I am not a fan of F2P, to be honest, but there really is no correlation between the downtimes/other issues and the fact that it's free.

Any negatives of Neverwinter could have happened with any type of game, whether B2P, F2P or P2P, and in fact, there have been worse issues than what we see in Neverwinter in P2P games, for sure. Even WoW has rolled back their servers longer than 7 hours before because issues arose where it was necessary.

Shit happens.

Jesus, you even circled it for me!

We all know what they are calling it, but when you open up cash shops and declare that there will be no wipes, it's released.  They are only calling it open beta so people like you can say, "hey, it's only beta --- i circled it!"

I have to agree with that, as soon as the cashshop opens that means that the company feels the game is ready.

I don't know what a cash shop has to do with it at all. I see games regularly asking for obscene amounts of money for Founders/Lifetime even before the games are in closed beta. I see games in closed beta with cash shops. You can't really think that those games are all "released" and if you do then you are mistaken.

If people are stupid enough to pay real money for a game that is clearly advertised as open beta then its their fault. If people believe companies claiming anything before final release then it's their fault too.

Have you people not learned anything from the past 10 years of failed promises, over hyped games or flat out scams like WarZ?

Apparently not.

Why do you keep blaming the player base for the unethical business practices of developer?   Our country also used to have people working in sweatshops 16 hours a day 7 days a week, was that also the employees fault?  Your really a piece of work.

Your argument of...... if it exists and people are willing to participate makes it okay, is absurd.

I have NEVER said it is ok, you simply assume that.

It's pretty clear that Cryptic is to blame for this bug that has existed since STO. It's also pretty obvious that Cryptic ignored reports and forum posts about it until it got so out of hand that it threatened their revenue. It's quite clearly bad business practice but it does not change the fact that the game is advertised as open beta and people bought virtual items fully knowing the risk!

Yes, i think the players are to blame that these things happen because they pay for ridiculous founders editions, open betas or kickstarter that barely have concept art to show. Here, i make it really clear for everyone:

STOP PAYING FOR UNFINISHED GAMES AND DEVELOPERS WILL STOP RELEASING THEM!

Not everyone has the same definition of "what's finished."

To them, it might be considered finished, while the players might consider otherwise. Whether we have issues or not, that doesn't make it unfinished. Cryptic has made it quite clear with their no wipe, and their real money exchanges, that they believe the game is ready for launch. They're just cautious about the server's ability to handle the load, and their real money - AD - Zen conversion rates.

But yes, saying it's open beta is just enough leverage to screw RMT players. Technically, they could probably reset everything, and say "sorry for your loss, this was OPEN BETA!"

I feel everything they're doing currently is for the best of the community, whether it's enjoyed or not. I wouldn't wanna play a game with a completely whacked out economy.

I think I'm randomly rambling on about random shit now maybe.

Luckily for me, I didn't play during those seven hours that were rolled back. WHEEEEE!!
To be honest, if they wipe, I likely won't play again. One time through even to just level 30 is enough. I've also redone the starting areas so many times trying all the classes and some twice to find which one I wanted to play, that I really don't wanna start over. lol

As much as I am enjoying this game at the moment, these Founders options are a friggin' scam. I can't believe people would pay the outrageous prices they're asking.

But hey, to each their own, I s'pose.

I played WoW heavily since the week of open beta for a few years, then off and on for most of WoW's life after, usually only taking a few months at most off. I went back in MoP recently, and in less than a month I leveled a Monk to 90, and did some raiding and realized that even though the game is good, I'll never get my initial excitement for the game back, and I've finally stopped playing for good I think. :( Before that, I had stopped for about a year before MoP, but thought about going back a lot -- now I don't even think about it.

I am currently playing Neverwinter and enjoying it, but I doubt any games from here on out are going to excite me as much as my first time playing WoW. Oh wells!

Sure hope I -- as well as others like me -- don't get punished with a rollback or anything, when I've never used the AH in this game at all yet.

We'll see, though.

I wish there was an MMO with Dark Souls mechanics. Gain xp, and continue getting it but use it as all in-game currency for buying everything, as well as leveling, but if you die, you have to run back to your corpse or you lose all your unspent XP, and if you die again on the way, you leave another corpse with nothing on it. :p

The difficulty is negotiable, however, if no one wants a crazy hard PvE game.

I generally read most of the quests the first time through. But really, I don't need a big write up every time I'm told to go clear some wolves from a location. After a while, I zone out, but if it's a quest line that is exciting and ramping up to big boss battles or something, I'll generally get a little more excited to do them and read them all the way through it.

So I guess I'm in between. I don't really care about the little tasks that don't contribute much to main story, but big story quests I'll get into.

With how mediocre the game is, I am surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

And in 9 pages of this thread nobody came to the obvious conclusion:

Need/Greed is a moronic loot mechanic.

It's an open invitation for griefers and assholes of all sorts.

Actually shared group loot is a HORRIBLE and LAME idea to begin with.

Why the hell would they use this bullshit in a 2013 game?

Right, because Cryptic AGAIN failed to innovate.

Hm... I can't say they haven't innovated to some degree with their style of combat and the Foundry system. They have overlooked the loot issues, but a guy on the forums, I believe, already stated that they were going to be changing it up at some point.

I gotta go to work, so I can't find that post right now. Maybe someone else can.

Generally, there's no talking in any of the group content in this game, pug-wise, so I'll agree the community is very anti-social. Still, I like how in most games, people like to blame the entire community for being bad when in reality, it was one person that really got under their skin.

Just ignore the person and finish the run. It's really not that big of a deal that you need to get so offended. People who get mad over little things like this on games have no life.

My one major problem I have with the game is that everyone starts in the same spot with the same main story missions, so playing more than one or two characters through is gonna be enough for most people, I'd say. I wish choosing where your home was before crashing on Neverwinter's shores did more than give you different choices for a starter title. And if it does, enlighten me.

After maybe half of the first zone, the MoP "silliness" dies down quite a bit and goes full badass.

But personally, I never really found any of it all that silly. It was just fun. I'd say, if you want to avoid it, then you don't really want to play and are forcing it, so you might as well quit.

I agree in a sense. It's absolutely not fun to have a system like GW2's where you have forced de-leveling in older zones. However, a system like FFXI or what CoH used where you can group with others and be adjusted to their level is great. Can help out any friends  of any level without losing the feeling of being powerful in the open world while solo.

I generally only hope games fail if they're generic pieces of shit. If games failed more, it would force the developers to try new things and think outside of the box in order to make one that doesn't fail.

Obviously this is just an opinion, since there will always be people enjoying what I consider to be the worst trash in gaming, and vice versa.

SWTOR is a prime example.

You can get AD free you know.

All the Devs have to do is "adjust" the Ad you get and you too will be singing like a Canary.

It is a problem that ANYTHING is behind a wall and can only be gotten with Zen/AD/TP/CC/etc. Bad for Players, Great for Devs and Gold Farmers. Maybe someday some of you will realize how badly most Players are getting played by the same Devs that some Players here DEFEND.

And that day is not here, so what's your point?

The point is that there's a sucker born every minute, and you were one of them. :)

Not saying I'm not also at the moment, since I'm currently playing, but not really high enough level to feel the cash shop effects. If they're really as bad as the OP says, then I'll quit once I hit one of these walls. As a new player just starting, it seems like a fair system, but I still would much prefer a good ol' sub option.

Still, if I really get into this game, maybe spending 10 bucks here and there will be perfectly fine should I have the extra cash available.

Got news for those who think the game is P2W?  P2W games do not give away free sh*t.

Hey! Lets just kill the games economy before it has even been released for a month!

Maybe they know some secret that you don't...

... like nearly everything regarding their games' economy. :P

GW2. WAR being a close second. I only say this because I actually spent more time playing WAR than I did playing GW2.

I find it funny that you pointed out how questing gives the majority of xp. Seems like since 2004 this has been the case with most MMO's released that weren't generic asian turds.

Questing DOES NOT give the majority of the XP in the game - PvP does.

Doing a quest I'm busy on an average of 10 minutes, while a PvP session takes 15 minutes. A Quest gives around 1500-2000 XP including all mobs while PvP gives me already 5000-6000 XP per session (both at level 40-42)

Only downside of  PvP is that you won't get gear aside from one piece as reward if you did your best and the daily AD allowance (which you might use to buy gear from the AH, though I advice against it with the prices there), while you do get tokens for lvl 60 gear.

If one really wants to level up cheap and fast, PvP is the way to go, but you don't get to know the game that well then ;)

I actually just figured this out. I hit 10, joined Domination PvP, and I got over an entire level for winning.
