What's even more fun is when people yell "W0W c1on3!!" when talking about games that was developed, produced and released long before World Of Warcraft.

That always makes me chuckle a little.

Free of charge or 15 bucks a month... I don't really care. Wouldn't touch that game with a ten foot pole. That's how much I think it stinks.

Then again, I guess some people like it for some odd reason. But I don't understand how a company can produce such a huge pile of   and be proud of it.

I honestly don't think you can get much help from Warhammer online. Sure, it looks nice and all... but most PvP based games are impossible to roleplay properly in.

Sure, you can roleplay in any game if you put your mind to it. But it helps a lot if there's more to the game than just a big war/fight.

UO was a perfect spot for roleplaying, but that game is way too dated to even consider taking up again. Star Wars Online was a blast in the beginning. But they dumbed that one down to nothing.

There are a few things you really need in a game to make it "roleplayable";

  • Casual clothes - People can't be dressed in armor 24/7
  • Housing - Why would every person and their grandma live on the streets when there's so many empty/locked houses?
  • Crafting - A world with only warriors/fighters wouldn't last very long, now would it?
  • Character customization - This one's a no brainer really

I couldn't agree more... it's sad really 'cause I used to love RP'ing in online games. But when the only thing you can do in a game is hackin' everything you see RP'ing becomes rather moot.

- Oh hello there handsome sire, care to escort me to my house? There are oh so many ickies along the road and they scare me.
- But of course you damsel in distress, where do you live?
- Ehm... I live ... ehm ... *cough* ... on the streets of the largest city.
- On the streets?! The only kind of  "damsel" I know of that do that sure aint no damsel !
- Ehm, never mind... I'll just fling a myriad of fire balls and lightning bolts on the ickies on my way. There's no such thing as a damsel in distress nowadays anyways....

Well, what can I say? ... Yay and Nay!

Until I saw that it were going to be a Vista/360-exclusive I was all giddy. Now I have second thoughts. Guess it wont be a mmoRPG, just another mmog of POW!, BOP! and WHAMMO!
And I'm really fed up with all those bash-em-all grinders that are out there.

Here you go dear... *Smiles and chucks in a link*

Actually, yes. It does bother me and it is the main reason why I have cancelled my pre-order and wont be playing the game once it goes live.

I'm not too fond of being just another clone in mmorpg's so I'll just wait for another game to come my way. If I was I would be playing one of the myriad of free asian-grinders out there.

As for the trait-system... no, the traits do  not make you "unique". Somewhat different perhaps, but as stated above you're still just as everyone else from your class with a 1-3% difference that most of the time doesn't even involve anything else but a healing or a to-hit bonus ... or similiar hidden/invisible traits.

I think the recipes are just a bit misplaced, the named of that dragon weed sounds like something that should be pretty freakin rare, I never did find any rare weed seeds during the stress test, but I did get pretty high in farming just for casual play.  If they add in elaborate smoke effects and then a group buff for each pull on a pipe of rare weed, I think that would be great. Would need to be some pretty rare outcomes of farming though, because farming seems really easy as I see it.  No offense to those that've tweaked soil content, sunlight / darkness ratios, and wattering cycles to perfect the  wonderful... oh wait yeah its not that involved.
i do agree more interesting fluff is needed though, why skimp, why hold back those artists intersted in adding in crazy smoke ring effects.  Why not turn the sky orangish red with a puff before cluding fog aroudn the smoker and then emerges a flaming dragon.  I mean if pipe-weed is going to have a market for just fluff, then go over the top.

Exactly!! ... that's just what they are supposed to do. If the ONE and ONLY reason for an item in a game is "fluff" then the fluff should really go over the top.
To the extreme even, otherwise it's no real use or reason to have it in-game at all.

Especially not now considering that everyone can "/smoke" if they want and don't need any bags of weed to do so

Oh don't worry about that... I don't get offended that easily... *Smiles*

Roleplaying is actually the one and only reason I play games such as these. Making money aint that important to me even though they do makes things a whole lot easier.

But I do agree. It would be a whole lot nicer if the weed/tobacco/smoke actually did something considering the horrible time it takes to make it.

Attached or not... the one that you have now will be battered and wiped before open beta anyway...

But I feel with you, I'm getting rather attached to my mad li'l farmer-woman aswell. Her weed farming skills will be sorely missed...

Sure, it does look like a dragon... if you freeze the picture and doodle with a red marker

When I get home from work I'll be doodling at that picture aswell. I'll show you all that the squiggle you see is in fact a happy bunny! Or is it?

Maybe it is in fact a roaring camp fire? ... mayhaps even a grandmother in her rocking chair?

By the way.... what about the items on the character? Do those transfer aswell? Or do we transfer "in the nude"?

Because if the items/money do transfer we will have a hysterical money-, monster- and trinket-hoardning during open beta.

but why spend time doing farming and crafting to get only clouds?

I just have to reply on this comment.

Why spend time you say? For the very same reason I spend time dying my clothes, finding pretty trinkets and drinking "a flagon of wine" at the inn; Because I can.

Not only that, if I am supposed to be a farmer I really need to be the very best farmer there is, able to do everything on the list (and the special things that are supposed to be rare) in case someone somewhere asks me to produce it for them.
I take pride in my crafting when it comes to mmorpg's, always have and always will... and you know what? It's a good way of making a living. More people than you think is interrested in things like that. And "rare" produces are more sought after than average recipes. Thus resulting in a better price which they are more than willing to pay.

i must agree with most people... it is very much like watching the clouds and trying to find a pattern.
How many of us would've seen a sphinx or a pyramid in that squiggle if the weed was called "Egyptian style weed"?

And about the picture, it's taken at the Forsaken Inn... and yes, I do think it's a hole in the roof. I blame the goblins! Mean li'l things destroying all in their path.... *grumbles*

Well then people, here's a picture of the magnificent dragonbreath weed. Or at least a picture of the puff of smoke it produces.

Nope, didn't shot a picture. But I have my whole pocket full of that dragonbreath-weed so I'll snap one as soon as I log in.

But right now I'm placing my bum on a chair and grabbing myself something so eat

Someone already did that... post for me that is.

And now when I got home from work I cut/pasted it in myself :)

Read my li'l italic edit above... *Smile* ...

Actually, they're doing a wipe right before the open beta.

So the characters that are running around now at the moment are not the characters that people are allowed to keep.

(and from what I've read/heard the characters that are being kept and transfered over to the live servers are capped to level 15. But don't quote me on that. That's just something I've read on the official boards somwhere)

Thank you dear... you're a peach!

The problem isn't really the animation per se, the problem is that it take a whole lot of effort, forever in time and loads of coins to get there.

So I felt a need to howler and moan here on the boards... hehe
