. No point in arguing about it.

Do not miss this if you play the game. I personally am excited for Encrypted Tomestones coming in 2.55 on March 31st.

Very important info here. Please watch so you don't get messed up pre ordering.

Aside from the content coming in 2.55, it all pretty much known already. Looking forward to the 3ish hours of new story leading into Heavensward more than anything. :D

Yup, this is a person who obviously has never played an MMO in his life(Edit: Oh, except GW2 I guess), and appears to not be mentally equipped to handle the learning curve, so he's throwing a tantrum instead of putting in any effort. Being someone into MMO's for like 15 years now, it's funny how this whole post comes off trollish to me.

I've never understood why seamless vs. non-seamless was ever an issue. If the atmosphere is great during those non-seamless zones, who cares if you have to load a bit here and there between others?

It's simply nitpicking. Get over it.

If you're going to throw it out there like this, maybe it should be good? It sounds like the intro to an 80s british tv series,(not the kind in American syndication) wherein the medieval protagonists live a meager, tragic existence selling dirt clogs.

Care to give an actual example? I'm curious if this is true.

Are you enabling me, here, Sovrath?

Hmm, an example of bad, synthesized 80s british music for a medieval tv program. How about this...

"Good mixture of different musical instruments..." ~ Reklaw

If by "different musical instruments" you mean synthesized computer sounds, sure, it's a good mixture of them.

Look, I'm saying, if you're going to spotlight music, it should be something..."spotlightable"... like, this...

The music is fine for a kickstarter mmo. If that's what you call "good", more power to you, there's plenty of it out there so you'll have plenty to enjoy. I'm just not one to kneejerk, "ooo that's so gooood", raising false senses of accomplishment, when I don't feel it is. That's neither kind nor productive.

He asked, I answered. Sovrath asked for elaboration, I accommodated. I'm not interested in seeming "trolling", just expressing my opinion. I don't suppose there's much else for me to say here for now.

Hey Adjuvant1,

I guess I should say first, I've been a composer long enough to have the skin necessary to discuss my work in most settings, and have my work discussed in varying degrees of commendation and criticism. You don't need to worry about raising false senses of accomplishment with me. Thanks for bringing an honest opinion to the thread. Certainly, if you don't like the piece, I appreciate your perspective and I enjoy hearing your reasoning. But I feel the need to respond, as you seem to take issue with anyone appreciating this piece of music. Please humor me:

Some things I find interesting about your feedback:

(1) I'm not sure I trust your ability to distinguish live instrumentation vs. sampled instrumentation vs. digital instrumentation vs. synthesizer sounds (specifically because of the Clannad music you referenced)

(2) I'm not sure how familiar you are with Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, but we are still very early in development. These musical pieces are meant to give those who follow the game a taste of some of the musical themes that are developing - in other words, these are by no means fully finished and polished pieces, largely because the budget is not currently available for live orchestral recordings. Therefore, holding a single, essentially 'demo' piece up to 2 hours of a "Full Deluxe Soundtrack" for a very high budget game, recorded by live orchestra with a high dollar sound engineer and mastering house - it's almost hard for me to understand what you're trying to communicate overall. My only thought would be that you don't believe anything indie, or lower budget, or demo/unfinished should be shown to the public, even within a crowd-funded project that is focused on developmental transparency (which we are).

(3) You don't seem to understand the audience this music is being created for. P:RotF is, in many ways, the spiritual successor to Everquest 1 and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. In my music compositions for Pantheon, I'm paying careful attention to the music of those games, because people absolutely loved it, and so do I. To add a few examples that are probably more relevant to this specific discussion, have a listen to the main themes of both of those games:

Everquest 1 - (this is much more in line with the synthesizer music you were describing earlier - not indicative of the current age of sampled instrumentation that digital composers use)

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes - (recorded with live orchestra)

To be clear, the piece Kilsin linked in the OP is not Pantheon's main theme, but these two pieces above represent fairly iconic examples of the music of both games, and the musical 'heart' of what I'm trying to bring into Pantheon's music. I can anticipate the response you would have to both of those pieces of music though, and therefore I'm not sure you appreciate what is going to make a musical soundtrack for Pantheon appropriate and successful.

I appreciate you coming in and linking to the Civilization V soundtrack (which is a masterpiece), but I'm ultimately not sure of what you're trying to communicate, other than to say you don't like this piece of music and in your opinion others shouldn't either?

Anyway, back to the song: I thought it was decent, nothing overly special, but with a name like Terminus, one shouldn't really be expecting an epic, high energy, whatever sort of song. As he said, it's not an entirely finished piece, and it did sort of sound that way. Still, not bad. It probably would work better in the game, I'm sure.

As rough as it sounds, this is satisfying to watch.

The community has had it with the false promises, the intense WoW-copying  and the incopetense of many developers to deliver anything worthwhile, especially in an era when two guys and a laptop call themselves indie and produce gems.

The genre is changing.

Dude, really? "Incopetense."

How ironic that this backfired for you. :P
