I'm playing a ranger right now. Currently lvl 20.

At levels 1 - 15 you are really underpowered. Your DPS doesn't come close to other classes, but of course you can still safely kite mobs.

At lvl 16 your DPS starts to improve a LOT with Arrow Strike.

And again at 19, you're granted a major DPS boost through Stunning Shot. Really does a lot of damage.

Yeah it's a little tough to start out, because we don't start off with bow skills. But when we do gather up enough skills the DPS is good. Right now at lvl 20 I'm really satisfied with my ranger. Don't just say it's crap because you didn't get past lvl 1-15...

I'd like a trial please

Can't really blame the game for having people discover stuff like that on their own. If you'd have teleported twice on different levels, you should have noticed the change of will required. Though if you do actually want everything chewed out for you, read the forums. Newbie section + search function = all the information you will ever need.

It's not that big an effort, is it?

No, the game is stupid easy. It's just that they don't give you any information on anything. It's like walking into calculus class and your professor saying "you guys know algebra and trig, so you guys can just go ahead and reproduce and learn all of calculus and I'll test you in a month". The fan sites are horrible, with half of the advice/info being poor, the other half being completely bogus. Everything about the game is half assed. And if you think you need 10 hours to burn through 50 stamina after level 50, you've probably never even played atlantica. I can go through 50 stamina in an hour.

Exactly the reason why after lvl 50 you should get a full group and fight harder monsters. If you grind on mobs who are lower than you, yeah, you'll drain your stamina fast. You'll recover stamina every few fights, so if you actually fight mobs way over your lvl you won't drain your stamina even nearly fast enough to cut it down in a few hours. Besides of that you can just participate in the free league, win a few fights and you've got plenty of stamina to go for another few hours. I've gotten to lvl 80 twice without running out of stamina more than 5 times total, while playing for entire days in the weekends.

True the game doesn't give full information about what to do, but with some common sense and you're auto-move it's all pretty straight forward. I'd actually say the game is way too lineair than too complicated.

Perhaps it's just you, not the game...  (and don't get me wrong, I'm not really a big fan of the game)

I guess the MMO games became popular for the reason the world doesn't exlusively exist of non-playing characters. Interaction with other people for the reason to trade, group/exp, form guilds and pvp with keep a games lifetime up a lot longer than a normal RPG game.

There's usually different classes with different builds that all have their pros and cons. People will strive for a way to become stronger or more skilled than other players and seek the joy of killing. Even if people are not after killing, they can socialize with guildmembers, help others and if the game system allows it craft items.

There you go. Wasted another 10 mins of my life, but I hope I've helped you with your project.

Now please go grab me a cup of coffee and make me a sandwich.

Atlantica online is a good game. However I'm not sure if I'd pay a monthly fee for the game.

I've played Atlantica since the closed beta untill a month ago. The turn based style of action is a good break from the regular MMO's. It's very straightforward, easy to get into and heck, there's plenty of quests to do. However reaching the higher levels for more than 3 times with different setups, I got bored. I don't feel like there's a lot more to discover for me, so no way I'd pay for it at this moment. If I were just to start with the game however, I probably would.

Then there is Perfect World. I'm kind of looking in to this game. I only recently started playing this game and it looks really nice to me. No clue if this game can live up to my expectations, having read what previous posters have noted about the playability in the later levels. I always tend to stay away from the cash shops as much as possible, so I'd rather see a game with a shop that doesn't tear the game apart. So far it looks good though.

I've had my share of both Pay 2 Play and Free 2 Play games in the past. At the moment I'm down to just playing F2P games untill something I find really worth my time and money comes along.

I started out by playing Pay 2 Play games. How was that game called again... something like Biosfear or something. It was such a linear game, but never the less I seemed to enjoy the game because of the community and my first experience with a pet system.

After one and a half year of playing, or so I think afterwards, a mindless grindgame, I moved on to some free to play games. The problem with these free to play games is that they can't really seem to keep me interested. I have yet to find a free to play game with an ejoyable community, while living up to my expectations of being lag-free, having well ballanced characters, a pvp system that's worth giving a shot and have some crafting involved. Most already fail at the lag issue.

Right now I'm stuck playing those free to play games I don't really enjoy too much. I haven't found a game really worth investing my time and money into, while I'm looking for a game that I can play for a couple of years at least. My bet is that I'll eventually give up on the MMORPGs.

Insane.

Wonder if it's really worth the investment though.

I like free to play more.

Sure Free to Play game come with an item mall where you can buy all nice goodies like lvling packs that make you grind twice as fast etc, but who cares? Most of the items being sold in an item mall are tradable, so you can buy them from other players. And yes, people do sell those items for in-game gold (god may know why...). Not that any of the cash shop items are needed. If you're willing to invest a little more time into the game, you can still easily beat the crap out of others. Time invested still beats money invested.

Besides of that there are plenty of quality games with more than enough things to do (quests, pvp, crafting, you name it).  You really don't have to pay $150/year to play an ejoyable game. Sure there are loads of Free to Play games that make you wonder why they are still up and running, but that's basically the same with Pay to Play games.

So, I guess if you're not afraid to put a little time into the game and don't mind looking for a GOOD Free to Play game, things are pretty even.

Cheers.

My dream MMO?

Easy. That would be a free version of EVE Online

Nah, these guys are nuts.  OGame is the biggest and best by far and it truly is massive.  BattleDawn is pretty sweet too.

Isn't that some kind of Planetarion clone?

How I so loved those tick-based games years back haha. They sure are fun, but I don't think they are really good.

Space Merchant Realms is a game I really like though. Kind of confusing in the beginning, but it's cool.

WIPE!

The game is nice and such, but it's so not worth paying for.

I liked the game a lot more before Blitz sold his school project, and then I'm not even talking about the fees.

2moons ain't bad, 9dragons ain't bad, RF online ain't bad...

Ehmm... Sword of the New World is nice, but with the entire server being afk, it's more of an AFK-based game than skill based.

It's hard to tell you what the 'best' free mmorpg is, without knowing your preferences really.

I'm looking for the exact same thing.

I'm not sure if there is a neat game like this out there though...

Haven't played it yet. The screenshots look decent, but not superb. Also I have to agree to the comment posted above. Item shops stink. Doubt that I'll ever try this one.
There is no 'best' mmo that I have ever played. There are however games that required me to stay hooked longer than others, but that doesn't mean the game is better.

For instance I really enjoyed playing Biosfear. The game itself is crap. It's really linear and there is not a lot to do. However there was always someone to talk to, always some way to improve your character and I really enjoyed the exp-whoring at that stage. It made the game ok for me, while for someone else it would be crap. To be honest, now I look back at the day that I played that game, I wonder why I even played it. It wasn't that great.

You've got to love adictions ;)
Another winner here. Woohoo
It's a really nice game if you get the hang of it. The game itself is not really newbie friendly, but the people in DarkSpace Asia are. If you don't mind having a tough time at the start and like space games this is your game.

Myself I recently started playing DarkSpace Asia after playing the P2P version for months. In fact the free version is just as good and I wonder why I even tried the P2P version. I find the game very fun to play, as I joined a very friendly fleet. I guess I like this game so much because of the ship to ship combat :)

You should try this one if you haven't, because it's better than all free to play games out there.
This one: http://www.laghaim.in.th/

A very old game. The only problem I have is creating an account

Not that I would advise anyone playing this game. It's a korean grind mmorpg of the worst kind (but jeah, I love it)
