Horrifying.  Trees with tude.  Is the bite larger than the bark?  Okay okay.  I'll stop now.

You owe me a new keyboard.  You made me spit vitamin water on mine .

Now Rage.

Ive lost all hope in anything with the Bethesda tag on it.

Canceled Skyrim preorder and getting refund on Rage.

Liked Brink.

Loved Hunted Demon Forge.

Like Rage.

My system has no problems at all running it. Enjoying it more then I did Deus Ex Human Revolution. (Seriously wish I hadn't wasted money on it.)

*shrug* I don't really have a problem with what he said. If that's how he felt, well that's just how he felt.  Those who want to buy TOR will.  Those who don't, won't.  Something written by someone else won't stop someone really interested in the game, from purchasing it.  I'm still very much looking forward to release day, and if it still happens as they planned.  A possible beta weekend.

I've never played a Single Player MMO before.  Can you even have one? Short answer.  No, you can't.  The first time you see another player, that game ceases to be Single player.   The closest we've come to that is the story portion of Age of Conan's Tortage Quest. Being able to play a MMO doesnt make it a single player game or single player MMO. Not grouping with people doesn't make it any less of a MMO. Being able to level from start to cap doesn't make it any less of a MMO. I'm still trying to figure out how MMO got twisted into meaning "must group". I was always under the impression it meant a persistent and/or semi-persistant world populated with real players, numbering in the hundreds or even thousands.

I'm really sorry some of you have such bad personalities.  That you need developers to force people to be friendly with you.  Me, personally I would rather have the freedom to decide when/where/If I want to interact with another person.  Not be forced to take Asshole#99 with me just because the game is made for me to be too weak if I don't. *shrug* I just don't think that is the real spirit of what MMO's are about.

Q: Why can't we have it all?

A: Because some play styles and play types simply do not mix together at all and are in fact completely counter to each other.

A2: Because said play styles and play types are more often then not population dependant, so if you don't have enough people doing A because they are doing B instead then there won't be enough people for A to make it worth doing.

There will never, ever, ever, ever be "one game to rule them all" it's just a fact.

Examples:

1. Full loot PvP and gear-centric game play do not mingle. People will not play a game where you spend hours/weeks/months collecting "phat loots" only to have it "stolen" by a moments weakness or one bad decision.

Full loot PvP / item loss only works in MMOs with "transient" gear like original UO or EvE - everything is replaceable, nothing is "epic."

2. Open world and instanced PvP - players will generally choose the path of least resistence in any situation, they will naturally even without thinking about it gravitate towards the shortest/easiest/quickest path towards acheiving their goals and getting the desired rewards. It's only logical to not waste effort right? Even the "stop and smell the roses" types do this subconsciously, but take conscience effort to "shut it off" for the sake of adventure/fun/exploration/social etc.

So if everyone is doing instanced PvP because it's faster/easier, no one will do open world and open world will die because open world PvP is very population dependant.

.  Very much agree.

I knew someone would play the next patch is due out soon card. Every other MMO it's ok to review the game, but FFXIV deserves special treament.  It shouldn't be reviewed till... the stars align, Jesus returns, pigs fly, and Jimmy Hoffa's body is found.

This thread made me laugh so hard.  I had tears in my eyes.  FFXIV fans are priceless.

Well, essentially all men are still hunters. ;)

Still. DA:O didn't have so many creatures I can recall. Hurlock, Genlock and...? Yeah Dragons.

Not sure they mean type.  I think they are refering to population maybe?

I see this game as being Tortage in Age of Conan where it isn't really an MMO and you're going in and out of your own instances all the time. If that's the case then I cannot see it being the MMO that us MMO lovers want. sure it'll probably be a great game but we'll all be wanting a proper MMO still.

this is exactly what it will be like.

SWG is dead.  It has been dead for a very long time now.  It is time to let the past go. Not once has BW ever claimed to be making SWG2.  All these doom and gloom post just show how truly bitter you are.

Makes me curious what there is going to be complaints about now.....

I was wondering that to.  It has no release date... it does now.  It doesn't have any pricing listed... it does now. I pretty much expected it to be 14.99 a month anyway.  Never understood why people kept bringing up pricing.  TOR has gone out of its way to not rock any boats so to speak.  So I highly doubted they would change the normal pricing model for P2P MMO's.

Comparing a SPG to an MMO and expecting the world for a wide variety of computers . . . Wow.  I guess you only want people to play with you that have the best computers on the market and therefore basically empty servers.  No thanks.

Should have just ignored his post. If he doesn't like the graphics thats on him.  Same for people that don't like the art direction.  When they get enough investors onboard, and the rights to the IP.  They can create whatever they want. Until then, just let them keep venting, and don't bother quoting them. Just pretend like you don't even see the post.

Very nice video.  Looking forward to gathering the various companions over the time I play the game, with different classes.

More mini games was mentioned.

I like more mini games like pazak and pod racing. Pod racing was a fun part of Knights of the Old Republic so definitely fits the time period.

KOTOR didn't have Pod Racing.  It had Swoop racing (if I recall correctly).

DAOC + All expansions - ToA (Trials of Atlantis)

Anarchy Online

Final Fantasy XI + All expansions

I highly doubt that microsoft would make their games run on a pc considering they are designing a new or updated console as we speak. Also someone mentioned in this post earlier that microsoft does not make money from the console hardware and that is absolutely correct with any console machine. The money to be made is in the licensing and the sale of games.

I used to own a game store back in the 90s in perth western australia so I do have some idea on how the industry works and I think microsoft would be shooting themselves if they did this.

Why wouldn't they? They make money off every game sold.  If I can sell you the game without having to take a loss on the console sale.  That is pure profit.  They would increase the sales of the more popular games easily.

Some tasty bits from the Q&A-

"

Q: Are waiting queues cross-server and, if so, also cross-language? - Kisskill

A: No. We believe that fostering rivalries and memorable encounters with recognizable players are important in building a good PvP community on a server. We suspect cross-server queuing compromises these key tenets. Additionally, systems like bolster and same faction vs same faction Warzones (like Hutball) help matches pop frequently and regularly.

Q: How will the Bolster system work? – Kelremar

A: If after a time the Warzone matchmaking system has not found a match of players of the same level range, then it will start up a ‘bolstered match’ where players of varying levels will have their stats bolstered to within 20% of each other. Therefore, player skill disparity withstanding, the lowest level player will be 80% as effective as the highest level player in the match.

"

So there will be same faction vs same faction stuff.

I agree with Creslin to a great extent. Where did people get the idea that fast paced combat was solely a console specific form of play, while slow paced thinkers are strictly for the PC? I only play games on my computer, to use an example, and I play a very large myriad of games that ranges from Quake Live, to Civilization, to Mass Effect, and old school RPG's like Ultima 7 or Wizardry. It's true that MMO combat is boring and stale. If you haven't reached this conclusion yet, you haven't played them long enough, and it has nothing to do with approaching these games in a console mentality. Truth be told, they're rehashing the same damn thing with minor details or improvements that really make little difference to me, the player, in the long run for a very good reason: when you boil it down, you're doing the same damn thing you did in Game X, or Game Y.

I'm glad some of you took time to describe how there have been different approaches to MMO combat. It's true that not all massively games use the same blue print for action, but these derailments from what has become termed "classic MMO combat" by some of you (and give me a fucking break, no two games should play the same way) are truly few and far between.

Yes, I wanted TOR to be different from what I've seen repeated ad nauseum for the past five years. Again, they're delivering minor improvements upon a system that has already been defined for them, the addition of story and voice overs could truly be amazing in practice, and even if you don't view this as lazy creation, you have to call to question the imagination of their development team. That doesn't necessarily mean I won't play it, but it does mean that I want designers to start rethinking the entire genre or what has become so stereotypical of MMO combat, and really start providing games that you can tell are different from the first moment you engage an enemy (or any other action based involvement, for that matter).

Red - Opinion stated as Fact.  Actually that can pretty much be said about most of your post.

Blue - This part was funny.  Glasses might help though.  Games have similiarities.  Doesn't make them the same.  In your eyes every Platformer, Action RPG, Shooter, Third Person Shooter, etc must be the same to.  Games share similiarities get over it.

Due to the amount of heat it created when I played anything that gave the two 580's in it a workout.

That is not good.  Had you gone with two Radeon HD 6990Ms instead of two GeForce GTX 580Ms, you'd get about the same graphical performance, but with perhaps 20% less heat.  You'd have saved several hundred dollars, too.  Would that have prevented your current problem?  Likely not, but if it's power or heat related, then maybe.

You know why your Asus G73 can be more reliable?  Because it only has perhaps 1/3 as much power consumption under heavy loads.  I don't think it's an accident that Asus has shied away from the high end this generation.  In previous generations, neither AMD nor Nvidia would go over 75 W in a mobile video card.  Nvidia won't say the TDP on a GeForce GTX 580M, but it's well over 100 W.  And you've got two of them.

That's an awful lot of power for a laptop.  I don't know how much of a challenge delivering that sort of power in a laptop form factor is, but dissipating the heat is sure an awfully big problem.  And yes, that does hurt reliability.  It's not a problem of Alienware; it's a problem of physics.

The Alienware has two ATI 6970.  My main desktop though has two 580's in it.  I use to keep my main desktop in my bedroom with my very comfortable chair. I got the additonal laptop cause usually during weekends couple of my friends come over.  With my G73 at least one of them wouldn't have to worry about bringing their desktop or laptop with them.  So I got the Alienware to add another gaming system to the mix.

But the Mx18 when it was on did pretty good on heat.  Didn't heat my bedroom up near as much as my desktop did. Actually scored decently on the Heaven benchmark as mark.

Several people warned me about Alienware laptops.  Didn't listen, and now I have a couple thousand dollar paperweight sitting on my bedroom desk.  I got an Alienware Mx18 in early August for my bedroom. I tossed around idea of getting another desktop for my bedroom, as i moved my main rig downstairs.  Due to the amount of heat it created when I played anything that gave the two 580's in it a workout. So after much debate I ended up at the Alienware site.  Fast forward to first week in August, and it's delivered. I noticed when I turned it on the macro keys on far left weren't lit. I thought about sending it in, but shrugged it off, said it wasn't a big deal.

So I go on vacation just over a week ago.  It was working fine then.  I get back, earlier today.  I turn it on, and 4 mins later poof.  It cuts off.  So I flip it over and hit the button on battery.  All 5 white lights show up telling me the battery has a good charge.  Ok so I grab the power brick (I unplug everything PC or laptop related when I go on a trip), and plug it in.  I notice the green light that normally comes on the power brick doesn't light up.  So I try the other 2 outlets in room, since they are on different circuit breaker.  Nothing.

So I hope on the line to Dell. After seeing where I lived the very first thing he suggest is that, it might have been power surge from the hurricane.   One passed close to my area not too long ago, alot of power outages. (FYI the power never went out in my area) So the tech rep goes into how he'll talk to dispatch or something about sending me a new power brick.  So I explained to him the whole time I was gone the laptop was never plugged up or for that manner even on.  It had been powered down the whole time.  So now after much waiting & holding on the phone, I'm getting a box mailed to me, so I can mail back a laptop I've barely had any time to use.  Since getting in that first week in August.

I just find it funny that I've had my Asus G73 and Toshiba Satellite A665 laptops even longer, and have used a hell of alot more.  Yet I have never ever had to call tech support for either.  And I can't even tell you how many times I've dropped Toshiba.  It's even fall down a few steps.  Words can just not describe how pissed I am right now.  Yet I have no one to blame but myself for not listening.  If I could do a charge back on the laptop I would, and just tell them to keep it, and get an Asus G74 instead.

It's a blend of Borderlands and Dead Rising.  If you liked either game or maybe even both.  You'll find alot to like about Dead Island. The game world is beautiful, and quite big.  Lots of room to walk around and explore. I've had the game since it released, and still haven't beaten it yet.  Only on Act 2, and I spend alot of time playing Co-Op with a friend of mine that lives over in EU region. It definitely had its share of bugs. (Even now it still has a few)  Otherwise it's a genuiely fun game.

Good video I liked the humor in it. Smuggler was actually what I was going to play during Beta weekend.  To avoid playing any Sith characters. Now I just need BW to give me, my damn Sith Inquisitor progression video.  I've waited so long.
